  • ADP pulls out of coalition against Buhari

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has pulled out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – led coalition against the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The ADP said it was never part of the arrangement in the first place as it was not in a hurry to hobnob with those who mismanaged Nigeria for sixteen years.

Its national chairman,  Yabagi Sani, told reporters the party was the third force Nigerians have been waiting to take over power from the PDP and the APC.

He said: “Let me say here for the avoidance of doubt that we are not part of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

“ADP is the third force that will provide the credible alternative Nigerians passionately yearn for to end hunger, wanton killings and executive lawlessness.

“At our inception in June 2017, we proclaimed to Nigerians that ADP is a child of necessity that will deepen democracy and good governance to establish the credible political platform that will rescue the country from the imminent collapse of the political space.

“We also promised that ADP will introduce a corruption- free leadership selection process that will create a new leadership class with commitment, focus and force of will to rebuild the country after the damage done by PDP and APC.”

He added: “ADP is not prepared to jettison its values and constitutional provisions like the use of direct primaries as against the often used corrupt delegate system by the other parties in the Coalition.

“ADP is also not in a hurry to hobnob with those who mismanaged Nigeria for sixteen years and now regrouping in an un-strategic haste to resume unprecedented loot of the nation’s treasury.

“It is important to know that those who pushed Nigeria to the precipice are the drivers of the Coalition and have nothing new to offer.

“To collaborate with them, is to sleep with strange bedfellows. The ADP is not averse to any political Coalition that can bring about a positive overhaul of the system.

“But this shall be done with true patriots who are not a part of the Nigerian problem.”

  • Plateau Killings: Order arrest of mastermind, ADP, UPP tells Buhari

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the United Peoples Party (UPP) on Tuesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to put action to his promise by ensuring that masterminds of Sunday brutal killings in Jos were brought to justice with immediate effect.

In separate press statements signed by the National Chairmen of the two parties, Engr. Yabagi Sani and Chief Chekwas Okorie respectively, they said that the failure of the President to order the immediate arrest of those responsible will make him to lose face and perceived to have compromised.

Engr. Sani explained that the current perception held by the people is that the government of President Buhari is shielding killer herdsmen and this must be proved otherwise.

‘If the government fails to respond appropriately on this Jos killing , the nation may be driven into a situation where every citizen will fend security for themselves and this could spell doom” he said.

According to him, it is a good thing that Vice President Osibajo visited to commiserate and have first hand knowlege but it would have been more appropriate for the President to personally visit as he did to Bauchi recently.

Sani admonished all Nigerians to condemn the act as barbaric and genocidal doing everything possible to help this government that appear clueless and helpless.

At ADP we commiserate with the People of Jos and admonish the government of Plateau State to be proactive with security in the State and not play politics with the lives of the people.

On his part, Chief Okorie said “We are saddened beyond description by the recent massive destruction of lives and property of the people of Plateau State by bands of Fulani insurgents in a well-coordinated mayhem.

This is one attack too many. This particular attack has attained the proportion of a genocide
which has put Nigeria on the world map for reasons we should all be ashamed of.

“We fervently urge President Muhammadu Buhari to pay urgent attention to the security architecture of Nigeria.

We urge the Nigeria Police, especially the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to deploy the same technology that he has used to crack recent armed robbery and kidnapping criminal activities where the perpetrators escaped and within a short time most of them were rounded up with the use of modern technology of which the general public has applauded the Police.

“We believe that these terrorists communicate among themselves and with their sponsors within and outside Nigeria. It is therefore unacceptable that the Police Force that has been equipped with modern technology has not been able to make any significant breakthrough or made arrest of these blood hounds who have made life so short and brutish in many parts of Nigeria.

“If no urgent steps are taken to check the activities of the insurgents, the political campaigns leading to the much expected 2019 general elections may be seriously jeopardized as no meaningful campaign can take place in volatile and dangerous environment, including the fact that very low and poor voter turnout will be expected in the areas that are unsafe.

“Such eventuality will not only constitute a major setback to the consolidation and growth of our democratic process, it will also be a major minus to the improved number of registered voters so far recorded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who are looking forward to participating in the 2019 general elections in an unfettered and safe environment.”

  • Godfatherism a major impediment to democracy in Nigeria, says ADP candidate

Segun Adewale, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) gubernatorial candidate in the July 14 election, has described godfatherism as a major impediment to the development of democracy in Nigeria.

