Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has requested increased and urgent security deployment to Ekiti Local Government Area, especially the Eruku axis, to promptly curb the new wave of attacks in the area.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Rafiu Ajakaye on Wednesday in Ilorin.

The governor condemned the unreasonable attack and sympathised with the people of Eruku and environs, especially the families and the church directly impacted by the attack.

“The governor has sought immediate deployment of more security operatives to support the existing security architecture in the area.

“He requested that this new measure be activated immediately.

“The state government will continue to support the security agencies to tackle these challenges and ensure safety of lives and properties across the state,” he said.

The governor similarly commended President Bola Tinubu for the deployment of 900 additional troops in Kwara, saying the move is expected to strengthen security in the state.

“We have indeed seen appreciable calm in many areas previously affected. We sincerely thank the president for this.

“We are confident that the additional troops will provide further deterrence, overall safety for our people, and permanent calm,” he said.

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has won the Integrity Governor of the Year Award of the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ).

Presenting the Award on Tuesday in Ilorin, President of the Association, Dr Charles Okhai, said AbdulRazaq merited the recognition on account of his impressive achievements across many sectors.

Okhai said the Governor scored higher in sectors like education, road infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment, and transparency.

He said the Association was thrilled by AbdulRazaq’s commitment to the welfare of the civil servants and teachers, as seen in regular promotion and prompt payment of salary, and how his government transparently recruited at least 8,601 qualified teachers to fill manpower gaps across public schools.

He said NACJ is a body of Christian media personnel, which pursues strictly national development.

“When we nominated you, we didn’t look at you from a religious perspective but on account of your sterling performance,” he said.

Residents excited as AbdulRazaq inaugurates Otte/Budo-Egba waterworks

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday inaugurated the newly rehabilitated Otte/Budo-Egba Waterworks in Asa local government to deepen access to clean and safe water in the areas.

The Governor said the completion of the 500,000 litre tank reflects the vision of his administration to modernise water infrastructure across the state.

“This is not just about giving clean water to our people. The project brings comfort and renewed confidence in the power of our government to deliver,” the Governor said at the commissioning ceremony in Otte town.

“As an administration, we recognised that access to safe and reliable water supply must be a priority. That is why we launched a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and modernise water infrastructure across the state. The story of Otte and its environs today is a reflection of that vision.

“Access to clean water improves public health by reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases. It supports education, as children no longer have to spend hours fetching water instead of being in school.”

The Governor was represented  by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah.

AbdulRazaq commended the contractors who handled the project for their professionalism, and the people of Otte and its environs for their patience, cooperation, and belief in the vision of this government.

He also lauded the development partners and agencies for their support that culminated in this success.

The Governor listed other waterworks that are currently being rehabilitated in the state to include Omu-Aran Waterworks, Oyun Waterworks, and Sobi Waterworks.

He said access to clean water is a fundamental right of every Kwaran, and pledged to continue to invest in the sector.

Lade urged the people of Otte and its adjoining communities to take ownership of the facility by guiding against vandalisation of any kind.

He said the government has invested millions of naira to enhance water accessibility and improve sanitation across the state.

Chairman of Asa LGA, Alhaji Amasa, thanked the Governor for providing the communities with what he called a beneficial and gigantic project.

“I know the hardship my people faced in search of water during the dry season. Honestly, their apprehension has been addressed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. We are very happy and grateful,” he said.

Adaramaja and Alakawa, said no part of the state has not been impacted by the administration through its various developmental projects, declaring the unalloyed support of people of Asa LG to the state government.

Adaramaja recalled the communities’ ordeal of lacking water supply during the previous governments and thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for coming to their rescue, noting that the water plant will impact many lives.

AbdulRazaq excited as Kwara Sugar Film Studios unveil maiden movie

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s push for a brighter future of filmmaking in Nigeria is yielding fruits as the State Sugar Factory Film Studios unveiled its first film – Ajuwaya Series.

The movie – 85 per cent of which was executed in the state-of-the-art studios – was financed by First Lady Sen Oluremi Tinubu, who supported the facility with N350m.

