ADC: Coalition of Atiku, Obi can’t unseat Tinubu in 2027 – Support group

The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) in Ondo State has described the coalition of opposition figures under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “shadow-chasers.”

The support group said the coalition, led by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, which plans to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, lacked the strength and credibility to challenge the incumbent.

According to the group in a statement released by its spokesperson in Akure, Ojo Oyewamide, the recent unveiling of the coalition in Ondo state led by Bode

Ayorinde is an “exercise in futility and a tall order” that would soon crumbled.

The GMT explained that the unveiling, which was full of the members of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Prof. Ayorinde, stand no chances to challenge President Tinubu re-election.

“Unveiling them as members of the ADC in Ondo State, a faction of the PDP led by Bode Ayorinde, a former member of the House of Representatives, said the party would dislodge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Aso Rock in 2027.

“They are a group of shadow-chasers. It will be a tall order for them because most Nigerians can’t be fooled again.

“The PDP has been losing elections in the state for some years now. Is it a faction of the party that will now perform wonders? Is it the faction led by Ayorinde that will now change their story of electoral failures? What is new about them?,” he queried.

According to the group, “It is expected that they will interrogate the intentions of the disgruntled politicians who are congregating in the ADC. Nigerians are expected to scrutinise their histories. Nigerians are expected to examine their policy alternatives. Will merely moving from PDP to ADC change who they are?

“These are the people that providence has given several opportunities to govern the country at various levels. What did they do with power? What is the impact of the various positions they held in past on nation-building and national development?

“President Tinubu is a visionary, courageous and focused leader. He has a vision of a greater Nigeria. He has identified the path to take in order to realise this vision. Though the path is painful, he has the courage and wisdom to lead our dear country through the path.”

However, as part of the strategy to intensify support for President Tinubu relection in 2027 election, the group has also announced a fresh wave of appointments ahead of the official inauguration and opening of its state secretariat in Akure.

It announced: a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Olayato Aribo, as the Senatorial Coordinator for Ondo North; a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lola Fagbemi as the Central Senatorial District Coordinator; a former Council Chairman, ex-House of Representatives member, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon. Albert Akintoye was named the Southern Senatorial District Coordinator.

Other appointed state officers include the former Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly and former Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Fatai Olotu, Bisi Ogungbemi, APC South West Youth leader, Pafff Lawal Kolade.

Also appointed are Olubunmi Ademosu, Yemi Olowolabi, Olatunji Ifabiyi, Morinola Olanipekun, Yetunde Adeyanju, Oluborode Olakunle and Olamide Falana.

The local government coordinators include: Awe Azeez, Gbenga Felemu, Alhaji Saliu Adeyemi, Yomi Falana, Alhaji Isiaka Elegberunibon, Gbenga Olaniyi, Victor Akinduro, Rotimi Adeleye, Tobi Ogunleye, Alhaji Khaleel Akinbani,Olamide Ifedayo,Oluborode Olakunle, Sola Adekugbe, Igbekele Akinrinwa, Tope Akoje, and Banji Ehuwa.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos has welcomed a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran with other key members of the PDP coalition into the party.

This ceremony took place at the ADC office in Ikeja, Lagos.

Other key members who also received their cards include: Chief Onita Coker, Hon. Kayode Jacobs, Dr. Tai Oyekan, Hon. Steven Olanrewaju, Hon. Hakeem Kolawole Olanrewaju, and Prince Segun Adeyeye.

The event also had in attendance Mabel Oboh, an ADC chieftain/Lagos leader and the former National Publicity Secretary of the ADC.

The ADC Lagos Chairman, George Ashiru along with the members of the State Working Committee (SWC) expressed their strong support for Owokoniran’s move.

The SWC emphasised that his extensive experience and expertise will not only enhance the party’s presence in Lagos State but also positively impact the community.

In his acceptance speech, Owokoniran thanked the ADC leadership and members for their warm reception.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the party to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria, focusing on advancing ADC’s principles and goals.

