  • Buhari to Tarabans: I will complete Mambilla hydropower project

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday promised the people of Taraba State he would complete the Mambilla hydropower project, if he is re-elected.

    Buhari spoke at the Jolly Nyame Stadium during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and governorship rally in Jalingo -the Taraba State capital.

    “The Mambilla hydropower project is the main project that will bring accelerated development in your State; it will generate enough electricity for you to do businesses and improve your living standard. I will complete it, if you re-elect me,” he said.

    Buhari, who recognized the fact that Taraba is an agrarian State, said he will tackle poverty and make sure Taraba farmers access fertilizer at subsidised rate during cropping seasons.

    He disclosed he would continue his fight corruption and will make sure he fights Boko Haram to finish.

    “No religion permits corruption, violence and injustice,” Buhari noted.

    APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, described Buhari as the only honest man among the presidential candidates.

    He said the PDP had died and decayed since 2015 and should not be expected to resurrect at the polls.

    He said: “PDP will fail. They had fallen and they died in sin. The Bible tells us that he who perishes in sin shall never resurrect.”

    The APC national chairman received decampees. Among them were: Emmanuel Bello (former Public Affairs aide to Governor Darius Ishaku), Abba Akawu, (former commissioner of Poverty Alleviation) and Emmanuel George (former Special Adviser to the governor on Youths Development).

    Sani Abubakar Danladi, Who is the Taraba APC standard bearer, called on Taraba people to come out in mass and vote for Buhari on February 16.

    “Taraba is APC, and Buhari and I are going to win Taraba,” Danladi said. He urged President Buhari to “provide enough security at the polls, to ensure the election is not rigged.”

     

     

  • Obahiagbon promises people-centred, participatory law-making model

    Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Edo South senatorial seat in the forthcoming elections, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, has assured that when elected, his legislative agenda in the Senate will be formed by the people through a series of engagements with the constituents.

    Hon. Obahiagbon made the promise while addressing APC supporters at a rally in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

    He noted that when elected to represent Edo South, he would “in the first three months, under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, come home and engage in a people-centred, participatory and communal appraisal of the core issues that will form his legislative agenda.”

    The people-oriented model, according to Hon. Obahiagbon, will provide a platform, “where there shall be dialectical and robust engagement between me as a senator, Mr. Governor and the people, where we shall ask you what your priorities are.

     “The products of that engagement shall become my legislative agenda for the next four years.”

    Hon. Obahiagbon assured that the era where people in Edo South were short-changed by their representatives in Abuja was over, urging residents in the constituency to come out en mass to vote for him and other candidates of the APC.

    Other candidates of the APC in Edo South include Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, who is vying for the Oredo Federal Constituency seat at the House of Representatives; Dennis Idahosa for Ovia North East/South West seat in the House of Representatives; Hon. Johnson Agbonayinma for Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency seat, among others.

  • Buhari promises adequate security for poll

    President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to provide adequate security to guarantee the conduct of the forthcoming general election in the country.

    Buhari made the promise on Wednesday in Makurdi during the Presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Aper Aku Stadium.

    He appealed to the electorate not to be intimidated by turning out massively to vote for APC candidates at all levels during the election.

    The president said the APC was the only party that has the capacity and political will to tackle challenges in the country.

    Buhari reiterated his commitment to improving agriculture saying that recent policies had already made the sector attractive.

    Speaking on the fight against corruption, the president admitted that it was quite challenging but assured that he would not relent until the country is rid of corrupt elements.

    Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman, APC, said the primary role of governors was to encourage diverse groups in their domain to coexist peacefully.

    Oshiomhole, who advised the people to vote for the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Emmanuel Jime, said if given the mandate, he would pay salaries promptly.

  • Tinubu to Nigerians: let’s get rid of corruption

    The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Tuesday stressed the needs for all Nigerians to remove the cancer of corruption.

    He said the country deserves a leader like President Muhammadu Buhari for the nation’s economy to grow like other advanced countries of the world.

