‘2027 will be decided by performance, not polemics’

Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it has noted the recent comments credited to former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, in which he asserted that governors’ defections would not decide the 2027 elections and attempted to unduly hype the academic victory of the opposition during the 2023 presidential election in Lagos by citing the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

The party in a statement yesterday in Ogba, Lagos, said: ‘’While every citizen is entitled to an opinion, Lagos APC considers it necessary to place the facts on record and correct the sweeping conclusions and convenient omissions embedded in Aregbesola’s remarks.

‘’First, it is intellectually disingenuous to isolate Lagos from the broader national picture. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election not by accident, but by building the widest national coalition, winning the constitutional spread, and securing the mandate of Nigerians across diverse regions. Presidential elections are won at the national level, not on the basis of a single state, however symbolic. To suggest otherwise betrays either a poor grasp of electoral realities or a deliberate attempt to mislead.

‘’Second, it is convenient for Aregbesola to forget that the so-called opposition ‘victory’ in Lagos during the presidential election was pyrrhic at best. It neither altered the national outcome nor endured beyond that single contest. Just days later, during the governorship election, Lagosians reaffirmed their confidence in the APC and the progressive tradition by returning the party to office. Even more instructive, subsequent off-season bye-elections across the state produced sweeping victories for the APC, a clear and unmistakable reflection of the progressive party’s enduring control, structure, and grassroots acceptance in Lagos.

‘’Third, far from diminishing President Tinubu’s stature, the Lagos presidential election results enhanced his democratic credentials. They stand today as incontrovertible proof of his belief in, and commitment to, a credible electoral process. The fact that an opposition candidate could win in a state governed by his party underscores the integrity of the process under his watch and silences any lingering doubts about his democratic ethos.

‘’On the issue of defections, the APC has never claimed that defections alone win elections. What wins elections are performance, credibility, structure, leadership and a compelling vision. Where defections occur in favour of the APC, they are often a response to the glaring failure, incoherence and lack of ideological direction within opposition ranks. They are a consequence, not a cause, of the ruling party’s political strength.

‘’We understand the nightmare the current wave of mass defections has unleashed on the opposition. The panic, denial and rhetorical outbursts now on display are symptoms of a political camp struggling with its own impending irrelevance. We reaffirm, without equivocation, that those horrific dreams will indeed come true in 2027, when the opposition – bereft of ideas, unity and credibility  – will disappear into the winds of history.

‘’Finally, Lagos APC finds it curious that individuals who once benefitted immensely from the progressive platform built by Asiwaju Tinubu now seek relevance by attempting to downplay his political stature. History is clear, consistent, and unkind to revisionism. The political trajectory of modern Nigeria cannot be told without acknowledging the foundational role played by President Tinubu in building coalitions, nurturing leaders, and institutionalising progressive governance.

‘’As 2027 approaches, APC remains focused on governance, economic reforms, national stability, and improving the lives of Nigerians. We urge all political actors to rise above polemics and engage Nigerians with ideas, solutions, and verifiable records – not selective memories and convenient amnesia.’’

Ondo at 50: We’ve made progress, says APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Chief Gbenga Eleduma, has described the past 50 years as a period of remarkable transformation and steady advancement for the state.

In a statement in Abuja to mark the golden jubilee of the state’s creation, the Owo-born businessman and politician said successive administrations had laid solid foundations that continued to yield visible dividends in infrastructure, education, health care, agriculture and cultural identity.

Eleduma, who is also a well-known philanthropist, said Ondo State had evolved from its early days as a newly carved entity into one of the most resilient and promising states in the federation.

“The story of Ondo State at 50 is one of grit, vision and collective effort.

“We have witnessed great strides in road networks, educational institutions, power supply projects, industrial clusters and the preservation of our rich cultural heritage.

“These achievements did not come by chance; they are the result of purposeful leadership and the indomitable spirit of our people,” he said.

Eleduma lauded past and present leaders for their contributions, while expressing particular appreciation for the current administration’s focus on security, youth empowerment and economic diversification.

The APC stalwart described the ongoing 50th-anniversary celebrations, which include cultural festivals, public lectures, sporting events and statewide thanksgiving services as a fitting platform to reflect on the journey so far and to rededicate efforts toward building an even more prosperous future.

