Obahiagbon who spoke at an APC campaign rally at Iguoshodin in Ovia North East Local promised to use of the nottom-Top approach in the execution of his constituency projects.

He explained that the approach was because most projects attracted by lawmakers were executed without consultation.

Obahiagbon, who served former Governor Adams Oshiomhole as Chief of Staff said the Bottom-Top approach would make the communities to be part owners of the projects, but would also see to the execution of projects that have direct impact on them.

According to him, “To me, and I think will have always dump projects on the people without consulting them on what they want.

“We have always work on the assumption that the projects we give them is what they want and this have often turn out to be a great disservice to them.

“When elected, I will work with the people, and consult with them in terms of projects needed, we are not going not use the Top-bottom approach again in executing constituency projects.”

On his part, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, the APC candidate for  the Ovia Federal Constituency,  urged the people to ensure election of quality representative to the NASS to improve their lots.

Idahosa stated that he has the “right ingredient” to make meaningful impact on the lives of the people.

“When you give us your mandate, our constituency and by extension, the state will never be the same again.

“We (NASS and State Assembly), will work in synergy with the Federal, State and Local Governments to ensure growth in all areas of our lives,” he said.

  • PDP begs Buhari to visit Benin Central hospital

The People’s Democratic Party in Edo State has begged President Muhammadu Buhari to pay a visit to the new five star Benin Central hospitals he (Buhari) commissioned two years ago.

It urged President Buhari to not only come to Edo to campaign for votes but to see if the Central Hospital projects he was made to commission by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole is actually working.

State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, in a press statement said the “5 star hospital” has neither recorded any out-patient, nor admitted any in-patient.

Chief Orbih said the building hosts only rodents and reptiles.

Orbih states that former Governor Oshiomole ‘cleverly executed the project as a scam to defraud the state and deny the people access to good health facilities.

He urged President Buhari to prevail on Edo State government to avail Edo people the dividends of democracy, particularly in the health sector.

According to him, “Our concern over this despicable act, Mr. President, is not just that billions of taxpayers’ money was sunk into this phoney project, but you were persuaded to commission a non-existent hospital that makes it look like you were party to the deceit and fraud.

“Mr. President we urge you to pay a second visit to the central Hospital to enable you appreciate the disappointment of the people over this central Hospital scandal of fraud and deceit. We call on you to use your office to direct relevant government agencies to commence immediate investigation and necessary action to bring the principal actors to book.

  • Buhari has performed well in South-East, says Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), said on Friday that President Muhammadu Buhari had done substantially well for the South-East to deserve the people’s massive support in the February polls.

Oshiomhole said this at a rally in Umuahia to formally handover the party’s flag to the governorship candidate of the party in Abia, Chief Uche Ogah, as well as the state and National Assembly candidates.

He said that Buhari’s developmental strides in the zone in less than four years of his administration was enough to prove his critics wrong.

He listed the reconstruction of Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressways, the construction of the Second Niger Bridge and completion of Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s mausoleum in Onitsha, as some of the president’s achievements in the area.

The party’s national chairman therefore urged the people of the zone to vote massively for Buhari’s re-election.

He admonished them not to repeat the mistake they made in 2015, when they allegedly voted against APC.

He further charged them to vote for Ogah and other APC candidates in the polls to ensure the rapid transformation of the state.

He described Ogah as a product of self-effort, industry, creativity and enterprise.

He said, “Ogah is self-made. He is not coming into government to steal your money.

“I’m happy that in Abia we had a direct primary that produced him. It was transparent. I’m proud of him.”

Also, former Gov. Orji Kalu, who is the Abia North Senatorial candidate of APC, said that Abia would give Buhari 70 per cent vote in the Feb. 16 election.

He berated the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu led-administration for allegedly failing to utilise the state’s resources to transform the state.

Orji decried the poor state of infrastructure in the state, saying that Abia had not witnessed any meaningful development since he left office in 2007.

He expressed the hope that Ogah as a businessman would replicate his success story in his private business in governance, if elected.

In his speech, Ogah, an oil merchant, promised to make the people of Abia happy when elected.

“Abia rejoice! Your light has come and the glory of God has risen upon you,” he said, amidst loud ovations from his teeming supporters at the Umuahia Township Stadium, venue of the rally.

Ealier, Chief Donatus Nwamkpa, the state Chairman of the party, said that APC painstakingly chose credible candidates for all the elective offices in the state.

Nwamkpa assured the people that an APC government would put an end to the sufferings of the people and salvage the state from many years of economic underdevelopment. (NAN)

  • Yoruba youths to Oshiomhole: Leave Amosun alone

A group, Yoruba Youths Congress (YYC) has urged the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Adams Oshiomhole to desist from causing unnecessary political tension in Ogun state.

