A woman has been hospitalised in Ughelli, Delta State after her son allegedly tried to strangle her for money rituals, it was said.
Emma Ereganoma was arrested on Tuesday in Okuokoko community, Okpe council area after reportedly attempting to strangle her mother Mrs Oke Ereganoma and gouge out her eyes.
The suspect’s age was not revealed but local sources referred to him a young man, while police who confirmed the incident, called him a “boy”.
He was said to have been bragging for days that soon he would be driving a very expensive vehicle.

Narrating her ordeal yesterday, Mrs. Ereganoma, a foodstuff seller, said the suspect invited her to his apartment, telling her he had a surprise for her.
“On getting there l saw my son in a joyous mood with loud music. Then my son locked the door and was trying to strangle me and also attempting to pluck off my eyes. l started shouting for help but due the loud music, my voice could not be heard.
“But strength later came upon me. I opened the door and ran outside for help and by His grace, neighbours came to my rescue and my son was caught and taken to Orerokpe police station.”
She has been hospitalised at an undisclosed location.
Police spokesman Bright Edafe said, “The boy is in custody, but he said he was not using her for rituals. He just had some flimsy explanation, but we can’t come to a conclusion yet.”