“Fifty years is a significant milestone, but it is not the destination. It is a launch pad,” he said.

“As we celebrate how far we have come, let us also commit ourselves to the work that lies ahead. The best chapters of Ondo State’s history are still being written.”

He called on all citizens home and in the diaspora to remain united, support government initiatives, and contribute their quota to sustaining the momentum of growth and development.

“Indeed, we have made tremendous progress, and with God on our side and the people working together, the future of Ondo State remains bright,” he concluded.

    •Declares interest in governorship race

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Samuel Mawuyon Ajose (SMA), has donated donates funds, equipment for the ongoing e-Registration exercise of the party in 57 councils.

This, he said, was to boost continuous voter registration and strengthen party membership mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ajose, through his SMA Movement, provided 24 brand-new printers and 44 brand-new tablets to facilitate seamless registration across centres.

He seized the ooportunity of the exercise to declare interest in contesting the governorship elections on the platform of the party.

Ajose, an entrepreneur and development advocate from Badagry Division, is seeking the party’s ticket amid renewed calls by stakeholders from the division for the governorship to rotate to Badagry, citing fairness, inclusion, and the area’s historical role in the development of Lagos State.

According to him, funds had also been released for the training of additional personnel to complement those already deployed by the party.

The beneficiaries include widows, the elderly, low-income households, and other vulnerable persons.

Ajose said his interest in the governorship is driven by the need to expand access to quality education, empower women, create jobs for young people, and diversify the economy through tourism, small and medium-scale enterprises, and technology.

He added that leadership should be defined by service and the number of lives positively impacted.

Aruwe gifts party member N100,000 for outstanding mobilisation

The Chairman of Mushin Local Government,  Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, yesterday convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting on the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) e-membership registration exercise in the local government.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structure and accelerating the pace of registration across all wards in Mushin. In recognition of exceptional commitment to the exercise, Aruwe presented a cash reward of N100,000 to Mr. Mutiu Balogun (BMA) for successfully registering 20 new party members.

The Chairman further announced that the same reward would be extended to any party member who registers 20 new members going forward, as part of efforts to incentivise participation and deepen grassroots engagement.

Reaffirming his commitment to party growth, Aruwe urged stakeholders to intensify mobilisation, canvassing, and sensitisation of residents, with a view to positioning Mushin Local Government among the leading APC e-membership registrants in Lagos State and across Nigeria.

The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by key party leaders, including the APC Chairman, Mushin Local Government, party executive members, ward executives, and zonal executives of the APC.

Addressing participants, Aruwe conveyed resolutions reached at the Lagos West APC stakeholders’ meeting, stressing the importance of party leaders at all levels taking full ownership of the e-membership registration process.

He encouraged each executive member to personally facilitate the registration of at least 20 members, assuring that such efforts would be duly rewarded.

The Chairman also addressed concerns surrounding the National Identification Number (NIN), assuring members that it would not constitute a barrier to registration, as adequate solutions have been put in place. He called on party faithful to remain proactive, committed, and deliberate in their efforts, noting that collective action must be visible and impactful.

Commending outstanding performance, Hon. Aruwe lauded Balogun of Ward C for emerging as the individual with the highest number of registered members, describing his achievement as a model of dedication, leadership, and party loyalty.

APC Chairman in Mushin Local Government, Alhaji Rafiu Shitta-Bey, applauded party members for their cooperation and urged them to sustain the momentum to ensure Mushin remains a stronghold of the APC.

Osun 2026: APC group begs for female running mate slot, vows 300,000 votes

A group, Women Vanguard, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to pick a woman as the running mate to the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji(AMBO), in the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election.

The group said a female running mate will put the APC at an advantage of securing over 300,000 votes in support of the party, aside from other factors.

The group’s appeal was part of a communiqué issued at its 2026 maiden meeting held in Ile-Ife, on Thursday, signed by its state coordinator, Madam Kikelomo Elempe and Secretary, Omolara Adedayo, which was made available to newsmen.

The group commended the leadership of APC for the unity, maturity, and discipline exhibited before, during, and after the Osun State Governorship primary election, which produced Oyebamiji as the consensus candidate.

