Security operatives yesterday dispersed traders at the popular Owode market in Ede North Local Government of Osun State as part of measures to curb spread of COVID-19.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the government last Friday directed weekly markets (one of which is Owode market) suspended indefinitely.

But traders flouted the order as they gathered for business, forcing the deployment of security personnel to disperse them.

Chairman of Ede North Mukaila Uthman, who led government officials, said they got to the market about 6 am to monitor compliance.

According to Uthman, the team tried to educate and persuade traders on the need to adhere to government’s directive, but they rebuffed all entreaties.

Security personnel were invited to disperse the traders.
