Thugs kill APC supporter in Anyigba

Suspected thugs have gunned down a 35-year-old All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter Umar Hassan at his Agala Ogane Polling Unit, Anyigba.

Fear gripped voters at the polling unit as thugs went on rampage, threatening to kill anyone who voted against the “Igala Agenda”.

An eyewitness told newsmen the thugs invaded the polling unit with sophisticated weapons, threatening to kill anyone who “doesn’t vote for the SDP”.

“It was like what we watch in horror movies as they invaded our Polling Unit with very dangerous weapons. Unfortunately, Hassan fell victim and he was gunned down.

“They kept chanting war songs that they would kill anyone who voted against the Igala Agenda. They targeted Hassan being an APC member.

“What surprised me most was that the Military guys that had been targeting APC supporters for arrest and harassment were not on the ground to save Hassan’s life. It was so unfortunate”.

There was calm across many Polling Units in Anyigba until the gunmen stormed many units to fight anyone suspected to be an APC member.

Reports show that the poll has been peaceful so far in the Central and Western Senatorial Districts.

When contacted, the Spokesperson of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo condemned the attack and urged security agencies to fish out the killers immediately.

APC chieftain congratulates Onowakpo, hails Ibori, Omo-Agege

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) in Delta State, Dr. Sylvester Onoyona, has congratulated the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Joel Onowakpo on his victory at the Appeal Court recently describing it as well deserved and a hand of God in the affairs of man.

The congratulatory message of the APC chieftain was contained in a letter that he personally signed.

Onoyona commended the former governor and leader of the party in the State, Chief James Onenefe Ibori, and the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2023 general elections and former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege noting that for their dexterity and rigour to defend the mandate freely given to Onowakpo and others.

According to him, “the PDP goons were on their way to snatch the peoples’ mandate once again through the backdoor in accordance with their tradition of mandate rustling.”

In the same vein, Onoyona, who contested the seat for the Isoko Federal Constituency, at the last general elections said, he commended Onowakpo for his resilience and fighting spirit to have been able to defeat those he described as marauding PDP goons both at the polls and in the courts but was quick to give glory to God saying, “but for God, it wouldn’t have been possible.”

Commending the people of Delta South Constituency for standing firmly behind  Onowakpo whom he described as an astute, eminent gentleman who is hungry for the development of his people and material resources, he gave kudos to the party leadership led by Chief Omeni Sobotie, who he described as the father of the APC in the oil-rich state.

He described Sobotie as a thorn in the flesh of “mandate rustlers” bringing his experience to bear on all the cases against the victorious party faithful whose mandate were then under threat by those he said are enemies of good and qualitative leadership.

Onoyona also sent appreciative messages across the board particularly to leaders of the broom party in Isokoland noting that they stood solidly strong behind Onowakpo stating that, with the former tax man in the saddle representing the Delta South, the coast is clear for quality and productive leadership in tune with the Renew Hope mantra of the current administration.

According to him, with Onowakpo in the saddle, there would be a new lease of life for the people as every constituent will be carried along, noting, in that wise, every Onowakpo voter is a Senator.

“Rally around our distinguished Senator Onowakpo to enable him to deliver quality representation, and to bring dividends of democracy to the doorstep of every Delta southerner.

“The time has come for the people to see the difference between deliberate misrepresentation and quality representation. While the PDP, according to the politician, epitomises misrepresentation, APC’s Onowakpo will surely wear the crown of superlative representation and the delivery of quality service to the people.

“We believe in his capacity, in Onowakpo and others who are of the progressives family and not reprobates whose stock in trade is to disempower the masses and loot the commonwealth of the people. Therefore, I congratulate all victorious candidates of the APC in Delta state and beyond who are proudly flying the flag of Renew Hope.” The politician stated, noting that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is hungry for the development of the people and should be supported.

Why APC is yet to conduct primaries to fill vacant legislative seats – Argungu

The National Organising Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, has said that the inability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix dates for bye-elections for vacant legislative seats was responsible for the delay in the conduct of party primaries.

He told newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, November 9, that the delay was not peculiar to the ruling party, stressing that all the parties are waiting for the electoral body before conducting their shadow elections.

Reacting to inquiries on when the ruling party will be conducting primaries for some vacant legislative seats, Argungu said that compelling reasons have necessitated delays in fixing dates for party shadow elections.

He also said that based on the benefit of hindsight, the electoral body may be anticipating the possibility of some federal and state legislators being among those whom President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may choose to appoint as Nigeria’s ambassadors to various countries.

He said: “They (INEC) are working towards compiling comprehensive lists but they think that they have to pause a while and wait for the appointment of ambassadors; they expect that some current elected officials may become part of the list of new ambassadors.

“They won’t want to do by-election today, only to discover tomorrow that there is a host of vacant seats to be filled once again

“They are just taking their time to ensure that they put things together comprehensively for all these by-elections; anytime arrangements are concluded, they will make the nationwide announcement of the timetable to enable all the political parties to comply and APC will make a public announcement for all its arrangements.”

He also dismissed as baseless the allegation that the party was already selling nomination and expression of interest forms secretly to selected aspirants ahead of the yet-to-be-fixed bye-election.

Argungu stated: “Sell forms? To whom? When we are ready to sell nomination forms, it will be in the public domain; we will make the sale of forms known to all and as usual, it shall be open to any aspirant within the party who wants to participate in the primaries.

“We will sell forms to everyone who is a party member and who expresses interest in participating in the primaries towards electing candidates for the vacant seats.

“No date has been fixed for elections and no nomination forms are being sold yet in Surulere or any other constituency.”

APC natl secretary, Adeleke trade words over alleged N400m domestic cost

The spokesperson of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, has berated the national secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, over allegation that Osun governor is using N400m to service his domestic cost monthly.

The Nation recalled that Basiru had alleged that Adeleke despite living in sister’s house, he is using N400m for his domestic cost monthly.

However, a statement by Rasheed stated: “We are constrained to directly deny the unfounded allegation by a defeated senator of Osun Central , Mr Ajibola Bashiru. If the former senator truly uttered this blatant falsehood, it is defamatory and reprehensible. There is no iota of truth in the careless and ill thought out statement as the governor is not drawing any domestic running cost from the government coffers.

“He forgoes the usual security vote as a deliberate demonstration of his readiness for selfless service to Osun people. We take strong exception to an intentional fabrication of lies against a Governor whose popularity and performance rating are above eighty five percent.”

When contacted, Basiru in a terse statement said: “No comment. I can’t waste my precious time on incompetent people serving an ignoramous government.”