At a media briefing for the unveiling of the project in Ilorin, Managing Director of the Studios, Gbenga Titiloye, said the movie stands the chance of attracting direct foreign investment, “because this is the only functional film studio in Africa”.

He commended the Governor’s foresight and his administration’s resolve to create a platform that nurtures artistry, innovation, and economic vitality.

“Today, we gather to celebrate a milestone that marks not just the completion of a facility, but the dawn of a new era in Nigerian cinema and cultural expression—the successful completion of the Ajuwaya project,” he said.

“This moment stands as a testament to what can be achieved when vision, perseverance, and collaborative effort converge for the common good. What the Governor has achieved here is foreign direct investment because this is the only functional film studio in Africa, and 85 percent of this movie was done in this studio.

“His Excellency’s willingness to champion a film studio in Nigeria demonstrates not only a bold strategic mind but also a deep faith in our people and their talent. It is through that foresight and resolve that we have arrived at this moment: a state-backed endeavour that nurtures artistry, innovation, and economic vitality”.

Titiloye also appreciated Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her generous donation to the Sugar Factory Studios, adding that her gesture reflects the spirit of national renewal and investment in the creative economy.

“This grant (from the First Lady) is more than funding; it is a signal, a beacon, and a pledge that Nigeria will not only tell its stories but export them with pride and excellence,” he said.

Speaking on the lessons to gain from Ajuwaya, Titiloye said the movie exemplifies how national and regional efforts can combine to create durable infrastructure for culture and economy.

The press briefing was attended by
Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Princess Olubukola Babalola; Commissioner for Communications, Hon Bola Olukoju; and General Manager, Sugar Factory Film Studios and Producer of the film, Grace Babasola.

Princess Babalola urged the youth to take advantage of the Sugar Film Studios to tap into the creative industry, saying theatre work is a model to reflect modern society.

“This studio is important to economic growth, development growth and projecting our state as a leader in the area of theatre and creative industry generally. So, let us talk to our youth so that they can find their feet in this industry,” she said.

Olukoju described the production of the Ajuwaya Series as a big win for the state, saying it signals the beginning of a new ecosystem in the creative industry in the sub-national.

“For us in Kwara State, the creative industry is a big ecosystem. In the time of shooting this film, 1,211 participated. People benefited a lot, we have fashion designers, caterers, transporters, artisans, among others, and if we can have this regularly, it is going to open up the ecosystem of the creative industry. Every part of the economy benefited in the course of producing the film,” she said.

Babasola lauded AbdulRazaq for the creation of the studios that he noted represents more than just a building or a production house.

“Governor AbdulRazaq is a leader whose belief in the potential of young creatives has opened new doors for the film and entertainment industry in Nigeria,” she said.

“Ajuwaya is just the beginning. It is proof that when opportunity meets passion, great stories emerge that inspire, entertain, and remind us of who we are.”

Kwara security: AbdulRazaq commends Tinubu as Army deploys full brigade to rout kidnappers from forests

    • …heavy equipment roars through communities in Ifelodun, Edu, Patigi

The Nigerian Army Headquarters have deployed a full brigade and heavy equipment in different parts of Kwara South, as troops were already milling through communities inward Oke Ode and Babanla, both in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The operation is also extending to Edu and Patigi to comb through thick forests from which kidnappers have launched cowardly attacks on different communities and abducted people in return for ransom.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who met with President Bola Tinubu on the issue at the weekend on the sideline of the visit to Jos, commended the President for the support, and the military high-command and allied security forces for the renewed intervention to eliminate all threats to public safety in the state.

“We will not spare any resources in support of the military, DSS, police, and other security agencies as they work to strengthen security of lives and properties,” the Governor said in a statement welcoming the army deployment on Wednesday.

AbdulRazaq scraps payment of PTA levies in primary schools

Kwara State Government says it is no longer permissible to charge or collect parent-teacher association (PTA) levy in public primary schools.

It therefore approved annual grants for the schools to replace PTA levy and serve as their running costs.

Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof Shehu Adaramaja, said this in Ilorin at the bid opening for the 2024 (3rd and 4th quarters) UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.