    Tinubu, who spoke at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure, the capital of Ondo state at the APC campaign rally for the re-election of Buhari, assured the APC would create an enabling environment for businesses to strive and promote industry, commerce and agriculture, which he identified as the strength of the economy of any nation.

    According to Tinubu, the PDP has admitted failure even before the election by their allegation that APC and Buhari were planning to rig the February 16 general elections.

    He said: “The PDP claimed that APC was planning to rig election. How can you rig an election that has not been conducted?

    “This is a clear fact that the PDP was preparing for failure. The PDP has admitted its loss of the election even before the election is conducted.”

    The APC stalwart urged Yoruba people to support Buhari and vote massively for the APC in the coming elections, saying the present administration has executed many laudable projects in South West region, which must be reciprocated with massive votes.

    Also, the national chairman of the party, Adams Osiomhole said the PDP ruined the nation’s economy in its 16 years of administration, stressing the current economic problems were caused by the opposition party.

    He said both Obasanjo and Jonathan did not remember the poor when they were in government while Buhari places the poor above the rich through his people-oriented programmes.

    He said the PDP believed that the government should be used as an avenue to enrich individuals, hence the claim by its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar that he will privatise the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

    Osiomhole alleged that the PDP used the machinery of government to empower some individuals when the party was in government, while the present administration has served the interest of all Nigerians irrespective of religion, tribe or ethnic nationality.

    Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu assured Buhari and the leadership of the APC that he would deliver the state for the party

    He said: “In 2015 when the state was not under the control of the

    APC we won, how much more now that we are in control of the state?

    “President Buhari should go and sleep as he is winning the election by the grace of God.”

  • Obaseki woos voters with impactful projects in Uromi

    Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has called on residents in Esan North-East Local Government Area to join the progressives by voting for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.

    The governor, who made the call while addressing the party’s supporters at a campaign rally in Uromi on Monday, thanked the people for their support.

    He said he has executed impactful projects that have positively touched the lives of Edo people in the past two years.

    He promised that he would work on Uzea Road and other roads in the area, noting, “There is still much to do for the people especially in the area of road construction, providing potable water, jobs, and electricity for the people of Uromi. I will do this and more, please vote for our candidates to enable us have representatives in Abuja that will join hands with us to fast-track development in the area.”

    Obaseki reiterated his respect for tradition, which he said informed his decision to reinstate the Royal Father, the Ojuromi of Uromi, Anselm Eidonojie, to his position as the paramount ruler of Uromi to further enhance unity and development in the area.

    “Not minding that late Tony Anenih was from the opposition party, he was given a state burial as an elder statesman. We love our people and all we require from you is to vote for candidates of our party, the APC, to sustain the development in the state and in the country,” he added.

    Chairman, Edo State Chapter of APC, Barr. Anselm Ojezua, thanked residents in the area for their support for the APC, urging them to cast their votes for the party so as to benefit more from the Governor Obaseki’s administration.

    Among APC candidates seeking the mandate of the people in the forthcoming general elections, include, Hon. Joseph Ikpea, APC House of Representatives candidate for Esan South-East and Esan North-East Federal Constituency seat; Hon. John Inegbedion, APC senatorial candidate for Edo Central; Hon. Frank Okiye, APC State House of Assembly (EDHA) candidate for Esan North Constituency I; and Hon. Emma Okoduwa, APC House of Assembly candidate for Esan North Constituency II.

  • APC to Buratai: Igbinedion harassing our members with soldiers

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has raised the alarm over the brutalisation and harassment of its members by military personnel attached to Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Bénin Kingdom.

    A daughter of Chief Igbinedion, Barr. Omosede is seeking re-election to the House of Representatives and her main contender is Mr. Dennis Idahosa of the APC.

    A press statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Chris Azebamwan, said the campaign train of the party was on its way to Usen in Ovia South West local government when Chief Igbinedion ‘with a retinue of thugs dressed in Army Uniform blocked the road.’

