  • AGN:NEC suspends Cross River members

The National Executive Council of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has placed a suspension order on members of the Cross River chapter of the Guild, following a long- drawn battle in which members were accused of running a parallel administration.

The suspend order is contained in a letter dated July 2, 2014 and signed by the national president of the guild, Ibinabo Fiberesima.  The suspended members include Maureen Ekpenyong, Magnus Edet, Prince Emmy, Ekpedeme Moses, Emmanuel Williamson, Mbuotidem Akpan, Ekpo Daniel, Ubok Edide Ita and Stella Okon.

“This is to inform you of the resolution of the National Executive Council, NEC, to suspend you indefinitely from the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, for illegally running a parallel executive in AGN Cross River State Chapter, which is punishable under section 8, E of the constitution of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (2011 Amended). Kindly submit the entire Guild’s property in your possession to Monica Udofia, Chairman, Cross River State chapter, AGN,” the notice read.

It will be recalled that the Cross River chapter of the Guild fell apart early this year and a faction was created by its former chairman, Eric Anderson, after he failed to secure a re-election.

    ‘Nathy’ is alive, says family

Dr Chukwuma Amuta, first son of veteran actor, Mr. Romanus Amuta, alias Nathy, has debunked media reports, that his father was dead. “I am surprised to hear such a fallacious rumor,” he told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, yesterday.

The actor, who played the character of ‘Nathy’ in the now-rested New Masquerade TV drama, has been suffering stroke since 2009. He is one of the ailing actors, for whom the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN)’s president, Ibibabo Fiberesima, has been seeking financial assistance from President Goodluck Jonathan; an effort which two weeks ago, yielded a lifeline of N10 million for screenwriter Chike Bryan, who requires a kidney transplant in India.

The purported death of Nathy hit fans like a bad news at the weekend, until the actor’s son quelled the rumours on Monday.

“It is true that my dad had stroke some five years ago, that’s in 2009. Presently he is clinically stable and he is recovering well.”

“That was why I was very surprised when I heard about such information being spread in the media.

“The report saying that he is dead obviously makes every other thing false. He’s very much alive,” Amuta said, apparently disappointed that people could think his father could have died lacking medical attention.”

He said: “I am a medical doctor, and by the grace of God; I take care of my dad to the best of my ability; so, that is obviously false; he’s improving gradually; every day you see improvement.

“There is a physiotherapist that comes to the house and takes him on every day. So, he is improving gradually. He goes for checkup. He’s okay. Nathy is still alive. He’s doing well.”

He told NAN that Nathy had contributed to the growth of the movie industry in the country through his pioneering roles, and urged members of the public to disregard the information saying that it was unfounded.

Ibinabo Fiberesima to Clarion Chukwura: stop tarnishing my image

The president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, has debunked the rumour making the rounds that she visited the Presidency recently to seek a political appointment.

For some weeks now, the actress has been under attack, particularly from her colleague, Clarion Chukwura, following the recent visit of some members of the guild to the Presidency.

Clarion Chukwura had attacked the AGN president for not seeking President Goodluck Jonathan’s support on the issue of a legislation that could bring all actors in Nigeria under one body during her visit.

She also alleged that Ibinabo had gone to discuss the possibility of building a national secretariat in Abuja, while excluding the veteran actors during the visit.

However, Fiberesima, in an open letter, which has been generating mixed reactions, said: “I didn’t ask Mr. President for “a political appointment” as you have been mouthing. I thanked Mr. President for the few considerations he has made in appointing some practitioners into key government positions and requested for more of such appointments in line with our expressed desire to have more of our creative people in government and in politics, so we can be able to have people who will influence legislation that will be for the betterment of the industry.

“Ordinarily, I would not have replied you openly because I personally do not join issues with my colleagues-whether junior or senior on the pages of newspapers or on social media. Besides, as president of AGN, I should be seen to be uniting members of the guild and not causing disaffection, as your unfortunate outburst set out to do.

“It is for the purposes of correcting the falsehood and erroneous impression that your very unfortunate and jaundiced views might create in the minds of members of the guild, stakeholders and the public that I have written this letter to you.”

Lawyers’ absence stalls Emeka Ike’s suit against AGN

The suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike before a Federal High Court in Lagos against the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) could not be heard yesterday following the absence of lawyers.

Justice J. T. Tsoho ordered the service of hearing notices on parties in the suit and adjourned the hearing till June 26.

The actor had dragged the guild to court on July 25, last year over a leadership tussle.

