    • Urges Yilwatda to introduce transparent harmonisation

The Delta North All Progressives Congress (APC) Coalition for Equity has called on the national leadership to ensure fair and inclusive integration of founding members in Delta State.

The call was made in a communiqué issued after the Coalition’s Expanded General Stakeholders Meeting held yesterday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of the Coalition, Barrister Alex Ikpeazu, and the Secretary General, Hon. Kemmer B. Emina.

The meeting was attended by delegates and representatives from all nine local government areas of the Delta North Senatorial District.

In the statement, the Coalition expressed concern over what it described as the growing marginalisation of long-standing and foundational APC members in the state following recent political developments.

The group acknowledged and welcomed the defection of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, describing it as a development that strengthens the party.

However, it warned that party unity must be built on fairness and recognition of loyalty.

According to the Coalition, most government appointments and key decision-making positions are currently dominated by the Governor’s former PDP political structure, leaving out many APC members who remained loyal during the party’s difficult years.

“These foundational members stood by the APC through intimidation, repeated electoral losses, and political isolation,” the communiqué said, adding that the current situation has caused widespread dissatisfaction at the grassroots level.

The group noted that such exclusion contradicts the principles of inclusiveness, equity, and reward for loyalty promoted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Coalition stressed the need for urgent corrective measures to prevent internal discontent and strengthen party unity in the state.

As part of its demands, the Coalition called on the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to introduce a transparent harmonisation framework that will ensure: fair and meaningful inclusion of foundational APC members in government appointments, boards, and agencies; balanced integration of the Governor’s political structure with the existing APC party machinery in Delta State.

The coalition also demanded zoning of the next APC State Chairmanship position to the Delta North Senatorial District, to be occupied by a long-standing APC member, citing the fact that Delta South and Delta Central had produced past and current state chairmen; development of a sustainable party structure based on unity, equity, inclusiveness, and shared ownership.

It further demanded formal involvement of the Delta North APC Coalition for Equity in discussions and decisions affecting appointments and party restructuring in the Delta North.

The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to the success of the APC in Delta State and Nigeria at large but insisted that lasting stability and electoral success could only be achieved through fairness, mutual respect, and inclusive governance.

Ibrahim Obanikoro launches online APC membership drive

A former House of Representatives member, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, has launched a massive online campaign urging Lagosians who have yet to register with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to do so.

The initiative follows APC’s commencement of online membership registration nationwide on Monday.

According to the party, eligibility for registration requires possession of a National Identification Number (NIN) and reaching the age of 18.

In a series of online messages and engagements, the former lawmaker described the registration exercise as a timely opportunity for residents, particularly young people, to participate more actively in the political process and contribute to the future direction of Lagos State and the country at large.

He commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that its policies and reforms are placing Nigeria in a “strong and vantage position” for sustainable national development.

Obanikoro also praised the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for what he described as purposeful and hardworking leadership that continues to drive growth and development in the state.

“The APC-led government at the federal level is laying solid foundations for national progress, while Lagos State remains a model of effective governance under Governor Sanwo-Olu,” he said.

Obanikoro encouraged all eligible Lagosians, especially the youth, to seize the opportunity presented by the online registration exercise and formally identify with the ruling party.

“This is the time for young Lagosians to step forward, register, and be part of the process of building the future they desire,” he added.

The APC’s online registration initiative is expected to expand the party’s membership base and enhance inclusion, particularly among tech-savvy young Nigerians across the country.

  • Avoid divisive politics, align with Tinubu, APC forum advises Muftwang

Avoid divisive politics, align with Tinubu, APC forum advises Muftwang

The North Central All Progressives Congress (NC APC) Forum has called on Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang to jettison divisive political tendencies and align his administration with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, following his recent defection to the ruling party.

The Forum said Muftwang’s entry into the APC must signal a clear break from policies and influences that promote ethnic or religious division, urging him to adopt inclusive governance and work closely with the Federal Government to address Plateau State’s security and development challenges.

The Forum, in a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, said the admonition had become imperative as Governor Caleb Muftwang’s defection provides a fresh opportunity for him to reposition his administration on the principles of unity, fairness and development, while deliberately distancing himself from individuals whose actions, it said, had previously fuelled division in the state.

Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council during the 2023 general election, noted that the Forum, which comprises APC stakeholders from the six North Central states, is well placed to offer such advice, having actively championed Muftwang’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the APC.

