The LG Rhythm Organisation, a group committed to community development and youth empowerment, has donated a fully equipped ICT centre to State High School, Oyewole, in Agege, as part of its 2025 service initiative themed “Technology for Service to Humanity.”

President of the Rhythm Foundation, Lanre Success, said the group has made it a tradition to conduct a community development project in every state where it marks its anniversary.

“We have been holding our anniversary every year since 2011. Whichever state we choose as our venue, we make sure we carry out a community service project there. This year we selected Lagos State, and after assessing several schools, we decided to focus on a rural area like Agege, where there is a real need for ICT access,” he said.

He noted that the intervention became necessary due to the introduction of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model by WAEC and the accelerated evolution of digital learning across academic environments.

“These days, without ICT knowledge, one cannot compete effectively. Artificial intelligence and digital technology have taken over. That’s why we decided to provide these 20 computers to help students prepare for the future,” he aaid.

Chairman of Empowerment Projects for 2025 at the Rhythm Foundation, Kolade Akinyemi, said the donation was a step toward closing the digital literacy gap among public-school students.

“Many students here have never operated a computer before. They had to travel far to access one. With this facility, not only this school but three other nearby schools will benefit,” he said.

Akinyemi also acknowledged Lafarge Africa PLC for supporting the project through its corporate social responsibility initiative.

He warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other environmental violations.

Obasa noted that the first phase of the exercise will cover 100 inner streets, with plans to extend it to all 350 streets in the local government. He also assured that the welfare of the street captains will be a top priority.

The Acting Chairman of Agege Local Government, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has launched a 50 per cent food discount market for residents.

The event, which saw over 2,5000 beneficiaries, was in partnership with Inspire Lagos Food Market.

The maiden edition, held at the Agege Township Stadium, drew thousands of families buying staples like rice, beans, garri, yam, and vegetable oil at half the regular price.

Obasa said the initiative was driven by the urgent need to ease food burdens on families.

“Data shows Nigerians spend about 60 per cent of their income on food. We cannot fold our arms while families suffocate under this pressure. This scheme cuts food prices by half so our people can breathe easier,” he stated.

The council boss stressed that the scheme would not be a one-off palliative but a quarterly intervention, with the second phase slated for the Yuletide. He added that subsequent editions would integrate more local traders to boost Agege’s informal economy.

“Beyond providing relief for households, we want to empower our people. That is why the council will look into incorporating local traders in future phases to strengthen our community economy and commerce,” he added.

Obasa added that the initiative complements the council’s ongoing efforts in environmental sanitation and security.

He stated that 10 out of 15 major markets in Agege had been visited to enforce hygiene laws, while special drainage clearance projects were being executed to address flooding.

The founder of Inspire Lagos Food Market, Mr Abiola Adebajo, said the vision of the organisation is “zero hunger,” adding that the programme had already reached several local governments across Lagos State.

“Food is very expensive these days and people are really hungry. Here in Agege, we are selling various kind of food staples at half price,” Adebajo said.

He stressed that the markets are well-organised to prevent stampedes and commended the cooperation between government and private stakeholders in bringing relief to households.

Residents welcomed the programme with relief.

Mrs. Elizabeth Olubunmi Akinyemi JP, who attended through her Community Development Association (CDA), said she was most excited to buy noddles for her grandchildren.

She hailed the council boss for the initiative. “It will eradicate a little bit of the economic problems we face,” she said.

Mrs. Kafayat Adediran, a mother of four, said: “Things have been very hard in the market. With what I bought today, my children will have enough food for weeks. God bless the Chairman.”

Another beneficiary, Mr. Samuel Oladipo, praised the council for what he described as “a practical governance initiative that speaks directly to the needs of the people.”

At Pota Primary Health Centre, the council boss ordered immediate short-term fixes ahead of a comprehensive redevelopment.

Primary: Aspirant slams outgoing chairman’s comment

All Progressives Congress chairmanship aspirant for Agege Local Government in Lagos State, Sola Osolana, has criticised a statement by  Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi.

Egunjobi was said to have called Osolana a United Kingdom resident.

His comment followed outcome of the primaries in Agege council and Orile Agege Local Government Development Area (LCDA).

Egunjobi was referring to those he called “sore losers, who, for years, ostracised themselves from APC and our communities.’’

He said, among others, Osolana is not rooted in the activities of the community.

“The leadership of the party adopted consensus or delegate voting for the primaries with council excos as voters.

“In Agege and Orile-Agege, excos were constituted about four years ago when most of them distanced themselves from the party… he said.

In his reaction, Osolana said: ‘‘I am a resident of Agege, who has businesses in the council. While many politicians are afraid of putting their businesses here, I have many residents as employees.

“I challenge Egunjobi to take a walk in Agege with me without security and let the media cover the event, it is then he will know if Osolana is UK based or rooted in Agege.

“On employment opportunities, I challenge him to name jobs or businesses he has established in Agege using his private funds. I have established businesses in Agege which he  benefited from before he became chairman…“Osolana said.

The politician noted that his foundation, Sola Osolana Foundation, has contributed to Agege and Orile Agege.

He said: “I have funded empowerment for Agege women and youths;  scholarships, and incentives for sports competitions in schools at Agege and Orile Agege LCDA.”

Agege APC leaders deny imposition of candidates in party’s primary

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege and Orile-Agege have dismissed allegations that chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the upcoming Lagos council elections were imposed on the party.

The clarification followed growing controversies over the APC primaries held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the party’s state secretariat.

