The singer announced his decision on his verified X handle, revealing plans to collect his membership card at Imole House in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday.

“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO Tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY 😇 Cc @AAdeleke_01,” the singer wrote.

This move came barely two weeks after Governor Adeleke officially unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

Adeleke had announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, citing a leadership crisis at the national level.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6th, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke had said.

Osun Accord Alleges APC Plotting Parallel Primary After Adeleke’s Emergence

The leadership of the Accord Party in Osun State has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to organise an illegal parallel primary following the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the party’s candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The Nation recalls that a faction of the Accord Party raised objections after Adeleke emerged as the party’s candidate, arguing that the national leadership led by Barrister Maxwell Ngbudem lacks legal backing.

Reacting to the development, the Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, said in a statement that the alleged plan to conduct a parallel primary was aimed at sowing “seeds of disunity, confusion and chaos in the state in the name of our party.”

Akande described the alleged move as another ploy by the APC, which he said is grappling with internal disarray in the face of what he described as the growing acceptance, popularity and goodwill enjoyed by Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, popularly known as Imole, among the people of Osun State.

According to him, the governor’s declaration for, and affiliation with, the Accord Party has further heightened public support for him across the state.

He maintained that the APC’s alleged actions stem from its inability to match the political momentum, support and followership commanded by Governor Adeleke, forcing the opposition to resort to what he described as clandestine tactics.

“APC is sponsoring one of their own card-carrying members, to pose as an aspirant of the ACCORD in a bid to create a crisis in our own party and the state at large.

“We are a law-abiding, democratic, and peace-loving political party. This is to state that only the processes that are recognised by the appropriate national leadership of the party are valid. As such, any primary or aspirant who is outside of this is invalid, null, and void.

“We urge the security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), among other relevant authorities, to be aware of this emerging plot aimed at disrupting public peace. Osun State has moved on.”

Reacting to the development, APC through its Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi said “We held our primary yesterday and we successfully picked our candidate, We are not aware of any other political party primary.”

Accord Party sets caretaker committee, confident of winning Osun governorship

Accord Party has expressed confidence in its ability to win the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, ahead of speculation that Governor Ademola Adeleke may defect to the party.

The party approved the composition of a caretaker committee for its Osun State chapter, appointing Pastor Victor Akande as caretaker chairman. Accord is reportedly one of the options being considered by Adeleke to pursue a second term following the crisis in the PDP that led to his resignation.

In a communique issued after its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, the party also approved the electoral guidelines for the Osun gubernatorial primaries.

It announced a general waiver for Nigerians who recently joined the party and wish to contest elections on its platform, alongside the composition of the Electoral Committee for the 2026 Osun governorship primaries.

The NEC further approved the establishment of Women and Youth Directorates at national, zonal, state, local government, ward, and polling unit levels to strengthen membership drives and grassroots mobilisation.

Passing a vote of confidence in Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem as National Chairman, the NEC lifted the suspension of some members in Osun State in line with its motto: “Oneness and Progress,” as the party prepares for the governorship election. Members were urged to remain focused, loyal, and patriotic, resisting distractions from reactionary forces.

Addressing the gathering, Barrister Mgbudem warned that the party would not tolerate actions that undermine its harmony, stability, or unity, emphasizing that discipline remains a core value. He highlighted that under his leadership, the Accord Party has achieved unprecedented stability, growth, and cohesion, reviving structures and energizing its base to build a party now widely regarded nationwide.

“Let me emphasize clearly today that Accord has no faction anywhere, neither at the national nor at the state levels. We remain one united, indivisible family, firmly guided by our ideology of Oneness and Progress. We will continue to maintain this unity with vigilance and firmness.

“Our commitment to transparency and internal democracy was evident in the smooth conduct of the Edo and Ondo primary elections. Even in instances where tensions emerged, such as the temporary misunderstanding in Edo, we intervened promptly and effectively, restoring complete harmony and reaffirming Accord’s reputation as a party that stands for justice, reconciliation, and fairness.

“The legitimacy and authenticity of our leadership and internal processes have been strengthened through our judicial victories. These outcomes reflect the clarity of truth and the soundness of our party’s constitution. While some have sought to distract the party through unnecessary litigation, we remain unmoved, focused, and committed to the task of nation-building.

