  • Three die in Ondo road crash

    Three persons are reportedly feared dead in a ghastly auto crash in Olokuta area along Ondo-Akure road in Ondo state.

    The incident which occurred around 8.00 am on Wednesday morning involved a black Toyota marked FGB 940 AA and a blue truck numbered LND 274 XP.

    They were said to have had a head-on collision.

    Sources hinted that the incident was caused by overtaking on the driver side.

    It was learnt that the early morning fog, which covered the cloud might have also aided the inability of the driver to see the incoming vehicles.

    Victims were said to include a woman and a boy suspected to be family, while the driver of the ill-fated truck dashed into the bush.

    Neighbours and motorists were said to have assisted in pulling the vehicle back to see if there were still victims that could be saved.

    However, they were all found dead.

    Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission were struggling to clear the wreckage of the vehicle from the scene of the carnage.

  • Several injured as train derails in Lagos

    Several passengers of the Mass Transit Train Service (MTTS), were reported to have sustained various levels of injuries when a mass transit shuttle train derailed at the Ashade railway crossing on the Agege-Ikeja corridor in Lagos.

    The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday.

    some personnel from various security agencies immediately cordoned off the area, to maintain law and order, while some of the injured were rushed to some hospitals in the neighbourhood, for first aid treatment.

    Mr Augustine Arisa, the Acting Lagos District Manager of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), told NAN that no life was, however, lost in the incident.

    “The derailment happened when the Apapa-bound mass transit train skidded off its tracks at the Asade Railway Crossing at Agege, on the Ikeja Corridor.

    “The shuttle train was going from Ijoko in Ogun, to Apapa.

    “The situation is now under control. We learnt that there was no casualty in the incident as some of the passengers only had minor injuries.

    “Everything is now under control and we are trying to put the train back on the tracks,’’ he said.

    Arisa, however, confirmed on telephone later that an injured passenger from the incident was recuperating at the NRC Hospital, Ebute Meta.

    NAN further reports that the derailment caused a traffic jam along Capitol Road, Agege, which also extended to Mosalasi Alhaja, towards Mangoro area in Ikeja.

    NAN reports that on Nov. 16, 2018 a passenger train derailed around abattoir area of Agege and on June 20 of the same year, a commercial bus also rammed into a moving train around the Agege corridor.

  • Three die in Edo multiple accident

    Three persons have been confirmed dead in a multiple accident that occurred at Ewu hill along the Benin-Auchi-Abuja high way.
    The accident was said  to have occurred when a truck driver lost control and rammed into other vehicles.
    Witnesses said three persons died on the spot while 10 others sustained injuries.
    Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Anthony Okon, who confirmed the accident said it involved four trucks, three cars and one bus.
    He attributed cause of  the accident to break failure and loss of control
    “It was a multiple accident, 28 people were involved, three died, 10 injured while others remain unhurt.”
    Okon stated that officials of FRSC were at the scene of the accident on time to carry out rescue operation and ensure that the obstructions were cleared off the road.
    “The problem is that, that place needs to be dualized. Construction work is going on there, but at snail speed. If it is not dualized, it will continue to happen, just like what happened at Gwagwalada-Abaji-Lokoja in those days.”
  • 23 injured in Christmas eve accident in Ogun

    Twenty three people – including two  children, were injured and hospitalised following five separate accidents that occurred on roads in Ogun State on the Christmas eve.
    According to the Route Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Enlightenment Education Unit, Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, in a release, the Sector Commander, Clement Oladele,  said no life was lost.
    Oladele advised motorists to “drive cautiously” and  to use their day time running lights due to poor visibility most early mornings as well as note the efforts of the Federal Government towards removing  the diversions on the stretch of Lagos – Ibadan Expressway  which has made the  Lagos-Ibadan Expressway more motorable.
    He stated: “A total of five (5) road traffic crashes were  recorded across different parts of Ogun State highways  yesterday, Monday 24  December 2018.
    “The first crash occurred at about 0900hrs on the Ibadan-Lagos expressway around  kwakyama, which involved  5 persons (5 male adult). Two persons were injured (2 Male adult) but no death was recorded in the crash.
    “One Vehicle, a Toyota car was  involved  with registration number SMK82 EY. The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere .
    “The second crash occurred at about 0940hrs on the  Abeokuta -Itori -Ota Lagos corridor around Awowo involving 3 persons (3 male adult)./Three persons were injured (3 male adult).
    “One Vehicle, a truck was  involved with registration number YB921 FKJ. The injured victims were taken to IFO General Hospital .No death was recorded in the crash.
    “The third crash occurred at about,1150hrs on the  Abeokuta- Sagamu road  after Day Waterman School which involved  26 persons comprising (3 male adult, 9 female adult and 14 children).
    “11 persons were injured (5 female adult and 6 children. One Vehicle ,a Mazda bus was involved with registration number FMT884RA . There was no death  recorded in the crash. The injured victims were taken to Federal Medical Center Abeokuta.
    “The fourth crash occurred at about 1520hrs on the  Abeokuta –  Sagamu road  Opposite the Police ICT  College, Abeokuta, which  involved ,5 persons,(2 male adult ,1 female adult,1 male child and 1 female child).
    “One Vehicle, Nissan Almera was involved with registration number AKD75EN.  No death was recorded in the crash. The injured victims were taken to FMC Abeokuta.
    “The fifth crash occurred at about 1815 hrs on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway at  KM,,45.5 RCCG.  Seven persons were involved in the crash (7 male adult) 3 were injured (3 male adult).
    “Two Vehicles were involved,  with registration number KTU997 BE  TOYOTA CAMRY and  IVECO TRUCK XB 758 YRB . The injured victims were taken to Supreme Global Hospital.”
    While wishing motorists a merry Xmas,  the FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, advised them to “drive cautiously.”

