    • Plateau governor to register with APC today

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He explained that given the realities of the moment, he was compelled to seek an alternative political platform.

Although he did not mention the party he will join, it was confirmed that he is defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor delivered his resignation letter to PDP’s chairman at Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area.

In the letter, dated December 29, last year, Mutfwang said he took the action to enable him to pursue purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery through an alternative political platform.

In the resignation letter, which was officially received and acknowledged by the ward leadership on December 30, last year, the governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunity it provided him to participate in the democratic process.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect.”

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” the letter stated. “I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”

The governor had earlier announced his resolve to join the ruling APC.

It was gathered that Mutfwang will today pick up the APC membership card in his ward to officially become the party’s member.

The Nation reports that APC has fixed January 26 to formally receive the governor into the progressives’ fold.

APC pledges renewed commitment to Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians of its determination to intensify efforts in the New Year, pledging to remain focused and work even harder to justify the trust reposed in the party and the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

In a New Year statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, wished Nigerians a happy and prosperous 2026 and promised a year of renewed commitment to national transformation.

Commending Nigerians for their patriotism and resilience amid ongoing reforms, the party maintained that the temporary pains associated with bold policy measures are giving way to steady progress.

“We are thankful to Nigerians for their patriotism and resilient support of our great party and President Bola Tinubu-led administration as we continue to confront and transform complex, age-old challenges in key sectors of our national life and improve the material conditions of life for our people,” Morka said.

Expressing satisfaction with the gains recorded so far, he noted that the sacrifices being made by citizens are beginning to yield visible results.

“Our great party is delighted that this endurance and sacrificial love for country has begun to bear fruits, and that the transient pains of the administration’s deep and focused reforms are steadily dissipating, with vital economic indicators pointing to a rebounding economy and a resurgent Nigeria,” he added.

The APC urged Nigerians to take collective pride in the achievements of the APC-led administration, stressing that the government’s success translates to national success.

“As a party, in 2026, we will remain focused and work even harder to continue to justify the confidence Nigerians have reposed in us as the pan-Nigerian progressive party of choice,” Morka stated.

He reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for President Tinubu’s reforms, which he said are restoring macroeconomic stability, easing microeconomic pressures, improving infrastructure delivery, boosting agricultural production, expanding oil sector output and strengthening national security.

The party also paid special tribute to members of the armed forces and security agencies fighting terrorism, banditry and other crimes nationwide, commending their devoted service, exceptional patriotism and sacrifices, which it said deserve the highest respect of a grateful nation.

Ekiti 2026: PDP governorship candidate alleges APC plot over INEC omission

…blame your crisis not us, ruling party tells Oluyede

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for his exclusion from the provisional list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday at his country home in Ikere-Ekiti, Oluyede described his omission as surprising, insisting that his emergence as the PDP candidate was duly monitored and supervised by INEC.

The governorship aspirant explained that although legal suits were filed challenging the party’s primary election, INEC officials had deposed to affidavits in court confirming that he was the duly elected candidate of the party.

“In actual fact, there have been suits against the election and INEC came to swear affidavit that I was the candidate of the party. I am not aware of any reason that should preclude me from the election,” he said.

Oluyede maintained that there was no court injunction or order restraining him or the PDP from participating in the election, arguing that INEC does not have the constitutional power to determine who emerges as a party’s nominee.

“As far as I know, there is no court injunction, there is no court order that should preclude me from the election. I don’t think INEC is in a position to determine who should be the nominee of a party. They haven’t been doing that before and I don’t know why this is happening,” he said.

He disclosed that he had commenced consultations with party stakeholders and would also engage the electoral body formally to demand explanations for the action.

Reassuring his supporters across the state, the PDP candidate urged them not to panic, expressing confidence that he would participate in the governorship poll and feature on the final ballot.

“I want to reassure my supporters that I am going to be the next governor of Ekiti State, which means I am going to be on the next ballot. This is a normal process of elections. People will play games, but it is a game of futility that will not go anywhere,” he said.

He warned against attempts to exclude candidates through what he described as political manoeuvres, noting that elections should be based on the will of the people.

“My advice to those trying to preclude others from contesting is that it is not the right way. Elections are meant to give people the opportunity to choose their government. If you are confident in your performance or capacity to govern, then you should have the confidence to face the electorate,” Oluyede said.

However, the Ekiti state Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe dismissed the allegations, describing the claim as baseless and a diversionary tactic aimed at covering internal crises within the PDP.

Dipe said that APC had no control over INEC and could not interfere with its constitutional responsibilities, arguing that the PDP’s omission was a result of internal leadership crises and ongoing court cases within the opposition party.

