The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has arrested seven patent medicine dealers in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Also, 301 pharmaceutical and patent medicine stores were sealed for allegedly selling fake drugs and poor handling of drugs.
PCN registrar, Elijah Mohammed, who led other officials of the council on inspection of pharmacies and medicine stores in the state, said the offenders would be charged to court.
The registrar at a briefing after the inspection exercise, said the offenders had contravened the laws guiding the sale of drugs and would face the music.
He called on the National Assembly to review the laws guiding manufacturing and sale of drugs in the country.
Mohammed also made a case for stiffer penalty for offenders.
Represented by the Director of Enforcement of the council, Mr Stephen Esumobi, he said the council would embark on post-enforcement and routine inspection to avoid poor handling of drugs.
The PCN chief pointed out that many deaths recorded in the country are as a result of consumption of poor drugs, which he said are harmful to the body system.
He lamented that many patent medicine stores and pharmacy outlets in the state operate without license.
Mohammed noted that many take their activities beyond the limit of their licence, while many have poor storage facilities.