The primaries, which covered all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs), produced candidates through delegate voting and consensus.

However, some of the announced results, excluding those for Yaba LCDA and Mainland LCDA, have been mired in disputes over alleged imposition and manipulation in favour of preferred aspirants.

Agege and Orile-Agege, where Alhaji Tunde Azeez and Idowu Akinola emerged as chairmanship candidates, have not been exempted from such claims.

In response, the APC leadership in both councils issued a communiqué on Tuesday after a meeting at the Agege Local Government Secretariat, rejecting the imposition narrative and affirming the legitimacy of the candidates.

The communiqué was signed by key party figures including Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashir Obasa; state lawmaker for Agege 02, Alhaji Jubril Kareem; House of Representatives member, Hon. Dr. Wale Ahmed; Special Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Afolabi Tajudeen; Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Hon. Afolabi Ayantayo; APC apex leader, Alhaji Safari Adaranijo; and the first executive chairman of Agege LG, Alhaji Genius Owolabi Dada.

Others are: Executive Chairman AGEGE LG, High Chief Ganiu Kola Egunjobi, Executive Chairman Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon Sunday Johnson Babatunde,

Ex-Chairman, LAHASCOM, Hon. Richard Akin Osungboye, Former APC Party chairman, Alhaji Ayoni Shittu, APC AGEGE LG Chairman, Alhaji Tunde Azeez, APC ORILE-AGEGE LG Chairman, Hon. Salau Olaniyi, Former council Chairman and former Member House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Adeshina, APC LEADER, Elder Sunday Ajide and Former House of Assembly member, Hon. Ashimiu Adebayo.

The leaders in their statement said those faulting the process that led to the emergence of APC candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship in all the 13 wards abandoned the party and the communities long ago.

“As far as we are concerned, the primary elections were free and fair; and suggestion by some elements that the candidates that emerged were imposed on them is misleading.

“Those making this false claims are sore losers; and for years ostracised themselves from APC and our communities.

“To put it in context, the likes of MD of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, ex-House of Representatives member, Dr Samuel Adejare, and three-time House of Assembly member, Oluyinka Ogundimu have moved out of Agege for years in terms of residence and are not involved in the activities of the party in both councils.

“In the same boat is Biodun Ogunji, a chairmanship aspirant in Agege who lives in the UK with his family but weeks back came down to Nigeria for the purpose of his aspiration.

“Same thing with his fellow-failed aspirant, Bukola Sofidiya, aka Gidado, a US-based Agege politician and Sola Osolana who is based in the UK and was the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Agege in the last council election in the state.

“It is a general knowledge that the leadership of the party in the state in their wisdom adopted consensus or delegate voting for the primaries with party local government excos as the voters.

“In Agege and Orile-Agege, excos members were constituted about four years ago when the aforementioned persons distanced themselves from the party in both council areas and its activities; as well as stayed away from our dear communities.

“In that context, it’s only people with limited education and obscurity of positions that would consider themselves as contenders and not pretenders in the just concluded primaries,” the Comminique partly read.

LG poll: Crisis rocks Agege as APC members kick over alleged imposition of party chairman

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege local government area of Lagos state have raised the alarm over what they described as a desperate and undemocratic power play ahead of the party’s local government primaries.

Controversy flared after the alleged  disqualification of Ganiu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

It was gathered that a leading contender for the chairmanship seat, Ganiu’s sudden exclusion from the race has been widely condemned by party insiders as politically engineered and suspiciously timed.

As tensions mounted, the incumbent chairman, Alhaji Ganiu Egunjobi, allegedly rushed to the APC state secretariat, to purchase an expression of interest form on behalf of Alhaji Azeez Tunde Disco.

The party sources described the move as a clear case of financial manipulation and political strong-arming.

The situation took a dramatic turn with the emergence of 67-year-old Disco, previously unknown in the race, as a surprise candidate.

Currently serving as APC chairman in Agege, Disco’s entry into the contest has sparked accusations of backdoor arrangements.

Sources claimed that Disco had shown no initial interest in running and was not considered a serious contender until recently.

“This is not democracy. This is imposition at its highest level,” a party chieftain said anonymously. “How can someone who never expressed interest suddenly become the chosen candidate?”

The unfolding crisis has triggered widespread anger among APC aspirants and grassroots members in Agege, who accuse influential power brokers of hijacking the selection process.

Many fear the discord could splinter the party and alienate long-standing supporters.

Amid growing unrest, party members are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene before the crisis escalates.

Hailed as the architect of modern Nigerian democracy, they believe only his urgent action can prevent a full-blown political breakdown in Agege.

“President Tinubu built the foundation of the APC. He must not allow injustice and impunity to tear down the legacy he has spent decades building,” one elder party member warned.

As the political drama deepens, the path to the APC primaries in Agege appears increasingly rocky—raising questions about the future of internal democracy within the ruling party.

Egunjobi added that one of the responsibilities of the council was to ensure schools in the community were performing well and meeting proper educational standards.

He also said that the programme would mitigate the effects of the economic hardship pervading the people.

Egunjobi said that the support programme was not only, a public primary school in Agege, but also to cater for the educational pursuits of pupils with Special Abilities and the Physically Impaired.

He added that there were provisions for the physically impaired pupils in the primary school.

According to him, today hundreds of them will benefit from the distribution of the items and we will continue with other items next week.

“We will take delivery of the new 5000 school uniforms any moment from now to share with the school children as we have contracted them to our tailors in the neighbourhood.