“The governor has approved the stoppage of the payment of PTA levy in all public primary schools. From primary 1 to 6, no more payment of PTA levy in Kwara State,” he said, announcing immediate launch of disbursement of grants for at least 1,717 public schools.

Adaramaja announced the approval of procurement of English and Mathematics textbooks by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, which he said, would be distributed free of charge to pupils of primary 1 to 6.

On the bid opening, the chairman said the intervention would cover critical projects, including the building of a block of two classrooms with an office, construction of VIP toilets, remodelling and renovation of classrooms, drilling of solar powered borehole with tank stand, rehabilitation of digital literacy across the state, procurement of foundation literacy teaching and learning materials for primary 1, fabrication and distribution of two-seater pupils/students’ furniture, and safe schools initiative in some selected local governments, among others.

Adaramajaa hailed the state government for investing in school infrastructure, human capital development and welfare of teachers.

He said the governor had equally approved the payment of 2025 counterpart funds for UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.

He urged contractors, who would eventually get the jobs, to execute them in line with the specifications, warning that shoddy jobs would not be condoned.

Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) hailed the action.

The association described the development as bold.

CSACEFA’s state Coordinator, Abdurrahman  Ayuba, said: ‘’The decision demonstrates government’s commitment to making basic education free and compulsory, aligning with the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Law.

“CSACEFA commends the governor for prioritising education and promoting a more inclusive and equitable education system. CSACEFA Kwara considers the government step as a big win, especially as the coalition has been at the forefront advocating abolishment of PTA levy.

“CSACEFA is thus calling on the heads of schools to ensure prudent and judicious utilisation of expected grant in meeting the needs of their schools.

“We look forward to continued collaboration and support for initiatives that benefit our children and in raising the quality of education in Kwara State and Nigeria.”

Kwara killings: AbdulRazaq, Saraki in verbal war

    • PDP’s bloody legacy traceable to security challenges – Gov
    • Face your responsibility as governor, Saraki tells AbdulRazaq

Kwara State governor Abdulraman AbdulRazaq and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state are at each other’s throat over the current security challenges in the state.

While the governor traced current insecurity in parts of the state to bloody 2018 Offa robbery, the PDP said equating Offa robbery to the current situation amounted to executive cluelessness, asking AbdulRazaq to face his responsibility as the governor.

‎ The PDP in the state had last Monday accused AbdulRazaq of failing to confront the escalating banditry crisis in the state.

The comment came on the heels of last Sunday’s deadly attack in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, which left several residents and vigilante members dead.

The opposition party, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, described the massacre as “a despicable and senseless act” that had thrown the state into mourning, blaming the governor for what it called “monumental leadership failure.”

“The gruesome videos of the casualties circulating online make it look like Kwara is now at war. Under AbdulRahman’s watch, terror is reigning, kidnappers are taking over rural villages, and nowhere is safe again.”

‎Reacting to the remark at the weekend, Special Adviser to Governor AbdulRazaq on Media, Bashir Adigun, said: “The attention of Kwara State Government has been drawn to yet another uncouth, unintelligent, and desperate statement by the tattered opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attempting to “trivialise the blood-soaked tragedy of the 2018 Offa robbery while trying to whitewash the dark legacy of 16 years of PDP misrule in Kwara.

“Offa robbery was not just ‘a single bank robbery,’ as they arrogantly described it.

“It was a national tragedy that claimed dozens of innocent lives, including mothers, fathers, students, children, and uniformed law enforcement officers, whose blood was spilled by criminals that had undeniable links with their political godfather.

‎”Kwarans have not forgotten that the RX Toyota mini-SUV used by the robbers bore the personalised plate number with Saraki’s name, and that the said vehicle was later hidden in a government ministry to evade justice.

‎”The PDP’s attempt to separate their bloody legacy from today’s security challenges is laughable.

‘This is the same party under which Kwara was turned into a theatre of fear, sorrow, cultism, and gangsterism—when so-called “Good Boys” and political thugs unleashed terror on Ilorin residents and rural communities.”

