PDP, SDP, AA members defect to AD in Ondo.

Ahead of saturday’s governorship election in Ondo state, scores of members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Action Alliance (AA) on Tuesday joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ondo state.

The defectors said the decision to dump their former parties was based on their conviction that only the AD government could rescue the state from the hopelessness currently being experienced by the people of the state.

They were received into the AD by the party’s governorship candidate in Saturday’s election, Chief Olusola Oke, at his campaign grand finale at the Democracy Park, Akure, the state capital.

The AA national secretary, Kenneth Eze, announced the collapsed of the party’s structure in the state into the AD.

The governorship candidate of the party, Yinka Orokoto, also declared that he had stepped down for the AD standard bearer.
Leading the PDP defectors was a two-term member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Akindele Adeniyi.

The former PDP members including the two-term lawmaker representing Akure North Constituency,Akindele Adeniyi explained the party had collapsed in the state, saying the only option for them was the AD.

The AD national chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi, called on people of the state to vote for the candidate of the party in the election.

Avazi said the AD government would serve the state, adding that only the party could ensure the desired change.

Oke, who warned against any attempt to manipulate the poll, however, said that the Resident Electoral Commissioner in state, Segun Agbaje, had given assurance that the wish of the people would prevail.

The AD candidate urged people of the state to come out to vote for him and his running mate, Hon. Gani Dauda, on the Election Day.

He said: “We’ve came to repair. We’re  also come to prevent further destruction of the good legacies of our former leaders.

“There are electric poles but no light. There are boreholes but no water. There are graduates but no jobs. This is unacceptable. It is on this note that that AD has come to restore the glory of the state.

“Our economy will be revived. AD government will eradicate poverty. We shall build on what Papa Ajasin, Chief Adefarati and Dr. Agagu built. Our mission is to create wealth and generate employment.”

Also the Iyaloja-General of Ondo state,Mrs Folasade Ojo urged her members to come out and vote massively for Oke on saturday.

She said market men and women would benefit more under the government of Olusola Oke,who she described as transparent and humble,if elected.

The Director- General (DG) Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation (OOCO) Bola Ilori warned the APC mafia boasting of rigging the coming election to desist in order to prevent anarchy in the state regarded as politically volatile.

Oke hails Ondo people, says he won’t disappoint them

The Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation has on behalf of the Candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) Chief Olusola Oke and his deputy, Alhaji Ganny Dauda thanked the people of Ondo State for their show of solidarity for trooping out en-mass to witness the presentation of the AD flags and official presentation to the people during the flag off rally in Akure on Monday.

The Director General of the Campaign Organisation, Mr Bola Ilori, while expressing Oke’s profound gratitude to the people for the unprecedented crowd that thronged the Democracy Park, Akure venue of the epoch making event assured the people that Chief Oke would not disappoint when he assumes office as Governor.

His words:” We want to sincerely thank you all good people of Ondo State for your love, affection and show of solidarity before during and after the flag off. We are simply overwhelmed that you all in your scores braved the hot sun to show solidarity for your son, Chief Olusola Oke.

“As he (Oke) has assured you, he will not fail you, he will deliver on his promises; under his watch, Ondo State will fare better. Rest assured that he will make life abundant for all and sundry.”

While reacting to the destruction of the billboards, banners and posters of Chief Oke by miscreants loyal to the Olusegun Mimiko faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moments after the Flag off ended, Ilori described the act as an admission of failure by the ruling Party.

He warned those behind the dastard act not to take the people of Ondo State for granted saying if they do not desist, they would meet their waterloo.

Also, reacting to the insinuations by the All Peoples Congress (APC) that the AD rented crowd to grace its flag off rally, the DG urged them to wait till November 26, 2016 when reality will dawn on them after losing the election.

“We will not dignify them with any response other than to say that the people of have chosen Olusola Oke and this they have demonstrated by turning out in an unprecedented crowd hitherto unknown in the annals of this state.