Owokoniran’s alignment with the ADC marks a promising advancement for the party, as his political background is expected to strengthen its presence in the area.

The ADC’s endorsement of Owokoniran and the accompanying PDP members is seen as a vital step in raising the party’s profile in Lagos State. His leadership is anticipated to play a key role in shaping the party’s future narrative and communication strategy.

  • ADC: Moro, Chinda reject coalition, say political gang-up won’t work

ADC: Moro, Chinda reject coalition, say political gang-up won’t work

Senator Abba Moro, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly, and House Minority Leader, Honourable Kingsley Chinda, have distanced themselves from the ongoing coalition talks within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a Facebook video, Senator Moro—who represents Benue South and is a long-time loyalist of Senator David Mark—firmly stated: “I’m not joining any coalition, I’ve not joined any coalition, I do not intend to join any coalition. I think the politics of gang-up is not a solution to our problems.”

Speaking separately with The Nation, Hon. Chinda echoed Moro’s stance, affirming his continued loyalty to the PDP. He argued that the coalition effort was fundamentally flawed and bound to fail.

“I agree with him (Senator Moro) completely. I won’t join or ask anyone to join their coalition,” Chinda said. “It won’t work—I’ve seen the litigations and internal conflicts brewing within their ranks. Their agenda is already collapsing under its own weight.”

Their statements align with a similar declaration by the Imo State chapter of the PDP, which also rejected any involvement in the ADC coalition, reaffirming its commitment to the PDP.

Senator Abba Moro, who stated that he was first elected into office under the PDP platform in 1999, explained his stand further:

“I became a member of the People’s Democratic Party in 1998, in its formative years so, I think I am qualified to see myself as a founding member of the PDP, as one of the first sets of those elected on the platform of that party.

“Precisely on December 8, 1998, local government elections were conducted across the country, and I contested, won and on May 29, 1999, I became the executive chairman of Okpokwu local government in Benue state.

At various other times, I was council chairman, either as a caretaker chairman or as an elected chairman, and I was the ALGON chairman of Benue State.

“I have come a long way with the PDP, I have never defected, never joined any other party and as I’m talking to you now, I’m a bona fide member of PDP.

“I’m not joining any coalition, I’ve not joined any coalition, I don’t intend to join any coalition, and quite frankly, I think that we should approach Nigeria with a serious mind of electing people who are prepared to govern this country for the people of Nigeria.

“I think it is inappropriate to begin to take decisions based on grievances, based on failed expectations, arising from frustrations of rising expectations, and so, today, I want to encourage all of us to utilise existing platforms to run elections.

“I know that there are some limitations, there are some concerns about some of the policies of the present administration, I know that people are hurting, I know that people think that enough has not been done.

“But I think the politics of gang up is not a solution to our problems; and so I think that if we are heading in the wrong direction, we should be able to retrace our steps and head in the right direction,” Moro stated in the video address to his supporters.

In a statement sent by the Imo state PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiaku Lancelot Ifeanyi to The Nation in Abuja, the Imo State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, the party warned members and the general public to disregard the false narratives being peddled by disgruntled former PDP members who are hoping to destabilise the party, stressing that they will not be part of such an agenda.

“These baseless claims are the handiwork of failed politicians driven by selfish interests and personal gain; there is no coalition whatsoever, PDP remains committed to its values and principles, and will resist any attempt to undermine its integrity,” he stated.

The Imo state PDP further alleged that intelligence reports ongoing attempts by some individuals to divide the party and weaken its strength, especially in Imo State, with the unrealistic hope of gaining support for their coalition agenda.

Emphasizing that the Imo state chapter of the PDP will not succumb to any agenda that is in pursuit of a power shift to the North in 2027, they asserted that such agenda which is being secretly championed by some leaders of the ‘coalition’ clearly represents a betrayal of the PDP’s long-standing tradition of power rotation.