“Accord has refused to be distracted by political jobbers or individuals seeking relevance through mischief. Our dedication to progress remains steadfast. In pursuit of expansion and consolidation, the party has continued to attract credible, visionary, and patriotic Nigerians who see Accord as the platform where integrity thrives.

“Our membership growth has been organic, genuine, and reflective of the trust Nigerians now place in our leadership. We have also engaged critical stakeholders across the country through strategic consultations and high-level visits aimed at strengthening our network, deepening grassroots penetration, and building a stronger political community.”

JUST IN: Edo Tribunal dismisses Accord Party’s petition against Okpebholo’s election

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Accord Party (AP) against the declaration of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Party (APC) as winners of the September 21, 2024 governorship poll in Edo State.

In its second judgment on Wednesday, the tribunal, sitting in Abuja held that the petitioners – AP and its candidate in the election, Bright Enabulele – failed to establish their claims with sufficient evidence as required.

The tribunal noted that the petitioners made weight allegations of thuggery, ballots stuffing, harassing and voters’ molestation, but failed to name a single perpetrator.

It further noted that the same petitioners, who sought to be declared winners of the election, claimed that the election was conducted without compliance with the Electoral Act.

The tribunal held that there was no meaningful evidence for it to act upon to nullify the election of Okpebholo and APC and subsequently dismissed the petition in its entirety.

  • Accord Party faction reacts to expulsion of Imumolen, 12 others

Accord Party faction reacts to expulsion of Imumolen, 12 others

Accord Party Faction has reacted to the expulsion of its former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, among other members, describing it as shocking and disturbing.

A faction of the party led by Maxwell Mgbudem, expelled eight members, including Imumolen.

They were expelled for alleged anti-party activities and gross violations of the party’s constitution.

The decision, which followed a meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, also saw three other members suspended.

The expelled members include Comrade Lanre Ogundare, Lagos State chairman; Surajo Ibrahim, Zamfara State chairman; Muktar Abdalla, Borno State chairman; Chief Abiola Samuel Odeoba, former Ekiti State chairman; Dr. Falaye Ajibola, former Ondo State chairman; Prince Adebisi Wale Ganiy; and Dzingina Jacob Ephraim, Nasarawa State chairman. Additionally, the NEC suspended Salimu Lawal Boyi (Katsina State chairman), Fatima Mohammed Zarumi (acting Yobe State chairman), and Abdullahi Isa Kasowa (Bauchi State chairman).

Reacting to this development, the Imumolen-led faction, in a statement on Thursday, signed by its National Organising Secretary, Comrade Lanre Ogundare, said the expulsion was shocking given the ongoing legal dispute over the leadership of the party.

He recalled that Maxwell Mgbudem was appointed as the Caretaker Committee Chairman in February 2023 with a clear mandate to conduct a National Convention within six months.

According to him, instead of fulfilling this obligation transparently, there are allegations that he and the then Secretary, Hon. Ajaja, undertook actions that sought to entrench their positions and sideline other party members.

Clarifying some of the allegations against Imumolen, Ogundare said: “The alleged change in requirements for contesting elections, such as the imposition of a rule mandating candidates to have served a year in the National Executive, was seen as an attempt to exclude interested and qualified members from participating in the National Convention.

    “Sectionalization of Leadership Positions:

Offices were zoned to favor the committee members, with the National Chairman position zoned to the Southeast (Imo State, Maxwell’s home state) and the National Secretary to the Southwest (Ajaja’s region).

“This decision raised concerns of marginalization, particularly of the Northern members of the party, in clear violation of the party’s constitutional provisions on national character.

Bias in the Selection of the National Convention Committee:

“The same caretaker committee, whose members had vested interests in retaining leadership positions, handpicked the convention committee. This lack of transparency fueled further dissent within the party.

“Amid these challenges, 27 state chairmen invited Prof. Chris Imumolen, a prominent and respected figure, to contest for the position of National Chairman.

“This move was seen as a necessary step to rescue the party from leadership stagnation and restore its integrity. Prof. Imumolen’s candidacy was particularly significant as he was the party’s first presidential candidate to demonstrate zeal and commitment to the Party, bringing it to national prominence through his investments and sacrifices.

