Nwafor stated that the Senator does not represent APC, adding that the party has just one authentic Executive that has been authenticated by various Court judgments.

According to him, “In the last few days our party has been inundated with calls over the activities of some persons who are posing as members of the APC. Our party is particularly disturbed that this group of people whose nefarious activities as spearheaded by a Senator from this state, Senator Hope Uzodinma. Senator Uzodinma has been misleading the public about certain issues concerning our party. Sunday, our attention was drawn to a kangaroo meeting that was supposedly held by a faction of this party led by Senator Hope Uzodinma. We want to put it on record that Senator Uzodinma is not a member of the APC; his Omuma Ward Chairman has not informed the party that Senator Uzodinma has joined the party.

“Also Senator Uzodinma has not declared on the floor of the Senate that he has joined the APC, THE Imo State Executive of our party is not aware that he is a member of this party. There has been a lot of statements credited to him inferring that the President Muhammadu Buhari and our Nation Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole have empowered him to determine delegates and aspirants, as well as run this party.

“We want to inform the National Executive Committee of our party that to the best of our knowledge, Senator Hope Uzodinma is not a member of APC. If there are waivers for him, we have not been communicated formerly”.

Nwafor continued that, “before anyone in the Presidency or National Headquarters of our party, deals with Senator Hope Uzodinma, it is pertinent that the person as the question, who is Senator Hope Uzodinma, what are his antecedents. After you have determined these two important questions, who will now know how best to deal with him. APC as a party in this state has just one leader and that is Governor Rochas Okorocha and it is on record that when this party was tagged Boko Haram in this state, Governor Okorocha won elections with the party. There is also one state Chairman that has been affirmed by several Court judgments and that his Daniel Nwafor, my humble self”.

Explaining the adoption of indirect primaries by the SEC as the mode for selecting the party’s candidate, Nwafor stated that it was in line with the directive of NEC reached at its last meeting.

In his words, “at the NEC direct primary mode was adopted to choose the Presidential candidate, while states were asked to go and meet and choose their preferred mode among the direct, indirect and consensus modes and in line with that, the Imo SEC of our party met and adopted the indirect mode and we have also communicated same to the NEC as directed”.

  • Yobe APC divided over Gaidam’s choice of successor

…aspirant call for level playing ground, power rotation

The soul of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe state is no longer intact over the choice of Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam to anoint Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, the National Secretary of the party.

Despites the decision of the APC Critical stakeholders meeting in the state that mandated Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam to absolutely hand-pick the governorship candidate of the party come 2019 general election, another aspirant, Ibrahim Bomoi on Sunday stormed Damaturu amidst thousands of his supporters to commission his campaign office ahead of the primary elections of the party.

The former Director of Treasury of the Federal Capital Development Authority was greeted with a huge number of supporters in Damaturu which caused a gridlock along the Damaturu/Kano/Maiduguri highway where his office is located.

Fielding questions from journalists at the event, the Director of Bomoi Campaign Organization in Zone B, Alhaji Salleh Jauro called for power shift from Zone A which he said has enjoyed more political patronage in the state than any zone having ruled the state for more than twenty years.

Jauro also condemned the action of Gov. Gaidam for coming public to anoint a candidate to succeed him instead of providing a level playing ground for the aspirants at the contest.

He also disclosed that both Zone A and Zone B have teamed up to break the political hegemony that the Kanuris have enjoyed in the state, while calling for the total rejection of the Gov. Gaidam’s choice of Mai Mala Buni as the candidate for the party.

“It is morally wrong for Ibrahim Gaidam to choose any body from Zone A which is his zone to be governor of Yobe State again. This is a zone that has enjoyed more political patronage than any other zone in the state.  The APC National Secretary was zoned to Northeast and down to Yobe and Borno, Bonor gave it to Yobe and Ibrahim Gaidam gave it to Zone A, the minister is from zone A, the ambassador is from zone A. Zone A has ruled Yobe for twenty years now and Ibrahim Gaidam will now pick a governor from Zone A and from Gujba again where Bukar ruled for more than ten years. This is unacceptable. Gov. Gaidam should have shown justice by allowing Zone B to complete the tenure of their son Late Mamman Ali who appointed him deputy and ruled for eighteen months before he died. After zone B, then we would have handed the governorship to Zone C in the spirit of rotation,” Jauro said.

