    Bola Ilori condoles Olowo over Akeredolu, seeks support for Tinubu, Ayedatiwa

    A chieftain of APC in Ondo state, Bola Ilori has paid a condolence visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III over the demise of former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN). 

    During the visit, Ilori praised the late Akeredolu as a bold and courageous personality, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who employed legal means to safeguard and secure his people.

    He said: ‘’Aketi was a fearless politician who spoke truth to power mostly at difficult and critical times that most politicians find inconvenient.”

    Bola Ilori equally used the visit to eulogise the Olowo who he described as a progressive and unusual monarch who used the traditional institution as a tool of support for progressive ideals and positive influence on government policies and programmes, particularly in the area of security. 

    ‘’Oba Ogunoye’s principled stance, cultural enchantment and invocations against the June 2022 Owo massacre are legendary, the input and influence of the Olowo in the creation of the Southwest Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Operation will forever remain indelible in the heart of the people’’ Bola Ilori said. 

    Ilori used the Avenue to request the Oba’s support for the new Governor Hon Lucky Ayedatiwa, for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC in general.

    In his remarks, Oba Ogunoye thanked  Hon Bola Ilori and his team for the visit, saying it was very thoughtful and heartwarming in the time of grief of the kingdom over the loss of an illustrious son. 

    Welcoming the team in the presence of his council, which included Dr. Mrs. Folasade Ogunoye, the monarch described Ilori as an outstanding politician dedicated to human, environmental, and societal progress in Western Nigeria. 

    The monarch assured Ilori of Owo’s ongoing support for the new governor, Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 

    Oba Ogunoye concluded by offering prayers for continued divine guidance and protection in Ilori’s life.

    In the entourage of Hon Bola Ilori to the paramount ruler of Owo Kingdom were Chief Jamiu Ekungba an APC National Board of Trustee Member, Mr Akintunde Temitope, former APC Ondo East Local Government Chairman, Mr Wale Akindahinsi, the leader of Bola Ilori Group in Ondo West Local Government of Ondo State and many other dignitaries.

    NDDC commiserates with Aiyedatiwa on Akeredolu’s death

    The Chairman of the Governing Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has led other members of the board on a visit to the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over the death of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

    A statement signed by the commission’s Director, Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, said Ebie spoke at the presidential lodge of the Government House, Alagbaka.

    Ebie recalled the invaluable contributions of the late governor to the development of the legal profession and his principled stand on national issues.

    “Ondo State is a vital part of the commission. We have come to offer our deepest condolences to the government and people of Ondo State on the loss of Aketi, a man of deep integrity, who made significant contributions, not only to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria, but also to the well-being of Ondo State,” he said.

    Aiyedatiwa welcomed the chairman and his entourage and reflected on the great memories of his late boss.

    He hailed Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to truth and integrity.

    Said he: “It is a time of mourning, but we trust in God’s plan. Our late governor was a man of great honour. A visionary leader. A leader of integrity. He stood by his words, fearlessly speaking truth to power.”

    Announcing the state’s preparations for a befitting burial next month, Aiyedatiwa said Akeredolu’s death marked the transition of a remarkable figure, urging everyone to celebrate the achievements of his late boss. 

    He named some of them as the building of the first-ever overhead bridge in the state’s history, the overcoming of the impassable rocky Alaboojuto hill, the historic appointments of the first-ever female Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the first Ilaje Deputy Governor and subsequently, the first Ilaje Governor, even in death.

    The meeting was attended by a delegation of the Ondo State exco members, led by the SSG, Princess Oladunni Odu, who joined the governor in receiving the NDDC team.

    Those who accompanied the NDDC chairman on the visit were the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Ifedayo Abegunde, representatives of Ondo, Edo and Delta states on the NDDC board, Prince Otito Atikase, Patrick Aisowieren and Monday Igbuya.

     The NDDC delegation also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Akeredolu in Ibadan, Oyo State.

    Akeredolu left lasting legacies, say Aiyedatiwa’s kinsmen

    Kinsmen of Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa under the auspices of Ilaje Development Summit Group (IDSG) have said the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu left legacies that would be remembered for many years.

    IDSG said the legacies and achievements of Akeredolu spanned the Southwest and the country at large.

