  • ‘Only Igbos can deny themselves 2023 Presidency’

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) and Director General of the Voice of Nigeria,  Osita Okechukwu has said that on the Igbo nation can deprived themselves of the 2023 presidency as they will surely real what they sow if they Vote against President Muhammad Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

Okechuku who was reacting to the statement of Ohaneze Ndigbo to the effect that 2023 Igbo presidency quest is a plot to hoodwink Ndigbo, said the leadership of the Igbo nation should rather put its house on order and organise themselves in preparation for a 2023 presidency rather than agonizing.

He said “May I once more appeal to the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo to start organizing for Nigeria president of Igbo extraction in 2023, instead of agonizing. It is surreal for the truism is that equity, natural justice and good conscience is on our side.

“All we need do as the needful is for the Ohaneze Ndigbo leadership to think out of the box, reflect deeply, and dust off ancient stereotypes and prejudices by voting for President Muhammadu Buhari. The realpolitik is that voting Buhari will better galvanize and strengthen our alliance with the North, more than voting for Atiku Abubakar. Buhari has a Vote-Bank of 10-12 million voters, mostly his core followership reflected in his bids in – 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 presidential elections.

“Is it not disheartening for the National Publicity Secretary, of Ohaneze Prince Uche Achi-Okpagha to agonize thus?  ”…….. Note that neither President Buhari nor any Northern political stalwart has made a prouncement on the 2023 presidency.  Instead they have allowed some cabinet members of Yoruba’s extraction, including Osinbajo and Fashola, to dissipate energy to the effect that South West would have presidency in 2023. It is an orchestrated plot to hoodwink the people of the two regions in order to elicit their votes”.

Okechukwu reminded the Ohaneze leadership of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha’s statement that the quickest and easiest means to the presidency for the south east is to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term.

He also reminded them that they can short circuit the period in terms of only having him there for another four years and whatever they do in 2019 will determine what will happen thereafter because politics is a game of numbers and it is like a cooperative society.

He said “Whatever you bring as an investment when dividends are going to be shared, you will get proportionate with your investment and your investment in politics is what you bring to the table and I urge the Southeast to look at this matter seriously that every time we have a presidency in Nigeria, it is negotiated in several ways. Either negotiated by votes or what you bring to the table and you must negotiate from the position of strength”.

While saying that the South East remain  the only geopolitical zone in the Southern Belt that has not presided over Nigeria from the Aso Villa, since the rotation of president between Northern and Southern Belts commenced in 1999. He said “2023 is our turn, unless we wittingly or unwittingly throw it away.

“Hence, it is my candid view that with such immeasurable equity, natural justice and good conscience on our side, 2023 president is Ndigbo’s turn; unless Ohaneze continues to agonize instead of organizing. The present rotation convention we mustn’t forget was in the first place, constructed to engender equity, peace and harmony of our dear nation. Let’s harvest it.

“One therefore appeals to Ohaneze leadership to place the core Igbo interest above partisanship and demagoguery; for the quickest and surest route to end the vexatious issue of marginalization and create a sense of belonging is 2023 president of Igbo extraction”.

  • APC, Saraki trade blame over IEDPU event’s disruption

Senate President Bukola Saraki and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kwara Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq have blamed each other for the abrupt end of the annual convention of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union (IEDPU) on Christmas day.

Political urchins disrupted IEDPU 53rd annual conference.

The event which was being held at the Emir of Ilorin Palace forecourt had been going on smoothly until the launching of the 2019 calendar of the union which was opened by Alhaji Fatai Ishola Ajidagba, Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Lagos state who donated N5 million at the occasion.

It then came to the turn of Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the state who was called to launch the Almanac but some groups who dressed in the same uniform (Aso Ebi) were shouting to prevent him from speaking while his supporters were shouting his slogan “O to ge”(Enough is enough)  to counter the opposing side.

The incident forced the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari to leave the venue of the event in anger when the crowd became uncontrollable.

When the APC governorship candidate was called to the podium to announce his donation,  he made an attempt to echo the slogan of his campaign organization.

