Social workers elect new national officers

Social workers across the country have elected new national officers to pilot the affairs of the association for the next four years in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The election was part of activities during the association’s 34th annual general meeting/national conference, with the theme: Promoting community and environmental sustainability.

Dignitaries at the conference included the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, who was represented by the Director of Social Welfare in the ministry, Mrs. Temitope Bamgboye; Kwara State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Taibat Ahmed; Head of Department of Social Work at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Dr. A. A. Abdullahi and outgoing National President of the association, Mr. Nathaniel Kolawole Olawale.

Those elected include Alhaji M. B. Mustapha, who defeated Mr. Olu Jacob to become National President; Mr. Abubakar Alhassan Bichi, who defeated Mr. S. M. Aladesuyi to become Deputy President; Dr. Olukunle Balogun, who defeated Mr. Johnson Nwopotu to become the General Secretary; Mrs. Oluwatoni Adeleke, who defeated Tireng Retshit to become Assistant General Secretary; Kande Useni, who defeated Afolabi Adegboyega to become Treasurer and Pius Akah, who defeated Abdul Ahmed to become Auditor.
