  • Pastor’s wife loses marriage for adultery

The 21-year-old marriage of a pastor’s wife, Mrs Uzoamaka Ibeneme,  ended yesterday after an Igando Customary Court in Lagos, dissolved the union on grounds of alleged adultery.

Mr. Akin Akinniyi, the court president, who delivered the judgment, said the petitioner, Pastor Joshua Ibeneme was adamant despite the mediation by the court and family intervention.

“Since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court is, therefore, left with no option but to grant him his wish and pronounce the union dissolved,” Akinniyi said.

“The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Pastor Joshua Ibeneme and Mrs Uzoamaka Ibeneme dissolved today.

“Both of you will henceforth cease to be husband and wife, each of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested.

“The court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours.

“Any squabble between both you from now on shall be treated as criminal and any violation of this judgment will be regarded as contempt of court and will attract imprisonment without option of fine,” Akinniyi ruled.

The petitioner, Joshua Ibeneme (53), had approached the court to end the marriage to his wife, Uzoamaka, who he said was messing around with his church members.

His words: “My wife had sexual affairs with two of my church members, a deacon and a bishop. Both of them were telling my other members that they slept with my wife because she enticed them.

“Whenever I returned from a trip, my last born always told me that men came to pick and drop my wife. Even God told me to divorce her or else she would destroy my ministry,” he claimed.

The petitioner said that his wife denied him sex for five years.

“My wife starved me of sex for more than five years. Whenever I wanted to sleep with her, she would give one excuse or the other and, in fact, she has moved out of my room to a separate room.

“But she gives it to my members freely,” the pastor said.

The pastor said that his wife was always mocking and embarrassing him in public places, telling people about his sexual performance.

He said that Uzoamaka always accused him of having affairs with any female member, who came to the house for counselling.

“She accused them of dating me and also went to their houses to fight them. Her behaviour has chased many members away from my church,” he said.

He begged the court to divorce the loveless union, claiming he was no longer in love with his wife.

However, the respondent, Uzoamaka, denied having sex with their church members but accused her husband of infidelity.

“It is women that cause our frequent fighting, they are the problem in our home and my husband’s lust for them is very high.

“I never slept with the two men, who claimed that they slept with me; they just wanted to tarnish my image. My husband is dating the wife of the deacon.”

The mother of three, however, begged the court not to grant her husband’s wish for dissolution of the marriage, as she was still in love with him.

Sex-starved pastor abandons family, impregnates another woman

A 46-year-old pastor, Joshua Aranse, on Thursday told an Alagbado Customary Court in Lagos that he impregnated another woman and abandoned his matrimonial home for four years because of sex starvation.

“I am a pastor and I counsel people. It is true that I abandoned her. For over four years, she did not allow me have sexual intercourse with her.

“This is why I went out of my way to impregnate another woman,” he told the court while reacting to a request by his 42-year-old wife, Funmilayo, who is seeking the dissolution of their 16-year-old marriage over alleged adultery.

The trader, who resides at No. 18, Adebayo Oloye St.,  Baba Ijebu Bus Stop, Meiran, a Lagos suburb, also alleged that her husband abandoned his matrimonial home between 2010 and 2014.

Aranse, however, told the President of the court, Prince A. M. Kosoko, that he abandoned his wife for over four years because his wife denied him sex.

“When I sold the car, I gave her a sum of N40,000 but she used the money to buy second hand shoes to sell.

“I did not commit adultery except the woman I impregnated,” Aranse said, urging the court to dissolve the marriage, adding “I don’t love her anymore.”

Earlier, the wife had told the court that her husband, a pastor, had in 2010, impregnated another woman.

Funmilayo said: “In 2014, he finally abandoned our matrimonial home.”

“My husband has not set his eyes on his three children since June 30, 2014. He refused to pay their school fees. They no longer go to school because I do not have money to send them to school.

“He sold our car and gave the money to the woman he impregnated. He has refused to take care of the children and I.