The National President of the group, Prince Dapo Adepoju who spoke in Akure, the Ondo state capital on Saturday said the teeming Yoruba Youths would no longer condone any further insult from Oshiomole on Amosun.

The group described Amosun as one of the prominent leaders of the Yoruba race.

Adepoju said the governor had done a lot in developing the southwest region through his various monumental projects in Ogun state.

The group said Amosun has held several meetings with various stakeholders in the southwest region on the need for the Yoruba people to re-elect President Buhari.

YYC said “What really baffles us is the fact that Amosun has held series of meetings with various stakeholders across southwest on the need to re-elect President Buhari in 2019.

“We make bold to say that it is not every leader that can convene such meeting as most of the leaders have lost trust in the region.

” Lots of interest groups including traditional rulers, market men/women groups, artisans and even civil society groups had heeded the call of governor Amosun.

“It now came as a surprise to us whenever we read in the newspaper how Oshiomole has been throwing tantrums at our revered leader.

The youths group threatened that it may not allow Oshiomhole to have access to the region, if he continues with such act.

  • Can Operation wabaizigan stop Edo bad boys?

Criminals have held Edo State by the jugular carrying on as though they are beyond the law, but the state government is set to battle them to a standstill with Operation wabaizigan, writes OSAGIE OTABOR reports

“Wabaizigan”, the Bénin word meaning ‘stop all bad things’, is the code name for the new security architecture recently unveiled by Governor Godwin x Obaseki. In the past Edo State had “Operation Thunderstorm’ under Adams Oshiomhole and “Operation Wipe” during the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion.

Before Monday’s unveiling of the new security architecture, Governor Obaseki has been blamed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party of not spending money especially from the alleged N400m monthly security vote. Cult related killings, armed robbery and kidnapping have been on the rise in the state.

Both “Operation Wipe” and “Operation Thunderstorm” made some achievements but the structure of the “Operation Wabaizigan” is different as the first batch of 3000 youths trained in intelligence gathering and community policing were part of the structure. To show his commitment to the success of the security structure, Governor Godwin Obaseki launched the Security Trust Fund with a commitment of N2 billion seed fund in next year’s budget.

Obaseki also purchased and donated 50 special security cars fitted with modern communication and security gadgets; 30 Toyota Hilux patrol vans; 30 patrol motor bikes, three Tropicalised Armoured Personnel Carriers and three Ambulances.

There would be an Integrated Command and Control Centre and five special security check points to be manned at all the entry and exit points in the state. There would also be Special Patrol Units in both the land and waterways as well as an Integrated Electronic City Surveillance Unit. A Special Force unit/anti-kidnapping squad was established and a K-9 unit supported by paramedics unit and 1000 members of the Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) scheme who were trained at the Police Training School. They are to be provided with a community police radio network.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Bénin City, Governor Obaseki said it was to ensure that various security outfits in the state lived up to their responsibilities in dealing with the security challenges such as kidnapping, armed robbery, car theft and other social vices.

Governor Obaseki urged various stakeholders including traders, market women and other well established institutions and organizations to join his administration in the task of making life and living meaningful for the people and a secure society by pooling their resources and provision of vital information to boost the government’s ideal initiative.

Obaseki said the new security structure was in fulfillment of the promises he made to people of the state during his electoral campaign to turn the state around by fashioning out ways to deal with key development challenges adding that the new security architecture would address the long overdue challenges in tackling violent crimes and other vices.

The Edo Governor promised not to relent in his assistance to various security agencies to be more functional with concerted efforts to circumvent crime and criminalities with the deployment of accurate operational materials and equipment fit for security purposes to pave way for combating security challenges facing the state and the nation.

Governor Obaseki noted that it was imperatives that security councils in the 18 local government areas, traditional rulers, hunters and vigilante groups  provide the security outfits with vital information towards achieving round the clock results.

According to him, “We decided therefore that the new security architecture is something that we must do as a matter of priority and importance.  Indeed we are making our equivocal statement about our commitment to improve our vital institutions and processes upon which these institutions are based.

“Apart from the police, Military, Department of State Security and other security agencies, we are recruiting 100 young men and women from each ward across Edo State. The first 1,000 of them have been recruited and trained by the Nigeria Police, as they will help in intelligence gathering, and monitoring of government assets across the state. We believe by involving the community, we would be able to obtain enough information as to what is going on in the state. The effectiveness of our new strategy is based on community participation.”

