    ‘Action Alliance didn’t adopt Akeredolu’

The Action Alliance (AA) in Ondo State has dissociated itself from plans by some people “operating” under the party’s platform to organise a rally for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

The party, in a statement by Williams Ogunleye (Chairman), Joshua Adewole (state leader) and Mrs. Roseline Osaipemen (women leader), noted that those behind the plot were not party members and cannot speak or take decisions for it.

“We have it on good authorities that some people masquerading under the banner of our party, Action Alliance (AA), have been mobilised to support the APC. It is all a sham and a ruse to shore up support for the APC and we dissociate ourselves from it.

“Indeed, we have informed  law enforcement agents to    arrest them forthwith.

“Our party is one indivisible party that is united and has not decided to work or partner with any  party and if and when we choose to so do, it will be with the advice and direction of our national leaders.

“Thus anyone who parades himself or herself as AA members and is paticipating in any anti-party activities will be sanctioned,” the statement warned.

A statement issued and signed by its state coordinator, Mr. Gbenga Omole shortly after the meeting, said it has been integral part of Akeredolu’s campaigns in some local governments.

But has directed its members to return to their various units and begin door to door campaign for the APC candidate.

It stressed that the people must be enlightened on why APC must be voted for in the coming election.

The group believes their political strategy would go along way in garnering votes for the party.

It also charged all it coordinators to mobilise their members to receive President Muhammdu Buhari during the APC campaign flag-off slated for tomorrow.

    Akeredolu lights up monarch’s palace

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the Ondo governorship election Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), and members of his campaign team have fulfilled their pledge to power up the palace of the Asin of Iwaro-Oka in Ondo  State, by donating a brand new generating set to the palace.

During an earlier visit to the traditional ruler of the community, Regent Adekemi, last Friday,  Akeredolu had promised to address the issues of electricity and dilapidated road network raised by the monarch who had also complained that the town and palace had been plunged into darkness for several months.

A supporter of Akeredolu, Tunji Ariyomo, who accompanied the APC candidate to the palace, had promptly promised the traditional ruler and the chiefs that he would present a new generator to the community on behalf of the party’s candidate within the next few hours. The promise was fulfilled within stipulated time.

The Regent while receiving the generator, thanked Akeredolu and his support group led by Ariyomo for promptly fulfilling their pledge.

    ‘Akeredolu ’ll halt poor governance’

The Head of the Communication Unit of the Akeredolu Campaign Organisation, Mr. Bola Ajimoda, has berated Governor Olusegun Mimiko for running Ondo State aground in the last seven and half years and for giving a false impression about the state of affairs in the Sunshine State through the use of propaganda.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy visit to the Vintage Press Limited, publishers of the The Nation, Ajimoda said Mimiko’s tenure has been one of wanton destruction, tragedy and colossal failure.

He added: “Go to Ondo State today, there is no economy that people can rely on; there is no thriving industry, agriculture has collapsed, the education sector has collapsed, there is massive unemployment and virtually everything has collapsed. The government currently owes workers over eight months’ salary arrears and pensioners for over two years.

“Our people are eagerly looking forward to a change of baton in Ondo and we are there to provide an alternative to them. So, it is not about PDP, but about dividends of democracy, which is what our party represents today in Ondo State.”

Ajimoda said the people are regretting giving Mimiko a second-term mandate, adding that they are desirous of seeing the kind of government in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Edo states replicated in Ondo State.

He said: “This election is about the future of Ondo State, about the future of the children and about the quality of life of the people and the electorates at looking for a political platform that can guarantee these. They have tried somebody and his political party for seven and half years, with no positive result.”

The spokesman said Ondo State does not need a traditional or a conventional politician in a period of recession like the one the country is currently in; adding: “What the state needs is an administrator, a professional who will see the revival of the economy as his primary responsibility; by diversifying its productive base. This person is no one else but Rotimi Akeredolu, the APC flag bearer.

“There is going to be an entrepreneurial revolution that would rely on the agrarian potentials of the state. The industries that were set up during the regime of the late Michael Adekunle Ajasin have collapsed. Within the first 160 days, he is going to hit the ground running, by setting machinery in motion to resuscitate the ailing industries. If we open up the maritime sector of the state, we will compete favourably with Lagos State.”

On the internal crisis rocking the APC, he said such conflicts are inevitable when human beings team up to achieve collective goals, especially in politics. He added: “But, the beauty of our own scenario is that we have a party that has a robust internal mechanism to resolve such conflicts as they arise.

“I have said it times without number that conflict is an essential ingredient of growth in every society. So, when they arise, we must be able to nip them in the bud. We have been talking and we are reaching out to people who have one grievance or the other. As relates to membership of the party, all of us are united behind the candidate of our party, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu. We are still talking to them and we will keep talking to them.”

