Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected fraudsters, including their kingpin, Kayode Ajayi, popularly called ‘Ekun’, in Akure for alleged kidnapping of a female student of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Miss Ayomide Ogunsuyi.
Two of the suspects, Olumide Faleye and Mrs Bola Ojo, were apprehended by the police after they allegedly hypnotised and abducted the student, who boarded their vehicle to Ondo town from Isikan market in Akure.
Parading the suspects, Police Commissioner Gbenga Adeyanju, represented by the command’s spokesman, Femi Joseph, said the abduction of Miss Ogunsuyi was reported to the police by good Samaritans, who noticed the antics of the suspected kidnappers, who pretended like commercial drivers.
He said ‘Ekun’ was fingered by two other suspects to be their gang leader.
The CP said they would be arraigned for advanced free fraud and kidnapping.
He said the victim was kidnapped by the syndicate on Isikan Road after boarding a vehicle while on her way to school.
According to him, the police patrol team from the Akure Command swung into action and trailed the car to the High School area in Akure, where they were nabbed after a chase.
Adeyanju said: “Symphatisers informed the police about the identity of the vehicle. We trailed the vehicle, which was followed to the High School area where the officers overtook and blocked them. The driver, whose name was later given as “Cherubim”, jumped out of the car and ran away, while the remaining three occupants were arrested.
“The victim, who looked sedated at that time, later told the police that she was on her way to Ondo town after boarding the vehicle (kidnappers’ car) at Isinkan.
“The police arrested the suspects and moved them to the station for kidnapping. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to be working for ‘Ekun’. They said they are fraudsters, not kidnappers”.
‘Ekun’ denied the allegation, claiming he had never involved in kidnapping. He, however, admitted being a fraudster.