    This was contained in a condolence letter signed by Executive Administrator of the group, Adesola Adebawo.

    The group said the late Akeredolu made significant contributions to the welfare and progress of the state.

    It said Akeredolu was a staunch supporter and believer in the ideals of IDSG as well as in the dire need for the development of Ilaje land.

    According to the group, “Akeredolu was audacious, fearless and patriotic. At a time when agents of darkness beamed their searchlight on the Southwest states, Akeredolu stood and championed a cause that brought about the widely enjoyed regional security apparatus (Amotekun) in the Southwest and other parts of Nigeria, thereby helping to restore relative peace to these regions.”

    Former Vice president Yemi Osinbajo over the weekend paid a condolence visit to the family of late governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

    Osinbajo, who was on the condolence visit together with his wife, described the late Akeredolu as a bold, courageous, forthright, fair minded, kind and God-fearing leader.

    The duo were received by Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu and other family members.

    The ex-vice president said he had lost a brother and friend of over 40 years in Akeredolu.

    He said: “Dolly and I express our sincere condolence to Her Excellency Betty Akeredolu, children, family, friends, associates of HE Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu @rotimiaketi and the government and people of Ondo State on his passing.

    “I have lost a brother and friend of over 40 years. “Aketi was bold, courageous, forthright, fair minded, kind and God fearing.     Akeredolu’s remains arrive Nigeria

    The remains of the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu have arrived in Nigeria.

    Akeredolu’s body was brought into the country from Germany where he passed away and had been reportedly deposited at a morgue until the final burial.

    The former governor passed away in Germany on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

    The plane that conveyed the body reportedly arrived at about 3:39 p.m. yesterday.The wife of the late governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his children, and siblings led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother, received the body.

    Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbi Talabi; and a representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, also joined in receiving the body.

    Akeredolu’s loyalists accuse Aiyedatiwa of aiding PDP’s agenda

    Some loyalists of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu have accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of aiding the agenda of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by suspending caretaker chairmen recently appointed by Akeredolu.

    The loyalists said Aiyedatiwa planned to sack all political office holders appointed by Akeredolu ahead of this year’s governorship election.

    They said Aiyedatiwa ordered the suspension of the caretaker chairmen despite the appeal filed against the injunction secured by the PDP.

    Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the suspended caretaker chairmen said the action of Aiyedatiwa asking them to leave office might plunge Ondo All Progressives Congress (APC) into crisis.

    He said their suspension by Aiyedatiwa was prejudicial and amounted to taking side with the opposition party despite the appeal filed against the lower court ruling.

    Southwest Amotekun commanders walk for Akeredolu

    Commanders and officers of South West Security Network (SWSN) code-named Amotekun Corps have held a candlelight walk for the late Ondo State former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who they termed ‘Generalisimo’ of the outfit.

    The road walk, held in Akure, Ondo State capital, was to honour Akeredolu.

    From Cathedral junction in Akure, the Amotekun Commanders walked to the Governor’s Office at Alagbaka, singing in praises of Akeredolu.

    They were received by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and had discussions with him.

    He said Southwest governors would not toy with the security outfit begun by his predecessor.

    Aiyedatiwa said security of life and property in the region would not be taken for granted.

    Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, expressed optimism that the security outfit has come to stay.

    He said: “The Corps commanders of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and myself along with hundreds of their men came to pay solidarity visit to the government and good people of Ondo State on the death of our amiable governor, who was a leader of Amotekun Corps.

    “We have met all the governors and all of them have shown their solidarity to the people of Ondo State. All the Corps commanders travelled all the way from their states today, that’s the essence of the 5km walk we embarked on today.

    “The good work he (Akeredolu) had done is mainly in the security system in the Southwest. We all knew what the security situation was before the creation of Amotekun, that’s about three years ago, and we are living testimony of the fact that security in the Southwest has greatly improved. We are resolute in continuing the good work he started. That’s our own contribution in immortalising him as our great leader.

    “We already have the reassurance from the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa that he will continue the good work Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was doing in Amotekun. So, we don’t have any fear at all.

    Corps Commander from Oyo State, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju(rtd), noted that Amotekun Corps would continue operating, saying it had matured greatly.

    He said Amotekun Corps had passed the stage which could pose fear that it could collapse because it had grown over the years.
