Abdulrazaq flags off residents’ registration exercise

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday flagged off a residents’ registration exercise, an initiative he said would help to generate accurate database, guide government’s developmental plans, and provide relevant information that will enhance security of lives and properties.

The Governor also said such a database will assist in allocation of resources, including citizens’ access to social protection services like health insurance and government’s supports across different demographics.

The Governor presented himself for registration, conducted by the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Residents’ Registration Agency (KWASRRA) Tajudeen Jimoh.

Abdulrazaq in December 2021 launched the KWASSRA, calling it a response to the imperatives for accurate information about every single person who resides in the state and how to plan for their needs in every way conceivable.

“What we are doing today marks the formal commencement of the registration exercise, which will capture relevant data of every resident of Kwara State,” he said at the launch on Monday.

“The essence is to have a reliable data bank of everyone and use same for planning, allocation of resources, and security preparedness. With a reliable database, planning becomes easier and everyone living within our state is easily identified for purposes of planning, social protection programmes and other government services, and security.

“With the right data, we can plan for today and make fair projections for the future. With reliable data, we will know who is employed and who is not, and further deploy resources to tackle other challenges of development.

“My team and I are taking part in it today. I urge everyone to also make themselves available for the data capturing exercise at designated centres and time. When you do that, you are contributing your own quota to sustainable growth and development.”

The exercise will include biometrics to generate a unique identity for each resident.

Abdulrazaq urges Kwarans to work for peace, stability

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has said the people of the State are very peaceful and will avoid any action that may disrupt the peace of the state or cause destruction of lives and businesses.

“I’m confident that the people of Kwara, whether old or young, understand that challenges of life are not to be tackled through actions that may cause further damage or have negative consequences for themselves, their families, our state, and our country,” the Governor said in a statement.

“Kwarans learn from history. Together as a people, we faced the horror of the ENDSARS protest that some roughnecks used as a smokescreen to loot properties, businesses, and attack innocent citizens. We had to deploy scarce resources to support many of the businesses that were ruined so that no further job losses will be recorded. The scars of ENDSARS still remain with many families today.

“I understand that many of our citizens want faster actions to ease the economic situation. This is a valid concern to which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all of us in government continue to respond through multidimensional approaches. However, the worst we can do to ourselves at this time is to adopt any action that may worsen things, especially for businesses or public infrastructure put in place to serve all of us.

“To our young people, social media influencers, and opinion moulders, I urge you to help mobilise for national growth, peace, harmony, improved socioeconomic development, general well-being, and stability. Let us avoid any action that may end in collective regret, loss of lives, or destruction of our common patrimony. A protest of any kind, however well-intentioned, may trigger off destructive actions. Let us not give in to whatever temptations to set off our state or country on the path of instability.

“I commend the different stakeholders in the state, including community associations across the state, for mobilising for peace and stability. That is the way to go as our challenges will not disappear when we turn against one another. Our challenges are better discussed and steadily resolved in an atmosphere of peace and stability.”

AbdulRazaq explains rationale behind planned first GDP computation

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the weekend explained the rationale behind his administration’s move to compute and compile the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first time since Kwara’s creation in 1967.

He said the decision is to have an accurate database for proper planning and socio-economic growth.

“The GDP survey will cover key sectors of the economy such as agriculture, manufacturing, construction and a value-chain of goods and services,” he added.

The governor said this in Ilorin at a one-day sensitisation campaign on the conduct of Kwara State Gross Domestic Product (KW-GDP) exercise 2024.

It was organised by the state Bureau of Statistics, in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), ahead of July 13 when the data gathering exercise would begin in the state.

“Our administration is committed to conducting a comprehensive survey to arrive at the GDP of Kwara State, beginning from July 13,” the governor said through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Usman Ndanusa.

“The objectives of the exercise are to have accurate data, identify key drivers of economic growth as far as our state is concerned, and ensure evidence-based policy decisions in the state, among other benefits.

“With this exercise, investors, development partners and businessmen do not need to guesstimate the status of the state economy before making informed decisions on where they need to put their money. State fiscal policy will now be formulated without sweat because of the importance of GDP for fiscal policy formulation.”

Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the decision of former Senate President Bukola Saraki not to attend yesterday’s Ilorin Durbar in the interest of peace.

PDP said the former governor’s decision to cancel his attendance of the event shows Saraki’s unwavering commitment to the peace and stability of the Emirate and Kwara in general.

But, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq countered, saying Saraki had not attended the Ilorin Durbar since 2019.

As a result, they have plotted to create chaos during the event and falsely attribute it to Dr. Saraki and his supporters.”

AbdulRazaq: brighter days, sustainable growth ahead of President’s reforms

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is optimistic that reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu will refocus the economy and lead to long-term sustainable growth for Nigeria.

He thus predicted brighter days ahead of the ongoing reforms in the country.

Governor AbdulRazaq spoke in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, when he hosted the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to the annual Bareke. He called for continuous support for President Tinubu’s administration.

He said: “The last one year has been a period of determined economic reforms. These reforms are meant to refocus our economy and achieve long-term sustainable growth for our country.

“We acknowledge how the reforms have affected the purchasing power of our people. We plead for patience, support, and understanding while different initiatives are designed to bring lasting ease for all.

“As Allaah says, ease is certain to follow a period of difficulties. There is hope on the horizon.”

AbdulRazaq added that his administration is executing various infrastructural projects, agricultural programmes, and economic initiatives to improve the state’s standing.

“This Sallah and before it, we have committed a lot of resources to support vulnerable households and many others across social strata. For sustainable growth and job creation, we are executing various infrastructural projects, agricultural programmes, and economic initiatives to improve the standing of our state.

“A new national minimum wage is already in the works, along with the consequential adjustments for higher cadres. Kwara will not be left behind in this very important conversation,” he added.

The governor also applauded the Emir for supporting his administration and turning the Ilorin Durbar to a national attraction.

“Tomorrow is Durbar, just as we have some other sociocultural activities in different parts of our state. We thank our communities for reviving our culture. Your Royal Highness stands tall in this regard for how the Durbar is turning out to be a national attraction.

“I am glad that we have an environment that allows our culture to thrive. I urge our people to be peaceful and orderly as they troop out for these cultural events, which are our heritage.

“I have approved that the Durbar be streamed live on Kwara TV and Radio Kwara (Midland FM and Kakaki FM), including their online platforms, so that everyone can see the beauty of this cultural event.”

Emir Gambari praised AbdulRazaq for his huge investments in human and infrastructural development, saying he is proud of his remarkable achievements.

“I am proud of your political progression in the state and Nigeria, and I am more delighted with your remarkable achievements in different sectors. I must say for your achievement, it is ‘res ipsa loquitur’.

“The impacts of the governor can be felt in all spheres of development. I prayed God to grant his second term ambition because he did excellently well in the first tenure, and God answered the prayer. You hardly sit in your office due to your commitments towards transforming the state. I am always proud of you, and Kwarans are proud of you. Kwara is witnessing development under your leadership.”

The monarch urged the people to continue to support the administration for progress and development.

The group specifically commended the Governor for prioritising rural development and giving a sense of belonging to every part of the state in a way not seen in the recent past.

“Aaro Meta Kwara South hails Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on his 5th anniversary as the Governor of Kwara State,” according to the statement signed by its coordinator/president Engr. Adebayo Daramola.