He added that the Forum believed the governor’s leadership capacity would be better harnessed within the ruling party, stressing that his defection was in the overall interest of Plateau State and the North Central region.

The Forum noted that during Muftwang’s time in the PDP, some officials around his administration were perceived to be advancing narrow interests that undermined cohesion in the state.

It said one of the motivations behind its campaign for his defection was to see him operate within a political environment that discourages such tendencies.

It urged the governor to be deliberate in selecting his team and to work only with individuals genuinely committed to the development and stability of Plateau State.

The APC group also called on Muftwang to govern as a leader for all citizens of the state, stressing that no community or group should feel excluded from governance or denied access to the dividends of democracy.

On security, the Forum advised the governor to strengthen cooperation with President Tinubu and relevant federal security agencies, noting that closer alignment with the centre would improve coordination and response to the security challenges confronting Plateau State.

It said working closely with the President would also enable the state to benefit more effectively from federal interventions and development programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Beyond policy direction, the Forum urged Muftwang to assert firm control over his administration and resist undue influence from political godfathers or individuals seeking to exert control over government decisions.

It said the governor’s defection to the APC should mark a turning point that allows him to govern with confidence and independence, free from external pressures that could undermine service delivery.

The Forum disclosed that it faced intimidation and resistance while campaigning for Muftwang’s defection, particularly from individuals who feared that his move would affect their political ambitions. Despite this, it said it remained resolute because of its confidence in the governor’s leadership qualities.

It expressed optimism that Muftwang’s presence in the APC would strengthen the party in Plateau State and contribute significantly to its electoral fortunes in the North Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Forum recalled that it was among the first political groups to endorse President Tinubu for a second term, adding that its support for Muftwang’s defection was also informed by its commitment to consolidating APC support across the region.

It said the governor’s popularity and political base in Plateau State would be crucial to advancing the party’s objectives and delivering stability, unity and development to the people.

ALGON, APC raise alarm over alleged plot to stall governance at Osun LGAs

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State and the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday raised the alarm over alleged plots to stall governance at the local government areas of the state.

This is just as APC alleged that despite Supreme and Appeal Court verdicts which backed the reinstated executives, Osun State Government has concluded plan to procure order from Federal High Court and Magistrate to stall governance at the grassroots levels.

The Nation recalled that amid the control crisis between council executives of APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), several court verdicts and cases set room for confusion as to decided who is legally backed by the law to be in-charge of LGAs.

Meanwhile, executives of APC have been at councils since February 2025 and LGA workers who backed PDP excos later resumed duties on Monday.

Addressing newsmen at APC State Secretariat, ALGON chairman, Abiodun Idowu, blamed Osun State Government for defiance to apex court verdicts on the legitimate excos of the council.

Idowu who is the Ifedayo Council chairman, said “Procurement of court order everywhere every time is an impediment to the development in Osun State m,it has caused us a lot of damages. We, local government chairmen cannot function under that process, they have gone to several High Court within and outside Osun State.

“We are over overhearing now that ,they are still going to Magistrate Court, I wonder after we have go to several courts all to Supreme Court, they are now reversing to Magistrate Court. This is just an attempt to to stop development in Osun State.”

Also, APC through its Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi urged the National Judicial Council(NJC) to treat petition filed against some judges over their conducts in granting orders.

“The entire judiciary of the country is further humbly notified that the judgments in Appeal No: CA/AK/15/2025 and the Supreme Court Suit No. SC/CV/773/2025 have jointly put to rest any purported claim of the Osun State Government over the Local Government Council allocations and subsistence of office of the APC Chairmen and Councillors.

“This is against the background of the latest self-deceit of the Osun State Government which has returned again to the Federal High Court and the Magistrate Court in Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/291/2025 and Charge No. MOS/601C/2025> respectively over the same subject matter already settled by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.”

Efforts to get reaction from Osun State Government was abortive as the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi did not respond to calls and text sent to his phone as at the time of filing this report.

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have declared that the party’s eight years in opposition in the state are enough, vowing to reclaim the Agodi Government House in the 2027 general election.

The stakeholders include the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu; former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin; the wife of the late former governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi; and a presidential aide, Chief Sunday Dare. Others are Senator Yunus Akintunde, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, Prof. Adeolu Akande, former Oyo APC Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, Hon. Wunmi Oladeji, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, Hon. Segun Odebunmi, and former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, among others.

The party leaders made the declaration at the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ Unity Rally held in Ogbomosho, where they urged members to close ranks and work collectively towards reclaiming power in the state.

