    Cleric advises church leaders

The General Overseer of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM) International, Dr Obiorah Ezekiel, has urged church leaders to seek virtues of divine nature and look beyond their born-again experience. This, according to him, will make them function more effectively in their calling and win more souls for God.

Ezekiel spoke during the recent Back to Bible Conference of the church entitled: Glorious Divine Nature, at its Ajao Estate, International headquarters in Lagos

Back to Bible Conference is a yearly programme aimed at imparting ministers with the glorious divine nature. Through it, God removes all impediments to His work in lives and re-ignites the fire of Pentecost in Christians.

He regretted that the church is deteriorating in divine nature and love, the purpose for which Christ came, suffered and died. He said it is a crime for churches to remain in the old nature, adding: “The time has come for the church to grow and glow in grace for revelations to manifest.”

The cleric reminded church leaders that many Christians are hungry and thirsty for undiluted words of God.

This, he said, they must give without minding the consequences of hatred, malice, unguarded comments and even death.

He described Christians as the moon that must shine always, adding that miracles are good when Jesus is involved but some Christians are just miracle seekers.

“When leaders speak or preach, devil is supposed to bow or tremble , but alas! the reverse is the case today, all because of the pursuit of materialism.

He advised the Pastors to crave for the divine virtues the multi-coloured garment of Joseph garment represents. They are the gifts of the spirit- peace Joy, love, humility and meekness which cannot be bought with materialism.

  • Minister advises Christians at Easter

The Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro has urged Christians to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and forgiveness.

He also called on Christians to pray for the nation in view of the current security challenges bedevilling the nation.

Moro, in his Easter message, through his Special Assistant on Media, George Udoh, yesterday, said the occasion should be used yearly to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice Jesus Christ made through his crucifixion on the Cross for the remission of our sins.

“Just as Jesus made that sacrifice, Nigerians as a people should also think of what sacrifice they can make to ensure the growth and development of the nation,” Moro said.

He explained that both the leaders and followers have roles to play to take the country to greater heights, adding that everybody should strive to make sacrifice where necessary.

Moro reminded Christians of the importance of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence, adding that everyone has a duty to ensure peace.

He said President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is committed to his administration’s transformation agenda.

  • Expert advises Shell on security

A security expert in Niger Delta, Hon Edwin Ibanichuka, has called on the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) not to shut down its operation in Nigeria because of the persistent oil theft in the region.

Ibanichuka, the Managing Director of Global Services and Security Limited, who gave the advice in Port Harcourt, while addressing members of the Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM), said: “Shell should give me just six months; I will end oil theft in Niger Delta region. As a true son of Niger Delta, the issue of vandalism and oil theft will be a thing of the past if I am given the opportunity.

“All the oil companies operating in the region, especially Shell, are threatening to shut down, but that is not the best option as there are remedies. The oil theft business is booming today because politicians, company workers and security operatives have joined the illegal business.”

He added: “I have spent years researching into this particular issue for the peace of the region. I have submitted my report to Shell. All I am awaiting is for them to say, ‘we have received your report and we will partner with you for the progress of the region.’”

Karibo Douglas, President, NDYM, said: “Some of us have benefited from your youth empowerment. It is on this note that we here today. We assure you of our total support in the execution of your idea in the region.”

  • Council chief advises residents

    Council chief advises residents

Chairman, Ikeja Local Government Area, Hon Wale Odunlami has enjoined the residents to continue to support and cooperate with the council by paying their levies, dues and rates which, he said, will help in moving the council forward. He stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the council’s secretariat.

He said: “It is only by paying our taxes, rates and dues that the council would have funds to provide necessary basic amenities.”

He implored the residents to endeavour to maintain the amenities provided for them in order to prevent government from spending money unnecessarily on repairs of the facilities.

The council boss also used the opportunity to appeal to the residents to maintain peace and understanding, as no government would be able to achieve any meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos and rancour.

He opined that most fire incidents are as a result of human error and carelessness. He, therefore, urged the residents to be more safety conscious and proactive in order to save the society from unnecessary outbreak of fire that could wreak havoc on lives and property.

He also advised that fire extinguishers should be provided in homes, offices and vehicles for safety purposes.

Continuing he said: “More efforts will be made towards reducing the wide gap between the rich and the poor.”

The council distributed food stuff such as garri to over 1,000 residents from the six wards of the local government. This is one of the ways the council tackles poverty.

“It is only gestures like this that would truly narrow down the gap between the rich and the poor,” he said.

Priorities were given to widows, the aged, women, youths and other less-privileged individuals.

On waste disposal, the council boss urged the residents to desist from dumping wastes in drains to allow free flow of water to prevent any incidence of flooding and contamination in the area.

He stressed that the council’s sanitation department is adequately prepared to monitor and protect the environment and to equally prosecute residents who flouted environmental laws.

  • Ezekwesili advises youths

An ex-Vice-President of the World Bank, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has said democracy is not complete, until citizens begin to participate in political activities.

She said such participation would create a platform for Nigerians to demand accountability and good governance from their leaders, especially public office holders.

Mrs Ezekwesili, who is also a former Education Minister, spoke in Port Harcourt at the Open City Ideas and Innovation Conference.

She said it was not enough for youths to depend on their talents without showing interest in governance.

Mrs Ezekwesili said: “The citizens must understand that only the country’s success can guarantee their success.

“You can be the best brand manager or even productively engage your talents but you will be limited by a failing Nigeria.”

Governor Rotimi Amaechi reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming the state.