The APC Spokesman advised the PDP governorship  candidate to seek redress through legal means rather than making what it described as “wild allegations” against political opponents.

APC chieftain urges unity, resilience, calls for functional LG councils in Abia

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has appealed to residents to remain united and resilient in their collective efforts to build and develop the state.

Ikonne, the immediate past Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), also charged the Labour Party (LP)-led state government to entrench good governance that would guarantee free, effective, and functional local government administration.

He made the call in his New Year message issued on Thursday to journalists in Abuja.

The APC chieftain urged Abians to enter the new year with a shared sense of purpose, noting that the state could unlock its full potential when citizens persevere and work together.

Expressing optimism about Abia’s future, Ikonne called for collective commitment to building a society where development and opportunities are equitably shared across communities.

“Together, we will build a state where hope is not just a dream, but a reality lived by every family,” he said.

“As the dawn of this new year breaks, I stand with every Abian, filled with hope and determination. Abia is a land blessed with industrious people, rich culture, and boundless potential. However, progress is achieved through action, accountability, and leadership that puts the people first.”

He encouraged residents to remain active participants in governance by demanding transparency and accountability from those in authority.

“In 2026, I encourage every Abian to rise with courage and ask the right questions of those in power. Let us demand transparency, accountability, fairness, and a government that listens to its citizens,” Ikonne added.

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, he advised Governor Alex Otti to ensure the effective and independent functioning of local government councils, stressing that strong grassroots institutions would enable citizens to feel the direct impact of governance.

“One critical step toward progress is allowing our local government authorities to function freely and effectively. When they are empowered, communities develop, and livelihoods improve,” he said.

Ikonne stressed that effective grassroots governance is vital to development and service delivery, noting that local governments are closest to the people and play a crucial role in addressing basic needs such as road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and job creation, particularly in rural areas.

  • Why Delta APC must unite for 2027, by Dafinone

Why Delta APC must unite for 2027, by Dafinone

Senator representing Delta Central, Ede Dafinone, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State to embrace unity and inclusiveness as the party works to build a stronger structure capable of winning all elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at an end-of-year luncheon for APC members from the eight local government areas of Delta Central at his residence on Tuesday, Dafinone said the party must learn from its shortcomings in the 2023 polls and deliberately strengthen internal cohesion.

He called on his supporters to work with new party members, stressing that unity remains the APC’s greatest strength and the foundation for future electoral success.

The senator reminded party members that the APC now controls both the federal and state governments, urging total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

“We are all APC. Our governor, Elder Sheriff Oborewori is APC. Our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is APC. So, we must continue to support them and their policies fully. We must work together, federal, state and local government as one big family.”

Dafinone praised President Tinubu’s leadership, saying his economic reforms, though painful, were necessary for long-term stability.

“The removal of subsidy was painful, because the petroleum subsidy payment was benefiting only a few. But today, things are beginning to adjust, the price of food items is coming down, and Nigeria will be better for it,” he said.

Urging party members not to lose faith, he called for patience and collective resolve, stating, “Stay strong. Stay united. Keep believing. Together, we will move forward.”

Describing the gathering as a family reunion, Dafinone assured supporters of his accessibility and commitment to their welfare.

“I call you my family because that is what you are,” he said, adding that his leadership would always be measured by the impact he makes on people’s lives.

On party affairs, the senator noted that although the APC did not produce the governor in 2023, its current alignment with the state government presents renewed opportunities.

“Today, the governor is with us, and that means the dividends of democracy are closer than ever,” he stated.

APC leaders in Delta Central, including Adelabu Bodjor, Chief Able Idigun and Chief Tuesday Onoge, commended Dafinone’s performance in the Senate and expressed confidence that he would deliver more if re-elected in 2027.

The event was attended by party leaders, youth and women representatives, and other stakeholders, and ended with a renewed call for unity ahead of the new year and the 2027 elections.

APC national vice chair to Fubara: You must go through Wike to win in Rivers

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), South South, Hon. Victor Giadom, on Tuesday, advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers to go through the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to win anything in the state.

Giadom said this during Wike’s ‘thank you’ visit to the people of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers.

Describing Wike as a “dependable leader” in Rivers politics, Giadom assured the minister that there would be no political force in Gokana other than Wike.

“I guarantee, on behalf of my brothers, that the Gokana people are for Wike and Tinubu, and nobody will challenge Wike’s influence in Gokana.

“Gokana is a ‘no-go area’ for anybody, even the Gov. Fubara. For him to win anything in Gokana, he must pass through Wike,” he said.

Also, Sen. Magnus Abe, a former Senator who represented Rivers South East at the Senate, said that the people of Gokana have already chosen their friends – Wike and Tinubu.