  • Accident: Five die,two injured on Sagamu-Abeokuta expressway

    Five persons have died on Tuesday morning in a road traffic accident when two cars collided with each other at Orire – Imo, Ibafo, stretch of the Abeokuta – Kobape – Sagamu road, Ogun State.

    The accident which occurred around 7:25am involved a Honda car marked  EKY 365 FB and Subaru car with registration number KTU 246 AT, also left two other persons with injuries.
    The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic and Compliance and Enforcement Corps(TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, attributed the cause to “over speeding and  loss of control which resulted to head on collision.”
    Akinbiyi added that the victims were evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH).
    He stated: “A Honda with Registration number  EKY 365 FB coming from Abeokuta lost control, veered into the other lane and collided with Subaru car marked  KTU 246 AT, coming towards Abeokuta.
    “Three were initially Injured together with Four Men who died instantly and their bodies have been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH).
    “However, post crash report indicates that another of the injured victims has also died making the no of the dead to five and the  injured two.
  • Accident: Belgore, Kwara APC governorship candidate mourn members

    The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the 2011 governorship candidate of defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr Mohammed Belgore, have mourned the five chieftains of the party who died in a ghastly motor accident.

    The APC chieftains died on Sunday in an auto crash on Oke-Onigbin-Omu-Aran road.

    In a statement, Abdulrazaq said: “I received with sadness the loss of five members of our party in an auto crash as they travelled to Omu-Aran to celebrate the victory of our party in the Saturday by-election.

    “Six party chieftains also sustained injuries in the accident and are now being treated at the Landmark University Medical Centre in Omu-Aran.

    “My condolences go to the families, friends and associates of these compatriots. May God grant them the strength to bear the losses and repose the souls of our departed compatriots. I also commiserate with our party on this sad incident while also wishing the injured quick recovery. “As I said during my earlier visits to the bereaved (families) and those injured, we will ensure they get all the support required at this very trying moment.

    “Also, we will henceforth work with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure that all our members are trained on how to keep to safety guidelines while the campaign lasts.”

    In a statement yesterday, Belgore said: “My condolences go to the families of the deceased as well as to the party. I pray the Almighty God to give them the fortitude to bear this unfortunate loss and for the repose of the souls of our fellow party men who died in the crash. I also pray for speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries.”

     

  • Mobile app for aircraft accidents launched 

    A mobile App for monitoring and investigating aircraft accidents has been launched.

     

    The App will assist the Accident Investigation Bureau of Nigeria (AIB) with investigating aircraft accidents and incidents. 

    According to a statement, the App features a live reporting menu, whereby (pictures/videos) can be uploaded by any user who has witnessed events that could result in aircraft accidents. 

     

    “The application gives us a new and more convenient way to receive aircraft accident report in real time, thereby increasing promotional opportunities with push notifications and more, which depicts its core objectives of accident and incidence investigation reports.

     

    “This app will improve engagement with Nigerians by providing easy and open access to the bureau and its activities. It is flexible and easy to use. Our target is to reach more than 15 million air passengers annually within and out of the Nigerian airspace. Your swift reaction to any in flight incidents may be your patriotic contribution to preventing air crashes.”

  • 10 killed, 34 injured as bus overturns in S/Africa

    Ten people were killed and 34 others injured when a bus overturned on a highway near the South African city of Polokwane, an emergency official said on Friday.

    Paramedics arrived to find the passenger bus lying on its side on the side of the highway on Friday, said Russel Meiring, a spokesman for paramedics firm ER24.

    “Numerous people were found lying scattered around the vehicle,” Meiring’s statement said.

    Among the injured, five people were critically wounded, he added.

    The reason for the accident and the total number of passengers on the bus was not clear.

  • ‘Don’t shun accident, gunshot victims with no clearance’

    The Police Command in Borno State on Friday cautioned hospitals in the state against denying medical care to accident or gunshot victims without police clearance.

    Edet Okon, Police Public Relations Officer of the command, gave the advice in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

    Okon said that the force would want to correct this erroneous impression of no medical attention for gunshot or accident victims without police clearance.

    “The police is stating categorically that no such clearance is needed before accident and gunshot victims are attended to.”

    “The Command wishes to restate its respect for the sanctity of human lives and urges all medical facilities that receive such victims to expedite treatment to save their lives.

    “However, it is required that cases of gunshots/accidents received by any hospital should, while treatment is ongoing, be immediately reported to the police for follow-up investigation and other necessary actions,”he said.

  • Unidentified car kills one, injures two in Ogun – TRACE

    The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps ( TRACE ) in Sango-Ota, Ogun, said on Tuesday that one died while two sustained various injuries in an accident that involved an unidentified car at Ilo-Awera, beside Ivy School, Sango-Ota.

    Mr Adekunle Ajibade, the TRACE Unit Commander at Sango-Ota, who confirmed the incident to our reporter in Ota, said that the accident happened at about 10.40 p.m. on Monday.

    Ajibade explained that an unidentified car that was heading towards the Toll-Gate at Sango-Ota, knocked down a motorcyclist with two passengers, as a result of speeding.

    “Before TRACE officials could get to the scene, one of the victims was rescued by witnesses, while the other two were taken to the General Hospital, Ota.

    “One of the passengers who was rushed to the state hospital at Ota was rejected, due to the serious nature of his injuries and the victim died soon after the doctor commenced treatment at a privately-owned medical facility on Idiroko road.

    “The remains of the deceased passenger have been deposited at the mortuary, while the rider is still receiving treatment at the same hospital,’’ he said.

    The unit commander, however, advised motorists to be cautious while motorcyclists are enjoined to always use crash helmets, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
