Rangers get deadline to pay for Agbim

WARRI WOLVES have disclosed Enugu Rangers have two weeks to pay up an agreed of N8m transfer fee for Chigozie Agbim.

Last week, Rangers confirmed they have cleared Nigeria international goalkeeper Agbim from Wolves and so the player manned the goal for them in Sunday’s CAF Champions League third round clash at home.

Vice chairman of Warri Wolves, Alex Amudo, informed MTNFootball.com: “We agreed that Rangers should pay N8m for Chigozie Agbim after our initial demand of fifteen million naira. We also have it documented that Rangers would pay the said amount within two weeks.”

Rangers officials are also bullish they will soon resolve the transfer logjam involving AFCON hero Sunday Mba, who is also expected to shift base from Warri Wolves. However, they will be expected to break the bank for 24-year-old Mba as Wolves are now demanding a staggering N100m for the forward.

“Before the Nations Cup we had told Rangers to bring about N15m for his services, but right now I am not sure Mba would go for anything less than N100m,” stated a top official of the club.

Overseas-bound Sunday Mba has not featured in the league since winning the Nations Cup with the Super Eagles in February.

NFF: Mba, Agbim are Warri Wolves’ players

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reiterated that Super Eagles’ attacking midfielder, Sunday Mba, belongs to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Warri Wolves FC. The Federation also disclosed that Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim is also a player of the Warri outfit.

NFF President, Aminu Maigari declared on Friday that the Federation is disappointed by the failure of both Wolves and Enugu Rangers to resolve the matter several weeks after the NFF gave them the latitude to put the player’s career back on track.

“The NFF made it clear in a press statement before the end of last year that its ad-hoc committee on the matter had decided that the player has his contractual obligations to Warri Wolves, and told both clubs to decide a transfer fee for the player. Unfortunately, both clubs have not been able to do so.

“This is also to declare that goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim is, legitimately, a Warri Wolves’ player. Any club in quest of the services of these two players should go and negotiate with Warri Wolves. The NFF is very much interested in the career progression of our players and will continue to ensure that nothing jeopardises this progression.”

Enugu Rangers chairman Festus Onuh has told MTNFootball.com they will pay the transfer fees for AFCON stars Sunday Mba and Chigozie Agbim.

Warri Wolves are demanding a record-shattering 12 million Naira (about $75,000) for Mba after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ruled that the AFCON hero belongs to them.

“We have secured the clearance of three more players to feature in this Sunday’s game and we are ready to pay Warri Wolves their asking price for the services of Sunday Mba and Chigozie Agbim to enhance our chances over the two legs (in the CAF Champions League),” Onuh informed MTNFootball.com.

Both players have been training with ‘The Flying Antelopes’ in Enugu. Rangers host Angola’s Recreativo de Libolo this weekend in the CAF Champions League second round and Onuh said his team will go past this hurdle.

“The Angolans won’t stand in our way towards qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League,” he said.

“We are properly positioned to rub shoulders with the top sides in the continent and our target remains getting to the final of the competition. It is a pity that our brothers Kano Pillars are out and that will motivate us the more to do a good representation for the country.”

Onuh also promised that the club will be crowned Nigeria champions this season after they missed the title narrowly last term.

In an exclusive chat with MTNFootball.com after he watched Rangers bash visiting Dolphins 3-0 in a Nigeria league Week 7 fixture in Enugu, the business mogul said that despite the fact that Rangers are second behind defending champions Kano Pillars, he was hopeful of ending the season on a high.

“Yes, we may be second now on the log, but I promise that at the end of the season, we shall be celebrating with the league shield,” Onuh said.

“We lost it narrowly last season, but this is going to be our year. Never mind the fact that we are currently in second position. We are destined for the top this season and I am not joking about this. We have all it takes to clinch what rightly belongs to us at the end of this season by God’s special grace.”

Agbim, Akpeyi to stop Barca stars

WITH NONE of the foreign based goalkeepers not expected to hit camp early enough for the Catalonia friendly on January 2nd, NPL stars, Chigozie Agbim and Daniel Akpeyi have the tough task of stopping Barcelona’s Carlos Puyol and the gang in the friendly.

It is expected that at least one of the two goalkeepers will make the final cut to South Africa with the Israeli duo of Vincent Enyema and Austin Ejide appearing home and dry.

Expectedly, a good performance by any of the duo chosen to be between the sticks in Wednesday’s friendly could help boost their chances in making a debut appearance at the Nations Cup.

AFTER agreeing in principle with Enugu Rangers, Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim, looks set to complete an N8m move to the Coal City.

Agbim, who is expected to join the camp of the Nigerian squad this weekend for the November 14 friendly against Venezuela, is expected to sign for the Flying Antelopes this month barring any hitch.

The player will seal a one-year deal when the Rangers’ CEO, Paul Chibuzor Ozor, returns from his trip overseas for medical check-up.

A club official told supersport.com: “He is close to signing for us. The (transfer) fee involved is around N8 million but that isn’t concluded or certain yet as talks will be finalised and then a contract signed. He will sign this month hopefully when the CEO of the club returns to the country, Chigozie’s contract will finally be sorted out.”

Agbim has been training with Rangers, as they prepare for the 2012/2013 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) and the 2013 CAF Champions League.

He was the first-choice goalkeeper of Warri Wolves last term before his contract ran out.

    Rangers finally land Agbim

SUPER EAGLES’ goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim, has agreed in principle to pen a one-year contract with Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, Enugu Rangers.

Supersport.com can also report that Agbim could also have an option of renewal in his deal with the Flying Antelopes.

Agbim is however not the only top player in the camp of Enugu Rangers.

His Warri Wolves’ teammate, Sunday Mba is also in line for a contract as well as Heartland defender, Uche Oguchi.

“There are a whole lot of players in the Rangers’ camp as I speak to you. Some of them are undergoing an open screening exercise. But there are a few of them who are here based on invitation by officials and the coach. They have been training with the team and have to some extent agreed to join Rangers.

“There’s Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim from Warri Wolves. There’s also Sunday Mba from Warri Wolves and Uche Oguchi of Heartland. They have agreed to join the club but nothing is official from Rangers yet,” said a Rangers’ source to supersport.com on Saturday.

Already, Rangers have reportedly signed youngster Anthony Okemmiri for a fee of N3.5 million after he was released by Kwara United.

Former Enyimba forward, Ezenwa Otorogu is still in talks with the Enugu-based club.

Rangers finished in second place last term and will play in the 2013 Caf Champions League.
