  • Masari inaugurates health promotion campaigns in Katsina

    Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari on Thursday inaugurated Health Promotion Outreach Campaign in Kurfi Local Government, decrying the alarming rate of child mortality rate in the state.

    He noted that about 900,000 children and mothers die annually in the country.

    The Health Promotion Outreach Programme is being sponsored by the state’s “Save One Million Lives Programme, supported by donor agencies and the state Ministry of health

    Masari, who described the National Child Mortality rate as unacceptable, further revealed that the aggregate data showed that the nation only made modest progress in the health sector in the past two decades despite the huge investment by the three levels of government.

    He said: “We have observed that solution focused on improved inputs has not worked in the past but the availability of many of the health inputs such as health facilities and trained health workers suggested that governance broadly defined impending or binding constraints.

    “This Save One Million Lives Programme provides us with an opportunity to broadly address governance and the management issues towards ensuring  greater focus on the result; increased accountability; improved measurement and the encouragement of innovation.”

  • IGP vows to smoke out bandits and kidnappers

    The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar arrived Katsina state on Wednesday to rally support for his newly launched “Operation Puff Adder” aimed at wiping out banditry and other insecurity challenges in the eight frontline local government areas of the state bordering Zamfara

    Speaking during a courtesy call on Governor Aminu Bello Masari who was represented by his Deputy, Manir Yakubu, the IGP reiterated the commitment of the Police to reduce banditry in the state to a barest minimum

    He said “the activities of the bandits and kidnappers in the state have become a source of concern to President Muhammadu Buhari who has directed us to clear the bandits through whatever means’’

    “Insecurity challenges in the state could be brought to a low level if we have the required cooperation from the public and the traditional institutions. We shall employ community policing strategy in implementing this presidential directive’’

    “We shall take the war to the camp of the bandits in the forest, to identify, destroy and occupy their camps. Clearing the bandits and prosecuting them is a task that must be done. As we succeeded in arresting those who kidnapped the Governor’s mother in-law recently so shall we arrest and prosecute these bandits’’

    Responding, the governor described the present security challenges in the state as ‘a period of anxiety and apprehension whereby a part of the state is taken over by bandits who strike, kill and maim the citizens at will’’

    The Governor further expressed shock that the kidnappers have taken over the highways in the state and harass citizens even at their homes and places of comforts

    He said “We appreciate the latest directive by the President which will put paid to the end of criminality in the state and the entire North West’’

    “With the synergy of operation in the entire North West, it will be all encompassing and will restrain the bandits in their strides. We have always assisted in funds and logistics and we do same again. We will do whatever it takes to protect live and property because security is the first responsibility of any government’’

    The IGP also visited Basari, one of the strategic camps the squad was deployed to interact with members of the squad as well as the traditional rulers. He also visited the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdumuminu Kabir Usman

     

     

  • Masari commends NYSC for promoting youth development and empowerment

    The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari has commended the National Youth Service Scheme for promoting youth development and empowerment in the country.

    The Governor who was represented by the state Chairman, NYSC Governing Board, Aminu Ibrahim Khalil, at the swearing-in-ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to the state, assured that government would continue to support NYSC which he described as viable channel for developing Nigerian youths to the next level

    Meanwhile the state Coordinator of the NYSC scheme, Hajia Ramatu Sanda has appealed to the Katsina state government to provide additional accommodation and potable water to its orientation camp in the state to address the social challenges facing the camp, its officials and corps members.

    Hajia Sanda also recalled that some camp officials stay outside the camp for lack of adequate hostel accommodation.

    She said: “Due to the ever-increasing corps population posted to Katsina state, every service year which needs proper handling and monitoring 24 hours, there is need for additional hotel blocks for camp officials to reside in the camp during orientation course programmes”.

    The NYSC Coordinator further disclosed that at the close of registration, 2, 200 corps members were registered for the twenty-one-day orientation course adding that 1,152 are males, while 1,048 are females.

    While appealing to the state government to also provide jeepee tanks to reticulate water to staff quarters, Mrs. Sanda lauded the host communities and collaborating agencies for their unalloyed supports in all ramifications.

    Declaring the orientation course open, Governor Masari urged the corps members to shun cultism, political violence and religious intolerance during and after their service year.

  • Buhari: I’ll leave legacy of free, fair elections

    President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said he would want to be remembered as a leader who kept his word that elections must be free, fair and credible.

    The President spoke in Daura when he hosted Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

    Masari visited the President to inform him of his victory in last Saturday’s governorship poll.

    The President praised Nigerians, who heeded to his pre-election appeals to cast their votes peacefully.

    According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari described last Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections as largely successful.

    He said: “I have maintained a position that elections must be free and fair and people have the right to make their choices and vote their consciences. I am happy they understood the message and did just that.

    ‘‘Power is a public trust that belongs to the people. Power is not by strength or wisdom but by Providence. Elected persons must be fair and just.

    “This is the legacy I want to leave behind. A leader must be fair and just. All leaders should strive to do that.”