    •Says no rift with Tinubu
    •Buhari endorses Akeredolu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election, Rotimi Akeredolu was on Monday confident that he can win the two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants, Jimoh Ibrahim and Eyitayo Jegede, put together.

He spoke with State House correspondents after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari along with Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Akeredolu said: “l can always tell you, people who know me, they know that I talk most times with some confidence, let me assure you here that by the grace of God, we will win the election in Ondo state.

“I can assure you I would have been happier facing both of them together, if Eyitayo Jegede was chosen as candidate and Ibrahim as his deputy, I will still win.

“Infact Jegede happens to be a friend, Ibrahim too. Jimoh Ibrahim went to Ife, so we have known ourselves for long. I have no fear about both of them. We know that we are going to win this election and I have no doubt.” He added

When asked to speak on efforts to settle the rift between him and the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, he denied any rift with Tinubu.

He said: “I don’t have any rift with him, since the primaries you would see that as leader of the party, he has not said anything about it. He has accepted the primaries and we are moving on. So, I don’t have any rift with him at all and we are moving on.”

He said that his party in the state has already called on the security agencies in Ondo to be up and doing in order not to allow miscreants take over the state in the name of protests.

He said: “Because for instance as a governor you encourage lawlessness or people in the guise of protest because what the PDP has is a problem within the party, that should not lead to demonstration outside and you know that people are not demonstrating for any reason but because they have been more or less paid to come and do it.

“What we said is don’t allow miscreants to be out. Nobody can control the end of such demonstration. So its not that we are afraid, but we fear for the life and property of the people of Ondo state.” He stated

Speaking on the visit to the President, Lalong said: “A few weeks ago I was given the responsibility of leading the campaign on behalf of the National Executive for the Ondo election. And the candidate since election at the primaries have not come to be presented to the leader of our party, that is Mr President.

“So today we came in with the candidate and to confirm to the President that APC has only one candidate unlike other parties that are fighting about who is their candidate.

“We have only one candidate and that candidate is Chief Akeredolu Rotimi(SAN).” He said he was optimistic that the APC will win the election.

He said: “Well that is not a problem to APC, since inception you knew what happened in Kogi, you knew what happened in Edo, we won the elections. It was as if it was going to be very difficult for us but we won the elections.

“Today again we are going into Ondo, all the mistake we made in other states we have corrected them, we are seeing a very smooth election, not only a smooth election but the credibility of the candidate itself is something worth selling.” He said

The governor also faulted the visit of the out-going Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, to President Buhari last Friday.

According to him, Mimiko should have concentrated on resolving the crisis that erupted in his state.

He said: “Let me say it was even wrong for them to start running to Mr President to help them solve the problem of PDP in their party. Mr. President is the President of Nigeria and he is not a member of PDP. Even when we have problems in APC, we don’t run to Mr President.

“If he has a problem in his state, he is the governor, let him stay there and resolve the matter. Its a matter between PDP and PDP and those matters are in court. So why should you run to the President. Is the President the chief judge of Nigeria?” He queried

He went on: “He is not the INEC chairman either. Well Mr. President is a loyal party man. So he is answerable to the party although the president of Nigeria.”

On the response of President Buhari to the visit, Lalong said: “He has also confirmed that he has seen the candidate and is also praying for a successful election in Ondo State.”

    Akeredolu denies attacking AD supporters

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, yesterday denied attacking supporters of the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Olusola Oke.

Akeredolu, in a statement by one of his media aides, Kunle Adebayo, described the allegation as cheap blackmail.

It was earlier reported that two AD supporters- Sunday Akadiri and Adeniran Adeyemi- were allegedly attacked when pasting posters in Oke Owo Local Government Area.

But Akeredolu denied sending anybody to attack Oke’s supporters. He said it was a lie that the AD candidate’s loyalists were kidnapped and carried to his house.

“The truth is that the fracas in Owo was a deliberate act of provocation against Owo youths by Oke’s supporters, who came to Owo to tear  Akeredolu’s posters to superimpose their posters.

“I wish to stress that they were never attacked by our people.  It is never our plan sto forment violence.

“The critical question to ask is why would Akeredolu, whose popularity soars higher each day, attack Oke? Why? For what purpose?

“The point must be made again that what happened was an altercation between Oke’s men and Owo people who felt insulted by Oke’s supporters.

“Akeredolu is not in any contest with Oke. At this time we are focused upon our evangelism for a new Ondo State.

“This attitude of lying and   manipulation of facts must stop. “For the purpose of emphasis and clarity, I wish to assure you that our people did not machete or kidnap the opponents supporters.”