    Azebamwan said a bloody clash was averted as its candidate, Idahosa, who was leading the campaign team was able to bring sanity to the situation which he said was fraught with danger.

    According to him, “The incident at Usen was a major blot on the integrity and impartiality of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

    “We hereby call on the Chief of Army Staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai and the Commander of 4 Brigade, to bring to book, the black sheep in their rank and file who hired themselves out to Chief Igbinedion as political thugs and agent of violence, in his desperate attempt to shore up the dwindling political fortunes of his daughter who has been rejected by the people of Ovia.

    “We have appealed to our teeming members and supporters in Ovia to remain calm and toe the path of peace and to ignore the provocative antics of Chief Igbinedion.

    “We call on the Military authorities to do the needful by identifying the miscreants in army uniform who are hell -bent on bringing the gallant men of the Nigerian Armed Forces to opprobrium and public ridicule.”

    When contacted for comments, Omosede described the allegations as ‘not true and completely unfounded.’

    An aide to Chief Igbinedion who picked calls to his cell phone promised to get back to our reporter.

    He was yet to do so as at press time.

  • Obasanjo meets Ogun politicians, warns against further violence

    Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday met with leaders of political parties and security chiefs in Ogun State, following the spiralling circus of violence during campaigns in the state and the attendant risks to lives and properties.

    This came about 48 hours after the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Dapo Abiodun and running mate, Engr. Noumot Oyedele – Salako, reportedly escaped alleged assassination plot when people suspected to be political thugs blocked their access way in Mokola area of Abeokuta, leading to a clash between the thugs and supporters of Abiodun, who battled to shield him from harm.

    Obasanjo who met with some leaders of political parties at the Green Legacy Resort, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library(OOPL) Abeokuta, warned them not to heat up the politics of the state but to strive towards ensuring peaceful polls before and during the general elections.

    In attendance at the two – hours long private meeting were the quartet of the Action Democratic Party(ADP), African Democratic Congress(ADC), All Progressives Congress(APC) and the Allied Peoples Movement(APM).

    The State Chairman of ADP  Chief Wale Egunleti, who addressed reporters on behalf of the political parties present at the meeting, disclosed that the former Head of States, called orderly and peaceful campaign in the state ahead of the Presidential and governorship elections slated for February 16th and March 2nd respectively.

    “Our father (Obasanjo) has called the political parties for a meeting to shun any act of thuggery, fighting, and any form of violence during and after the elections.

    “We want to serve the people and we must lead by example. Therefore, we have been warned and advised to keep the peace in Ogun for the benefit of all,” Egunleti said.

  • ‘Vote APC candidates in Edo to sustain social investment programmes’

    As the 2019 general elections draw close, candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking to represent Edo State in the National Assembly have urged residents in the state to vote for the APC in the forthcoming general elections, to sustain the Federal Government’s social investment programmes.

    The social investment programmes being implemented by the APC-led Federal Government under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) include the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), N-Power, the Marketmoni and Tradermoni loans for small scale traders, Conditional Cash Transfer, among others.

    The candidates of the APC in the state are Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, who is contesting for the Edo South senatorial seat; Hon. John Inegbedion, Edo Central senatorial seat; Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha for Oredo Federal Constituency seat at the House of Representatives; Dennis Idahosa for Ovia North East/ South West seat in the House of Representatives; Hon. Joseph Ikpea, Esan South East/ North East seat in the House of Representatives; Hon. Johnson Agbonayinma for Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency seat, among others.

    Speaking to journalists during the launch of the NHGSFP by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in Edo State, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, said if elected, he will ensure the sustainability of the social investment programmes to benefit more people in the state.

    He noted that social investment programmes are laudable initiatives through which a good number of caterers have been engaged to feed school children.