AbdulRahman was however shouted down by people believed to be supporters of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, who countered him by sporadic shouting of “Sai leader, Sai Bukki, Atunwa 1”.

All attempt by the organizers to restore normalcy and continued the programme proved abortive.

The security guards did a yeoman’s job before the Emir could be ferried out of venue of the event.

The highly disappointed IEDPU National Executive Council members led by  their National President, Amb Usman AbdulAziz later went into the palace to apologize to the Emir.

The IEDPU’s calendar, a major source of revenue generation for the union could not be launched because of the unfortunate development.

Amb. Abdulaziz warned politicians against turning the state to a battle ground with their behavior and utterances.

He said that politics should foster peace and and co-existence among the people stated that it should not be used to promote ethnic or religion sentiments and other negative tendencies in the society.

He said “politics should not be reduced to unnecessary bickering, unproductive name calling, mischievous allegations, callous comments, character assassination, hate speeches, encouragement of chaos, and whipping up religious or ethnic sentiments among other negative strategies which politicians exploit and explore to win the sympathy of gullible voters.

“Our take on 2019 elections is very simple. Ilorin should not be turned to a battle ground by political gladiators.”

Reacting to the incident, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s media team said that “the development at the IEDPU programme where some touts and street urchins shouting ‘Sai Bukky’ disrupted a community event is disappointing, embarrassing and antithetical to good moral and ethics for which Ilorin community is known.

“Apart from reminding everyone of the desperation for which the evil status quo in Kwara is known, the sad event clearly points at the extent to which the parasitic gangs will go in the coming months to continue to keep Kwara and its people down.

“The disruption of the event just when the Kwara APC governorship candidate AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was about to give his speech exposed the shenanigans of the urchins and their paymasters whose uninspiring radio programme earlier in the day has drawn the scorn and condemnation of every Kwaran home and abroad. The disruption was probably a damage control for their insulting radio programme.

“The intention was to damage the good image of the APC candidate and slow down the tsunami that is already consuming their unproductive political fiefdom in Kwara. But they clearly failed in their evil plot as their thugs — similar to what they did in Offa where their ankara wears betrayed their allegiance — were too crude to conceal the fact that they were on an errand to attack AbdulRazaq and make it look like the fine gentleman was going about with thugs.

“Like a cobra fighting for its life, everybody knows that they have since lost the battle of ideas and are unabashedly desperate to wrestle in the mud to survive. It is too late. The people of Kwara are saying ‘Otoge’ – enough is enough.

“We will not wrestle with the pigs. We won’t fall for their gutter politics. We are for decent debate, even as we mobilise the people of Kwara to end the years of tyranny and corruption.

“Regardless, we wish to state that we are bonafide of not just Ilorin Emirates but Kwara State and we won’t watch while some political merchants who have no real stake in Kwara deploy their sidekicks and thugs to unleash violence on our people. We will ensure that the characters who disrupted the IEDPU event for political reasons are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law. We call on the police and other security agencies to be alive to their constitutional duties and bring those characters to book.

“The development is a red flag and should be nipped in the bud. We believe our security agencies are competent enough to ensure that people who don’t conform to basic ethics of proper behaviour in public space are made to account for their deeds.”

Media Aide to Saraki, Abdullahi Olesin said “Saraki was not the cause of the disruption because he was not present at the convention but for people to act that way when he was not there indicated how popular he is among his people.

“What happened at d IEDPU convention today showed how much d people of d state love Saraki. It was a clear signal to d opposition that Kwara remains d stronghold of Saraki. Those who rose in stout defence Saraki are not politicians but ordinary citizens who appreciate the purposeful leadership that Saraki was rendering.”

  • 2019: Elders of Okada community in Edo endorse APC

Elders of Okada community, headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo, have urged people to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the call followed the resolution reached at a town hall meeting held in Okada, near Benin on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Odionwere (Village Head) of Okada, Mr Napoleon Imude, pointed out that they have resolved to endorse the APC candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency, Mr Dennis Idahosa.

According to him, the endorsement of Idahosa’s candidacy was because they needed a “strong voice” in the National Assembly.

