Apart from commending the members of the Presidential Campaign Council, he also thanked all those who contributed to his success one way or the other.

Buhari also commended the International community for their interest in the development of Nigeria.

The President commended the security agents for their patriotic roles during the election.

He said “First and foremost, I give thanks to Almighty God Who has spared our lives to witness another victory for Nigerian democracy and victory for our party APC.
“I thank the millions of Nigerians who voted to re-elect me as your president for the next four years. I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful to you for judging me worthy of continuing to serve you and for your peaceful conduct.

“In particular, I would like to thank Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his masterful leadership as Co-chair of the Campaign Council. I would like to also thank the Party Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, the Director General of the Campaign Council Rotimi Amaechi, all members of the Presidential Campaign Council and other various Support Groups.

“My grateful thanks to all those who contributed to the logistical expenses of the campaign in such a vast country like Nigeria.

“I also thank the millions of volunteers, self-appointed overseers, canvassers, agents, escorts and sentries who sacrificed so much of their time and resources to ensure the success of these elections. I do not have the words adequate to thank them.

“Although Saturday’s elections were relatively peaceful, troublemakers in a handful of states attempted to disrupt an otherwise orderly process. Security agencies will bring to justice all those arrested in the process.

“I am very sad at the grievous loss of lives during these elections. Security agencies will step up their efforts to protect voters in the forthcoming State elections.

“I would like to commend our security agencies, as severely overstretched as they are, for handling the difficult task of securing the country during the election period.

“I will like to make a special appeal to my supporters not to gloat or humiliate the opposition. Victory is enough reward for your efforts.

“We give thanks also to our Domestic and International observers for contributing to the success of our elections and for their interest in our country and our developing democracy.

  • APC, UPP candidates reject Ondo election results

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Bamidele Baderinwa (aka White) and Ondo South zenatorial candidate of the United Peoples Congress (UPC), Ayebo Steve, have rejected the outcome of the last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

Baderinwa urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the polls inconclusive due to what he called widespread irregularities in some voting centres in the constituency.

Steve alleged that the polls were massively rigged in favour of a particular party.

The APC agent at the collation centre for Owena-Idanre, Jamiu Dauda, who spoke on behalf of Baderinwa, said the electoral commission must follow the election guidelines and the Electoral Act before announcing the winners of the polls.

According to the results announced by INEC in the constituency, the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) candidate, Tajudeen Adefisoye, polled 6,969; he is followed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Kayode Akinmade, who polled 5,800 votes and the incumbent lawmaker Bamidele Baderinwa, who got 4,817 votes.

Dauda said there were electoral irregularities at Omi-Funfun in Idanre Local Government Area where there was a reported gun duel in which seven people sustained injuries and the electorate were not allowed to vote.

The party’s agent said at Ofosu, in the same local government area, there was the burning of ballot papers and snatching of ballot boxes in some polling units.

He also alleged that at Ala, in the same council area, there were suspected cases of ballot boxes snatching and disenfranchisement of voters.

The APC lawmaker noted that it was necessary to declare the polls inconclusive because the number of votes from the troubled polling units was more than the margin between the leading candidate and the two runners-up.

The UPC senatorial candidate said: “There was vote-buying openly without any resistance by security operatives and other stakeholders in all the polling units.”

Besides, he alleged that the election was characterised by violence, ballot box snatching, intimidation and destruction of ballot boxes as well as papers by hoodlums.

Such actions, he added, were against electoral principles.

  • APC to PDP: calm down, await final polls’ outcome

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has asked the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to calm down and await the final outcome of the Presidential elections rather than call for the termination of the process when the game has not been concluded.

Spokesman of the council Festus Keyamo said in a statement that the PDP was standing logic on its head by rejecting the outcome of an exercise that has not been concluded and in another breadth, tell the world that it was cruising to victory.

The APC campaign asked whether the party was rejecting the entire result, including areas where it has won or rejecting the results from areas it lost.

The statement reads: “We have just read with great consternation the press statement of the PDP National Chairman, rejecting the results as being announced presently by INEC in Abuja.

“The simple questions we ask the PDP and Atiku’s Campaign team are, how come the PDP is rejecting results that have not been fully and completely announced? How can one reject the result of an uncompleted game? The process of an election does not end until the final collation and announcement of results.

“Is the PDP rejecting the totality of the results nationwide? If yes, does it mean they also reject the results that would be announced later by INEC, which may indicate that they have won in certain areas? Are they also rejecting the results already announced that indicate they won in some areas? For instance, are they rejecting the results of the FCT already announced in which they won?

“If indeed they are only rejecting areas where they lost, are they implying that it is only in areas where they won that can be adjudged free and fair and all areas where they lost must be adjudged rigged? Is that the mentality of true democrats?

“In the PDP statement, it is curious that they rejected the results as being announced, yet they claim they are coasting to victory. What kind of logic is that? What kind of confusion is now reigning in the minds of the top hierarchy of the PDP that they can spew such illogicality?

“It is now obvious that the top hierarchy of the PDP is hysterical and nervous. We urge them to calm down. Obviously, this is the first time they are sensing a massive loss of an election as opposition party. It is a new experience for them. They are confused and disoriented. For many years, they were used to manipulating the instruments of state to just write results and announce themselves as winners.

“As such they have a sense of entitlement to these instruments of state that they could not fully manipulate this time because President Muhammadu Buhari insisted on a level-playing field for all.

“We advise the PDP that as opposition party for many years, we have been down this road before. This is not the time to sacrifice the country for personal ambition. If they feel they have lost (as their statement clearly indicates), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar must pick up his phone to make that famous call to President Muhammadu Buhari. The world is watching him and so are Nigerians.

“We urge INEC, Nigerians and our international friends not to be swayed by these infantile antics of the PDP. The process of collation and announcement that is on-going should be done to its logical conclusion after which anyone who is aggrieved should take full advantage of the provisions of the law.”

The council also accused the PDP of making frantic efforts to discredit the entire process and destabilise the process that would lead to a logical completion of the February 23, 2019, Presidential Elections by way of announcement of results in line with the established procedure in the Electoral Law.

He said Dickson having seen that his candidates including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lost in Nembe-Bassambiri and in Southern Ijaw, had resorted to propaganda and lies to deceive INEC and rob the APC and Buahri of their victory.

Sylva, however, claimed that the governor was behind all the violence he accused the APC of adding that the dead casualty in Nembe was a member of the APC.

He said it had been the style of the governor to be playing the victim while dealing with his perceived enemies noting that it was irresponsible for a governor to be heating up the polity with unnecessary protest.
