No fewer than seven students of the Lagos State University (LASU) suffered various degrees of injuries during a stampede at the institution’s CBT centre on Monday.
The Nation learned that the stampede occurred as 100-Levels students prepared to sit for the General Nigerian Studies (GNS) scheduled for on Monday and Tuesday.
Although about seven students were injured, the university management said all of the victims except one, has since been discharged.
The Nation’s findings revealed that all 100-Level students were meant to sit for GNS 102 which the university had scheduled to hold in batches. The exam which was slated for the institution CBT Hall was meant for one hour each and to be written in six batches daily.

The university’s spokesperson Ademol Adekoya told our reporter that some impatient students who had insisted to be among the earlier set, began the commotion after forcing their way into the 500-capacity ICT Centre, and resulting in the pandemonium that followed.
“That resulted in the stampede that caused some of them to faint, while few others sustained minor injuries,” Adekoya later stated in a press statement made available to The Nation.
“The affected students were promptly rushed to the University Health Centre and the Igando General Hospital for treatment.
“Most of them have been discharged, while the GNS 102 examination has now been rescheduled to take place on January 8 and 9 at the CBT Centre and the Language Laboratory, Faculty of Arts, Main Campus, Ojo.
“Each student will also be allotted specific time to appear and sit for the examination.
“The university regrets the unfortunate incidence and is determined to put measures in place to avoid a recurrence in the future,” he said
