“With this, we can say that air business has grown to the level we want it and people have options to carry out their businesses because they can come and leave Katsina the same day after finishing their businesses. This has opened businesses and the economy of the State, making investors and other businesses to come to this State.

‘Inordinate ambition’ fuelled El-Rufai’s defection to SDP — Presidency

The Presidency has downplayed the defection of former Kaduna Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), suggesting that his move is driven by personal ambition rather than political ideology.

Reacting to the reports on Monday, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, stated that while El-Rufai has the constitutional right to switch parties, his motives will be scrutinised.

Bwala on his verified X handle @DanielBwala, on Monday, argued that El-Rufai’s political relevance was not as sudden or significant as some might suggest and indicated that the coming days would see further examination of his decision.

Bwala criticised the former governor’s association with opposition forces, asserting that working with those seeking to unseat the incumbent government does not constitute a political ideology or progressivism.

Instead, he described the move as a reflection of personal ambition, which he predicted would ultimately fail.

El-Rufai confirmed his deflection to the SDP on Monday, stating it was the best decision to take.

But Bwala said: “Senior, @elrufai . I read the news today that you resigned from APC to join SDP. Well I have nothing against you because you exercised your constitutional right.

“However, the motive is what we would interrogate in the coming days and remind Nigerians that you are not a phenomenal that emerge like a clap of thunder out of a blue sky.

“We would intellectually remind you that associating with sore losers to unseat the incumbent is not an ideology, neither is it progressivism; It is simply an inordinate ambition, that is destined to fail.”

Equity, justice, inclusiveness solution to Delta APC crisis, says Johnny

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) High Chief Michael Johnny has recommended adherence to equity, justice and inclusiveness as panacea  to resolving the  lingering internal crisis bedeviling the APC in Delta State.

Johnny, Agadiwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and leader of Delta State Ijaw APC, in a video message on Wednesday, noted that the internal crisis in Delta APC was unnecessary and must be put to rest.

Johnny was responding to the controversial leadership council list, which has further escalated the crisis in the party.

The controversial leadership council list had been withdrawn and dismissed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC.

Johnny pointed that the withdrawn list was done and announced to the public without proper consultations with major stakeholders.

According to him, the party must be seen to belong to all registered APC members in Delta South, Delta Central and Delta North respectively.

Johnny, who joined the APC in early 2015, said there was need for aggrieved members to be calm and patient while efforts are being made to resolve the internal rambling in Delta APC.

He decried the imbalance where a particular Senatorial District appeared to have gained more appointments since 2015, to the detriment of other Senatorial Districts.

He alleged the Ijaws of APC in Delta South Senatorial have been marginalised, noting that it should be corrected going forward.

Jonny said the primary goal now is how APC will win elections in Delta State come 2027, and also bring development and empowerment to the people of Delta State.

For Johnny, it has become imperative to prioritise peace and unity in Delta APC, which is the only way to position the party to electoral victory in 2027.

  • Monarchs, APC stakeholders seek shift of governorship seat to Kwara North

Monarchs, APC stakeholders seek shift of governorship seat to Kwara North

Monarchs and All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders of Kwara North extraction have gone spiritual in the agitation to shift the governorship seat to the district in 2027.

Kwara North has not produced the governor since 1999.

Accordingly, APC stakeholders, clergymen, Islamic clerics and traditional rulers last weekend converged on Bode-Saadu, Moro Local Government, to offer prayers for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

They equally asked God to endorse their desire of producing the next governor.

It was at an interdenominational prayer organised by stakeholders of Moro Council.

Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of the event, Oba of Jebba, Alhaji Abdulkadir Adebara, craved for the unity of Kwara northerners to attract development to the area.

The monarch urged other districts (Kwara South and Central) to concede the seat of power in the state in 2027 to Kwara North for equity, fairness and justice.

Represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Prince Ibrahim Adebara, the monarch said: “We are earnestly seeking power to shift to the senatorial district in 2027. Moro is part of Kwara North. If we are able to secure the governorship ticket, we are confident Moro will get one of the National Assembly seats.

“We believe our brothers and sisters in the two other senatorial districts are partners in progress. Therefore, we urge them to concede the governorship seat to us. They should also rally round Moro Local Government to secure a seat in the National Assembly.”

A chieftain of APC from Shao Ward and a stakeholder in Kwara project, Dr Bolaji Afolabi, said the programme was aimed to pray for and thank President Tinubu in his efforts on the basis of Renewed Hope Agenda to change the narrative of governance in Nigeria.

“We also want to appreciate the governor for steering the ship of governance in the state well and for following the footsteps of the president.”

He, however, added that “what is paramount to us is the Kwara project. In this Kwara project, there is a serious clamour for a shift of governorship seat to Kwara North. The agitation does not start today. It came forth from what we know as Kwara project.

“It is a known fact and we believe we have been shortchanged in Kwara North. We never had it and we believe Kwara belongs to all of us.

“Personally, in Moro Local Government, exactly what is happening to Kwara North in the bigger Kwara is happening to Moro in the smaller Kwara North. From 1999 to date, Moro has not produced a National Assembly member.”