For 16 years, he said, Kwara was a fiefdom under the Pharaoh-like grip of Saraki, until the people rose in a revolution in 2019 to reclaim their freedom.

‎”Governor AbdulRazaq has never shied away from acknowledging the nationwide challenge of banditry and insecurity. But Kwarans are wise enough to know that those who laid the foundation of bloodletting, impunity, and armed thuggery in this state cannot turn around today to pontificate about security.

‎”The PDP should cover its face in shame instead of attacking a Governor who, within six years, has rebuilt schools, upgraded hospitals, opened up rural roads, empowered women and youths, and given Kwarans a new lease of freedom and dignity.”

‎Reacting, the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office took a swipe at the Kwara Sate governor.

The head of the media team, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in a statement signed by him, said: “Our attention had been drawn to the video clip of the statement made by Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq during his belated visit to Oke Ode where bandits recently killed 21 innocent persons in another episode in the series of violent attacks that have become daily occurrences across the Kwara South and North Senatorial Districts.

“In a reckless manner that put on display his usual clueless and weird way of responding to issues, Abdulrazaq equated the frequent attack by bandits ravaging two of the three senatorial districts in the state with the Offa robbery incident and made false, defamatory, and irresponsible insinuations about former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki concerning the sad event that happened seven years ago.

“Our view is that it is either insensitivity or a lack of capacity to appreciate and process issues that will make a governor equate the widespread killing, kidnapping, and maiming of people across two of the three senatorial districts with a robbery incident.

“The state of insecurity has forced residents of over 50 communities in the two senatorial districts to abandon their homesteads and relocate to Ilorin or leave the state entirely.”

Continuing, he said: “If Dr. Saraki called the attention of the state governor and the entire government to the widespread violence against the people and called for action from federal agencies, it amounted to dereliction of duty, lack of valid appreciation of the plight of the people, and total disregard for the safety of the constituents for the governor to resort to throwing tantrums and blackmail over an unrelated incident that has nothing to do with the former Senate President.

“This Office believes Dr. Saraki has achieved his objective if his statement has led to national attention being paid to the killings in Kwara State.

“Also, Dr. Saraki’s speech had eventually compelled the governor to pay a visit to Oke Ode, one of the many towns that have witnessed killings, kidnappings, and maiming of innocent people.

“The handling of the security situation has proven Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to be an incompetent, insensitive, irresponsible, clueless, and unresponsive governor.

“Using the words of the governor, “it is laughable” that a state governor whose state experienced the killing of 21 people in just one community with many others being killed in other communities waited for five days before visiting the affected town while he had the time to junket to another state outside his zone to rejoice with another governor in faraway Imo State who was commissioning projects for the benefit of his people.”

Olaniyonu said “now that he has been compelled to visit Oke Ode to assess the situation on the ground, we would like to know when he will visit other local government areas in the state like Edu, Patigi, Isin, Irepodun, Oke Ero, and other towns in Ifelodun that have been witnessing incessant attacks by the bandits.

“Again, using Abdulrazaq’s words, “it is also laughable” that after six and a half years as governor, one could count on the fingertips how many times the Kwara State Governor called a security council meeting in the state.

“Dr. Saraki’s advice is that the governor needs to expand the membership of the Security Council to include all first and second class traditional rulers so as to engage them in fighting the menace.

“If he fails to tackle the crisis squarely, it will define his eight years in office and this will be a horrible legacy to bequeath to his successor.”

Olaniyonu further said the governor made “reckless insinuations against Dr. Saraki because the former Senate President called him out on his failure to do his job.

“We wonder what he would do to the Governors of the Southwest states who were reported in yesterday’s edition of the Punch Newspaper to have “Tighten Borders Amid Banditry Surge in Kwara”.

“We also expect Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to descend on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade who has expressed concern over the recent killings in Oke Ode.

“Dr. Saraki is not interested in bandying words with the Kwara State Governor. His call is meant to get the governor to show more empathy for the plight of the people and live up to his responsibility as the state’s chief security officer.