“This is why they are afraid and has made the Olusola Oke their sole manifesto instead of canvassing for votes from the people as the AD is vigorously doing in Ondo State,” he posited.

‘Hold Mimiko responsible for fresh breach of peace’

The Ondo State Chapter of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) has called on security agencies in the State to hold the State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko responsible for any fresh breach of peace in the State.

AD in a release in Akure signed by its Secretary, Dr Sola Agboola on Monday alleged that Governor has surreptitiously begun another round of the planned breach of public peace and security in his bid to cause confusion and create a semblance of insecurity.

He said: “This is to facilitate his plans for the postponement of the Governorship Election coming up on November 26.”It will be recalled that Governor Mimiko who had been away from the State to Abuja for upward of two weeks in his prosecution of his Court case against the removal of the name of his Candidate for the election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede from the ballot paper, came back at the weekend.

On Sunday, he  addressed his supporters at the International Event Centre (The Dome) where he amongst others urged them to brace up for another rounds of protests in the State to force the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the election thus buying them time with to prosecute their Court case.

“While we are not opposed to his getting justice at the Court, which we believe is his fundamental right, it is however an irony that a man saddled with the onerous responsibilities as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the State is now the very one behind sponsored mayhem in the very state he governs all because of politics.

“This is to threaten the peace and security he professes to uphold at all times when he took his Oath of Office.”

The AD therefore, called on the security agencies in the State to be abreast of this “grand plot” by the governor and be abreast of this latest attempt by Governor Mimiko to sacrifice the lives, properties and peace of Ondo State on the altar of politics.

  • Ondo Poll: Core Progressives endorse Abraham

Founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, who were formerly members of the party from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the Action Congress (AC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has adopted the gubernatorial aspiration of Dr. Olusegun Abraham as their candidate.

At the event held in Ile-Oluji, the former chairman of the ACN, Comrade Sola Iji said the decision to pick Olusegun Abraham came after an assessment and consideration of all the aspirants for seven months. He said the five cardinal parameters of consideration were acceptability, eligibility, sellability, sincerity, and integrity.

Iji said: “The unanimous decision to adopt the candidacy of Dr. Olusegun Abraham was finalized on March 30, this year, after confirming that he is the only candidate that excelled in all the parameters of consideration.”

“Among the gubernatorial aspirants contesting for the ticket of our party, it took us some time to come to the carefully thought-out decision to support the aspiration of Abraham to serve Ondo state.
“We have informed the party and also mandated them to identify with this decision.”
Another party leader and elder statesman, Pa Chief Adesola Adesoji, who is also a former Acting Chairman of the ACN aligned with the decision of the group, describing Abraham as the only aspirant with the experience and ability to truly transform the state.

He said: “We know him, we trust him, his humility, philanthropy and longstanding loyalty to progressive politics right from the AD days are added characteristics that Olusegun Abraham possesses over the other aspirants.

“We have not had anybody who is an international businessman at the helm of affairs in this state before. We now have the opportunity to have such in Olusegun Abraham”.

“Abraham had mastered the ability to generate sufficient revenue to break the yoke of poverty in this state and remove the dependence on Abuja revenue which seems insufficient at the moment.

Abraham said: “I thank you for choosing me. You’ve done this not just for me, but also for Ondo state. I appreciate the fact that you chose to identify with the mission to take Ondo to a truly prosperous level where no one will be left out in the experience of blessings from the fruits of practical governance.

“My mission is to transform Ondo from a third world state to a first class state worthy of emulation for other states.”

“Without your long-serving support, your loyalty, your consistency and dedication from the scratch, there will be nothing like the APC today.

“This informed your decision to stand by me, we, want a sellable candidate who is experienced enough, a renowned industrialist, who has the independent financial ability, to win the main election come November.”

The group is comprised of prominent party elders, former state Party chairmen, party faithful, past and present local government and ward excos, youth leaders, and staunch party leaders in all the 18 Local governments areas in the state.

They all promised to work for the candidacy of Abraham.