He praised Chairman of the Edo State Security Trust Fund, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede for kickstarting and donating N200 million to the fund and pledged to do everything within its powers to secure the Heart Beat state as a nodal or get way to other states across the country.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Idris, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Inyang, hailed the Governor for embarking on what he termed ambitious project and urged the private sector to support the fund to bolster policing across the state.

“We are very happy to witness this wonderful gesture. I want to call on all on other private and public enterprises to support this initiative so that what succeeded in Lagos will also succeed in Edo State. Gone are the days that people left policing for the police alone. I also want to thank the Chairman of the Trust Fund for deeming it fit to come and assist the state.

“With the launch of this security architecture, Edo people and residents will now sleep with their eyes closed. I am also aware that gun boats have been procured in addition to the vehicles and other equipment we are launching today.

“This means we will be able to cover activities on land and sea which will be augmented with aerial surveillance using the Police helicopter. With all these efforts, Edo will become very safe for everyone. The security architecture will ginger security agencies to collaborate more, and where there is collaboration there will be coordination among us.”

Aig-Imoukhuede who was former Managing Director of Access Bank said he was instrumental to the establishment and success of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. He assured that he would join efforts with other Edo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to replicate the success story of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, in Edo State.

“I and the companies I represent donate the sum of N200 million to the fund. I call on citizens of Edo State to join hands with the Edo State government and all the security agencies to make the state safe and peaceful for all.

“This process is not for the government alone but also for the private sector, companies and individuals to join hands with the state government in pushing the agenda for a peaceful Edo State.”

Edo State Police Commissioner of Police Johnson Kokumo commended the governor for the support he has extended to the police command, which he said has made the state safer for residents.

  • Okorocha missing as Imo APC guber campaign kicks off

    • Oshiomhole accuse Imo Gov of anti-party

The governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress(APC) kicked off on Friday in Owerri with Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha conspicuously missing.

But the National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomole led other national officers of the party to the event.

Members of the State Executive Committee of the party were also absent at the scantily attended ceremony.

The usual crowd that attends APC gatherings in the state was missing as only supporters of the governorship candidate, Hope Uzodinma, gathered at his Campaign Headquarters along Okigwe road where the event held.

Oshiomhole, who has been in a running battle with the Imo governor, accused him (Okorocha) of frustrating the APC candidate, an action he described as anti-party.

He stated by denying the APC candidate use of the stadium, the governor has shown he is working against the party.

But the Okorocha swiftly described claim he locked the stadium as false.

Oshiomole said the stadium was built with tax payers’ money and not Okorocha’s personal fund, recalling how Okorocha cried out in 2011 when the then governor, Ikedi Ohakim, stopped him from using the stadium for his campaign.

Oshiomhole also accused the governor of neglecting the people of the state with his style of governance.

He said: “Let me appreciate the members of the National Working Committee for coming to join the governorship candidate of our party, we approach with one simple message.

“It is a message of Hope, not a message of lamentation. I want you to listen because for me campaign is not about entertainment.

“Today, we have come to deliver the message of Hope although things have gone wrong in the past.

“We have come to return the government of Imo state to the great people of Imo state.

“We have come to tell you that we have respect for you people.  The next governor in the person of Senator Hope Uzodimma will restore all that have been destroyed.

“Please Imo people cool temper. Today is a day to pass a message of Hope. Today we desire to talk to the young people especially to my fellow colleagues the civil servants.

“The days are gone for a governor who will look at people and say there is money to do other things and not to pay civil servants”.

He went on: “I want to tell you that those governors that were given money including the governor of Imo state that did not use it for that purpose will be retrieved.

“Buhari has adopted Hope Uzodimma as the governor of Imo state. I want you to go and tell people what I said.

“Nigeria needs to produce political leaders that have political concentration.

“How will you believe that an APC governor will lock the stadium against an APC, governorship candidate?

“It is the tax payers’ money that is used to build that stadium and not his personal money”.

  • Oshiomhole: smaller parties soliciting money to endorse presidential candidates

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Wednesday knocked smaller parties for soliciting money to endorse presidential candidates of their bigger counterparts.

He accused them of bastardising the Supreme Court judgement which states the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should register as many political parties as possible.

Oshiomhole stated many of the existing political parties have been busy making brisk business from the so- called bigger parties, demanding money to endorse presidential candidates instead of producing their own.

Speaking when a delegation of the National Democratic Institute and the International Republic Institute visited the APC headquarters in Abuja, Oshiomhole also lashed out at civil society groups.

He alleged many of them are being sponsored by political parties as election observers.

He recalled as Edo governor, some of the civil society groups solicited for money from him to write favorable reports.

