‘Ambode ’ ll build on Fashola’s legacies’

Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Dr. Solomon Akin-Aina highlights the challenges that will confront the incoming Ambode Administration.

As the nation moves towards the 29th May inauguration date of the new administration, I wish to congratulate the Governor – elect of Lagos state, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode and his Deputy – Governor elect, Dr. Mrs. Idiat Adegbule on their landslide Victory at the just concluded 2015 Gubernatorial elections in Lagos State. Your victory is a victory for democracy and firm commitment of Lagosians to the change project championed by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from 1999 and sustained by the spirited Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola till date.

Ambode’s victory is predicated on the radical transformation and clearly articulated programmes of All Progressive Congress started 16 years ago by Governor Emeritus, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. With Ambode in charge of governance, Lagos state will start another race in its transformation drive and monumental change given its alignment with the federal government.

Prior to the election, the governor elect promised Lagosians laudable projects in his manifestoes that would impact positively on the people of Lagos state. The contents of APC manifestoes are achievable and its impact will be far reaching in the five divisions of Lagos state.

The governor- elect would ensure good governance through the implementation of people-oriented programmes designed to meet the expectations and yearnings of Lagosians. His administration would sustain the confidence of Lagosians in governance through the implementation of programmes that would enhance the socio-economic and political development of the state.

Lagos state is blessed with abundant natural and human resources necessary for effective economic growth and development, so Lagos state under progressive Governor – elect, Akinwumi Ambode and his able Deputy, Dr. Idiat Adegbule will bring about a responsible change in all aspects of governance.

In the area of Education, the Governor – elect will deliver on his promise to continue the current schools renovation programme state-wide to improve learning environment, upgrade libraries and create new ones into e- libraries in each LGA/LCDA in the state.

He would also establish IBILE meal scheme in all our public schools and pay bursary for students in higher institutions and introduce scholarship into our vocational and technical colleges with strategic emphasis to reposition all tertiary institutions in the state with reference to Lagos state University (LASU), Lagos state Polytechnic and Adeniran Ogunsanya College of education.

In the area of the youth, sports and employment, the incoming administration will fulfill its promise to establish Trust fund with a commitment of 25billion naira in four years by the government. According to the Governor- elect, one billion naira is to be accessed by each of the five divisions in the state for the next four years. This programme will create massive employment for our youths and jobless ones and take our youth off the street. Not only that, the incoming administration will perform its promises in the area of sporting activities with the provision of community sports centre.

I also commend the incoming administration desire to facilitate development of Local Governments in Lagos state and promote good governance at the local government level with massive infrastructural development, construction of roads, provision of health facilities, creation of conducive environment for sound learning, provision of security, rural development and urban renewal.

However, since the incoming administration is an offshoot of federal government led APC, I have confidence that Governor- elect, Akinwumi Ambode will use his influence and relationship with President-elect, Maj. General Muhammedu Buhari and members of the National Assembly to pass into law the 37 LCDAs in Lagos state. This will elevate the status of Lagos State and improve the economy condition of the people within the Local Government area.

In the same vein, I wish to commend the Asiwaju Loyalist Group of Ojo Federal Constituency (G30) for keeping faith with the party following the directives from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having worked tirelessly for the party at the just concluded elections. I congratulate Hon Lanre  Ogunyemi for his well deserved victory on re-election in Ojo constituency 2.

I also congratulate the great Jagaban of Borgu and the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his untiring strength and zeal which ensure APC victory in the Southwest and Nigeria at large. You are indeed a beacon of hope to the masses. Congratulations to Oronmiyan and the Symbol of our time, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola over the victory of APC in State of Osun, Lagos, south- west and Nigeria.

APC chieftain drums support for Ambode

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Hon. Dipo Okeyomi, has enjoined Lagos residents to support the incoming administration of the governor-elect, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, adding that the society would be better off if individuals support government efforts.

He urged privileged members of the society not to abandon the task of nation-building to the government alone.

The President and founder of Change Agent International, made the remark during while presenting empowerment items for residents of Ojokoro community in Ijaiye Local Government Area.

He gave a boost to tourism in the community when he provided visas to some of the residents to travel to Dubai. The beneficiaries were to understudy how the oil-rich area became a global tourist centre after which they would return to the country to open up the tourism potential in the community. The beneficiaries cut across tribal groups in the country.

“It is imperative for every resident of Lagos State to support the incoming administration of Mr. Ambode because the task of taking the state to the next level should not be left to the government alone. It is important that privileged members of the society should support the efforts of government by coming up with creative ideas that will bring development to their various communities. This is what we are doing in Ojokoro to improve the living standard of the residents.

“The beneficiaries are expected to serve as change agents when they return. They will retrain and broaden the minds of the people of the communities and fashion out ways of replicating some of the ideas they garnered in Dubai in the communities.

“The aim is to open up the community towards opportunities that are capable of enhancing the living standard of the residents. We have outlined different programmes that we would be carrying out from time to time to improve the lives of the people. The aspect of tourism is just one of these plans,” he said.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Hon. Okeyomi for the gesture, even as they promised not to abuse the opportunity.

“I am delighted to be among the beneficiaries. I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to travel outside the country to acquire knowledge that would improve my life and the community.