The communiqué read in part:  “Arising from extensive consultations, we deem it imperative to draw the attention of the party leadership to the strategic importance of selecting a female running mate for our gubernatorial candidate, as this will significantly broaden the party’s electoral appeal and enhance its prospects of victory in the forthcoming election. In this regard, we strongly recommend that serious consideration be given to the Osun East Senatorial District.

“Available electoral statistics indicate that Osun East Senatorial District has a total of 689,708 registered voters, with Ile-Ife alone accounting for 343,707 voters across four local government areas, making it the single largest voting bloc in Osun State. This demographic advantage underscores the district’s strategic relevance to the APC’s electoral success.

“Consequently, we unanimously recommend that a competent female Christian indigene of Ile-Ife be considered as the running mate to Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji(AMBO).”

The APC Women Vanguard boasted a strong membership base across Osun State, saying, selection of a woman as a deputy governorship candidate will greatly enhance women’s political participation and mobilisation, thereby strengthening the party’s chances of victory in this critical election.

They demanded a seasoned politician who is an administrator who has served with distinction in various capacities and must be a grassroots mobiliser.

“Our membership strength, which exceeds 50,000 across the state, is expected to grow exponentially if a female deputy governor is picked in the progressive. We will secure over 300,000 votes from women folks

“We are sure that the decision to pick a female running mate for AMBO will poll more votes because the last two administrations picked male deputy governors, even the incumbent administration has largely sidelined women in governance, from the cabinet members to the House of Assembly, which currently has no female representation.

“We therefore respectfully appeal to the leadership of our party, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola; Chief Bisi Akande; the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru; and our gubernatorial candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, to approve the nomination of a female Christian running mate from Ile-Ife as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC in Osun State.”

•Edeoga, Nnamani, others pledge massive membership drive

Leaders and stakeholders of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State on Thursday intensified efforts to expand the membership base of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s ongoing e-registration programme continued across the state.

The exercise took place at Obibi Mgbuji community playground, where the LGA and ward-level flag-off took place amid a strong turnout of community elders, traditional leaders, women groups, youths and party faithful.

Leading the exercise were the Executive Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, Barr. Obiora Obeagu and the former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 Enugu State election, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, alongside other key stakeholders, formally registered into the APC.

Speaking at the event, Edeoga described the e-registration as a critical mobilisation effort, stressing the need for stakeholders to galvanise grassroots support for the party.

He said the exercise was aimed at strengthening backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah, noting that recent governance outcomes were already yielding visible benefits at the local government level.

Edeoga also commended the APC for embracing a digital registration process, describing it as a step in the right direction.

Also lending his voice, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Chief Augustine Nnamani, said his participation underscored the growing acceptance of the APC in the state.

He attributed his decision to what he described as the performance of President Tinubu, adding that mass registration would translate into electoral strength during future polls.

In his remarks, Barr. Obeagu expressed satisfaction with the level of stakeholder participation, declaring that Isi-Uzo was firmly aligned with the current administration in the state.

He urged residents to demonstrate their support by registering as APC members, insisting that the local government was on course to meet its ambitious target of 200,000 registrants.

Obeagu further announced plans to reward wards that record the highest number of new registrations, noting that hard work would be recognised and encouraged.

The State Coordinator of the APC e-registration programme, Chief Flavour Eze, explained that the visit to Isi-Uzo followed concerns over the initially low registration figures recorded in the area.

  • APC won’t allow opposition to rig

APC won’t allow opposition to rig

Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it has found it imperative to, once again, interrogate the recently published independent statistical analysis of the 2023 general election, which punctured the long-running falsehood that electoral irregularities were the handiwork of the ruling party.

The party, in a statement by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, in Ogba, said: ‘’A study, conducted as part of a Data Science master’s thesis at Pan-Atlantic University and based on an examination of over 123,000 polling units nationwide, establishes a fact the opposition has desperately tried to bury: electoral malpractice in 2023 was not a one-party affair. On the contrary, the highest concentration of statistically significant irregularities occurred in Labour Party (LP) strongholds, particularly in parts of Southeast.

‘’While Lagos State – the political home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu – recorded an anomaly rate of just 2.3 per cent, states loudly marketed as victims of rigging posted disturbing figures: Anambra at 24.9 per cent, Enugu at 16.7 per cent and Imo at 10.9 per cent. These are not marginal discrepancies or clerical errors; they are red flags of industrial-scale manipulation hiding in plain sight.