While reiterating that the PDP is open to welcoming new members, the statement emphasised that it would not be part of any political arrangement that compromises the party’s core principles.

Party members across Imo State were urged to remain vigilant, ignore the “false narratives,” and stay committed to ensuring the PDP’s victory in the 2027 elections.

“Together, we will ensure that PDP remains the dominant force in Imo State and Nigeria,” the statement concluded.

  • Why ADC can never be like ANC

Why ADC can never be like ANC

    • By Bishir Dauda Sabuwar

Sir: I listened to Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita of Katsina North on Radio France International Hausa at the weekend saying that they would enthrone party supremacy in ADC. According to Babba Kaita, their aim was to transform ADC to be like ANC—African National Congress of South Africa.

This is mere rhetoric. This is because at the beginning, the ANC was not hijacked from anybody. It had a solid foundation, clear-cut ideology, and discipline. It has never been a “special purpose vehicle.” Had it been that the ANC was a product of hijacking; it couldn’t have lasted for 113 years.

From 1912, the year the ANC was founded, how many years did it take her to end apartheid and wrestle power? Was it in two years? They spent 82 years working tirelessly, including waging gruelling guerrilla warfare. Nelson Mandela had to spend 27 years in prison. Steve Biko was killed. Hundreds of people were murdered. The party was once outlawed. Yet it survived. You don’t build a party on quicksand.

If the ANC could be established under apartheid and it survived all the intrigues and subterfuges, I don’t see why Ahmad Babba Kaita and coalition leaders couldn’t found their own political party instead of hijacking an existing party. Like what Dr. Umar Ardo said, you can’t liberate Nigeria on the platform of a special purpose vehicle. What happened in Abuja on the day the coalition unveiled their SPV was a scandal. It was laughable when Ralph Nwosu claimed that all the executives of the party had resigned. It showed that the party is not well organized.

Just one man in Abuja would hand over a political party without following due process!

That is why I agree with APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who described the coalition as “obsessed merchants of vendetta….A coalition of egotistical maniacs for whom power and patronage are the oxygen on which their lives depend.”

The coalition would have been more convincing if they emulated the former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, who left ANC and formed his political party called Umkhonto we Sizwe, and he performed spectacularly well in the last general election in South Africa.

In the UK, the coalition could learn from British politicians like Nigel Farage of the Reform UK Party or Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana or even from Elon Musk in the US, who, instead of resorting to hijacking political parties, opted to establish their own from scratch.

I don’t think someone can liberate Nigeria through political hijacking and manipulation. There is a world of difference between power grabbing and governance.

You’re trudging on path of lies, deception, APC blasts ADC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as lies the allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the governing party are plotting to undermine and destabilise the opposition coalition party.

ADC Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi in a statement on Monday levied the allegation against the President and the ruling party.

Citing “credible intelligence”, ADC alleged that its party state chairmen in the North East and North West zones were summoned to a “secret meeting with officials of the federal government”, in a plot to intimidate and coerce the opposition coalition.

Trashing the allegation, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday said that ADC has chosen to trudge on the “beaten path of lies and deception like its opposition counterparts, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).

APC noted that beyond the rash of poorly imagined accusations, the statement did not offer substantiation of any kind.

According to the ruling party, “It’s vague reference to “officials of federal government” only belies the mischievous intent of its makers to whip up sentiments, manipulate public opinion, and distract Nigerians from the patent hopelessness of their political phishing expedition.

“Otherwise, why is it so impossible for ADC to provide Nigerians the details of the alleged “secret meeting” at which its senior party officers were “coerced and intimidated”. Rather, the party cites nonsensical “credible intelligence” as basis for its devious allegations.

“Clearly, there was no such meeting, and certainly, no one could have been coerced or intimidated at a meeting that never was. This could have happened only in the warped imagination of masters of deception and marauding invaders of the ADC.”