Imude prayed for Idahosa to succeed at the polls, while warning the people against any act of betrayal in their resolve to support the APC.

According to him, “we have heard about you, Idahosa, for a long time. You are bringing something good. All Okada men and women should hear and we pray God will make you to win.”

Responding, Idahosa assured the Okada elders that the community would be developed if the APC emerged victorious at the polls.

Omosede Igbinedion, who is the serving lawmaker representing Ovia in the National Assembly, is an indigene of Okada.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate has told newsmen that the reasons for his endorsement were obviously for him to fulfill three things.

“One of them is for me to be active in the House to be able to attract a lot of development to the Constituency.

“The second is to concentrate on human capital development and to be accessible to the electorate.

“My opponents failed woefully in all these issues. She is not accessible. She is not around when important issues are being discussed during plenary.

“I could sense that Okada people are fed up and made up their mind to vote her out of office. They found the messiah they needed in me.”

  • PDP lied over ‘purported’ APC members defection in Ondo

The Ondo state Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday faulted the claim by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  that it received about 10,000 of its members in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It described the notion as porous and cheap propaganda, stressing that the claim had helped to amplify what has already been known that the party has no regards for figures, besides it’s inelastic capacity for distortion of glaring facts.

A statement by the party’s spokesman, Alex Kalejaye said “The APC in Ondo State wishes to place on records that a fraction of those who followed Chief Olusola Oke to the party early this year actually returned to where they always belong. They were less than 50 in number.

“The ruling party deeply appreciates the courage and will of the bulk of the group for believing in the APC, and resisting the indescribable efforts aimed at inducing them financially.

“What happened in Okitipupa was a political jamboree by the Ondo State PDP, designed to justify the huge financial investment of its national leaders, who stormed Akure, the Ondo State capital last Thursday, and led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

“It was therefore necessary for the State chapter to rent some idle youths that have no electoral values to present a seemingly huge crowd for further patronage.

The  statement stressed that Ondo APC was unperturbed about the hollow and rootless antics that will expire in February.

It said “We remain committed to our determination to deliver the State for our party during the general elections.

The party will continue to work for the good people of Ondo State and and showcase what we have been able to do, even at the national level, rather than orchestrated propaganda.

“This government has no place for deception and empty promises that will not improve the living conditions and welfare of the people.

The statement assured the citizenry that the present Akeredolu’s government would implement all the projects intended, and flagged off, while payment of workers’ salaries and wages would be sustained.

  • ‘Lagos is progressing because of intelligent leaders’

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has said that the state is making much progress because intelligent people have been ruling the state since 1999, when the current democratic dispensation started.

Obasa stated that the state was not excelling because of its strategic location alone, but that it is lucky to have been ruled by people with focus and good ideas.

The Speaker was addressing the audience at the 16th Annual End of The Year Thanksgiving/Christmas Outreach of the Assembly Chapel with the theme; “Reigning In His Majesty,” which held at the Assembly premises yesterday.

He urged residents of the state to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections to sustain the “remarkable success the state has made over the years.”

“This is a critical period in our country. Few months to now, we will be going to the polls. We must ensure that we have a nation and community where people live in harmony by doing what is good.

“The only way you can reciprocate these achievements is by supporting our party, the APC. Lagos is not succeeding just because of its location, but because we have been having people who are intelligent at the helms of affairs in recent times.

“When we got to office in 1999, the revenue of Lagos State was N 600 million per month, now it is about N30 billion per month. Let us sustain this by voting for the APC in the next election,” he said.

Obasa stressed that the Assembly community had so many reasons to praise God because they are alive and their family members are alive.

He added that the Assembly community had reasons to thank God that has made them to do what they were doing and for the fact that they had excelled in their duties.

“We are here to say thank you God and we will continue to say that because we have so many reasons to praise Him. The only thing that has been emphasized here is that we have reasons to celebrate God and honour Him.

“Coming together to clap and dance is not enough. We must extend our thank you to the less privileged in our community and in our family. Let us thank God by showing Him that we are very grateful for what He has done for us,” he said.

