The Niger Delta Progressive Alliance (NDPA) on Saturday described as cheap blackmail and untrue an allegation that Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi and his wife Judith mismanaged Niger Development Development Commission (NDDC) funds.

NDPA spokesperson, David Ikporukpo, in a statement urged the Presidency and the public to ignore the claim.

The group said the allegation that the Amaechis and others used the funds meant for the commission for personal use was made by a “faceless” group, the Concerned Senior Staff Members of NDDC.

It said the NDDC staff had, in a letter, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the allegations, while also removing Amaechi and Co from any future cabinet position.

But responding, Ikporukpo said: “This is nothing but another cheap and unholy attempt to mar the good image of Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, his wife and other individuals mentioned in the press release which was released by the Concerned Senior Staff Members of NDDC.

“As a progressive group which is committed to transparency and accountability, we hereby stand against any attempt to manipulate facts for pure selfish reasons.”

According to him, the allegations against lacked merit as it was coming from a “faceless” group which was too “unscrupulous” to “show its identity.”