The ruling party argued further that there was no reason for the President or APC to expend valuable time and energy trying to sow confusion within ADC that is already mortally wounded by confusion delivered by its invaders.

“The ADC needs no help from our great Party to unravel as it must from its own internal dissonance, contradictions and discord of self-serving and vainglorious personalities that executed a gestapo-like takeover of the party to the chagrin of bonafide leaders and members of the party.

“The ADC’s statement is just a calculated preemptive excuse for its evident ill-fated future of disintegration, like Humpty Dumpty whose great fall could not be put back together again. It has placed on public display the incompetence and inability of its leadership to manage its impending internal crisis, in the same way they proved incapable of managing the internal affairs of opposition parties they have plundered serially before the ADC.

“And what good can possibly come out of a coalition of our country’s most inept politicians and architects of misrule, corruption, poverty and underdevelopment who are now congregated in ADC? What else can be expected from a coalition of failed and restless presidential contenders determined to bring down the roof on the altar of their inordinate ambitions?

“As an agglomeration of politicians desperate for presidential power, the ADC has nothing to offer Nigerians and has failed to articulate any alternative vision of governance and development for Nigeria beyond the sound and fury of grudge, vendetta, inordinate presidential ambitions of its leaders. Their strategy appears to begin and end with vilifying our great party and attacking President Tinubu’s incomparable and unassailable record of economic reconstruction and wholesome transformation of our country.

“The ADC and its leaders may be convinced of their ability to lie their way to presidential victory but they have a highly intelligent and discerning Nigerian electorate to contend with.

“They say one thing, mean another and do yet another. From Mr. Peter Obi’s desperate vow to serve a single term of four years if elected as president, and his pledge to fly only commercial airlines as president, even though he campaigned with steeze and opulence in private jets throughout the 2023 election season; to Mallam El-Rufai who failed spectacularly in comparison to mind-blowing transformation of Abuja by the award-wining incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike; to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola whose lack-luster performance as Minister of Interior is now so glaring in the face of the innovation and super efficiency introduced by the current Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; to Hadi Sirika whose tenure as Aviation Minister was characterised by invidious scandals, aside floating a phantom Nigerian Air, now even more disgraceful in comparison with the drastic improvements in our airports and the aviation sector, in general, under the watch of Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, none of the proponents of the coalition has the vision, the courage, competence, credibility, track record, zeal and patriotism to serve Nigeria better than President Bola Tinubu is already doing.”

2027: Jegede, Ajayi to lead opposition coalition in Ondo under ADC platform

As political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections intensifies, two key opposition figures in Ondo State—Eyitayo Jegede and Agboola Ajayi—are set to lead a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Jegede and Ajayi, who were the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidates in the 2020 and 2024 elections, respectively, will spearhead the coalition alongside other prominent PDP leaders.

Among those joining the coalition are former Ondo South Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, ex-lawmaker Prof. Bode Ayorinde, former PDP State Chairman Tola Alabere, former PDP Publicity Secretary Kennedy Peretei, and Sola Agboola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Speaking at the inauguration of the coalition’s state structure in Akure on Tuesday, Prof. Ayorinde said the movement into ADC reflects growing public dissatisfaction with the status quo.

He emphasised that the coalition, also being championed at the national level by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola, is built on grassroots mobilisation rather than financial inducement.

Ayorinde added that ADC membership cards would soon be distributed across wards and local government areas to facilitate expansion across the state’s 18 LGAs.

“We called Eyitayo Jegede, who should have been here but was unavoidably absent because of his engagement in Abuja. We have also reached Agboola Ajayi, who is already with us and has our support anytime.

“So, we need everybody on board, and our membership would cut across all boards. Our membership cards will be shared around the state, wards, and the LGA. We’re not sharing any money here, but to work and gain power,” Ayorinde said.

But Mr Jegede’s media aide, Olumide Ogunkua, said his principal has not let the PDP.

