Sanwo-Olu’s wife opens Public Health Centre

Lagos State Governor’s Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has opened the Anikantamo Primary Healthcare Centre rebuilt by the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area on Adeniji Adele, Lagos.

She described the centre as a testament to true clear commitment of the Muibi Alade Folawiyo-led administration to uplift the council.

Represented by wife of Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, Dr Sanwo-Olu said: “It is particularly commendable that the facility, which became dilapidated after serving the primary healthcare need of Lagos Island Community for decades, has now been reconstructed with fully functional state-of-the-art facilities and healthcare providers to provide first-class healthcare services to the people. The facility, according to information at my disposal, was demolished and totally reconstructed from scratch to demonstrate the willingness of its handlers to do a thorough job that will be beneficial to the people.”

According to her, the importance of a strong, efficient and accessible primary healthcare system cannot be downplayed.

“Being the first point of call for the people in our communities, we cannot afford a situation whereby the PHC system is not effective and functional. The fact is Primary Healthcare system reduces pressure on secondary and tertiary health facilities and helps to keep people well and improve their quality of life. This is why we cannot cope with the consequences of not getting it right at the Primary Healthcare level, as it has the overall mandate of supporting people to manage their health and achieving better health for all,” she said.

The council Chairman, Muibi Alade Folawiyo, said the commissioning was part of the activities lined up to mark his administration’s 100 days in office.

According to him, the health centre has been upgraded to a storey building fully equipped with modern facilities and manpower.

“We realised the need for adequate health care delivery to meet the health needs of Anikantamo ward and its environs. This facility is well-equipped with modern medical equipment which will serve our people. It is an eight-bed facility comprising of laboratory room, pharmacy, male and female wards amongst others. We are proud to bring our people one of the vital needs of any society”, he said.

He added that the council is focused on establishing a good and viable working relationship with the private sector to ensure a conducive environment for their businesses to thrive, thereby creating more jobs, reducing social menace and vices among youths.