The Campaign Manager for the ADP candidate, Mr Tokunbo Ajayi, said this while leading party members and loyalists on a house-to-house campaign in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.

Ajayi, who is also the party’s youth leader, represented the candidate on the campaign.

He described godfatherism as a major time bomb which, if not stopped, could derail the nation’s democracy.

The campaign team identified other problems facing democracy in the country as criminal politics, violence and corruption.

Ajayi said that the party would not engage touts, beg or bribe anybody to win the polls.

“Action Democratic Party is not ready to partake in such, in order to produce governor; most of the politicians are alleged to be financiers of cult groups, maintain and sustain them.

“These factors are closely entwined with the rampant political violence in the state in recent time; public revenues are not only stolen and misused, but often paid for the services and weapons behind political violence.

“Because violence and corruption make political competition a very expensive endeavor, many politicians are far more accountable to powerful and violent political godfathers that sponsor them than they are to their constituents.

“Political godfathers in Ekiti are not mere financiers of political campaigns, but are individuals whose power stems not just from wealth, but from their ability to deploy violence and corruption to manipulate national, state and local political systems in support of the politicians they sponsor.

“In return, they demand a substantial degree of control over the government they help bring into power in order to shape government policy and also to exact direct financial returns in the form of government resources stolen by their protégés or lucrative government contracts awarded to them as further opportunities for graft.

‘If ADP produces the next governor in this state, Ekiti will be the first state to enact and aggressively implement the Freedom of Information Bill, which would provide Nigerians and Ekiti people a tool to compel government institutions to make public important information, including basic data concerning expenditures and government policies.”

He said that the party would propose an amendment to the Nigerian Constitution that would rescind immunity from all criminal prosecution currently enjoyed by sitting governors. (NAN)

  • Fayose’s brother dumps PDP for ADP

    •Ekiti people ‘are suffering’

Ekiti state overnor Ayo Fayose’s half brother, Olanipekun Ayo Oluwayose, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Oluwayose joined the ADP in his hometown, Afao-Ekiti, when the party’s governorship aspirant, Otunba Segun Adewale, visited the community in continuationof his mobilisation tours.

He explained that he dumped the PDP because of the alleged failure of his brother, Fayose, who, he said,  made Ekiti poorer.

He described Fayose’s continuity agenda and his endorsement of his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, as “an attempt to prolong the sufferings of Ekiti people and hold them in servitude.”

While admitting sharing blood relations with the governor, Oluwayose said his conscience could not be reconciled with “the directionless situation facing the state.”

Oluwayose said: “How can I ignore the pains that unpaid wages have brought on our people?

“If we want a better society, we must not let our relationship allow us to hold us back from standing by what is right.

“My decision to dump the PDP for the ADP is borne out my patriotism for an Ekiti that works for everyone. Ekiti is in shamble and we must embrace the right ideas that can take us out from the current economic and social doldrums.

“Let me make something clear here. I think today is the first time I’m meeting Adewale, but I have heard  a lot about his capacity and resolve to turn a hopeless situation into an endless opportunity.

“We need someone of his standing to bring to bear his experience and discipline to the resuscitation of our social and economic values.”

Oluwayose pledged his commitment to the success of Adewale’s aspiration in Afao-Ekiti and the state at the July 14 poll, vowing to resist any attempt to manipulate the votes of the people.

Adewale welcomed Oluwayose and his supporters to the ADP, which, he said, has become a movementthat is attracting members on a daily basis.

The aspirant said the party will provide good governance, create jobs and attract investment to Ekiti to make it a model state in the country.

  • ADP, PDP trade words over ‘attack’ on members

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of unleashing terror on its members ahead of the July 14 governorship election.

The ADP claimed that its members are being attacked by “PDP thugs” at some voters’ registration centres.

ADP’s Publicity Secretary Eniola Eponlolaye said the attacks were aimed at intimidating them ahead of the poll.

Eponlolaye, in a statement yesterday, called on security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to bring the perpetrators to book.

He said: “We call on INEC officials and the law enforcement agents to deal decisively with whoever is behind these unpatriotic activities.

“All members and supporters of ADP are implored to remain calm by not taking laws into their hands, as efforts are on to arrest the situation.”

But the PDP denied the allegation, describing its members as law-abiding citizens.

The Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, described the allegation as a “joke taken too far which should not be believed by right-thinking people”.

Adebayo said: “PDP would never harass any opposition member as our members are most peaceful and law abiding.

“Not even the main opposition party, APC, can accuse us of harassing its members, let alone an inconsequential party like ADP.”