‘’Of particular note is the report’s finding that the Labour Party accounted for a disproportionate number of so-called “perfect scores” – suspiciously neat vote distributions that betray deliberate engineering rather than organic voter behaviour. Despite securing less than one-third of the national vote, LP strongholds generated more statistical alarm bells than those of any other party.

‘’This revelation completely demolishes the tired propaganda that Nigeria’s 2023 election was “rigged from Aso Rock.” What the data shows instead is something far more uncomfortable for the opposition: manipulation followed opportunity, not ideology, and some of the loudest accusers were themselves beneficiaries of the very practices they decried.’’

  • ‘Lagos APC ready for 2027’

    ‘Lagos APC ready for 2027’

•’No room for complacency’ •‘Party will monitor council chairmen’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State is putting its house in order ahead of future polls.

Cornelius Ojelabi, cleric and chairman of the chapter, said party members are ready for 2027, stressing that the leadership is girding its loins.

“We are looking inward to have the statistical data of our members through e-registration,” he said, stressing that it is the critical baseline for mobilisation with certainty.

Tragedy befell the party in 2023 when it lost the presidential election to the structureless Labour Party (LP) adopted by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as platform. Although the poll-confident Lagos APC won other layers of elections, its ego was momentarily deflated.

For the first time in his entire illustrious political career, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lost his home base to a political foe.

Having learned very instructive lessons from that inexplicable complacency, the chapter has vowed that the curious mistake will not be repeated in the Centre of Excellence.

The Lagos APC has been up and doing. The party is more cohesive than before. There is peace in the state executive committee of the party. There is harmony in the State Executive Council chaired by Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu. There is no friction between the party and the government. The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) is playing its gerontocratic roles. The tension between the governor and House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is fading. The friction among the state lawmakers is fizzling out.

Ahead of the March party congresses, Ojelabi has informed the vast members that the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) has decided that they should obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He said old members are expected to revalidate their party membership and new or those yet to be registered should avail themselves of the opportunity.

Ojelabi spoke with reporters at the party secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, Ikeja. With him were the vice chairman, Moshood Mayegun, Secretary, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, Publicity Secretary, Legal Adviser Folasade Bakare, Youth Leader Dr. Muritala Seriki, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, former Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Commissioner Dr. Lateef Ibirogba, and former council chairman, Abiodun Mafe.

The membership registration, which kicked off across the pre-existing 245 wards,is expected to end on January 31.

The chairman said: “The registration will be done at the ward level. Possession of PVC is critical to permanent registration. Without PVC, you register temporarily.”

Urging party members to actively participate in the democratic responsibility,Ojelabi said:”This is our country. We don’t have another country. Let us always remember our president, governors and other leaders in our prayers.”

Echoing the chairman, the Publicity Secretary  Seye Oladejo, said:”E-registration is imperative because our party has become larger as more members are coming in.”

To motivate members to participate, the party has introduced some incentives across the wards and local governments.

Ojelabi urged Nigerians to join the president in creating a peaceful atmosphere, saying:”If there is peace, our leaders will be able to tackle all the challenges.”

In particular, the party chairman called for support for President Tinubu in his bid to halt insecurity.

Ojelabi spoke on internal democracy, reconciliation in the chapter and efforts to foster accountability in the local government.

He dismissed insinuations that imposition of candidates for elections is rampant in Lagos APC, clarifying that loyalty, dedication and commitment are criteria for the choice of candidates.

Noting the grievances of some party members arising from local government nomination politics, the  chairman disclosed that reconciliation has been set up preparatory to the congresses.

He also noted the anxiety on the part of members who anticipate positions in the councils as secretaries, supervisors and other aides, assuring that the announcement would be made soon across the local governments.

Ojelabi hailed the healthy competitions among council chairmen for performance, saying that it is in the interest of Lagosians. He noted that many of them have justified the confidence reposed in them by the grassroots.

The chairman reminded the council chairmen that the directive that mandates them to live within the jurisdiction of the council was still in force.

Ojelabi said the chairmen would be closely monitored to ensure that they maximally deliver democratic dividends to Lagosians.

He added:”We have set up the Assessment Committee on senatorial basis that will exaamine them as they showcase their performance. Assessment will also be on yearly basis. This is aside from the oversight by the House of Assembly.”