In a chat with the NATION, Ogunkua said, “Jegede is still in PDP, but he’s in support of a coalition that would bring about a change in government.”

Earlier, Mr Peretei described the emergence of the coalition as both timely and necessary.

“This is not just about big names joining a new party. It is about responding to the urgent need for political direction in Ondo and in Nigeria at large,” he said.

Peretei claimed that in some areas, PDP structures have already completely dissolved into the ADC, suggesting the opposition party’s influence is fading in parts of the state.

“There was a fear that Nigeria might slip into a one-party system, but that fear is quickly fading. The ruling party knows the tide is turning.”

He also hinted at disunity within the APC, suggesting the coalition would take full advantage of any internal cracks in the ruling party.

“Today is just the beginning. Expect more political shifts in the coming days,” he added.

Remarking, Shola Agboola, former state Secretary, Social Democratic Party (SDP), said those attending the coalition were doing so in private capacities, not on behalf of their parties.

“So, people who are identified as political technocrats are invited, and that is why people like us are here.

“And we are not just here, it is because of the prevailing situation in the country. Everybody is disjointed because nobody is satisfied at all.

“It will be too dangerous for Nigeria to go one-party state. And it is not possible for a single party to defeat the ruling party, we don’t have to deceive ourselves,” he said.

2027: We won’t hand over ADC structures to Atiku, Obi, Ameachi – Lukman declares

Amid concerns over internal disunity and fear of pre-election failure, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has directed all its leaders with presidential ambitions to suspend the public expression of interest until solid party structures are built ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This directive was disclosed by a key stakeholder of the party, Malam Salihu Moh. Lukman, during a Tuesday appearance on AIT’s Jigsaw programme in Abuja.

Those rumoured to be eyeing the party’s 2027 presidential ticket include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar (PDP’s 2023 candidate), former Labour Party flagbearer Peter Obi, and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Lukman made it clear that the party would not allow any aspirant to hijack its platform, stressing that ADC must be strengthened to operate independently and regulate the conduct of all its members, including elected representatives.

“What we are telling everybody in the coalition is that the structures of the party will not be handed over to aspiring candidates,” he said. “We have to build the party in a way that it can regulate everyone—aspirants and office holders alike.”

He revealed that the unity currently seen in the opposition bloc was largely due to a consensus among leaders to withhold public declarations of ambition while foundational work is being done.

“I think that the suspension of the expression of ambition has to continue. I can see some leaders have already become hyper-reactive,” Lukman noted.

On the broader opposition agenda, Lukman, a former member of the APC’s National Working Committee, also commented on the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), a political association pushing for a credible alternative to the ruling party.

He described the ADA and the choice of ADC as a strategic move by opposition leaders to give Nigerians a real political option in 2027 and guard against the emergence of a one-party state.

“A special committee was set up by the coalition, and it’s based on the determination that we are not going to leave anything unturned to ensure that by 2027, we present an option to Nigerians. We are not going to allow a situation where the country is set up for a one-party state.

“So we spread our tentacles and ensure that we go ahead and mandate the committee to put up the application. All we can say is that whatever happens, Nigerians will have an option.

“Our right as Nigerians, as provided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to participate in elections will be exercised beyond the confines of the APC. We are not going to allow a situation where the country is set up for a one-party state.”

ADC: Atiku, Obi’s coalition against Tinubu’s re-election will fall, says Ondo APC

…we’re ready to play politics of inclusion, Ondo ADC chieftains

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state has described the coalition of the opposition figures, who have adopted the platform of the African Democratic Party (ADC), as “attention seekers and noise makers.”

Speaking on Tuesday on a radio programme, Adaba 88.9 FM, in Akure and monitored by The Nation, the state spokesperson of the APC, Alex Kalejaye, described the coalition as a group of ‘noisemakers and jokers’ who cannot wrestle power from President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Kalejaye revealed that the coalition led by the two main opposition figures, Messrs Atiku and Obi, has nothing to offer Nigerians, stressing that both men, who had earlier been in the helm of power, failed in the past.