“Please separate us because I no longer love him.”

In his ruling, the court’s president ordered the respondent to pay N15,000 for the upkeep of the three children until the case was disposed of.

He directed the man to bring the feeding allowance to the court and adjourned the continuation of trial until March 13.

“ Allah also stated in the Holy Qur’an that do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse and whoever should do that will be penalised,” the Cleric warned.

He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to create policy that would stop indecent dressing in public places across the country.

The cleric said that government at all levels have a critical role to play in establishing descent moral standards in individuals within the community.

Al-Yoawi decried increasing incidences of indecent dressing by both male and female, young and old people in the society, describing it as “an ugly situation.“

“ You will never find an adulterer or fornicator who is pious, fulfills his promises, truthful in his speech, maintains friendship or has protective jealous over his wife,“ he said.

Al-Yolawi, therefore, admonished Muslims to strengthen their devotion through praising Allah, reading the holy Qur’an and offering prayers.

He said that frequent prayers would strengthen believers against immorality, wrongdoing, and make Muslims to always remember Allah in whatever they do.

  • Why I’m being accused of Adultery -Pastor of acclaimed largest church in Eastern Europe Adelaja

Why I’m being accused of Adultery -Pastor of acclaimed largest church in Eastern Europe Adelaja

30 years after leaving to found Embassy of God Church, Kiev, Ukraine, said to be the largest church in Easthern Europe.  Nigerian-born Pastor Sunday Adelaja is planning to return to his country of birth. He spoke with SUNDAY OGUNTOLA on the planned relocation as well as the recent allegation of adultery levelled lagainst him. Excerpts:

Russian Union of Christians Evangelical Faith alleged that you confessed to having adulterous affairs with at least 20 women in your church. How true is this?

I never once was invited to a meeting with any Russian Union of churches. Neither did I ever speak to them either by telephone or any other way. So there is no way I could have confessed to people I never spoke to or met.

Your spiritual father, Apostle Toff Ulissis, also attested to this allegation, stating that you need “psychiatric help”. What is your reaction to this?

Apostle Tuff is not my spiritual father but I had a relationship with him. But I actually was saved under W.F Kumuyi. Besides, even this Apostle Tuff has denied ever making any such statements to the press or any media house.

You hinted that the allegation was an old fabrication cooked by disgruntled leaders in your church over power tussle. Let us in into what really transpired?

We have over 40 churches in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev and about 400 other churches in the country, plus over a 1,000 churches worldwide. When I got the revelation about moving to Africa, I wanted to totally go and leave a local leadership of the entire ministry while I go back to Africa to start all afresh.

My thought was that I’ll be so busy with the enormous task of Nigerian transformation that I won’t have the time to be managing the church in Ukraine. That was when all hell broke loose. As usual, some wanted the buildings; others wanted the budget, while some wanted the crowd. The rest is history…

The allegation has raised global concern and uproar. What will you tell those who still believe in you and look up to you?

As ministers, we don’t defend ourselves. We all have God who called us and who is our only defence; so at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that God is pleased and happy with you. If He is on your side, you are in the majority.

If on the other hand, people are on your side, but God isn’t, then you are in trouble. We are not movie or sports stars that need a fan base. We, on the other hand, only have one audience; we are actors performing to only please the Master. When the Master is pleased, He will even reconcile your enemies with you.

Is this allegation not taking a toll on your wife and children?

Not at all; that is the easy part. They know me. Secondly, they know the truth. There is a saying that you should never explain yourself because those who know you don’t need it, they know and love you anyway.

Those who don’t know nor love you, you’ll never be able to convince at any rate. So the conclusion is to simply walk before God and let your conscience be clean before Him.

What happens to the church in Ukraine if you leave?

That is the more reason why I’m actually happy that all the rebellion happened. Thanks to it, I was able to clean house. So we are establishing a new structure in the church now, top of which is that I must remain the senior pastor of the church even when I’m in Africa. That is a major point of stability moving forward.

