FULL TEXT: Tinubu’s speech at Anambra grand reception

    1. Protocols. Anambra Kwenu! Anambra Kwenu!! Igbo Kwezuenu!!!
    2. About 30 months ago, I stood at this Venue as Candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In less than two years since assumption of office as your president, I am delighted to be back on a state visit and to commission some legacy projects by your state government. I come as a friend to the great people of Anambra and the Southeast. I salute your enterprise, your innovation, and your unwavering commitment to progress. Anambra has long stood as a beacon of commerce, intellect, and cultural strength — a pride not only to the Southeast but to Nigeria as a whole.
    3. My visit today bears bold testament to parts of my speech during my campaign here. I recall vividly telling you then that: “Charles Soludo, your son…is still my friend. I salute his vision. He is a brilliant man. He has the brain. He is a thinker. He knows the way. We will work together inclusively. When I become the president, Soludo will be one of those advisors who will bring prosperity back to you”. From what I have seen and heard, it is evident that a solid foundation is being laid, and Anambra is indeed on the rise. Charles Soludo has been my friend since 2003, and I can also confirm that we are working together for a better Anambra and a better Nigeria.
    4. I have just commissioned two landmark projects—the Solution Fun City and the Government House mini-city as part of the initial steps on the path towards your audacious vision of Anambra as African-Dubai-Taiwan-Silicon Valley (ADTS). Together with the massive infrastructural transformation and human capital development, these are bold statements of vision and what leadership can achieve in such a short time. A few years ago, Dubai was largely a desert. Today, it is a global hub, because one man dared to dream. I remember when Soludo wanted to consolidate the Nigerian banks, and many said it was impossible. It was done and Nigeria became better for it. I also recall when we dared to tame the Atlantic Ocean, and many naysayers doubted it. But we made it happen. Anambra has huge potential and with Soludo, we can all work together to fast-track the vision.
    5. Let me commend the Government of Anambra State for its proactive efforts in improving security in the state. I wish to assure you that the Federal Government will continue to partner with the State and the Southeast to secure our people and their future.
    6. I have taken serious note of the various challenges facing the state and your request for assistance and partnership: (MR PRESIDENT MAY, AT HIS DISCRETION RESPOND TO THE UNDERLISTED SPECIFIC REQUESTS…)
    • Anambra as the gully erosion capital of the world, with one-third of the land mass under serious threat. In addition, about 8 local governments are constantly under the threat of annual flooding. Request for state of emergency on erosion threatening to submerge many communities…
    • Anambra and southeast have huge gas deposits but largely bypassed by the national gas masterplan. Urgent attention to enable us to unlock the potential for gas powered power plants
    • Abandoned federal road project that links Anambra through Kogi – this can become the fastest gateway between Abuja and Anambra/Southeast/South South
    • Making Onitsha River port (commissioned in 1982 by the Shagari Administration) to be operational. Dredging the Niger to allow badges from Onne port into the river port is a very low hanging fruit— and will almost be a revolution for our people. Only Asiwaju can break this 43-year-old jinx.
    • Anambra completely bypassed by the Rail masterplan???
    • Urgent attention to many federal roads abandoned in Anambra for
    • several years. Currently Anambra has spent about N150 billion on federal roads over the past three years…

We will continue to partner with your state to deliver shared prosperity to Ndi Anambra and all Nigerians.