They reaffirmed their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pledged to mobilise massive support for him and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

The rally, which drew party leaders, elected officials, former office holders and grassroots mobilisers, highlighted renewed unity and organisational strength within the party in the zone.

In his welcome address, Hon. Segun Odebunmi said Ogbomosho remained a stronghold of the APC, noting that intensive mobilisation efforts had already begun to consolidate the party’s dominance in the area.

He assured party members that Ogbomosho would deliver overwhelming support for the APC, adding that stakeholders in the zone were firmly behind President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope agenda.

He urged members to remain united and focused as efforts continue to expand the party’s grassroots structures across the state.

Former state chairman, Chief Akin Oke, charged party leaders in Ogbomosho to work as a team, stressing that prolonged opposition was no longer acceptable.

Wike to APC national secretary: steer clear of Rivers politics

…says they should stay off Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, to steer clear of political affairs in Rivers State.

Wike’s warning followed comments attributed to Basiru, who had cautioned the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, against what he described as disrespect towards Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, allegedly to curry favour with Wike.

Basiru’s remarks came after the minister’s recent “thank you” visit to Gokana Local Government Area.

Reacting while addressing residents of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Wike advised Basiru and other politicians to desist from actions capable of igniting tension in the state.

He stated that both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were now working towards a common objective of ensuring the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

The minister also expressed displeasure over what he described as attempts by politicians to position themselves to benefit from the N600 billion Rivers fund, warning against politicising resources meant for the development of the state.

“Today, you are enjoying in Osun, you don’t know those who did the work. You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State. Anything you see, take it.

“Go and ask other people what has happened to them before. If your hand burns, it’s not me. This state is a no-go area. Take the one you have taken, stop making unnecessary comments.”

JUST IN: Former Abia governor Theodore Orji dumps PDP for APC

The third democratically elected governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Orji, who represented Abia Central Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2023, had announced his retirement from active politics a few months ago but did not formally renounce his membership of the PDP at the time.

The Nation recalls that his son, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji had earlier dumped the PDP amid the internal crisis rocking the party, once regarded as the largest political party in Africa. Political observers had widely interpreted the younger Orji’s move to the APC as a possible signal of his father’s eventual defection.

As speculated, the former Abia Central senator, who has largely maintained a low public profile since his retirement, has now formally left the PDP for the APC, a decision many analysts say had long been anticipated.

Observers note that Senator Orji’s defection has further weakened the PDP in Abia State, given his influence and reputation as one of the party’s key rallying points and financiers in the state.

Confirming the development, the former governor’s media aide, Mr. Ifeanyi Umere, told our correspondent that the defection was a personal decision. He added that there was no official reason provided for the move.

While some stakeholders have welcomed the continued growth of the APC and what they describe as the strengthening of opposition politics in the state, others have expressed concern that the defection could deal a significant blow to the PDP’s structure and its prospects of regaining political dominance in Abia State.

  • APC expands grassroots base in Abia as forum hails Kalu’s leadership

APC expands grassroots base in Abia as forum hails Kalu’s leadership

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a notable expansion of its grassroots presence across Abia State, a development the party’s South East Mandate Forum has attributed to the sustained mobilisation efforts and leadership of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

In a statement issued on Monday in Umuahia, the forum said Kalu’s extensive political engagement at the community level is gradually reshaping Abia’s political landscape, despite the state being governed by the Labour Party (LP). It added that the ruling party is steadily losing ground as the 2027 general election approaches.

The group noted that Kalu’s leadership has sparked a wave of defections from the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political platforms, with thousands of politicians and grassroots supporters reportedly renouncing their memberships to align with the APC.

According to the forum, the scale of the defections underscores growing public discontent with the current administration in Abia and a renewed confidence in the APC as a viable political alternative.

“Across wards, communities and local government areas in Abia state, we are witnessing an unprecedented political realignment driven by conviction, not coercion,” the statement reads.

“In recent times, we have witnessed events where thousands of former members of the Labour Party, PDP and other parties openly renounced their affiliations, tore their membership cards and willingly identified with the APC because they see direction, leadership and seriousness of purpose.”

The forum said the development did not happen by chance, attributing the momentum to what it described as Kalu’s consistent, hands-on and people-centred approach to party building.

The APC group said while many political leaders have withdrawn from active engagement during the holiday period, the deputy speaker has remained on the ground, strengthening party structures and personally engaging grassroots stakeholders.