On whether they would leave the party, Alh. Jauro said, “there is no question of leaving the party. We are going to stay inside and ensure victory on our side. It is Allah that gives power and we believe in Allah and by His grace our candidate Ibrahim Bomoi will emerge victorious”.

Olumide who represented Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency from 2011 – 2015, said he was neither contacted for any consensus arrangement nor did he participate in one, but his name was listed for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency seat’s ticket.

The son of former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Segun Osoba, who made this known in a statement, added that it is not only “absurd and ridiculous to find his name on a list been peddled as a consensus list,” but also wrong to attempt to ship him from his primary constituency into another.

He explained that he owes full allegiance to Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency and had never entertained any thought of abandoning them to seek election into the House of Representatives from another Constituency.

The statement reads in full: “I, Olumide Osoba, was privileged to be among the few chosen  360 out of the over 160 million Nigerians to Represent my people in the Green chamber in 2011-2015 at the House of Representatives.

“I will forever be grateful to the people of Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency for finding me worthy to be their Representative.

“Having said that I owe full allegiance to that Federal Constituency and at no time have I ever entertained the thought of abandoning them to seek election into the House of Representatives from another Constituency.

“I served them with all I had and I am till this day grateful for the bond we have. I registered and vote at Owode Ward 3, unit 006 Geleodun polling unit in Obafemi Owode Local Government and I have never participated in the politics of Abeokua South.

“It is therefore absurd and ridiculous to find my name on a list been peddled allegedly as a consensus list.

“I at no time participated in any consensus arrangement and neither was I contacted. I therefore wish to disassociate myself from the list.

“On the issue of primaries of our Great Party for aspirants seeking to become Candidates in the General election of 2019 I totally abide by the ruling and communiqué of the NWC and i am ready and willing to submit myself to a direct Primary in my Federal Constituency of Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency,” Olumide stated.

  • Leave us out of PDP’s problems, APC tells Wike

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday asked the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to concentrate on the task of the 2019 elections and leave it out of its challenges of choosing a presidential candidate from the deluge of aspirants in its fold.

Acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena told The Nation that it will never descend to the level of planting aspirants in any party as was the tradition with the PDP when it held sway.

Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike had in an interview with an online newspaper said that they were aware that some of the Presidential aspirants of the party were being sponsored by the APC and the Presidency.

Wike said in the interview that “Those who are complaining about me are those who are afraid because they are the agents of APC. We know those PDP presidential aspirants who are agents of PDP. We know them. The presidency and the APC have planted people within our party, and we know it.

“They planted Modu Sheriff and we fell for it. I bought into it not knowing it was a set-up. And then when we realised, we said no, we have to fight it. And we fought it. I cannot again fall for the fool that I became under Ali Modu Sheriff. I know some of our presidential aspirants who are running on the sponsorship of the APC and the presidency.”

Nabena said “that is not true. We will never descend to that level of planting people in the PDP. We all know that they were the ones planting people in the past. We have no business with whatever they are doing.

“The PDP should face their problems and address them. We have better things to do than think of how to plant aspirants in their party. The people that left our party for the PDP were those they planted in the party and when they failed to achieve their aim of destroying the party, they left.

“So, the PDP should face their problem and leave us out of it. We have nothing to do with them and their aspirants”.

  • Buhari’s visit to China already yielding results to Nigerians, says APC UK

The United Kingdom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Muhamnadu Buhari’s recent official visit to China is already yielding positive results for Nigerians.

Mr Ade Omole, leader of the chapter, said  this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that the President deserved commendation.

He stressed that the visit was already yielding results, especially with the assurances from the Joint Venture Partners handling the 3,050 Megawatts Mambilla Hydro-electric Plant project.

Omole added that the fact that work would commence on the project early in 2019 as assured by the contractors, was a good development that deserved praise.

He recalled that President Buhari received the assurance at a meeting with Prof Lyu Ze Xiang, the President of Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), the construction company handling the project, in Beijing, China during the visit.