He added that President Bola Tinubu had been trying to clear the mess the leaders in the coalition left behind by putting Nigeria on the path of growth and development.

According to Kalejaye, the ambition of the opposition figures to wrestle power from President Tinubu would “soon fall like a pack of cards” with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) getting stronger.

“It’s normal for people to gather and seek attention. You should expect that they make noise for people to notice them. So, it is their right, but the ruling APC is a very formidable party without a crack.

“These are people from different political parties, strange bird fellows who have decided to come together with the sole aim of seeking the presidency seat, not because they have any particular agenda for the country, but because they are used to power.

“They’ve been in power. Some of them have been in power for years, so they can’t survive outside power. They just want to remain in power. I think that is the motivation for them. They will soon fall like a pack of cards.

“So, the ultimate power resides in the people, and when 2027 comes, they will decide. Those who formed the coalition are even the basis of the problem that we are currently facing. They created the problem we are trying to solve now,” the APC spokesperson said.

He, however, noted that the APC is not moved by the antics of the coalition, saying that Nigerians would decide the next election by 2027.

“It’s a party that has cohesion, and that is united by very brilliant leadership. We are not perturbed by the noise of the coalition at all. We will continue to do what we think is in the interest of the people, as we have the mandate for the people,” Kalejaye.

But the ADC said it was not moved by the attack and has urged party leaders at the ward and local levels to increase the number of members in its fold.

Prof. Bode Ayorinde, a chieftain of the ADC in Ondo, who spoke at a stakeholders meeting held in Akure on Tuesday, said the party is ready to play politics of inclusion.

“All the local governments are with us. Our numbers are increasing, and we will continue to increase the tempo at which the coalition started.

“Membership cards would be shared around the state, wards, and local government. We are not sharing any money here. We are here to work,” he said.

Kennedy Peretei, a former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and now chieftain of the ADC, said that Nigerians now have an option.

Peretei said, “Nigerians are looking for something that, you know, can bring sanity to this situation. Nigerians have seen that ADC is capable of doing this.

“ADC has been unveiled as the political party that the coalition is going to use to unseat the APC government in Abuja, and it is going round the states and has finally arrived in Ondo State.”

ADC: Aeroland defends Atiku, blames Bode George for PDP’s decline

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewale, has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should not be held responsible for the party’s struggles and decline.

Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland and a former PDP chairman in Lagos State, made the remark during an interview in Lagos while reacting to a recent accusation by former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George.

George had blamed Abubakar and other former party leaders for the collapse of the PDP, accusing them of jumping ship to lead a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He expressed his concerns during a Friday appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he criticised Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark for aligning with the ADC-led alliance aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Responding, Adewale said it was George, not Abubakar, who contributed to the party’s decline, especially in Lagos, alleging that George had consistently worked against the PDP in every election cycle in the state.

Adewale said, “I read with dismay a recent statement credited to Chief Bode George claiming that Atiku Abubakar joined the opposition coalition after destroying the PDP.

“What could be more shameful and disgraceful than a known serial betrayer of Lagos PDP accusing another person of destroying the PDP.

“Is it not ludicrous that the same person that has serially and openly worked against the PDP and openly instructing his supporters to work for ADP and Labour party, at different election cycles in Lagos, now claims Atiku destroyed the PDP?”

He said that George as founding member of PDP had not delivered a polling units, including his, to PDP since 1999.

He added, “Despite all Bode George has benefited from the party, he has never won his polling booth or produced even a councilor from his ward.

“I challenge anyone who has any evidence of Bode George winning his polling booth or producing a councilor since 1999, I will give the person N5 million.”

Adewale alleged that in 2017, George While on Channels Television, directed PDP members vote for ADP during the LG election.