“It is obvious that never in the history of Kwara State has the State of Harmony witnessed this level of insecurity which is also being fueled by the insensitivity of the government of the day.

“Like Dr. Saraki stated in his speech in Ilorin on September 27, 2025, we challenge anybody who has a contrary claim that there was any time in the past that Kwara State had been this unsafe and confronted by the threat to lives and property at this level to come up with the evidence.”

Speaking on the Offa robbery case which the governor brought up in the video under reference, Olaniyonu said: “The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office would like to put on record for the benefit of the members of the public that Dr. Saraki has nothing to do with the Offa robbery incident.

“This is a fact known to the powers that be then. It was also confirmed by the legal machinery of the federal government despite their hostility to the person and office that Dr. Saraki occupied at the time.

“In two separate reports dated 22nd June, 2018, and 23rd August, 2018 respectively, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Federation, in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed U. E. stated that there was no evidence directly or indirectly linking Dr. Saraki to the Offa robbery.

“We know that the Kwara State Governor will not only find it difficult to comprehend the contents of such reports, but he will also not believe the fact that one of the planks of the campaign of calumny which propelled him to the Governor’s Office has since collapsed like a pack of cards.”

In the video clip under reference, Olaniyonu said, “Abdulrazaq gave himself out on his dubious move that we have known all the while.

“We knew that he had induced some family members of victims of the Offa robbery to file a civil case in court against the state government, himself as governor, and join Dr. Saraki as a party as a way of further embarrassing the former Senate President.

“The fact is not lost on us that the lawyer defending the aide of the governor, Michael Yinka Fafoluyi, in a libel case filed by Dr. Saraki is also the same lawyer who has been briefed to handle the case filed on behalf of the so-called selected families of Offa robbery victims.

“We also called the attention of members of the public to the press conference by some members of the Offa community under the platform of “Offa Koya, Offa Kowosi” where they distanced the community from the dirty politics of using an unfortunate robbery incident as a tool of blackmail and smear campaign.”

He emphasised that some members of the families of the victims of the Offa robbery represented by Alhaji Abdul Oseni Aditu Eniolohunopa, Hajia Mulikat Jimoh, and Mrs. Danjuma Comfort on August 17, 2025, spoke on a radio Programme at the TNT Radio Station, Offa, where they publicly dissociated themselves from the malicious case in court and warned politicians to “stop seeking to score cheap political points at the expense of their grief”.

“We would like the governor to know that if this slanderous and ridiculous statement he made at Oke Ode is his way of diverting attention from his failure to live up to his responsibility as the chief security officer of our dear state, then he has failed.”

The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office advised Abdulrazaq to stop politicising the unfortunate plight of the victims of the Offa robbery and their families.

“His devious scheme and dirty politics have delayed getting justice and closure for the victims, their families, and the Offa community,” he said.

We will fight insecurity with resources at our disposal, says AbdulRazaq

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has said his administration would fight insecurity with resources at its disposal.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The governor said nowhere in Kwara would be safe for criminals, including kidnappers.

He spoke after a security council meeting on Tuesday night.

Following the recent attack at Oke Ode, the governor said he moved swiftly to brief President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he reiterated his request for additional federal deployment to raid the hideouts.

“The Army Headquarters has since relocated the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2nd Division to Ilorin as part of the renewed efforts to strengthen security operations in the state.

“On Monday night, combined forces of the Army, DSS and Police launched an offensive around Baba Sango, along Kwara–Kogi boundary, neutralising about 15 armed bandits.

“The same operation continued on Tuesday. And yesterday night, I presided over the State Security Council meeting at Ahmadu Bello House, Ilorin, to integrate state and federal assets into a strategy for both Kwara North and South,” he said.

AbdulRazaq assured residents that his administration would not relent in supporting security agencies to keep every community safe.

“I have assurances of the security forces to smoke out and eliminate the criminals from their hideouts.

“We will fight insecurity with every resource at our disposal. Kwara will not be a hiding place for criminals. To any criminal who seeks to destabilise the peace in Kwara, you may run, but you cannot escape justice. Kwara belongs to its people, and their peace will be defended,” the governor added.