    The governor, who was accompanied by officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party in the state, thanked the President and the party for the support which led to his decisive victory on March 9.

    He pledged to work for the good of the people of Katsina State, in line with the vision of the Next Level government at the centre.

  • Masari hails 2019 elections in the state as historic

    Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State on Saturday in Katsina described the ongoing 2019 General Elections in the state as historic having witnessed a massive turn out of voters and violent free campaigns and electioneering

    The Governor who made the declaration while receiving the visiting American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Syminton,said the state had remained peaceful and violent free during the elections even after the declaration of results so far

    He said “We ran a very historic campaigns in Katsina State and vigorously too in the 34 local government areas and throughout there was no violent incidence and no party supporter got killed”

    “We have a responsibility and have taken oath as a government to be fair and just to all manner of people and no matter how good we are, we have 8 years to spend here ”

    Masari further assured his political opponent of a level playing field especially as the state prepared for the Governorship election next Saturday.

    The US Ambassador had earlier told the Governor that he was in the state as part of his Government’s effort aimed at promoting a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria .He reiterated his earlier statement that the US has no candidate in the elections

    The Ambassador further urged security agencies and INEC to ensure hitch free elections next Saturday and that the errors discovered in the Presidential and National Assembly elections are corrected this time around

    He said “We have never taken sides in Nigeria’s Elections except that we have taken side with peace. Elections come and go but our nation’s must remain”

  • 2019: Katsina Women pray against vote buying, insecurity

    Ahead of the 2019 General Elections which begins Saturday February 16, Women in Katsina State on Tuesday trooped out in the numbers to the NYSC Arena by the Arts and Craft village in Katsina to pray against electoral devices including vote buying, insecurity, insurgency, and to usher in peaceful election and co-existence in the state and Nigeria

    The Commissioner For Women Affairs, Dr Badyya Mashi whose Ministry organized the event said It has become necessary for the state and the country to seek the face of God in the march towards the impending elections and ensure that the country march forward as one progressive united entity, after the elections

    She condemned the practicing of vote buying and selling and urged the women to shun such evil electoral practice saying that every true Muslim that remains God fearing knows that vote buying and selling is a sin against God and Humanity

    She said ’’Whenever you are approached or called upon you should shun vote buying and selling, every one that attend this prayer meeting should take the message home for those who are not here’’

    ‘’Those approaching you with money for vote represents evil and do not wish our country well so I charge you in the name of God to reject them with a clean conscience and self denial, lets vote for continuity and wellbeing of this nation under god’s watch.

    Governor Aminu Bello Masari who attended the event as a special guest urged the women to protect their votes, shun vote buying and selling and ensure that they re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday.

    The Women Commissioner also appealed to Mothers to check the movements and activities of their children on Election Day, to ensure they were not used to perpetuate violence and thuggery. The Prayer event was also attended by notable Islamic Clerics including Sheik Labaran Imam Salauwa, Dayyabu Inam; others were Hajia Zanmzam Hadi Balarabe and Malama Lami Jibia

  • North West APC to increase Buhari’s vote haul

    A The North West Chapter of the All progressive Congress (APC) has promised to increase President Muhammadu Buhari’s vote haul to 12m from the previous 7.5m vote the area gave him during the 2015 general elections.

    The chapter spoke ahead of the APC Presidential Campaign Mega rally on Thursday February 14th in Katsina.

    Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari who was represented by the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shittu Shittu made the above disclosure during the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), empowerment program held at the old Government House, where no fewer than 1,000 indegenes were empowered with equipment and capitals to establish small businesses.

    He said that the region would not be lagging in expectations to deliver, and has since embarked on aggressive campaigns at all levels to ensure victory for the party. He observed that with current crisis rocking the party in Zamfara and parts of Sokoto and Kano the party, has no choice than work hard to ensure a sweeping victory in the zone

    Meanwhile, additional one thousand people who are spread across the state were also given various equipment and items to begin small scale enterprises.

    The empowerment which began with people in the Katsina senatorial zone of the state is expected to be extended to people in Funtua and Daura zones during the week.

    The Katsina empowerment exercise saw some beneficiaries going home with ten thousand naira each (N10, 000) while some were given various equipment including sewing machines, pumping machines and grinding machines.

    The beneficiaries, who were both men and women, were expected to use the equipment to start their business entrepreneurs and become fully engaged instead of depending on others for survival.

    An elder in the state and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abba Ali, who spoke at the occasion, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of whatever they were given.

    The NPA Managing Director, Hajiya Hadiza Usman who was represented at the occasion by Mallam Musa Abubakar, said the empowerment was part of efforts to augment President Muhammadu Buhari’s government steps at creating jobs for Nigerians, also to develop Katsina state,

    Earlier the NPA has installed 282 Solar lights  for  282 Almajiri schools spread across the thirty four local government areas of the state and distributed 500  chairs to primary schools   and given point of lay chicken to women in the state, among others.