He added that George in 2019, through a press conference also directed PDP members to vote for the ADP Gubernatorial candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi.

Adewale also alleged that in 2023, George also told PDP members to vote for Labour Party ahead of the 2023 general election.

He noted that Abubakar was not part of the people that could be accused of destroying PDP, rather the former vice president had worked and spent for the party.

He said, “So, Bode George should just keep quiet and stop offending our sensibilities. Atiku did not violate any party rule or guideline.

“Atiku has contributed and worked greatly for PDP unlike Bode George and his ilk that would rather secretly work for the ruling party while in PDP in Lagos in every election cycle.”

  • Of ADA, ADC and all that

Of ADA, ADC and all that

But for Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s mix-up in it all, ADA and ADC — ADC,  like LP, clearly the latest whore in town for high-wire political hire — are a vortex of ironies.

In 2013, a dummy APC — African People’s Congress — leapt from nowhere, as soon as the legacy opposition coalition announced their merger into APC — All Progressives Congress — now the ruling federal party, since 2015.

But the moment INEC held that the dummy APC had breached section 222 (a) of the 1999 Constitution, with insufficient information for registration, it vanished to nowhere.  Wrecking APC’s formal registration had proved a mission impossible.

Like 2013, like 2025: two ADAs — All Democratic Alliance and Advanced Democratic Alliance — were out there.  It’s not clear though, which is fake, which is real.

Still, unlike their fake APC ancestors-in-farce, one of the ADAs — which the Atiku-led coalitionists had pushed to empty into — dropped the enterprise like a steaming hot pot: they sighted a naughty alter ego at the registration party!  But that’s even the more civil interpretation of the burlesque.

A less flattering account claimed the Atiku ADA scrammed the moment their social media tormentors forged for them a cynical logo — Ada (Yoruba for cutlass!) — to replace the ADA originally proposed logo of a corncob!

In 2013, the real APC prevailed, the fake sunk.  In 2025, both ADCs may well sink sans trace.  But we’ll have to wait.

Even then, this stillbirth ADA’s flee into ADC mimics yet another parallel: a 2019  exodus into this same ADC, registered since 2006, but largely dormant.

In his trademark bluster, former President Olusegun Obasanjo had announced, with media drums and cymbals, that he had midwifed a political third force, outside APC and PDP — his sour grapes for being scorned by both, despite his venomous letters.

That idea was a damp squib.  It didn’t fly beyond a dig at mutual opportunism.

Among those at that dig was the SDP (the poor clone of the original that powered MKO to epochal victory in 1993) that wanted to use Obasanjo, as Obasanjo wanted to use it.

But it all collapsed after the imperious Ebora Owu told Oba Olu Falae, then SDP national chair, to surrender SDP’s registration certificate; and Oba Falae told the Ebora to go dive into the nearby Ogun River!

After all the movement without motion, Obasanjo canonized ADC as pick for his 2019 election racket.  Again, at the polls, ADC made absolutely no impact.

But the ADC electoral crash isn’t the story. The parallel of SDP-to-ADC pre-poll transit, in a futile bid for power, is.  Nothing mirrors that now than the impulsive Nasir El-Rufai.

The former Kaduna governor boomed he had stormed into SDP, gobbled it up, and was summoning every political malcontent to come join him there to root out the ruling APC — pure gas!

But as Falae called Obasanjo’s bluff, SDP leaders called El-Rufai’s.  As Obasanjo and his fictive “third force”, El-Rufai and loud coalition fled SDP into ADC!  It’s true: history repeats self as farce — but only after avoidable tragedy!

Indeed, top hierarchs of new hire ADC come with a baggage.

David Mark, a former brigadier-general, comes with two high blights.  He was not only spine of the political military’s conspiracy against June 12 (the harbinger of this democracy),  he threatened  —  by the late Prof. Omo Omoruyi’s account — to shoot President-elect MKO Abiola, should anyone dare to swear him into office.

