Garba fears Alampasu could miss AYC

Flying Eagles coach,  Manu Garba, has confirmed that first choice goalkeeper Dele Alampasu will miss out of the Africa Youth Championship(AYC) if he doesn’t join the team as soon as possible.

Alampasu, who shone brightly as Nigeria won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013, has been in and out of the team as he seeks to sign a professional contract abroad, with recent reports linking him with clubs in Belgium.

And with second choice Anthony Enaholo proving to be a capable replacement, Manu has admitted that the highly rated Alampasu will miss out of the tournament if he fails to show up before the provisional squad is announced.

“Dele Alampasu is still in our plans but we understand he is yet to sign a contract in Europe and he can always join us the moment he signs. But if he doesn’t come before the final provisional list is made, he will be out of the tournament,” Manu told SL10.ng.

The Flying Eagles continued their impressive form as they beat two-time African champions and the more experienced Enyimba 2-0 with 10 men in their opening fixture of the ongoing Super Six tourney in Abuja.

Next up for the Flying Eagles are Nigerian league champions, Kano Pillars today.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles goaltender, Dele Sunday Alampasu is in Portugal with a top division side, contrary to speculation in some Nigeria media that the goalkeeper is on the verge of signing for 3rd tier Real Oviedo of Spain.

In a telephone conversation with his Agent Olusola Orelaja, the young goalkeeper who turned 18 on the 24th December last year is with him in Portugal undergoing training with a top Division side.

The club has been in search of the player after his outstanding performance in the U-17 World Cup.

He said lately he received a call from the sporting director of the club who was able to reach him in London where Orelaja is based.

“I don’t know where the story came from, all I know is that as I speak with you, I am in Portugal with Dele,  and hopefully in the next few days a deal for him will be concluded. At this stage I will not like to disclose the club,” Orelaja who is based in London stated on the Phone.

“Due to the club interest I spoke with the U20 gaffer to release Alampasu to attend  the club which might reach an agreement with him in couple of days.”

Alampasu who emerged the best goalkeeper at the last Under-17 FIFA World Cup 2013 in UAE could not sign a professional contract before now despite many interest from clubs across Europe because he was yet to attain the require age of 18 until late December hence the fight over his signature.

Orelaja noted that what is important to him is the career of the player, hence the reason why they are not rushing into signing a contract which at the end of the day will affect the development of the young goaltender.

Nigeria U20 goalkeeper Dele Alampasu has said his quest to return to school may mean a reduced offer by Belgian club Genk.

Alampasu has been on a second round of trials at Genk and sources close to the Lagos-born shot stopper have now informed AfricanFootball.com that Genk may well offer a reduced offer because of his insistence to combine football with his schooling.

“Alampasu may be given a reduced deal by Genk because he has insisted he wishes to combine school with football and the Belgian club maintain they want him to be a full-time professional,” a source told AfricanFootball.com.

All parties involved in both cases signed agreements to that effect, MTNFootball.com reports.

Alampasu, Awoniyi look good for CHAN

Super Eagles Chief Coach Stephen Keshi is ready to shock Nigerians with the inclusion of two of the victorious Golden Eaglets’ players in his final team list for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) as he continued to cherish the performances of both goalkeeper Alampasu and forward Taiwo Awoniyi in the Eagles training sessions and matches in the Abuja camp of the team.

Keshi at a media parley last Wednesday had confessed that he did not miss the services of midfielder Kelechi Iheanacho who was excused from the camp to go and conclude the contract process of joining Manchester City of England but he would have loved that Iheanacho stays with the team because of his immense talent and contributions to the team in camp.

But a source in the team disclosed to SportingLife yesterday that baring injuries and other unforeseen situations Alampasu and Awoniyi should make the final squad of 23 that will represent Nigeria in the Africa Nations Championship in South Africa in January 2014.

“I must confess to you Alampasu and Awoniyi look good to be in South Africa in January barring unexpected situations. You know the type of person Keshi is when it comes to the coaching and football business. He is a very blunt person and always wants to win games and championship even if he is not making it public.

“To be very honest with you the Eaglets have really impressed everybody here with their performances in training and the practice matches they have played so far. What I can say is if they can or continue to keep their heads low as it is now they will surely be in the final list of players that will represent Nigeria in CHAN in South Africa.

“You know that on Friday the chief coach sent five players packing without touching these players we are talking about. That shows they are doing what the coach and his assistants expect from them”, the source told SportingLife .

No Genk deal for Alampasu — Agent

The claim by a FIFA agent, Goke Oshotoba that Dele Sunday Alampasu, the adjudged best goalkeeper at the recently concluded 2013 U-17 World Cup, is set to complete a move to Belgian side Genk, as being rubbished.

According to Olusola Orelaja, the FIFA agent who is the player’s parent consent, said there is no truth in the story published by an online football website.

The London based football agent said the management team of the player has not signed any deal with any club side in Europe.

“I am really surprised by the publication, I don’t know where they got the story, because Oshotoba is not part of our team or representative of Dele, so he did not speak on his behalf. We are still in talks with some of the clubs that have shown interest in having Dele on their books, including Genk, but no agreement yet”, Orelaja said on telephone from the UK.

He also disclosed that Dele is a player of Future Star Academy and not Abuja Football Academy, saying the player who is a member of the Lagos State football gold medal winning squad of the 2012 National Sports Festival was only sent to the football academy on mature understanding for him to get more experience.