  • Masari performs ground breaking of 200 housing units in Katsina

    The Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, on Saturday in Katsina performed the ground breaking ceremony of 200 housing units for workers sponsored by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in Katsina state.

    The 200 units are part of ongoing housing projects for Nigerian workers who are contributors to the National Housing Fund (NHF), under the National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme (NAHDEP).

    Speaking during ground breaking ceremony at Kambarwa, in Batagarawa council area, Managing Director of FMBN, Arch. Ahmed Dangiwa said the housing units would be in the mix of three, two and one bedroom semi-detached bungalows and block of flats.

    Dangiwa said the houses when completed would be in the selling range of between N3.1 million to N8.3 million.

    He however said that the Katsina project is first phase of the NAHDEP which is to be run as a pilot to deliver 1,400 housing units across the six geopolitical zones in the country.

    He said each zone would have 200 houses with 100 units in two selected states, but that Katsina was lucky to be one of those states picked in the region largely due to its commitment to the NHF scheme.

    The FMBN boss also said the bank had committed over N 1.9 billion through its estate development loan (EDL) to construct 492 housing units located in estates across the state through a number of selected developers.

    Also speaking, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said his government was planning to construct hundreds of housing units in the seven old local governments in the state, including Malumfashi, Mani, Kankia, Funuta, and Katsina.

    Masari said the state had in collaboration with some stakeholders, constructed about 500 housing units with an additional touch to the houses to suit the culture and religion of people in the state.

    He commended the FMBN, labour and other trade unions that had committed to providing affordable housing for workers, even as he assured of government’s support to ensure success of the project.

    The event also saw the distribution of cheques in the sum of N266.5 million to 318 beneficiaries under the FMBN Home Renovation Loan.

    The amount is in addition to N1.2 billion already advanced to 1,854 beneficiaries under the same product in the state.

  • Masari tasks NYSC members on post camp training, skill Acquisition

    The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari has charged Youth corpers that are posted in the state to embrace skill acquisition, in other to be self-reliant and financially independent adding that was the reason why the state government established the Youth Craft Village side by side the orientation camp

    He said “As corps members the NYSC has deemed if feet to give you in-camps trainings on various skills, through the Skill acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. For the post camp training the State Government has Youth Craft village located inside the premises which can compete  with other centers in Africa’’

    The Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on Youth Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Khalil Aminu, made the call in Katsina on Wednesday while declaring closed, the batch C stream 2, 2018 orientation course for Corps members deployed to the state, also implored the corpse members to accept their postings in good faith assuring them of an exciting and fulfilling service year wherever they may be posted to serve in the state. He further urged them to leave lasting legacies wherever they were posted to serve.

    While encouraging them to interact with their host communities, the Governor also advised them to learn their culture and strive to contribute to their development and growth

    Earlier in her introductory address at the occasion, the state NYSC Coordinator, Hajia Ramatu Sanda, commended the state government for their continued financial and moral support and urged the corps members to continue to imbibe the virtue of honesty, humility and respect for the culture of their host communities

    She charged them to be law abiding and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of the NYSC Scheme. She further appealed to employers to accept corps members in order to enable them benefit from their abundant knowledge and skills

    She disclosed that over 6ooo Corps Members have passed through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme since inception

  • Masari boosts KSTA with 25 newly acquired buses

    The Katsina state Governor, Aminu Bello Masari has Commissioned 25 newly acquired buses for the Katsina State Transport Authority, KSTA, as part of measures aimed at boosting the fleet of the agency and alleviate the sufferings experienced by the people in the transportation of goods and services

    The 25 buses which comprises of 10 buses with 30-seater capacity and 15 with 14 seater capacity all valued at N1.350bn,were allocated to inter, intra, and international shuttle services

    Governor Masari warned the management of the transport company against corrupt practices and dereliction of duty, which he pointed out, were responsible for the collapsed of their services early 1992 during the Government of the former Military ruler in the state, Col. Yahaya Madaki

    He said ’’This company is expected to provide transport services to the lowest of the low and should not be allowed to run down by mismanagement and corruption. The cardinal revenue sharing arrangement whereby one third of the revenue is dedicated to an account, one third to salary and allowances and the remainder of one third to procurement of one new vehicle should strictly be maintained’’

    He further tasked the management of the company to reward integrity, and that in three months there must not be remnant of unserviceable vehicles, no engagement in try cycle business or venture into vehicle hiring services.

    He said ’’the transport is responsible for hiring and firing staff and staff discipline while their services should be targeted at the common masses and students of the state’’

    Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Works, housing and transport, Engineer Dan Dagoro said the vehicles will operate at a reduced fair to alleviate the poor, recalling that about N196m has been spent by government so far in subsidizing transport costs and ensure that costs of transport charges by the company are almost a 50% reduction from what obtained elsewhere

    He said ’’this is a remarkable achievement by the present administration in relieving Katsina people the burden of transportation. It is the habit and character of the Governor to always address the people’s concern’’