“Wike is a leader that unites, and that is why we are united. If you follow Wike, you will not go home empty-handed.

“The Ogoni people are with you, and we will not go home empty-handed. Please tell Tinubu not to bother coming to Gokana to campaign. We are for him,” he said.

On his part, the Deputy Speaker, Rivers Assembly, Dumle Maol, assured Wike that the people of Gokana would be with him every step of the way.

“Anywhere you go, we will go,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of Gokana Local Council, Mr Confidence Deko, pledged total support to the minister, saying, “Wherever you go, we will go.”

“This local government is for you because of what you have done for us. Please tell Tinubu that the people of Bokana are appreciative of him.

“The time for payback is near, and we will do the needful,” he said.

Responding, Wike explained that the visit was to say thank you to the Gokana people for their good deeds and support over the years.

He commended the people for the display of unity of purpose for Tinubu, saying, “When you are united, good things will come.”

He asked the people to be patient and listen to their leaders for direction on where to go when the time comes.

The minister promised to continue to work with the people, adding that APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers were working under the umbrella of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Wike said, “That is why you see PDP and APC members here.”

2027: APC chieftain predicts landslide victory for Tinubu, Oyebanji

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Jide Akinyemi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji will secure landslide victories in the 2027 general elections and the 2026 governorship poll, respectively.

Akinyemi said the APC remains firmly rooted in Ekiti and has become the party of choice among the people, whom he described as overwhelmingly satisfied with the purposeful leadership of the APC-led administration in the state.

He made the assertion on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti during the distribution of food items and Christmas gifts worth several million naira to more than 5,000 beneficiaries drawn from the state’s 16 local government areas.

According to him, the impressive performances of President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji would translate into massive electoral support for the ruling party, as the people are prepared to reward the APC at the polls.

Akinyemi added that the widespread support currently enjoyed by APC-led governments at both the federal and state levels reflects the dividends of good governance and responsible leadership.

“For the first time in a long while, people across the state are speaking with one voice about governance. Workers are paid, senior citizens receive their pensions, and there are visible initiatives that touch the lives of the people. With this level of performance, landslide victories are inevitable,” he said.

Akinyemi explained that the annual Christmas outreach, which has been sustained for about four years, was designed to support vulnerable members of society and to complement the efforts of the Oyebanji administration in easing the economic burden on households, particularly the elderly, women, and less-privileged families.

He dismissed speculations that the humanitarian gesture was driven by personal political ambition, stressing that the foundation’s activities are purely philanthropic and aimed at supporting good governance.

While receiving Akinyemi and his supporters into the party, Chairman of the Ekiti State APC, Barr. Sola Eleshin described him as a patriotic citizen whose commitment to the welfare of the people aligns with the values of the APC.

Eleshin said that Akinyemi’s decision to formally align with the party would further strengthen the APC’s grassroots support, expressing confidence that the party would continue to enjoy overwhelming acceptance among the people of Ekiti State.

BREAKING: Ganduje invites Yusuf, as APC warms up to welcome Kano Gov

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, under the leadership of the immediate past national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has invited Governor Abba Yusuf, urging him to feel free and join the ruling party.

The state APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, disclosed this in a statement in Kano on Tuesday.

Governor Yusuf’s planned defection to the APC has divided the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), on whose umbrella the governor was elected.

The NNPP national leader and the governor’s benefactor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, does not want the governor to join the APC.

Abbas stressed that the call for Governor Yusuf to join the APC aims to build a more united and prosperous Kano State.

“The APC is ready to receive Governor Abba Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can combine our strengths for the progress of the state,” Abbas said.

  • APC, ALGON fault NULGE over conditions for Osun council workers’ resumption

APC, ALGON fault NULGE over conditions for Osun council workers’ resumption

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and a faction of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) have criticised the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) over the conditions attached to the planned resumption of council workers in Osun State on January 5, 2026.

The Nation reports that NULGE had directed its members to return to work after about 11 months of strike action, which followed the crisis over the control of local government councils claimed by both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The President of NULGE, Kehinde Ogungbangbe, had outlined conditions for resumption, including the provision of security for workers and the prevention of APC executives from occupying council offices. He argued that the tenure of the APC-backed officials had expired and that they lacked the authority to allocate council funds.

Reacting, the APC, through its Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi, accused Ogungbangbe of partisan conduct, alleging that the union embarked on a sympathy strike in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke and abandoned its duties for political reasons.

Olabisi questioned the authority of NULGE to interpret court judgments, accusing the union of overstepping its mandate and interfering in matters beyond its statutory role. He described the conditions set by the union for resumption as unacceptable and inconsistent with civil service procedures.

