Suspected cultist arraigned for allegedly robbing, raping passers-by

The police yesterday arraigned a 23-year-old suspected cultist, Babatunde Ogundipe, at an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly robbing and raping pedestrians.

The accused is charged with two counts of conspiracy and engaging in unlawful activities.

Prosecutor Oladele Adebayo told the court that the accused committed the offence on Christmas Eve at about 3:30am, at Okobaba Street, Ebute-Meta.

He alleged that the accused also snatched women’s handbags.

Adebayo said the police arrested the accused with weapons, which he used to intimidate and rape passers-by.

The offence, he said, violated sections 42 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji admitted the accused to N100,000 bail with two sureties each in the like sum, who must have proof of evidence of tax payment for three years.

He fixed January 30 for further hearing.