How do you conceive the idea of returning home?

In 2015, I had a two- week solitude with God at which God specifically gave me instructions to go back to Africa, including what He wants me to do there. There have since been several confirmations of the revelation.

What part of Africa are you coming to?

The destination is Nigeria, to be specific. I have a 25- point instruction on what I’m coming to do. It’s not about religious or church ministry. But it’s more on the transformation of Nigeria in all spheres of life.

    How soon will this materialise?

I’ll simply follow the Lord’s direction and guidance. Besides, I have a 30-year experience in Europe and ministry all over the world that will go a long way to help me fulfill the task ahead in Nigeria.

There are insinuations that the Nigerian media latched on to the story because some powerful forces in the Christian community are desperate to dent your image ahead of your relocation. Are you aware of this and what will you say to that?

It could be especially since I’m a straightforward person, a frank person who shares his opinions openly anywhere, anytime. In short, I’m a straight taker. No doubt, many people might not like my style. Others might have been outright incensed and offended by me or some of my past publications.

I guess they have the right to react anyway they see right in their eyes. We are all living in a free society, so I don’t mind if any of them is a part to this. On the other hand, I too have the right to freely express my opinion on the issues going on in my fatherland.

Can you recall your past struggles with sexual addictions and how you overcame?

Oh yes, like every man I, too had hard my own share of sexual struggles,  which I publicly attest to in my publications. I wrote a book on the subject, Living Sexually Free and recently, I posted an article on ‘20 ways to overcome masturbation’ on my blog, www.sundayadelajablog.com, so anyone interested in more details of my journey on this matter could consult those sources.

In one of your popular series, ‘Ask Pastor Sunday’, you hinted that a Christian cannot commit adultery. Can you clarify this?

I never said such a thing. Of course, both Christians and non-Christians can commit adultery or fornication. What I was saying in that particular programme mentioned is that Christians shouldn’t be sin-conscious; they need to be more conscious about their relationship with God rather than be thinking only about one sin or the other from morning till evening.

The reason I spoke in particular about fornication and adultery was because I was speaking to young students who were concerned about such topic. The whole gist is, be more particular about your personal relationship with God, than you are particular about sin, whatever it’s called.

Why are you always reeling from one allegation to the other?

There is no person who is in the limelight that is not being accused of one thing or the other on a regular basis. If you want to be nothing, do nothing. Maybe then people won’t accuse you of anything.

Look at any popular person in Nigeria or the world, from Presidents Barrack Obama to Muhammadu Buhari, all of them are being accused regularly of one thing or the other. Controversy is the fuel of popularity. So better get used to it.

Even Jesus could not escape this law of nature. If He couldn’t avoid it, how can I avoid it? Better to start enjoying it!!!

  • Adultery crashes Lagos housewife’s marriage

A textile dealer, 36-year-old Tawakalitu, has lost her three-year-old marriage to her husband, Mr Lateef Lawal, a property developer, to adultery.

An Igando Customary Court severed the relationship following allegations of infidelity brought against the wife by her husband.

The court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, noted that the couple was tired of the marriage, saying “all efforts to reconcile both parties had failed.’’

“Since both parties consented to the dissolution of the marriage, this court has no choice than to dissolve it.

“This court hereby pronounce the marriage between Lateef Lawal and Tawakalitu Lawal dissolved today; you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.

“Both are free to go their separate ways without any hindrance or molestation,” Omilola ruled.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lawal, 50, had filed a suit seeking the dissolution of the three-year-old marriage on grounds of infidelity, defamation of character and threat to life.

The petitioner said that Tawakalitu, who had a daughter for him, was adulterous.

“I caught my wife making love with another man at a corner when we went for a Christmas party.

“Anyway, I do not blame her for the infidelity because I met her at a club,” the former husband said.

He said his wife accused him of having sex with his daughter and invited the presenter of a Lagos Television programme — “Labe Orun” to expose it.

“They came to my house to interview me to know if I actually slept with my daughter or involved in ritual activities.