He further alleged that the Osun NULGE leadership had become entangled in political interests, insisting that its actions undermined neutrality expected of public servants.

Similarly, the ALGON chairman, Hon. Samuel Abiodun, warned that security agencies should hold the NULGE chairman responsible for any breach of peace or breakdown of law and order during the resumption of workers at the councils.

He warned, “The monetary-induced NULGE executives to desist from any act capable of undermining the peace, unity and tranquillity that the people of the grassroots have been enjoying since the reinstatement of the Council Chairmen and Councillors.”

“We are aware of the shenanigans being orchestrated by the embattled NULGE President since our reinstatement, as he has shown clearly to the whole world his unchecked partisanship and bias. As we reaffirm our commitment to peace, unity, harmony, cohesion, and stability across the councils, we want to put our security agencies on alert in case there’s a breakdown of law and order.”

  • 2027: Ogun East APC leaders drum support for Tinubu, Abiodun, Adeola

2027: Ogun East APC leaders drum support for Tinubu, Abiodun, Adeola

    • …say president deserves second term to consolidate reform gains

Leaders, members, and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State on Tuesday turned out in their thousands to declare support for the party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The gathering, held under the banner of Ogun East Assembly Ijebu North at the Omo-Ilu Foundation Complex, Ijebu-Igbo, also saw party faithful endorsing Governor Dapo Abiodun for the Ogun East Senatorial seat in 2027 and Senator Olamilekan Adeola for the governorship.

Speaking at the event, APC chieftain and convener of the meeting, Prince Fatai Adesegun, said the mobilisation was aimed at sensitising party members and preparing the political ground ahead of the next election season. He also supervised the distribution of food items and other gifts to party supporters.

Adesegun told journalists that President Tinubu deserved a second term to consolidate the gains of his administration’s economic reforms. He cited the stabilisation of the naira, the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said had hindered development, and ongoing infrastructure projects across the country as reasons to support Tinubu beyond 2027.

He added that the APC in Ogun East remained united and committed to ensuring victory for the party and its candidates in future elections.

He said, “In my capacity as the son of the soil and to honour our leaders and to sensitize our people (Ijebu North), being one of the major determinants of election outcome in Ogun State, to remain loyal to the party. The gathering is part of the initiatives that will be happening ahead of 2027 so that we can garner active support for our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“And by the special grace of God, we are also urging our people to prepare the ground for our man, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, for his election. He has not declared his intention, but we who are his people and followers are urging him to contest for governor. He has been good to us in the Ijebu North local government. He has over 20 projects here – roads, schools, transformers, etc.

“Although he is a Senator in Ogun West, he has extended his constituency and projects beyond Ogun West. We believe that if he becomes the governor, he will impact on the people of Ogun state. That is our purpose of gathering, to also canvas support for our President towards 2027 and Senator Olamilekan Adeola for the governorship ambition.”

Asked why President Tinubu deserves a second term, Adesegun said, “He deserves another term because in terms of the economy of the nation, he has done so much to reposition it for the better. You know something that has been bastardized for so many years; it is not something you can rectify completely within two or three years. There is no known magic that can do that. There are two major indicators that you need to look out for.

“The exchange rate has become stabilised. We are not using Naira to subsidize the dollar to benefit the selected few. President Tinubu has been able to stop that. He also boldly removed the subsidy that has stalled our development. Money saved is going into developmental projects across the geopolitical zones. These are the foundations of development. And he cannot complete the projects within four years. So, there is a need for re-election.”

Also speaking to reporters shortly after the event that had in attendance representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), Muslims group, Hausa community, Igbo community, market women, artisans among others, the Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Lawrence Oladipo, said that the initiative was meant to prepare the ground ahead of 2027 and ready the people for President Tinubu, Dapo Abiodun’s senatorial ambition and the yet – to – be declared governorship ambition of Senator Olamilekan Adeola.

“If he is listening to them now and remembering them by supporting them during this yuletide, he is already preparing the ground and making it easier for APC in our local government ahead of 2027.  Come 2027, we will have a smooth sail here, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given us hope, and we can see the hope all around us.

“Also, for Governor Dapo Abiodun, we can see we have many things to show for what he is doing since his first term till now in Ijebu North. All over Ijebu North, the active works of our Governor are there for people to see. We are even asking him to make himself available to contest the Ogun East Senatorial seat in 2027. We are urging him to come out and run.  He has given us the impression that if he gets to the Senate, he will do better for us in Ogun East.

“And for Senator Olamilekan Yayi, I’m a party member, and I believe the party will go the popular way.  When you are talking about an election, you have to go by the mood of the majority, as it is, my party is progressive and will go the majority way. So, we are expecting something better come 2027,” Oladipo said.