Through his counsel, Malcom Omirhobo, he sought an order nullifying an alleged National Unity government established by the defendants to run the affairs of the AGN.

He also sought an order of court for the review of the AGN’s 2007 Constitution in relation to the tenure of members of board of trustees.

Ike alleged that the guild’s board members-Segun Arinze, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, Emmanuel Oguguah, Murphy Stephen, Sunny McDon and Okey McAnthony- have remained in office since July 13, 1999 when the guild was incorporated.

He also sought for an order setting aside the appointment of Segun Arinze as President of the guild.

At the last adjournment, Justice Tsoho granted an interim order for status quo to be maintained while the matter was adjourned for hearing of the substantive suit.

Meanwhile, Ibinabo Fiberesima, has since succeeded Arinze as the incumbent National President of AGN. Fiberesima was sworn in as the first female president of the guild in September 2012, amidst claims by a fellow aspirant, Emeka Rollas, that he won the election.

  • I might Remarry

    I might Remarry

WITHOUT doubt, Ibinabo Fiberesima, an ex-beauty queen, actress and current president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) is having a real blast. Not only does she dine and wine with the high and mighty in the society, her popularity has continued to soar higher in recent times.

However, what appears to be like a lacuna in her otherwise riveting memoirs is that she desires a companion whom she can claim to be her heartthrob.

As proof of her desire for a partner, she was recently quoted to have said that “When I see a man who wants to marry me, I will marry him. I want to marry, please. All my children are grown up now. I need my own company. Even my kids ask me when I am getting married and I keep telling them I will marry when I find the man. I have not ruled out marriage at all.”

She, however, ruled out actor Fred Amata (whom she has a kid for) from being a potential suitor. According to her, “I can never ignore Fred. Even if he is with a woman, I will go and kiss him. I will never disrespect him. Please, I am not marrying Fred.”

All hail Ibinabo Fiberesima at 41

POPULAR actress and president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, had cause on Monday to rejoice, as she turned 41.

While the gig lasted, not a few among the guests were enthralled about the stunning beauty of the mother of five.

Ibinabo, who assumed office in late 2013, has worked hard to re-position the guild and her tenure has remained relatively peaceful with the introduction of health scheme for both old and new members of AGN.

Ibinabo Fiberesima, who is from Okrika in Rivers State, has appeared in such movies as Letters to a Stranger, Camouflage, The Twin Sword and A Night in the Phillipines.

The first female president of the Guild of Nigeria (AGN) was installed as Ada Diora Nma in Enugu State a few moments ago.

INI EDO TO FANS: Be wary of fraudsters

DETERMINED to keep her reputation, Nollywood screen queen, Ini Edo, has, again, cried out against impersonation by some unknown persons in recent time.

It was not the first time that the beautiful actress and some of her colleagues had raised the alarm over such undisciplined practice, warning unsuspecting members of the public not to fall victims of fraudsters.

In a BlackBerry message, which was recently rebroadcast by her colleagues in the entertainment industry, the actress said, “My attention has just been drawn to some fraudulent acts being perpetrated by some criminals using my social media accounts: Facebook and Twitter. They have been compromised. I’m hereby warning these fraudsters to desist from this act. I also advise my fans and unsuspecting members of the public to be vigilant, so they don’t fall victims. I have not asked anybody on Facebook or Twitter to pay money into any account. Please, be careful. Kindly rebroadcast this broadcast till it spreads. Thank you.”

It will be recalled that the actress had in 2008 called a press conference in Lagos to clear her name in some scandals bordering on her personality.

At that time, some people had claimed that she duped them money and gift items.

For her, it was a most trying period because she had just been granted pardon after she was placed on suspension by the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, over a petition by a movie marketer who accused her of indiscipline and insubordination on his movie set.

    Oge Okoye joins the train

SULTRY actress, Oge Okoye, has joined the league of Nollywood actors who have been honoured chieftaincy titles.

The actress was recently conferred with Igolo Nwanyi 1 of Amilo Kingdom in Enugu.

It seems like the actors are all going back to their roots to promote their cultures in different ways. And in return, they are being appreciated for their contributions to their communities.

Some few days ago, Chika Ikeh was also bestowed with a chieftaincy title in Enugu State. However, these are not the only actresses whose contributions to their fatherland had been recognized.

It will be recalled that the national president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, was conferred with a chieftaincy title in Enugu State some months back, while actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was also honoured with a chieftaincy title in her home town in Ondo State.