Earlier in  his welcome address, the Patron of the chapel for the year, Hon. (Eng.) Setonji David, said that the programme was one of the outreach programmes of the Lagos State House of Assembly chapel to appreciate God.

He revealed that the fellowship organises prayer programmes on a quarterly basis, and that they also reach out to the poor such as the widows and the physically challenged.

“The programme started in 2003 and it is now 16 years old. I thank the past patrons and patronesses of the fellowship.

“I thank the Clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez  Sanni and the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who has done well as the head of the Assembly,” he said.

The Bible Reading; Psalm 47: 1-8 was taken by Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuoso.

In his ministration, Apostle Oladele Johnson of Jesus Liberation Ministry, Lagos said that only those who know how to be grateful to God would enjoy the greatness of God.

“Whatever you have, God gave it to you. God deserves accolades for what He has done for you in 365 days. You cannot reign in His Majesty if you are not grateful to His Majesty.

“You cannot praise God and go down. When you are grateful, you become great. We must give God our heartfelt praise,” he said.

Guest Artist at the event was Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu-Adeoye aka Omije Ojumi.

  • Shun desperate politicians, Ondo APC youths urged

Youths in the country have been urged to shun political bigotry ahead of the 2019 general elections in the country.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko Northeast local government of Ondo state, Najeem Olodeoku gave the charge at solidarity forum held in Ikare-Akoko.

The youth leader noted that youths constitute 70 percent of the electorate and should comport themselves with decorum as political campaigns that would herald the election proper have commenced.

He urged them to guard against been a tool in the hands of desperate politicians for a token, which may land them in trouble eventually.

At the occasion attended by about 3,000 youths,Olodeokun noted that the achievements of the lawmaker representing Ondo North District,Prof Ajayi Boroffice particularly in Akoko North East gingered them to endorse him as their candidate.

The youth leader particularly listed the construction of classrooms at Agboriki Comprehensive High school, Cashew Processing Industry, Ikakunmo Akoko,  and massive boreholes project across the local government.

Abiodun said: “We visited Kobiti Central mosque to get the blessings of the Muslim community. The same we have seen in CAN. So that they can pray for us before we embark on going around to campaign.

“We also solicited their support because they are religious leaders. We thanked them for the peace we have been enjoying in Ogun State because if there is no harmony in both the Islamic and Christian religions, there may be crisis. I also shared with them part of my vision for Ogun State.

“Like I said earlier on, we will ensure that we keep them very close to our chest by appointing a Special Adviser on Religious Affairs and having Special Assistant for both the Islamic and Christian religions.

“So,  we have someone who is constantly bringing their issues to the fore so that they are not lost in the sewer of things.

“I have assured them that we will only be building on what Governor Ibikunle Amosun has done. It will not be any less. If they have enjoyed peace and harmony, we will improve on that.

“I don’t know about moribund. We will strengthen the local government administration. We will ensure that they are empowered to do that which they are constitutionally assigned to do.

“And going forward, we will see a more virile local government administration but that doesn’t mean they are moribund.”

  • APC to PDP: Stop dancing on the grave of Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to stop dancing on the graves of innocent Nigerians who were killed while they were at the helm of affairs in the country.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said in a statement that the main opposition party should also stop playing politics with the nation’s security and campaign on issues.

He said the PDP and indeed, all Nigerians owe victims of those gruesome killings solemn conducts in their honour and in empathy with the bereaved families.

The APC spokesman who was reacting to a statement credited to the PDP national Chairman said: “The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in its latest ignominious campaign of falsehood is attempting to distort facts on the security record of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

“The PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus in a recent television interview declared that under the APC administration, more Nigerians have been killed than during the Civil War that ended in 1970. Sadly, this kind of blatant falsehood has become the favourite pastime of the PDP.

“If we are to join the PDP in their mindless game of playing politics with the state of insecurity, we would be pitching the number of casualty during the civil war with what Nigerians witnessed under PDP. As a Party, we would rather engage the PDP on the number of completed projects and pro-people policies we have embarked on as a government for the benefit of the country.

“The APC understands governance to be serious business and is focused on finding lasting solution to the state of insecurity. Notably, significant successes have been recorded in the last three and half years.