    1. As your president, it gives me great pleasure to assure you all that the state of the nation is strong and getting stronger by the day under our Renewed Hope Agenda. We met a near insolvent public finance, decades-old monster of unsustainable multiple subsidies, chaotic and debilitating forex regime, etc. Like we tamed the Atlantic in Lagos, many of these monsters have been wrestled down: petroleum and forex subsidies have been tamed; macroeconomic stability has returned within predictable bounds; tax reforms are on the way; etc. These reforms are difficult, yes, but inevitable. Everyone had long recognized their imperatives. Courage and our collective action were required to confront them so as to lay a strong foundation for a more stable, prosperous and inclusive economy. Already, we are seeing renewed investor confidence, expanding opportunities, and targeted support for small businesses, especially in the tech and manufacturing sectors where Anambra is already excelling. Agriculture is receiving massive attention, and the results are beginning to show.
    2. We have renegotiated and passed into law a new minimum wage as part of our effort to cushion the effect of these reforms on the working class. I am particularly happy that the Government of Anambra State has fully implemented the new minimum wage and I understand that you are paying above the National minimum.
    3. We are working to build critical infrastructure — roads, rail, and power — and ensure that every corner of Nigeria, including Anambra, feels the impact of governance that works. The Presidential Power Initiative and the ongoing digital economy drive will open more doors for the resourceful people of this State.
      **Other reforms worth highlighting *****
    4. We continue to plead with Nigerians for their patience and understanding. We call on all patriots and progressives to rise up and continue to work hard everyday for the greatness of our dear country. We have no other country but Nigeria. We must make it great as the pride of the black race.
    5. Before I conclude, let me thank the government and the great people of Anambra State for your warm hospitality. In particular, I feel deeply honoured by the conferment of a Chieftaincy title by all the traditional rulers of Anambra State on behalf of the State. In 2005, the traditional ruler of Awka, HRH Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu II) conferred on me the title of OMENIFE AWKA. To now have ALL the traditional rulers of Anambra conferring another title on me today is not only historic but one which I will greatly treasure for the rest of my life. Thank you to the traditional rulers. Thank you, Ndi Anambra. A lot of my friends are from Anambra state, and I have seen many of them today. Going forward, we are not just friends: I am now a bona fide son of the soil— one of you, your own son! Maybe my friend and your governor, Charles Soludo, should find me a plot of land for my retirement home, after service.

It is well with Anambra State!

    It is well with Nigeria!!

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He described Anyaoku as a “great Nigerian and a patriotic man with commitment to values and nation building”.

According to him, Anyaoku should be commended for promoting democracy, good governance and world peace in the course of his service.

“We must invest in education as it is the greatest weapon against poverty. We are doing so believing we have leaders like Emeka Anyaoku.

“Here is a man who helped tremendously to bring about constitutional democracy, freedom and stability.

“His patriotism is boundless. His commitment to values and nation building is invaluable. I’m glad he is alive.

“I’m glad my friend, Gov. Charles Soludo, his team and many of you are here to honor him, immortalise him and ensure he remains a fulcrum of our learning and intellectual development and diplomacy,” he said.

The president urged the management of the institution to ensure adequate maintenance of the building and its facilities.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing the education sector.

He said that significant resources had consistently been allocated, especially toward tertiary education.

“Let me divert attention to the Governing Council and Management of the university.

“In recent times, we have had cause to intervene in the affairs of this university and a few others, to arrest what could be described as administrative rascalities.

“My government is committing lots of resources to the education sector and shall not allow wrong use of autonomy to derail us,” he said.

Earlier, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of NAU, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, expressed gratitude for the President’s visit to the university.

“This facility is built by contributions from friends of Anyaoku to immortalise and internalise his diplomatic activities.

“We will ensure the efficient operation of the institute to achieve its primary goal of equipping prospective students with globally recognised principles of peace and conflict resolution.

The Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy was established to offer degree and certificate programmes in International Relations, Diplomacy, and Peace and Conflict Resolution. (NAN)

18-year-old apprentice allegedly impregnates nine girls, master’s daughter

The Anambra state commissioner for women and social welfare, Ify Obinabo, has raised the alarm over an 18-year-old apprentice who allegedly impregnated 10 girls, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl, within five months.

According to Obinabo in a video, the boy was sent to learn a trade but was dismissed from his apprenticeship after impregnating two girls.

He then returned to his village, where he impregnated eight more girls.

Obinabo has called on the public for advice on how to address the issue, questioning whether the boy’s behaviour is a spiritual matter.

She said, “I want advice from the public because this one is beyond my capacity.

“This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18 and three months of apprenticeship, and he impregnated his master’s daughter and his salesgirl. He was sent packing. Two months after that, he impregnated eight other girls in the village. This matter is beyond me, the reason I want the public to help me come up with a solution. Is it spiritual?”

The boy’s mother reportedly sought help from Obinabo, expressing worry about the situation.

According to her, the mother said, “‘Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump, please, I need help.’”

The boy allegedly told Obinabo that he convinces the girls by telling them he loves them and plans to marry them once he acquires wealth.

“I asked the boy what he uses in luring the girls to bed, but he told me he always tells them that he loves them and would like to marry them any time he acquires wealth.

“This problem is beyond me because of the boy’s age and the number of pregnant girls involved; that’s why I need help to solve it”, she added.

Labour Party crisis deepens as faction holds parallel governorship primary in Anambra

The internal crisis within the Labour Party has further intensified in Anambra State as a faction of the party conducted a parallel governorship primary on Thursday, declaring Mr. Jude Umennajiego as its candidate.