“While others are resting, celebrating and issuing seasonal goodwill messages, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu has chosen to work,” the statement said.

“He has been on ground — listening to the people, rebuilding confidence in the APC, and reminding Abians that politics must be about service, not slogans.”

The forum said Kalu’s mobilisation strategy has deliberately prioritised grassroots inclusion over elite consensus, noting that his engagements cut across youth groups, market associations, professionals, women leaders and traditional institutions.

“This is not a movement restricted to political big men. It is a people-driven process. The confidence level of party members has increased and more people are joining the party,” the group said.

“What we are seeing is the reawakening of grassroots politics in Abia, where ordinary citizens feel reconnected to a party that speaks their language and understands their everyday realities.”

The APC group said the defections have also helped to stabilise the party internally in Abia, reducing factional tensions and restoring confidence among long-standing members who had grown disillusioned in recent years.

According to the forum, Kalu’s stature within the national leadership of the APC has played a critical role in reassuring defectors that their interests will not be marginalised.

“As deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Benjamin Kalu represents a bridge between national authority and local aspiration,” the statement said.

“People are joining the APC in Abia not just because they are dissatisfied elsewhere, but because they believe they will have a voice, relevance and protection within the party.”

The forum said the political movement unfolding in Abia signals more than routine defections, describing it as an early indicator of a broader shift ahead of the 2027 elections.

“What is happening today is not noise; it is structure. It is not propaganda; it is participation,” the group said.

“The APC is steadily regaining its footing in Abia state, and this has been achieved through patient organising, credibility and visible leadership of Hon Benjamin Kalu.”

The group also commended Kalu for maintaining party cohesion while expanding its base, noting that his approach has avoided inflammatory rhetoric and instead focused on unity and long-term growth.

“Leadership is not measured by how loudly one speaks, but by how many people are willing to follow,” the statement added.

“The willingness of thousands to publicly align with the APC under his watch is a testament to trust — trust in his character, his capacity and his vision for Abia.”

The forum said the growing strength of the APC in Abia has begun to reshape political calculations within the state, adding that the party is positioning itself as a serious contender ahead of the next election cycle.

“As Abia moves closer to 2027, the foundations being laid today will matter,” the group added.

“And at the centre of this reawakening is a leader who understands that political victory begins from the grassroots.”

•1,000 Abia residents get food items

pro-President Bola Ahmed Tinubu group, Southeast Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), has vowed to work for President Tinubu’s victory in Southeast in 2027 general election.

The group distributed food items to over 1,000 residents drawn from the state’s 17 local governments.

The exercise in Umuahia, the state capital, was led by Southeast Coordinator, Belusochukwu Enwere.

He said although the exercise might not address all challenges facing the people, it sent a message that leadership must be attentive and responsive to citizens’ needs.

“Our dear President is doing that for the people,” he said.

He noted that the group will intensify political mobilisation ahead of 2027 elections.

“We want to state that from January we will tour all nooks and crannies of every ward and local government to mobilise support for the re-election of Mr President,” he said.

“To the people of Abia, I assure you Southeast Renewed Hope Agenda remains steadfast in its commitment to initiatives that uplift livelihoods, empower communities and strengthen unity in Southeast.”

Enwere said the exercise was a demonstration of the group’s shared commitment to compassion, solidarity and people-centred leadership.

He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on the principle that governance must be responsive to needs of the people, particularly at the grassroots, a commitment he said Tinubu has shown.

“This intervention is a modest but meaningful effort to support households and ease the burden on people,” he said.

“Food security remains a pressing issue in communities. Women, children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups are often the most affected.

“Today’s distribution is not merely about sharing food; it is about restoring hope, promoting dignity and reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that defines us as a people.”

Noting the economic and political importance of Abia State, Enwere said the state is known for its resilience, enterprise and strong community values.

“These qualities inspire our continued engagement with the people through practical initiatives that improve welfare and promote inclusive development,” he added.

Abia Coordinator, Hillary Adibe, lauded Tinubu’s efforts in steering the country towards progress and renewed prosperity.

Adibe reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national, state and regional levels.

He also expressed appreciation to the President for providing employment opportunities and empowerment programmes, including grants, to party members in the state, noting that the initiatives have brought hope and relief to many families.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Ifeanyi and Mrs Chinyere, described the palliatives as timely and expressed gratitude to the organisers, pledging their continued support for the APC and President Tinubu.