Amaechi, who was represented by Commissioner for Information and Communications Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, said his administration places emphasis on human capital development.

The Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Energy Resources, Tonye Cole, said the youths possessed the power to determine who would lead the country.

  • Be submissive, Fayemi advises Muslims

    Be submissive, Fayemi advises Muslims

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has congratulated Muslims for witnessing this year’s Eid –el- Kabir festival.

Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, urged Muslims to imbibe the lessons of sacrifice and total submission to the will of Allah.

The governor urged Muslims to use the period to pray for peace, stability and prosperity in Ekiti State.

Describing Sallah as a period for sober reflection, Fayemi advised Muslims in Ekiti to celebrate the festival with moderation.

He said Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to obey Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, marked a dramatic turning point in the worship of his Creator, who provided a ram for the sacrifice.

The governor noted that Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice gave him a double gain as God spared Ishmael’s life and provided a ram to be slaughtered instead of the son.

Fayemi said: “This has lent credence to one of my oft-repeated maxim which says that there can be no gain without pain.

“Taking a step to sacrifice one’s only son in obedience to the wish of Allah could be very painful and traumatic but the Prophet gained a lot by choosing to obey Allah and damn the consequences.

“We should always be ready to make sacrifices which may be unpalatable at present but very gainful and sweet in the nearest future.

“I urge Muslims in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general to draw lessons from the humility, piety, devotion and sacrifice exhibited by both Prophet Ibrahim and Ishmael.”

  • Adhere to the rule of law, advises Fashola

LAGOS State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has enjoined Nigerians to conform to the tenets of the rule of law.

He said without law and order, no society would prosper.

In his Sallah Message, the governor said the act of obedience demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim when he was commanded by the Almighty Allah to sacrifice his only son, Ismael, is a compelling factor for all Muslims to learn from in the maintenance of law and order in our society.

“Our nation is greatly challenged by the inconsistencies in our attitude to the rule of law; yet the great religions of the world preach obedience as the only condition for our close relationship with the Almighty Allah”.

“The significance of the act cannot be more relevant at any other time in our history than today when we need all hands on deck to build an enduring democracy; an egalitarian society where every citizen will have the opportunity to attain his or her potentials in life”, the governor said.

He implored all Nigerians, particularly the Muslims, to use the period of the celebration to rededicate themselves to the maintenance of law and order in the society adding: “Without the rule of law, no society can progress and without law and order, life will be both intolerable and unbearable”.

  • Agency advises motorists on parking lots

Agency advises motorists on parking lots

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has urged motorists to use designated parking points at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and the General Aviation Terminal, Lagos.

A statement by the General Manager, Corporate Communications Yakubu Dati said, there are laid out signages provided to guide motorists on the routes around the terminals.

The airport environment, Dati said, is a special place and the need to keep international standards is uppermost, hence the need to create a safe and sane environment for steady flow of traffic.

He said towing of vehicles at the airport is to help FAAN focus on its main business of running airports and terminals, and to serve as deterrent to errant motorists that will not abide by the rules.

He said: “The action is to compel motorists to conduct themselves in orderly fashion and to transform the environment into a world class airport as envisioned by the management. We want to discourage the arbitrary parking of vehicles and often cases of abandoning of vehicles for days on end, which results in crisis in traffic management.

It is against standard practice worldwide for vehicles to park at designated no-parking zones, park haphazardly or be left unattended at airport environments. Such vehicles not only constitute a nuisance to the scenic environment being envisaged, but are a threat to the security and wellbeing of the airport and the general public.”

  • Senator Tinubu advises electorate on 2015

Senator Tinubu advises electorate on 2015

Senator Oluremi Tinubu has advised the electorate to vote in only progressive-minded leaders in 2015.

Speaking at the fourth Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting held yesterday at Surulere, Lagos, the senator said it had become imperative to vote the progressives into government because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacks focus.

She said: “Look at this government; does it have a functional refinery? The refineries we have are not working at full capacity, most of them are run down and we can even see that all the power stations have been privatised and some entities that can not deliver have been concessioned.

“Look at oil producing nations around the world. I don’t see, Arab nations importing fuel. What I have noticed is that a lot of people are making money from this oil importation.

“The point is that the government we have today is just not working. With what the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)-led states are doing, they are capable of taking the mantle of leadership in the country.

“And we pray that by the grace of God when we win in Ondo State and then they stand as a region, then our region will send the signal to the rest of Nigeria. We don’t have a government at all; we can even see from the on-going power privatisation, that the sector is being given to some people that can’t even do anything.

“Look at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other abandoned projects. This is the time our votes will determine whether we will keep suffering or we are going to be liberated. And by the special grace of God by 2015 things will change for this country.”

Senator Tinubu said the country was grappling with worsening crime rate, insecurity, unemployment and other indices of underdevelopment.

On her achievements, she said: “My membership of the Senate Education Committee has facilitated the release of N160 million from the Technical Education Trust Fund for the development of our technical college at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education.”

She described the ocean surge in Lagos as a global problem. “The Atlantic City has nothing to do with the ocean surge because before they started the construction of the Atlantic City, the ocean had often surged to parts of Victoria Island. We should co-operate with the government in order to achieve a Lagos of our dream.”

Present at the event were Lagos monarch Oba Rilwan Akiolu, wife of Lagos State Governor Abimbola Fashola, Commissioner for Home Affairs Oyinlomo Danmole, Senator Muniru Muse, Alhaja Abba Folawiyo, Alhaji Mutiu Are, council chairmen and other party chieftains.
