How Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa’s feud started, by Doyin Odebowale

Doyin Odebowale, a former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategies to the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has revealed the reasons behind the mistrust between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Akeredolu.

Odebowale said Akeredolu would not listened to anybody who spoke against Aiyedatiwa before they fell apart.

He said: “Aketi will shut you down.”

In a viral video, Odebowale disclosed that the rift between Aiyedatiwa and Akeredolu originated when it was found that a female aide to Akeredolu’s wife had been sharing confidential information about Akeredolu’s health with Aiyedatiwa.

He alleged that the woman was scheming to become deputy governor after the death of Akeredolu.

He stated: “Where is the woman now, She is with Lucky. What infuriated the First Lady at that time that she decided to misbehave was the fact that while this woman was pretending to be with Aketi, she was getting information about the state of health of Aketi and was ingratiatng herself towards Lucky. She was seeing Lucky. She will not talk to Lucky but they were seeing in Abuja.

“She was scheming to be deputy governor in case Aketi dies. That was the genesis of the mistrust between Aketi and Lucky. Aketi never listened to anybody who spoke against Lucky. He will shut you down. Aketi will sit from morning till night signing useless files from these people who are now talking about forgery.

“Aketi mismanaged his health. The perfidy of many of his aides was unrivalled. They won’t allow him rest, they won’t allow him sleep. He took ill and the next thing is when will he die? People started holding meetings against the man who never offended them. I will talk about Babajide once Aketi is buried.

“Aketi was weakling, he would have called his wife to order especially when she was saying per adventure. I would have sent her away. Her outburst was unAfrican. What point was she proving. I know Aketi was not sleeping with anybody. Even from Ibadan I knew that. But these people were peddling influence.”

“Aketi rejected many chieftaincy titles. He stuck to Arakunrin. Those that made allegations of forgery should bring out the documents and show who collected the money.”

Odebowale said he helped increased revenue in the state by blocking leakages.

He said: “I was making money for the state and they were spending it. I made doctors to resign because they were collecting double salary. People were retiring but wage bill was still going up. In the Health Management board, doctors were travelling abroad but the state was unable to employ because they were collecting double salary.

“If Babajide and his mother were found to have stolen money, send them to jail.

“All of you members of cabinet who were unknown political entities until Mrs. Akeredolu and her son nominated you. It was Babajide and his mother who submitted the name of the commissioner, Rasaq Obe, who is now going about to tell the world he paid to be made a commissioner.”

He challenged Obe to tell the world how much he paid to the former First Lady and her son for his name to be submitted.

He added: “Come out and tell the world how you became more important than those in Ifedore who has been with Aketi since 2012. You are now telling the world because you are quarrelling with Babajide over diesel supply. I have more to say after Aketi is buried.”

Akeredolu: A governor that defended his family

One thing Ondo residents considered as a pitfall in the administration of former Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was the supposed overbearing influence of his immediate family members. Two of Akeredolu’s family members that stood out were his wife, Betty and son, Babajide. The opposition had use it as a campaign message during the 20209 governorship99989 election when the administration of Akeredolu was that of a ‘father, mother and son.’

As First Lady of Ondo State, Akeredolu’s wife made more enemies than friends despite successes recorded with her pet projects such as Be More, the Forum of Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO) and the Summer Tennis camp for youths in the state. The former First Lady was an advocate of women empowerment and protection of the girl child.

At the last, BEMORE annual summer boot camp, Mrs. Akeredolu said over 3000 young girls in the state have been trained on solar powered installation, Information and Communication Technology and Entrepreneurship since commencement of the programme.

Describing the summer camp as a breeding ground for future leaders and unlocking the potentials of young Nigerian girls, the Ondo First Lady said priority should be given to educating the girl-child in any society that desired to see a change and a developed economy.

She said, “Over the years, we have built incredible talents in solar technology, ICT and nurtured a culture of entrepreneurial adventure. And as we build, we give them out as bricks for building a virile, fair and gender balanced society.

“Having built over three thousand vibrant young women who are making waves on different fronts around the world, it is only ideal to build for these geniuses a place they all can call a home; a befitting edifice where the generations of Bemore girls would freely meet, interact and make things happen.”

An undergraduate, Madu Christiana, became a certified Engineer after under training in the Bemore summer camp and she recently secured a N4m contract to install solar home systems.

Through FOWOSO, Mrs. Akeredolu created a synergy between the Ministry of Women Affairs and non-government organizations to focus on women issues in five core areas of empowerment, equality, advocacy, support and diversity. Many women have been trained in different craft through the programme.

Many critics saw her pet projects as money spinning venture because politicians, local councils and the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Commission (OSOPADEC) were made to sponsor individuals to the programme. Mrs. Akeredolu shrugged off critics as she soldiered on. Replies to her comments on social media were venomous. Ondo residents saw her actions as injurious to her husband’s good work.

The appointment of Babajide Akeredolu as Director General of of the Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit (PPIMU) caused a huge uproar but late Akeredolu stood his ground. Before appointing his son as DG, Akeredolu once said he could appoint him as Chief of Staff because the son worked hard for the successes at the polls.

Akeredolu never cared about criticism about activities of his wife and his son. He defended them and explained why the people should be lucky he had educated and intelligent family members to support him.

He said the state was lucky to have his wife as First Lady. He said his wife was an intellectual and activist that always put the people first.

The governors arrived at the Akeredolu’s residence at about 1:15 pm in a convoy of over 20 cars.

Journalists were barred from entering the room where the governors were received. A big write-up banning the use of videos, cameras and or recording was pasted on the large expanse door leading into the large room.

A stern-looking man was also on hand to ensure compliance with the directive as he barked out directives and orders stopping journalists from entering the room and covering the visit.

However, unlike other times, journalists were allowed to sit inside the compound where a canopy and drinks had been provided for interested visitors.

While the governors were there, a former Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore arrived at the residence wearing a sombre look with his trademark cap.

Addressing journalists in the company of the three other governors shortly after the visit to the family, Governor Abiodun said the late Governor Akeredolu will be sorely missed by all of his governor-colleagues, adding that the void he left behind will be very difficult to fill by everyone.

He said all the governors are still in a state of shock and disbelief at the demise of Akeredolu whom he described as a senior colleague and brother.

Governor Abiodun said: “We are all here, governors of the southwestern states of Osun, Ekiti, Oyo and Lagos will soon be here, he had some flight issues.

“We thank God that Governor Akeredolu lived a life of impact on every side. He did well, not just in Ondo state but in the Southwest, the whole South, and the entire country.

“He was a senior advocate of law and a highly intelligent governor. He played a prominent role in ensuring that the Presidency returned to the South and he stood firm his ground. He worked so hard. He is reliable and dependable and we all feel very hurt at his death.

“We as the governors of the Southwest have agreed that we will give him a befitting burial and we have people who will work with the family and government of Ondo state for a befitting funeral rites.

“Our prayer is that the Almighty God will forgive all his sins and grant the repose of his soul. We also pray that he grants the wife, his children, his family members, the people and the government of Ondo state the heart to bear this very sad and shocking and painful exit.

“This is a man who was an advocate for the Southern presidency. We recall vividly the reinvigorated Southern Governors Forum meeting in Delta about two and half years ago and he championed that course that the Presidency must come to the South and he stayed with it, among several courses that he championed and fought successfully.

“Governor Akeredolu will be sorely missed by all of us. The void he left behind will be very difficult to fill by everyone.

“Collectively, we will be partly, majorly responsible for the funeral rites in according to him a farewell that he deserves.