  • e-Registration necessary political reform, says Lagos APC

e-Registration necessary political reform, says Lagos APC

Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) says the ongoing APC e-registration is not optional, cosmetic, or expendable.

It said it was a necessary political reform and a decisive statement of intent by a party determined to remain disciplined, progressive and electorally- dominant in a rapidly evolving democratic environment.

The exercise began on Monday and will run till the end of the month, providing opportunity for eligible members, old and new, to be captured in the party’s digital register.

Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo in a statement yesterday in Ogba said: ‘’Political parties that shy away from reform inevitably decay. APC has chosen the harder but nobler path-order over chaos, structure over arbitrariness and transparency over convenience. The e-registration is therefore a firm response to the demands of modern politics, data integrity and credible internal democracy.

‘’The exercise guarantees the sanctity and credibility of the party’s membership register. It decisively eliminates duplication, impersonation and shadow membership arrangements that undermine party cohesion. Every APC member must be known, verifiable and properly accounted for. This is how serious parties operate.’’

The statement said e-registration provided a level playing field for old and new members alike to have a clear, undisputed footnote in the party without fear or favour, adding that it dismantled gate-keeping structures and sent a strong message that no one owned APC beyond its constitution and collective will.

‘’More importantly, it shows-without ambiguity-that APC is deliberately and confidently accommodating the ever-growing multitude of Nigerians, who are joining the progressive fold on a daily basis. Ours is not a closed shop; it is a living, expanding political movement.

‘’Beyond administration, this exercise is the bedrock of internal democracy. Credible congresses, transparent primaries and legitimate leadership selection are impossible without a reliable digital register. Anyone uncomfortable with this reality must explain their preference for obscurity, manipulation and disorder. APC will not retreat into the politics of shadows.

‘’The e-registration is also a strategic mobilisation weapon. It speaks directly to youths, professionals and first-time participants, who demand efficiency and clarity. By embracing technology, APC once again proves that it is not trapped in the past, but fully aligned with the future of political organisation and engagement.’’

Oladejo said a data-driven membership system enhanced the party’s electoral readiness and governance capacity, noting that it strengthened grassroots coordination, sharpened campaign strategy and ensured the party remained in constant touch with its base.

According to the statement, ‘’a party that truly knows its members cannot be ambushed at the polls.

‘’At the end of the day, the outcome of this exercise will affirm APC as not only the most dominant political party in Nigeria, but also the party most likely to win massively at the polls, buoyed by the sheer strength of its membership and a verifiable structure across the country. This stands in stark contrast to the fairy-tale assumptions of the opposition, whose much-advertised strength remains the stuff political dreams-not electoral reality-are made of.

‘’We therefore urge-and indeed expect-all APC members and stakeholders to take full advantage of the e-registration window and participate promptly and responsibly. This is a collective obligation. Indifference is not neutrality; it is a disservice to the party and the progressive ideals we claim to uphold.

‘’APC will continue to reform, expand and lead. The e-registration exercise is a clear declaration that our party will not be hostage to inertia, fear, or retrogressive interests. We are building a stronger, fairer and future-ready political institution, and no amount of grumbling from the sidelines will derail this cause.’’

APC chieftain rallies support for Tinubu’s tax reform

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress, Prince Akintade Olayisade, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tax reform agenda, describing it as a bold step toward strengthening the nation’s economy and improving governance.

Speaking with reporters yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, he said the reforms were timely and aimed at tackling persistent fiscal challenges such as revenue leakages, weak tax administration and the country’s over reliance on oil revenue.

The Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Ekiti State said the initiative would help to broaden the tax base, improve transparency and create a more efficient and equitable tax system capable of driving sustainable development.

He noted that enhanced revenue generation would enable government to fund key sectors, including infrastructure, education, health care, security and social welfare, with positive effects on citizens’ living standards.

He said effective implementation of the reforms would help reduce economic inequality, encourage voluntary compliance and create a predictable tax environment that could attract local and foreign investments.

Olayisade, who expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, said the tax reform, if properly executed, would lay a solid foundation for long-term economic stability and inclusive growth.

He advised tax authorities to apply the reforms with professionalism and sensitivity, particularly in protecting small businesses, artisans and low-income earners.

He called on Nigerians to embrace the reforms and comply with tax regulations, noting that active civic participation was crucial to national development.