    The APC candidate for Edo Central Senatorial seat, Hon. John Inegbedion, said the social investment programme has a reverberating effect on food value chain in the state, as the NHGSFP has provided employment and guaranteed means of livelihood for farmers, traders, caterers and suppliers of food to schools, adding that if elected, he will see to the extension of the programme to more schools in Edo Central.

    On his part, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, APC House of Representatives candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency, described the NSIP as a laudable initiative which if sustained, will create wealth for more people.

    “The sustainability of the social investment programme will spread the net to accommodate more beneficiaries. Now the NHGSFP has been launched for Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas, if I am elected to represent Oredo at the House of Representatives, I will ensure that the programme receives a boost for the benefit of school children in Oredo Federal constituency, in addition to other components of the NSIP, which residents of Oredo are benefitting from,” he added.

    Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who is contesting for Ovia North East/South West Federal Constituency seat, said “We have seen how the Tradermoni N10,000 loan is benefitting thousands of petty traders in our markets, with the assurance that they can benefit more. What is required now is the sustainability of all these and other development-oriented programmes.  I promise my people that I will deepen these impactful programmes to reach everyone when elected to represent Ovia North East/South West Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives.”

     

  • PDP campaign DG defects to APC

    The Director General of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organisation in Gombe State has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Alhaji Bala Bello Tinka (alias Tinka Point) met with President Muhammadu Buhari at State House, Abuja, on Thursday night, where he pledged allegiance to the APC, and also vowed to bring his political weight to bear on the election of the President for a second term in office.

    Coming exactly a fortnight to the presidential election, a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, said that the defection of Alhaji Tinka deals a massive blow to the PDP in Gombe, which has been governing the state since 2003.

    President Muhammadu Buhari campaigns in Gombe on Saturday, and Alhaji Tinka is expected to formally join the APC, alongside others, during the event.

    …says Next Level agenda ‘ll secure better future for Nigerians, at Edo APC rally 

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on Edo State residents to vote for All Progressives  Congress (APC) candidates in the state in the 2019 general elections, noting their support was needed to sustain progress being recorded in the state and the country at large.

    Speaking to a mammoth crowd of APC supporters at the party’s campaign rally in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday, Osinbajo said the Next Level Agenda was about the careful and wise allocation of the nation’s resources to secure a better future for Nigerians.

    The candidates of the APC in the state are Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, who is contesting for the Edo South senatorial seat; Hon. John Inegbedion, Edo Central senatorial seat; Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha for Oredo Federal Constituency seat at the House of Representatives; Dennis Idahosa for Ovia North East/ South West seat in the House of Representatives; Hon. Joseph Ikpea, Esan South East/ North East seat in the House of Representatives; Hon. Johnson Agbonayinma for Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency seat, among others.

    Osinbajo said that  Edo people’s votes for the Next Level Agenda of the APC will allow for the sustenance of effective allocation of the nations’ resources.

    He explained that the ruling APC government at the federal level has been able to do more despite less resources due to the high premium the government places on accountability and probity.

    “Corruption is one of the reasons our country is backward, Buhari is not corrupt and he will not allow anybody to steal our money,” the VP said.

    Osinbajo listed the creation of more jobs, improved power supply and other infrastructure as well as credit intervention as some of the things that the APC intends to do through its Next Level agenda.

    He assured that the federal government is increasing the number of N-Power beneficiaries from 500,000 to one million, adding that the Entrepreneur Bank will money available for youths interested in business.

    He further said that the federal government was working with the Edo government to establish its own independent power plant to support the state’s economic development, and urged the electorates to vote for the party’s candidates vying for different positions in the forthcoming elections to enable the APC-led government consolidate on its achievements.

    Earlier, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, expressed appreciation to Edo people in Ikboba-Okha local council which has the largest turnout of voters in the state, and said he was counting on them to ensure victory for candidates of the APC in the 2019 elections.

    “Ikpoba-Okha has about 260,000 voters, so I am counting on you to deliver all our candidates in the elections,” the governor said.