“Electricity is key to national growth and a major feature for business sustainability.

“We understand how critical the Mambilla project is to your country and we will take a serious look at it and ensure that it succeeds because of its social and economic importance.

“We fully understand the importance of this project to the economic and social well being of Nigeria,”Xiang had said during the visit,”

Omole noted that arrangements on the commencement of the project in early 2019 had reached advanced stage, adding that the APC-led Federal Government was doing everything possible to better the lives of Nigerians.

“The contractor had assured that pre-commencement work would begin with access to site and putting in place the necessary support infrastructure such as power, water and transportation,” he said.

He further said that when completed, the Mambilla Hydro-electric Plant would provide 3050 megawatts of electricity to Nigerians, thereby adding to the power grid for the country’s development.

This, followed the signing of $328m for the Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone Phase II (NICTIB II) project by the two countries.

The concessional loan agreement between Galaxy Backbone Limited and Huawei Technologies Limited (HUAWEI) was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Finance Kemi Adesoun and Wang Xiaotoa, Director-General, International Development Agency, in the presence of Presidents of the two countries.

  • 2019: Buhari deserves second term – party chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi, Chief Egwu Chima said that President Muhammadu Buhari had done well in the delivery of his electoral promises to deserve a second term.

Chima, a former Commissioner of Information in Ebonyi, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abakaliki.

He said that the outstanding performance of the President in his first term had brought a lot of attraction to the office of the presidency of the country as attested by the number of presidential aspirants jostling to take over from him.

Chima said that Buhari had restored and repositioned the country’s battered international image, making Nigeria a hub for genuine international investors.

The party chieftain said that though there were still some challenges in the country, Buhari had performed remarkably and had acquitted himself well as president of the country.

Chima, who is also a member of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), said those who said Buhari had not done well were either playing politics or refused to check the facts.

According to him, the president has achieved a lot in the areas on which he anchored his campaign promises, despite the herculean problems he met on ground.

“President Buhari has done well based on the facts available and not sentiments.

“He has done well in the delivery of his campaign promises despite the big problems he met on ground, especially in the fight against financial corruption, insurgency, and creating job among others.

“He has made the office of the presidency more attractive than any other president before him.

“The multiplicity of presidential aspirants, especially from the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), jostling to take over from Buhari is a testimony of one fact; thatt Buhari has made the office more attractive.

“Others who had ruled this country before dwelt on fear, trepidation, not identifying real issues and had played to the gallery.

“But he came and tackled what others feared to tackle and confronted those issues posing national disgrace and embarrassment head long without fear or favour.

“It is the excellent work that he is doing that he is now stepping on toes of those stealing from the country because so many of his policies are touching on the reach.

“He has steered the country back to economic growth after the global economic recession while some other countries are still wriggling under recession caused by crash in commodity prices.

“The country is out and is even doing well in the area of economic diversification,” Chima said.

He said that the credibility problem of the other aspirants from the opposition parties had made Buhari almost a ‘sole’ candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

“Buhari’s popularity has continued to soar with support base from every nook and cranny of the country.

“With the ‘integrity’ problem of most of the major aspirants from the opposition parties, Buhari will run almost as a sole candidate in the presidential election.

“Nigerians will massively vote to re-elect him for the second term in office in 2019.”

Chima, one of the founding fathers of Ebonyi, said the opposition was only seeing Buhari’s performance based on their perspectives which did not reflect the facts on ground.

  • 2019: Two PDP senators vow to sack El- Rufai

Two serving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators have vowed to sack the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai from office in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Senators Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North) and Danjuma La’ah (Kaduna South) said they have joined forces against the governor to defeat him at the poll.

While Hunkuyi is contesting the position on the platform of the PDP, La’ah said he was mobilizing voters in his senatorial district for his colleague to unseat El-Rufai of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing a gathering at the rally, Hunkuyi promised that if elected, he would, within one week, reinstate all the traditional rulers and chiefs that were sacked by the governor earlier this year, describing their removal was an act of injustice.

The aspirant also promised to revisit the case of the over 25, 000 primary school teachers who were sacked by the governor. Hunkuyi said he would set up a committee that would review the cases of the affected teachers strictly on their merits.
