Surveying school gets first woman rector

The Federal School of Surveying (FSS), Oyo has got its first woman Rector, Dr Dupe Olayinka.

Her appointment at the 51st Governing Council meeting of the institution in September was approved by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) last month.

A statement by the Registrar, MrAdesokan Adebayo, said the appointment of the 47-year old Oyo indigene and alumna of the school, took effect from December 3, 2018.

Until her appointment, Fr Olayinka was a senior lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and an adjunct professor of the University of Ilorin. She also served as Acting Rector in the school before her appointment as substantive Rector.

Olayinka had her Higher National Diploma (HND) from the Surveying School in 1995 and graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Surveying Engineering from UNILAG in 1998. She also had a distinction in her Master’s degree in Surveying and Geoinformatics.

The new Rector was the first Nigerian to be awarded the Schlumberger Foundation Scholarship for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Lancaster University, United Kingdom (UK,) where she also did her Ph.D. in 2010.

Olayinka has served as chairman, secretary and member of many committees of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) at both state and national levels. She is currently the Internal Auditor of the Lagos branch of the institution.
