Sowore flouted rule of law, says Aremu

From AbdulGafar Alabelewe, Kaduna

Frontline labour leader, Comrade Issa Aremu, has faulted #RevolutionNow Convener Omoyele Sowore for allegedly flouting the rule of law.

Aremu, who is the General Secretary of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), spoke in Kaduna during this year’s commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) organised by the union.

The union leader urged the government to obey court orders for the release of persons in illegal detention.
On Sowore, he noted that obeying the rules of law is a two-way traffic because it is not only the government alone that should obey court orders but the citizens as well.

Aremu argued that calling for immediate revolution is unacceptable because the only way to change a government is through democratic processes.

“He (Sowore) contested election under a democratic government. Now, he is calling for forceful removal the same government.

“If he was not lucky in the last election, he should wait for another time. I also contested in the election and I was not successful. But we are not going to call for revolution now because it is undemocratic.
“So, he should obey the rules of law by doing what is acceptable in the law.”