Umennajiego emerged winner with 180 votes, defeating John Nwosu who polled 69 votes, according to Sunday Okereke, chairman of the faction’s electoral committee.

This development comes weeks after the party had earlier held a governorship primary at Finohotels, where former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu, was declared winner.

John Nwosu had earlier withdrawn from the initial race, citing irregularities in the delegate list and referencing a Supreme Court judgement as part of his concerns.

Reacting to the latest development, Dr. Moghalu dismissed the parallel exercise, describing those behind it as “people without direction.”

He emphasised that he had already received a certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), affirming his candidacy.

“What God has given to me, nobody can take it. What they’re doing is an impossibility “

The publicity secretary, Theo Egbe, told The Nation that he only advised the party to tarry awhile before conducting any primary election based on the Supreme court judgement.

“There’s nothing wrong in waiting, no matter whatever they do now, the Supreme court judgement must prevail” Egbe said

For the state chairman of the party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, said what the publicity secretary said was his personal opinion, adding that the party did not discuss it.

“We have done our primary election for the November 8 governorship and we are waiting the decision of the national body of the LP” Emeh said

  • Three years of joy, pain, agony in Anambra

Three years of joy, pain, agony in Anambra

Anambra State has been in celebration mood since March 17, the day the governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s government turned three years. He was sworn-in, in 2022.
During that event, something terrible happened, the slapping saga between the former beauty Queen, Ambassador, Bianca Ojukwu and the former First Lady in the state, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano. It was a dangerous precedence. Both ladies had moved on since then with their lives, but has it been the same with the state? The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) has done his best, but some believe his best is not near the Dubai -Taiwan he promised them. SOUTHEAST BUREAU CHIEF, Nwanosike Onu, writes.

Prof Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state came into governance with Dubai-Taiwan mantra and he is gradually working the talk.

He was sworn in on March 17,2022 when the administration of then henchman, Chief Willie Obiano elapsed

To some people in Anambra, it has been three years of joy and laughter, but to the opposition, the period has been that of pain and agony

From what is on ground, Soludo is trying his best, but not enough to take the state to that Eldorado. But there’s still time and hope.

However, what the people lack in this state is patience, they want things done in lightening speed

Some of the things the past administrations failed to get right, Soludo’s has taken his transformation battle to them. Solving the issue of water in every nook and cranny, is one of such, not borehole

Another unique one, is the railway that is coming as a major component of the state’s transportation master plan. If he succeeds, it’s another masterstroke

According to him, it will connect Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia, and Awka, with spurs to additional towns. Unfulfilled promises by politicians are many

Former Governor, Senator Chris Ngige, left a legacy of solid roads which are still standing after 22 years, Peter Obi renovated schools, while Obiano built the Airport and gigantic 12,000 capacity International Conference Centre, ICC.

Similarly, Soludo’s administration, from what political observers are witnessing, is working towards surpassing others, except Obiano.

The dualization project of the magnificent route from Amawbia to Agulu via Ekwulobia, Uga up to the Imo State border and to Nnobi is the knockout punch.

For the commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, “Mr. Governor is unfazed by the share size of projects.  As far as Soludo is concerned, nothing can impede the growth of Anambra State”

Soludo’s determination in making Anambra a safe heaven in terms of infrastructure is unprecedented. But some of these projects are second term campaign tools. Others before him did same.

The gigantic abandoned government house project for the past 30 years and the Awka Fun-City project, have shown that with resources, nothing is impossible in government

Under Soludo’s  leadership, Anambra state is progressing in several areas, including road construction, youth empowerment, cleaner cities, landmark projects, environmental sustainability, and budgetary excellence. These are part of the joy in the state

Another turning point is the turning  of Okpoko slum into a habitable environment and building modern general hospital for the people among others.

The projects have already added to his arrogance. Soludo is seen by many of his subjects as “Mr know all”, the reason, he doesn’t listen to advice

The former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor has put a lot of things in place for eyes to see. He is eye marking projects.

On the painful aspect of his administration , he has allowed his ego to rubbish the legacy he is already building, by ridding the state of too much touts and making the roads safe again

The unleashing of Ndi Aka Odo ( pestle carriers) on our ways as task collectors has brought pains to the masses.

The group of boys has unleashed mayhem to the residents. Those in hospitals who are not sure of recovering their legs and hands are too many to praise his government.