Yes, MKO never hit Aso Rock. But Mark too failed to halt the re-advent of democracy, even if it came as a poisoned chalice, aka Army Arrangement (AA) — high blight No. 1.

Ay, Mark romped back as elected Benue senator, in the democracy he had tried to kill, when their AA birthed, under Gen. Obasanjo, in 1999. But fate would have the last laugh: he sunk, with the PDP defeat of 2015, as the last Senate president of the PDP era — high blight No. 2.

You then can imagine the propaganda ruin, en route to 2027, for ADA: its gifted cutlass logo, with Mark as protem national chair!  Mark and co dodged that bullet with the ADC landing!  But they all gained boos and jeers of treachery from a prostrate PDP!

For ex-PDPs, Mark and co, apparently, that crippled behemoth is useless without its frenetic slogan — power! — which doubles as its lethal fixation!

With Obasanjo’s rear shadow over ADC and Mark as its fake face, it’s the PDP military wing on the prowl again!   How they’ll fare, after their 2015 collapse, is left to be seen.

With treachery, Atiku Abubakar stands fairly docked in the PDP court: Vee-Pee for eight years (1999-2007), two presidential slots much later (2019 and 2023) that ended in blistering defeats — even after moonlighting with AC (2007) and APC (2015) — yet Atiku’s payback is preening in his ADC hire cap and daring PDP to come join or die!

PDP’s grand sin?  Hesitating to gift Atiku yet another ticket, for a putative hat trick of defeats in 2027!  Atiku, the “northern candidate”, wiped out PDP from much of the South in 2023!  Now he, the born-again pan-Nigerian, wants PDP to vaporize into ADC to brew his umpteenth presidential ticket!

This is beyond treachery. It is crass entitlement, powered by a fox-trotting ingratitude!  Does Atiku ever ponder his legacy, beyond his desperation for presidential power?

Then Peter Obi: only less peripatetic, in political opportunism, than Atiku himself!  From APGA, to PDP, to LP — and now to ADC?  The motor mouth, that talks 19 to the dozen, straddles to find his bearing!  Perhaps some soapy yarns and China stats would help?

But Obi wastes his time haggling over a ticket.  He has the “capacity, competence and compassion” — to mimic Obi-speak — to form the Demagogues Party of Nigeria (DPN) and be a shoo-in as presidential candidate.  His Obidient zombies would be ecstatic!

Then, the pair of El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi — the one PDP minster and APC governor, the other PDP governor and APC minister — proved themselves, as worthy of either party’s technocratic bastion, with plausible tenures.

But their policies are brilliant as their politics is lousy! That explains why both have unravelled, because of self-stabbed political gashes.

O, for a toast of grace, English romantic poet, John Keats would have roared!  Amaechi bawling: “I’m hungry! I’m hungry!” all over, as some uncouth Roman pleb. El-Rufai blowing his tops in rude and crude TV screeds and graceless X posts!

Then, the take-away tri-absurdity: Atiku, Obi and Amaechi claiming they’d do only one presidential term, should they get the ADC ticket!  After selves, they can tell that to the marines!  Over that, trouble would soon brew in paradise!

So, how did Ogbeni Aregebesola, the most ideologically driven politician of his generation, get mixed up with this wild breed?  How?

The air is filled with treachery, ingratitude and allied moral strictures.  But the hard question, after the Awolowo-Akintola crisis of the 20th century: is 21st century Yoruba political conflict resolution still as tame as it was in the 1960s?  Sad to ponder!  Where are the elders?

But a word for the ruling APC.  At least, the new ADC should lure it out of a false complacency of everyone collapsing into its ranks, with PDP in death throes.  Politics!

Now governance.  Until the APC economic reforms morph from fancy numbers to bulging tummies, the ADA — sorry, ADC — pretenders, with their Obi demagogues, will fancy their chances of selling sweet poison — just as Donald Trump did to poor America!