“The future of Ojokoro is certainly bright with somebody such as Hon. Okeyomi, Dora Ifeyinwa said.

    Ambode ‘ll ensure grassroots ‘growth’

Lafiaji Development Association President Babatunde Abozo, has assured Lagosians that Governor-elect Akinwunmi Ambode will ensure more development at the grassroots.

Abozo, who described Ambode as a grassroots man, said he would follow the footsteps of Governor Babatunde Fashola and former Governor Bola Tinubu.

“He would continue from there and develop more. He even has more experience when it comes to administrative issues because he has been a council treasurer. I knew him when he was the council treasurer of Mushin Local Government under Willy Akinlude’s administration. From there, he went to Ajeromi-Ifelodun before becoming the Accountant-General of the state and that is the heart of the work. So, the experience is there, he knows all the nooks and crannies of the state. With his experience and even as a young chap, he is younger, more dynamic, more vast in his grassroots affairs, I am sure Lagos State would have more transformation during his tenure,” he said.

Ambode, he said, is well known in Lafiaji on Lagos Island, adding that is his base.

“The place is called Talonyoju Junction. He is one of the forces in that junction. So, Lafiaji as a whole was for Ambode. We supported him for continuity and more development. Moreso, Lagos State Government has been supporting Lafiaji Development Association with our programmes because this is our state and we want more development in it.”

He urged Lagosians to be patient with the incoming administration, saying: “They should be a little bit patient. He would come in gradually. Ambode is a more managerial and social; he will definitely improve on what this outgoing administration has done.”

  • ‘Ambode won’t delay council polls’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has debunked allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the Governor-elect,  Akinwunmi Ambode, will delay council polls.

APC’s Publicity Secretary Joe Igbokwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday that the polls would be conducted at the scheduled time.

NAN reports that the Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, on Wednesday in a statement alleged that Ambode was planning to delay the yet-to-be conducted council elections.

The PDP also accused the State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of working with the APC to delay the polls.

It further accused the APC of deliberately frustrating the conduct of local council polls, which was due in October.

Igbokwe denied any connivance between the APC and LASIEC.

“We know of governors who didn’t conduct council elections for eight years and nothing happened to them but we are not like that.

“The elections will be conducted when the APC-led government is ready.

“This shouldn’t be an issue, the council polls have been conducted before in the state, so these allegations are untrue,” Igbokwe said.

  • APC chieftain greets Buhari, Ambode

    APC chieftain greets Buhari, Ambode

A Lagos-based chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Sola Oyedele has congratulated the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, his deputy, Mrs Risikat Adebule and other APC elected candidates on their victories in the just concluded general elections.

Their victory, she said, is a plus for democracy and the beginning of new things to come for Nigerians.

According to Mrs Oyedele, the newly elected APC members across the country will definitely bring back the lost glory of the country.

She urged the leaders to lead well to ensure that dividend of democracy for all.

According to Oyedele, the opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was defeated because of its corruption, non-transparent mode of administration, lack of focus, selfishness, greed, arrogance and lack of control.

She advised the party to embrace unity and avoid ethnicity and tribalism in the ongoing zoning of crucial national positions, for it not to disrupt the peace, harmony and love in the party.

Mrs Oyedele appealed to the party leaders to avoid wrong selection and imposition in the forthcoming local government election. She urged Lagos State Governor-elect, Ambode to continue to build on the legacy of the National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, which was sustained by His Excellency Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Oyedele also urged him and his deputy to work harder and increase the APC followership in the state.

She appealed to the President-Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari to tackle corruption which has become endemic in the country and has drawn Nigeria back among the comity of nations.

According to her, Buhari looks like the needed messiah that will redeem the country from the current hopelessness and drift.

She therefore urged Gen Buhari to appoint credible people into his cabinet so that governance can again have focus and Nigerians can again gain from selfless service of true patriots.

  • Youths urge Ambode to tackle restiveness

Youths urge Ambode to tackle restiveness

THE Coordinator of the Young Achievers Campaign Organisation of Nigeria (YACOON), Temitope Adewale, has urged the Lagos State Governor-elect, Akinwunmi Ambode, to tackle youth restiveness when he assumes office.

Adewale said the youth voted for the governor-elect because of his pledge to tackle unemployment and social decadence in the society.

The coordiantor added that youths were swayed by the campaign promises of the All Progressives Congress (APC ), adding that they voted for the party at all levels.

Adewale said youths take to crime because of idleness and the lack of an enduring programme to keep them busy. He said they often succumb to the temptation of being used as political thugs during elections.

He said some of the youths fronting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not do so on the conviction that the party would address their problems, but because of what they stood to benefit immediately.

Adewale said: “Many of the youths that portrayed themselves as Jimi Agbaje’s fans did not have permanent voter’s cards (PVC), talk less of getting out to vote; all they know how to do is to use the social media, read and learn politics on Linda Ikeji’s blog.

“On the other hand, the APC governorship candidate, now Governor-elect, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode had the most awkward fans, ranging from the artisans to the motor parks, Unions, students, professionals and all the way to the grassroots and this are the real electorates.

“The youths of Lagos decided, they believe in  Ambode and with Ambode they stood for victory. But, as much as the victory is worth celebrating, it is also most important to state that the hope and the expectations of the electorate must be met.”