“During the convention, despite the alleged barricading of the venue by Maxwell’s supporters, Prof. Imumolen’s overwhelming support ensured the convention was held.

“He was subsequently declared the National Chairman. However, it later emerged that Maxwell and Hon. Ajaja, through alleged manipulation and existing relationships, were able to bypass the convention’s outcome and maintain recognition by INEC.

“This factionalization led Prof. Imumolen and his team to seek legal redress. The FCT High Court granted an order recognizing Prof. Imumolen as National Chairman pending the determination of the substantive suit. However, a subsequent order to maintain the status quo resulted in the continued factionalization of the party.

“It is deeply concerning that, while the court case remains unresolved, the Maxwell-led faction would announce the expulsion of Prof. Imumolen and 12 state chairmen.

“This action appears premature, divisive, and lacking in respect for due process. It undermines the principles of internal democracy and further deepens the factional crisis within the party.

“The recent allegations of anti-party activities leveled against Prof. Chris Imumolen and his loyalists by the Maxwell Mgbudem-led faction are not only unfounded but reek of hypocrisy and selective justice.

“It is particularly laughable and ironic that those making these accusations have themselves consistently engaged in acts that undermine the integrity and independence of the Accord Party.”

He urged members of the Accord Party to distance themselves from those who prioritise personal gains and external affiliations over the party’s unity and vision.

“Prof. Chris Imumolen represents a new era of transparent, inclusive, and strategic leadership—a stark contrast to the factional and self-serving tendencies of the Maxwell-Ajaja group,” he said.

Accord Party expels ex-presidential candidate, seven others

The Accord Party (AP) has expelled its 2023 Presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, along with seven other members, for allegedly violating the party’s constitution.

The expelled members include Comrade Lanre Ogundare (Lagos State Chairman), Surajo Ibrahim (Zamfara State Chairman), Muktar Abdalla (Borno State Chairman), Chief Abiola Samuel Odeoba (former Ekiti State Chairman), Dr. Falaye Ajibola (former Ondo State Chairman), Prince Adebisi Wale Ganiy, and Dzingina Jacob Ephraim (Nasarawa State Chairman).

The decision was announced in a communiqué issued after the National Executive Committee meeting, signed by the National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, and the National Secretary, Adebukola A. Ajaja.

Additionally, the party suspended Salimu Lawal Boyi (Katsina State Chairman), Fatima Mohammed Zarumi (Acting Yobe State Chairman), and Abdullahi Isa Kasowa (Bauchi State Chairman) for violating Article 20A (vii), (ix), (xiii), and 20A (1) of the party’s constitution.

The NEC of the party adopted the report of its  7-man Disciplinary Committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) to investigate alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities and breaches of the party’s constitution against the members.

They were accused of causing anarchy and lawlessness, highlighting the need to preserve the party’s constitution and its adherence which is not just expedient but mandatory as the party is supreme.

The NEC however passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem as the authentic National Chairman of Accord and urged him to remain focused in rebuilding, rebranding and strengthening the party to meet the needs and expectations of citizens for a better Nigeria.

The NEC commended his visionary, purposeful, resourceful, innovative, vibrant and progressive leadership that will take Accord to the next level.

The communique said: “NEC welcomed back members who were misled by the expelled former presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Professor Christopher Imumolen who instigated a rebellion against the leadership of the party with a view to destabilising it and bring it to ridicule, disrepute and disaffection amongst loyal party members in particular and Nigerians in general.

“NEC urged members to remain in one Accord as there is no faction in the party, noting that the court has since vacated the interim order Professor Imumolen surreptitiously obtained which naturally expired after seven days as ruled by the presiding judge, Justice M. M. Adamu of the  FCT High Court on 4th September 2024, where he also ordered the intruders to vacate the party national secretariat which they forcefully took over on Saturday, 31st August 2024. The expelled members vacated Accord National Secretariat immediately which brought their plot to destabilize the party to an end.

“Accord has commenced massive membership drive aimed at repositioning the party as a major stakeholder in the democratic process and urged every member to be a good Ambassador of our great party in the quest for sustainable democracy and development in the country.”