Speaking with our correspondent, Special Adviser to Governor AbdulRazaq on Party Affairs, Moshood Alaka, said: “We are offering prayers for our president, governor and for Kwara North to get the governorship seat in 2027. We are also praying for Moro Local Government to secure a seat in the National Assembly.

“For fairness, equity and justice, Kwara North deserves the governorship seat. At the end of Governor AbdulRazaq’s tenure, Kwara Central would have been in the saddle for 20 years and has had it for eight years since 1999.

“We are urging our brothers and sisters in the two other senatorial districts to give us opportunity in 2027. We are one family. We are praying to God to give us a seat either at the House Representatives or Senate. We are not specific in Moro.”

  • Delta APC resurgence excites chieftain

    Delta APC resurgence excites chieftain

A Delta  State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Mr. Sebastine Okoh, has attributed the party’s resurgence in the state to the influence of President Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s national chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

Okoh, in a statement, noted that the current reconciliation of leaders in Delta APC was a good development that will impact positively on the fortunes of the party.

His words: “There have been notable developments taking place as it concerns the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, and the feelers from the grassroots indicate that there is a high level of acceptance for them. This pleasantly contradicts the atmosphere of frustration, disappointment, distrust, and disenchantment, which described the status of the APC in Delta State before now, especially after the 2023 elections.

“Reflecting on the 2023 electoral outing of the party in Delta State, it was clear that the party was not prepared and it was evident at the outcome of the presidential and gubernatorial elections where we struggled to secure the needed 25 per cent for our candidate and didn’t do much better at the latter.

This led to the demoralization of the party faithful, especially in the Delta North Senatorial District.”

He praised the matured leadership provided by President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC, stressing that they are looking beyond the party’s shortcomings and are working with genuine leaders to reposition it for a better outing in 2027. Continuing, “As a people, we missed it for various reasons. From the party structure to our leaders, the candidates, including me and the members of the party.

“Issues like imposition of candidates, absence of a sense of belonging, and alienation of the party structure from its leaders across the state made it impossible to perform credibly despite being favoured by the presidency.

“We struggled to galvanise our people in 2023, but the National Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje has taken up the task of turning around the party’s fortunes, and together with notable inputs from eminent party leaders we are beginning to see a more united APC “.

Okoh described the recent defection of Senator Ned Nwoko as a game changer for the party in Delta North at the 2027 Elections.

He said Senator Ned was a big addition to the APC in not just Delta State but Nigeria and urged him to remain focused on his pursuits for his people.

He said:” One of the fruits of Mr President and the National Chairman’s intervention is the recent defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, and this has the potential to change the game for the APC in 2027.

“ Senator Ned Nwoko has proven through the years that he is a consummate politician who understands the politics of election and has always performed brilliantly at every contest he has been involved in.

As a representative, his representation is touching the long-nurtured state creation advocacy of our people, and for daring to address sensitive issues affecting the nation.

“Through his activism, the leadership of the Senate has found him worthy to head the Senate Reparation and Repatriation Committee and has recently been made Chairman Adhoc Committee on Oil-theft.

His entry to APC has given the party the necessary boost and balance in Delta North Senatorial District, with a view to a victorious outing in 2027. “ We also had the joy of welcoming the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Mrs Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, which was a very bold statement.

“ Hon Erhiatake Ibori is the daughter of the former governor of Delta state and a key figure in the renowned Delta Unity Group, a pro-James Onanefe Ibori pressure group that has so far partnered with the APC to work for and support the President Bola Tinubu Administration.

“ The DUG has been very impactful in Ika Federal Constituency, and led by our refined brother and former SSG,  Chiedu Ebie, it is playing the important role of presenting another inroad for personalities to access that APC, while also complementing the efforts of the party towards marketing the exploits of the Federal Government”.

He praised the efforts made towards securing the over 348 slots for party members in the federal government oil surveillance project.

He said:” The news of the Pipeline Surveillance project recruitment and payment has proven that relevant stakeholders had the interest of the party faithful at heart. The payments are very refreshing to party faithful who gave their best when called upon, as well as a sense of belonging.

“ I will avail myself as a partner in the progress of Delta APC by joining hands with other leaders to reconcile, bond, strategize, and consolidate the gains of the Tinubu Administration.

“The upcoming Delta North Stakeholders Meeting in Agbor is another opportunity to allow reconciliation and growth to reign Supreme, and I am going to be a party to ensure it succeeds because, we must come together and work things out.”

Supreme Court fixes February 10 to hear APC’s case against Rivers LG election

The Supreme Court has scheduled hearing for February 10 in two appeals by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the legality of the Local Government

election conducted  in Rivers State last year.

The court chose the date on Tuesday after conducting preliminary proceedings in both appeals, marked: marked SC/CV/1106/2024 and SC/CV/1106/2024.

At the conclusion of the preliminary proceedings, Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, who led a five-member panel, ordered parties to file and exchange their respective briefs before the next  date.

The appeals are against judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja which reversed an earlier decision by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for the purpose of conducting the LG election.

Justice Lifu had hinged his decision (in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/987/2024 filed by the APC) on the grounds that conditions precedent for the conduct of such election were not met  by RSIEC.

In reversing the Federal High Court judgment, the Court of Appeal held that the lower court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and issue the orders.
