Shiroro banditry victims get relief items

THE Federal Government has distributed relief materials to victims of bandit attacks in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Shiroro local government had become the epicentre of bandit attacks in the state as thousands had been displaced and several killed in recent times.

The relief materials were distributed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) under the directive of the Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Items distributed to the displaced persons include bags of rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil, milk, Milo, blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, children’s wears and guinea brocade.

Making the distribution at one of the IDP camps in Kuta, the Head of Minna Operations office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Wagami Lydia lamented the plight of victims of banditry in Shiroro and Rafi local government areas which have made them take refuge in primary schools in Kuta, Gwada and Kagara towns.

She noted that while some displaced persons are taking refuge with friends and relatives, the situation has cast a burden on the host communities which the federal government is trying to address.