He said many political parties, which he described as democratic merchants, have approached him demanding for money to endorse the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former Labour leader lamented the entire political process is being turned into a platform for trading.

He said: “I can tell you how many requests I have from these so called political parties that if you pay me this we will announce that we are supporting your presidential candidate.

“So people have formed political parties as platform for trading. We must be careful so that in the name of freedom, we do not create democratic merchants, creating more confusion, generating more heat.”

The APC helmsman added: “I was President of NLC for eight years and we were not foreign funded but were and still remain membership driven,  membership based and membership controlled.

“So, I am at home with using the tools that are legitimate in a democratic process namely persuasion, convincing people and putting your message across and communicating vertically and horizontally so that the people can decide why they should choose this person rather than that person.

“That is the gift that I have and as chairman of this party. That is what we are trying to do.”

  • Oshiomhole: I stand with workers on minimum wage

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has backed workers on demands for a new minimum wage.

He said paying refusal to pay a living wage amounts to creating a circle of poverty for the masses.

The former Edo State governor said improving the purchasing powers of workers cannot be overemphasised because when people cannot afford good and services, manufacturers are forced to close shops, leading to loss of jobs.

He said there was no basis for governors to insist on not paying what he described as living wage to workers.

He assured workers President Muhammadu Buhari will not do anything that will undermine their welfare.

Oshiomhole spoke at a reception for President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Ayuba Wabba on his election as President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and Financial Secretary of NLC, Comrade Safiyanu Mohammed, who was appointed as the Africa regional secretary of the International Transport Federation.

He said if governors of the 36 states receive the same salaries irrespective of their revenue bases, there was no reason why wages of workers should not be the same across the country.

The former NLC President said: “I am sure you must have read some of my comments on the minimum wage. I have told people that even I was to become the Secretary General of the United Nations I am a creation of Labour and I will never, publicly or privately, do anything that will undermine or do anything that is designed to possibly affect the welfare of Nigeria workers.

“I am a believer Nigeria needs to have a National minimum wage. I do not belong to those who say because we are in a Federation, we should have different wages.

“I join in amplifying that we cannot apply the principles of federalism separately.

“If we have the National Salaries and Wages Commission that makes it possible for me as governor of Edo State presiding over about 4.3 million population to earn the same salary as the governor of Kano and Lagos state who are presiding over 15 million, that argument cannot change when it comes to fixing a National minimum wage.

“The primary purpose of government is the welfare of the people. The most portent asset of the people is the state that protects you from the oppressor.

“This President is not about to put that asunder no matter the pressure from any section of governors or state.

“I believe that we have to work together not only to get wages fixed, but to ensure also that they are paid. When the President makes public statements like the ones he has made, he has challenged you to take advantage and make sure that when he provide those resources as he has done almost four times, you ensure that they are used for the purpose for which he provided the money. If you don’t, I don’t think you have someone else to blame.

On the position of governors that they cannot pay the N30, 000 demanded by labour as minimum wage, Oshiomhole: “Minimum wage is not about party but about Nigeria.

“When I was a member of the governors’ forum, I did publicly advise my colleagues then that when it comes to the issue of minimum wage, I am not with them. Not only secretly but publicly too, I am going to dissociate myself.

“I believe that we need a National minimum wage. I believe that Nigeria is capable of paying a National minimum wage.

“I believe the primary purpose of government is the welfare of the people and that payment of wages is not a process of prosperity.

“If Nigeria was to wake up tomorrow and there is no one liter of oil and you must employ a worker, you are obliged to pay.

“Wages is a consequence of work. He who must employ must pay and even the Bible says a laborer is entitled to his wages.

“I believe this view and I have canvassed them. I had an extensive interview on this and I spoke extensively on it.”

  • APM candidates launch smear campaign against Oshiomhole

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) and its candidates in Ogun State have, allegedly, launched a blistering billboard – based smear campaign against the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to boost their electoral fortunes in the forthcoming general elections.

The APM candidates accused Oshiomhole of perpetrating “monumental electoral fraud” during APC primaries in Ogun state.

The Nation sighted the  billboard on Monday morning and observed that it bears the image of the APM governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, on the left hand side and that of Hon. Tunde Wasiu Sanusi, State House of Assembly candidate for Obafemi -Owode state Constituency, on the right hand side.

It stands erected at a vantage strategic location by the ever busy Siun junction corridor of the Abeokuta – Kobape – Sagamu road, where no eyes could miss noticing it.

The party and the candidates, therefore, pleaded with the electorate to “please vote massively for APM to claim our (their) mandate.”