“For instance, the Niger Delta violence that was prevalent under the PDP government has not only been tackled, the APC government has now embarked on the environmental cleanup of Ogoniland to restore the ecosystem of the area, which was of no concern to PDP during its 16 years of ignoble rule.

“Besides guerrilla attacks and hitting at soft targets, Boko Haram has been seriously degraded such that it lacks any capacity to hold territory. Most Nigerians, especially, the people of the North East are still smarting from the monstrosity of Boko Haram attacks on the innocent citizens and control of large swathes of the country’s territory under PDP.

“However, in view of the PDP’s distortion of facts, it is necessary to catalogue some of the many unresolved political assassinations, state sponsored military attacks against Nigerian citizens and unchecked ethno-religious conflicts that led to the gruesome deaths of hapless Nigerians in their thousands.

“We sadly recall military attacks on communities such as Odi and Zaki Biam; resultants deaths from riots over Sharia law in different parts of the North; unchecked internecine killings in Plateau State and other states in the North Central claimed thousands of lives.

“The Niger Delta militancy that emerged under PDP made the region a hotbed of expatriate kidnappings, killings, illegal bunkering and other criminal activities. With the emergence of Boko Haram under the PDP administration, the sect was allowed to gain ground and control 14 local governments, turning states like Borno, Adamawa, Yobe and the Federal Capital Territory into killing fields.

“The least PDP can do in this circumstances is to resist the urge to dance on the graves of the hundreds of thousands of people who were gruesomely murdered while it was in charge. PDP and indeed, all of us owe victims solemn conducts in their honour and in empathy with the bereaved families.”

  • Be considerate in you demands, APC appeals to striking lecturers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to be considerate in their current demands, saying government alone cannot adequately fund education in the country as a result of dwindling resources.

National Auditor of the party, Chief George Moghalu, who made the appeal on behalf of the party while unveiling the new school he built for his wife at the weekend in Abuja said Nigerians, especially the union should understand that government investment in education is quite higher than it has ever been.

He said the cumulative effect of past failures by government in handling the funding of the education sector is responsible for the current state of education in the country, pointing out however that people should stop playing politics with the issue of education.

He said: “What you should understand is that federal government investment in education is quite high. It has never been as high as it is now. Yes, we understand ASUU is on strike, but what is important is that government has engaged ASUU. I can say that with certainty because of the confirmation by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, that discussion is still ongoing. I am sure the issue will be resolved.

“However, one thing we must understand is that education is capital intensive. I want use this opportunity to appeal to the understanding of the striking academic union to look at it from the point that Nigeria is a collective enterprise.

“The cumulative failures of the past government that have now come to be a burden on this government should not the basis to access this government. One thing we must know is to avoid playing politics with education because is the only way we can empower a society and prepare it for greater responsibilities.

Read Also: APC crisis: Shettima, El-Rufai in Ekiti

“Government is doing the much it can by engaging ASUU but in whatever might be the outcome of the decision, we must not lose sight of the fact that the resources to government is dwindling and shrinking on daily basis and there is nothing we can do about it.

“What it means is that ASUU has to be considerate in their demands. They must understand the challenges facing this government. It should be a collective stake for all of us.

“Government alone cannot fund education and in that case, my appeal to ASUU is to be considerate and give government a chance. This government inherited the rot of the past 20 years and the burden cannot be left for it alone. Nigeria must be seen as an ongoing project”

He argued that meeting everything in the demand by the striking University lecturers will be impossible considering the dwindling economic fortune the country is currently facing.

Promising to give scholarship to brilliant indigent students, Moghalu said: “For me, education is a social service, giving back to the society. This is the driving force and again, my wife has always had a passion and a vision, since we got married 31 years ago, to establish a school where young people can be brought up in the fear of God and given proper direction for their lives.

“I saw it as a challenge on my part to support her dream. And because she sees it more as a social service, I am sure the school fees will not be exorbitant. Essentially, I have told her that I am going to support by way of providing scholarship opportunities for the indigent children that are academically sound with handicap parents”.