ADP adopts Segun Adewale as Ekiti candidate

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has adopted an Ipoti-born businessman, Otunba Segun Adewale (Aeroland), as its governorship candidate for this year’s election in Ekiti State.

The party urged the electorate to liberate themselves from the shackles of poverty by supporting it in the July 14 poll.

ADP’s adoption of Adewale was reportedly affirmed in an address by the State Chairman, Kunle Abegunde, during a visit by the state executive council and members of the party to Adewale’s campaign office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

At the event, which was attended by top officials of the party, Abegunde said ADP settled for the entrepreneur and philanthropist after considering his antecedent.

The chairman said the party was convinced of his capability to show good leadership in the state.

He said the lapses of the Ayodele Fayose administration were many, adding that the people must reject the government’s attempt to elongate the people’s suffering through its ‘Continuity Agenda’.

Abegunle said: “The current leadership of the PDP in Ekiti cannot appreciate the qualities in this illustrious son due to their dictatorial tendencies.”

ADP advises Obaseki to ensure credible council poll

Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Edo State has advised Governor Godwin Obaseki and Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) to conduct a free and fair election tomorrow.

It said the governor should not be swayed by the actions of those it termed All Progressives Congress (APC) cabal to truncate the poll.

The Chairman, Media and Strategy, Mr. Tony Erha, who addressed reporters at a news briefing, said law enforcement agents should perform their duties during the election without bias.

He said ADP was to participating in the poll because of the governor’s tranparency.

Erha alleged that ADP had uncovered a plot by a chieftain of APC to declare falsified results.

The Managing Director of the ADP, Mr Oyisi Okatahi, said at the inauguration in Lokoja that the aim was to enable the farmers to sell their produce at good prices without the interference of the middle men.

Okatahi said the platform named: “Kogi Online Agricultural Market Place,” would also help the farmers to preserve their goods as the buyers could off-take the produce even before the harvest.

He said that the agricultural market place could be accessed on “kogiadp.org,” pointing out that the platform was open to other farmers in the country.

Okatahi said that the Gov. Yahaya Bello had given the ADP a marching order to implement a project that would benefit the people every month.

According to him, Bello’s administration is very committed to making Kogi the foremost agricultural state in Nigeria.

“We started in November 2017 with a programme, “Kogi Agricultural Summit” and in December followed with “Rice Processing at ADP Office.”

“In January 2018 we had “Cassava City” and now in February we are having “Online Agricultural Market Place,” Okatahi said.

The managing director advised youths in the state to key into the agricultural revolutionary programmes of the State and Federal Governments.

He said the programmes were sure ways of gaining employment rather than waiting for white collar jobs.

  • 2019: Our party will rescue Nigeria from possible collapse’

2019: Our party will rescue Nigeria from possible collapse’

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has reacted to the 2019 elections Time Table released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party in a statement issued by the spokesman for Lagos, Prince Adelaja Adeoye on Wednesday, said that the ADP is ready to rescue Nigeria from a possible total collapse under the current mis-governance of the ruling APC.
He said the reality for Nigerians is that governance is at its lowest ebb and that citizens are crying.
Adelaja said that the ADP is working with all stakeholders across the country in order to present candidates who possess the 3Cs which he described as “Competence, Character and Capacity.”
The party noted that for Nigeria to move forward, men and women of good character, competence and capacity must be put forward to lead. He said Nigeria needs a bridge builder as a President, someone who can restore peace, unity and love amongst the citizens and return the once revered nation to the path of economic boom.
He stressed further that the era of propaganda for votes is gone and that Nigerians will go to the polls based on issues that bother on their needs.
According to him, these needs have not been met by Buhari’s administration. ADP however charges Nigerians to stay awake, alleging that the ruling APC is aware that its popularity has waned and will want to use force and rigging to remain in power.
The party said for them, Lagos is winnable and will be won because the state does not need an “Owambe” Governor, one tied to the apron of a god father but a serious minded governor who will take governance beyond environmental sanitation. The party said that most Lagosians have not enjoyed the dividends of democracy since 1999 and that the culture of impunity, imposition and godfatherism has held sway in the state.
ADP said a change of guard will make Lagosians see that development is far beyond what they are currently seeing under the current rent seekers who claim to be working.
ADP charges Nigerians to be ready to do the needful at the polls as electioneering activities start, based on the recently released INEC time table; urging them not to make themselves willing tools for violence, election malpractices or used to cause voter apathy.