A social critic, Anselm Udolisa, told The Nation that Soludo’s attitude of looking of not responding to complaints by those who voted him into office means tacit approval to the evil deeds of the men.

He said,” how can you allow such a barbaric act in this century when the people are already clapping for you, what it means is that you don’t value human life.

“They have detention camps everywhere. Once you’re not in the good books of the Governor, they will go after you. I don’t think their work is just clearing the roads and collecting taxes for Soludo, I believe they’re the ones the Governor has prepared for his second term ” Udolisa said

The taxes petty traders pay in Anambra state have added to the pains in their different homes. The pains are too numerous to count.

Before the introduction of Operation Udo Ga Achi and Agunechemba security outfits, the state was tagged the worst in terms of insecurity. People were missing with reckless abandon.

It became a major campaign tool for opposition politicians against the Governor. The situation was horrifying. The former commissioner of Police in the state, Nnaghe Obono Itam did not help matters either.

Soludo responded by putting some laws to tame the criminal activities.

Hear the Informatiin commissioner, Dr Law Mefor, “he did not only target  the criminals but also those who enable them, such as fake Ndi-dibia and false prophets, Governor Soludo is giving the entire nation the lesson it needs to fight insecurity.

“In addition to insisting that they be put through forensic testing, he has demystified the Okeite magic pot phenomenon” Mefor said

Despite the measures, the agony the residents went through are still hunting the administration

The citizens were kidnapped and killed in their numbers on daily basis, including high profile ones.

Three state House of Assembly members lost their lives in the hands of the gunmen. To say the least, the Soludo administration was christened ” government of bloodshed “

For Hon Frederick Nwafor, ” as we assess his three years in office, his administration will be remembered not for its achievements but for the countless lives lost under his watch—deaths that were preventable had he prioritized his core duty: protecting lives and property.

“Soludo’s refusal to utilize the  two billion Naira security vote and has left Anambra vulnerable, fueling a wave of unchecked violence and abductions.

The tragic case of Ifeoma Onyekwelu, the female banker from Agulu brutally murdered after ransom was paid, remains a painful reminder of the governor’s inaction.

“Likewise, the loss of lawmakers Hon. Okey dị Okay and Hon. Justice Azuka who is yet to get justice, the SuperSport cameramen murdered in Ihiala, and the heartbreaking deaths of Obinna Okwuosa, the only child of Dr. Okwuosa, and Godswill Amobi from Ogidi—all young, promising lives cut short due to Soludo’s failed leadership.

“Anambra State under Soludo has become synonymous with bloodshed and despair. Families continue to grieve as insecurity robs them of their loved ones.

“His administration has imposed harsh and inhumane taxation on traders while failing to provide them with the most basic security. Mondays are still under lock and key despite numerous Executive Orders.

“For now, your legacy is marked by the blood of innocent citizens. Congratulations, Governor Soludo—your eloquence may be undeniable, but your leadership has failed Anambra” Okafor said

Read Also: BREAKING: Soludo picks APGA ticket for Anambra Gov poll

Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, told The Nation the his boss is not only a Governor with positive vibes in Anambra state, but a game changer.

    “His five-pillar agenda plan, security, infrastructure, human capital, governance, environment, isn’t a dream;

” it is a juggernaut, outpacing 33 years of state history. Water flows in cities again, a befitting Government House stands after 34 years jinx, and the Solution Fun City promises West Africa’s grandest entertainment world.

“So, Governor Soludo is not here to play games but to change the game of governance for good.

“Anambra is now a massive construction site, a classroom, a clinic, a tech hub, and more, all at once.

“The man who once stacked $63 billion in reserves now stacks victories; proving lean times bow to bold minds.

“This is a legacy in overdrive, a governor who has turned scarcity into a supernova of progress. Indeed, the Solution is Here” Aburime said

Governance is not a team party. The Professor of Economist has done well, at least for now for ndi Anambra, ut his greatest opposition are those he has injured their minds.

His administration has been that of a mixed bag of joy, pain and agony. He has to run all inclusive administration.

Though they pride his party, APGA as a movement in Anambra state, but what has a beginning must have an end. However, the opposition in the state are not that strong to give him a chase

Some of his party members are not happy, the opposition are still pushing, the head of Catholic Church i n the state is injured by his government and most importantly, the revered Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe roars like a wounded lion, among others.

The Governor is loved by his associates and loyalists, but his enemies are many as November 8 approaches.