“My wife is fetish … I discovered a snail, a cow horn and other charms in her wardrobe.

“She goes out at will and I can count the number of days she stayed at home throughout our three-year marriage.’’

He told the court that he disowned the only child of the marriage because he did not want anything that would bring him and Tawakalitu together again.

Tawakalitu, 36, however, denied the allegations:“I am not fetish, it is my husband that is fetish.

“My husband is diabolical, I once saw a horn, a calabash, black soap and other materials in his wardrobe.”(NAN)

Court dissolves 15 years marriage over adultery

An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Wednesday dissolved a 15-year-old marriage between Temilade Bukola and her husband, Adeniyi, for adultery and lack of care for their only child.

The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, observed that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved it.

‎Akomolede awarded the custody of the child to the petitioner, and said the husband should be responsible for his education at all level.

She ordered the husband to pay a monthly upkeep allowance of N6, 000 for the child‎.

The court, however, granted access to the husband to see his child without any molestation.

Bukola, 34, a resident of No 13, Olabedo Quarters, Ilawe-Ekiti, said she left her matrimonial home because her husband had started the process of marrying another woman.

She said her husband once beat her and she fainted, adding that the matter was reported to the police but their pastor intervened and it was resolved.

The mother of one said her husband was a womaniser and that she had met him with another woman in one occasion.

The petitioner said they used to pay the child’s school fees together but her husband stopped doing that three years ago.

She, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage and award her the custody of her child, Blessing, 15.

But the respondent, Adeniyi, 40, a resident of Abekoko Street, Obasanjo Lane, Ikere-Ekiti, accused the wife of attempting to abort his pregnancy.

Adeniyi also accused the wife of dating another man, adding that that was the source of their fight.

He said that she left her matrimonial home to stay with her lover, and refused his plea to resolve the matter.

He, therefore, prayed the court to grant him the custody of the child since both of them had remarried.

Court orders online publisher’s arrest over ‘adultery’ report

The Federal High Court in Lagos Thursday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of an online publisher, Seun Oloketuyi.

He was arraigned by the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU) for allegedly publishing a false report that Fidelity Bank Managing Director, Nnamdi Okonkwo, impregnated the bank’s head of marketing.

He was granted bail for N3million with two sureties, but failed to turn up Thursday for his trial.

Oloketuyi’s lawyer, Uchenna Akingbade, said the accused person was absent because he was sick, but Justice Jude Dagat said there was no medical report to justify the accused person’s absence.

Revoking the bail granted Oloketuyi, he said: “There is no medical report before the court to show that the accused is sick, and his sureties are not present. In the circumstance, the bail is hereby revoked, and a bench warrant is issued against the accused person,” the judge said.

Oloketuyi’s lead counsel, Dr Muiz Banire (SAN), had faulted the criminal charge, saying the complainant should have sued for libel since defamation is a civil matter.

Banire said the SFU also had no business arraigning the blogger because he was not involved in any act of fraud.

The police said the accused published the report on his website www.naijahottestgist.com.

Oloketuyi, organiser of the Best of Nollywood Awards (BON), was arraigned on a two-count charge.

Count one reads in part: “That you, Seun Oloketuyi ‘m’ on or about June 2015 did knowingly or intentionally send a message and other matters by means of computer systems or network on one Nnamdi Okonkwo, the Managing Director/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc which you know to be false, for the purpose of causing him annoyance, insult and ill-will on www.naijahottestgist.com.”

In count two, Oloketuyi was accused of publishing “defamatory matters” against Okonkwo “with malice” while knowing that the information was false.

Prosecution counsel, Olakanmi Omisope, said the alleged offence contravenes Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition) Act, 2015 and Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38. Oloketuyi pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The story claimed that Okonkwo impregnated the bank’s “top marketer” known as Justina, which resulted in her husband, Ben, leaving their matrimonial home.

Oloketuyi had apologised and retracted the story via www.bestofnollywood.tv.
