  • APC wins reps seat in Cross River

    The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has won the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency seat in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State in the results announced so far.

    The state has eight House of Representative seats and Egbuna’s victory has disrupted the possibility of an all People’s Democratic Party (PDP) affair, as it presently is.

    The candidate of the APC, Dr Alex Egbuna, scored 29, 432 votes to beat the candidate of the candidate of the PDP John Gaul-Lebo, who came second with 26, 971. The returning officer was Dr Chike Ekeopkara.

    Abi/Yakurr is the constituency of former governor, Liyel Imoke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

  • APC to Kwarans: thank you for ending Saraki’s dominance

    The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has commended the people of Kwara state for voting to end the era of dominance and political slavery in the state by coming out to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and all its candidates in Saturday elections.

    The party asked the people to complete the political revolution they have started by coming out to cast their vote for the party governorship candidate in the forth coming governorship elections.

    In a statement signed by the National publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Isa Onilu, the party said it was full of “appreciation to the good people of Kwara State for the tremendous and overwhelming support shown to President Muhammadu Buhari and all candidates of the party in the Presidential and National Assembly elections that held last Saturday.

    “For our party and to Kwarans, this victory is special in so many ways. But most significantly, is how the people showed uncommon resilience and determination against all odds to kick out a man that had stagnated development and held the fortunes of the state hostage for the past 16 years.

    “The people of Kwara have shown clearly that they will no longer fraternize with their oppressors neither will the state representation continue to be a sign post for thuggery, embezzlement, feudal lords, misuse of power and opportunism.

    “The people of Kwara have shown commitment to the kind of change that will empower the people while reclaiming the lost glory of Kwarans. The dawn of intellectual capacity, integrity, accountability, fair and progressive representation as well as respect for people and institutions beckon.

    “We equally note with utmost satisfaction the total and unequivocal victory given to our party, as we not only won the Presidential election, but also all the Senate and House of Representatives seats in the state.

    “It is, indeed, a new dawn for our dear Kwara State. The APC would not take this victory for granted. Service to the people would be our watchword, as our Representatives in the National Assembly are fully conscious of the enormous responsibilities now placed on their shoulders.

    “However, we want to remind our people that the work is not done yet. Come Saturday, we humbly ask every eligible voter in the state to come out enmasse and vote for our governorship candidate, AbdulRahman Abdulrazak and all our candidates for the House of Assembly polls.

    “To accomplish this task is imperative in order to uproot all the vestiges of the retrogressive political servitude that has held our dear state backward amongst the comity of states in Nigeria.”

  • APC wins Gajuwa/Darazo federal constituency

    The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) candidate, Mansur Manu Soro has won the House of Representatives seat for Ganjuwa/Darazo federal constituency of Bauchi state.

    Announcing ‎the result, the INEC Returning Officer, ‎Dr. Bello Abdulkadir Rasheed said the APC candidate polled 45,867 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dayyabu Chiroma of PRP who scored 20,983 votes.

    The People Democratic Candidate, PDP, Ibrahim Galadima came third with 19,897 votes.

  • Dickson, APC leaders’ trade words on electoral violence, killings 

    Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, Monday accused leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of masterminding the killings and other forms of violence that occurred in the state during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

    Briefing journalists in Government House, Yenagoa, Dickson lamented that at least three persons, one in Nembe-Bassambiri and two in Southern Ijaw, were killed with many people across the state sustaining injuries.

    The visibly angry governor alleged that security agencies especially troops of the Nigerian Army, colluded with the APC leaders to kill the victims, who were members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    He said thugs loyal to APC unleashed mayhem on polling units across the state under the watch of soldiers adding that troops were responsible for the act of terrorism against innocent voters by thugs.

    The governor particularly accused a former Governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, a surveillance contractor, a former National Deputy Publicity Secretary, APC, Yekini Nabena and the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Prof. Nelson Brambaifa, of leading assaults against voters in the state.

    He alleged that Sylva and the surveillance contractor in connivance with soldiers unleashed pre-election violence on Nembe-Bassambiri by shooting into the community throughout Friday night.

    He said the shooting continued in the morning while thugs loyal to them abducted INEC officials and took them to a hotel where they thumb-printed all the ballot papers meant for the seven wards in Nembe-Bassambiri.

    He said INEC in the state had done nothing about it despite text messages sent to the Resident Electoral Commissioner by one of the INEC officials abducted by the thugs.

    The governor alleged that the APC was making efforts to transmit “the unlawful results” to the INEC and appealed to the commission to reject the overtures since according to him no elections held in Nembe-Bassambiri.

    He asked the people of Nembe-Bassambiri to rise against the development and promised to lead a protest against attempts to subvert and undermine the will of the people.

    The governor further alleged that Brambaifa came with about 50 soldiers to disrupt elections in Agbere, adding that they deliberately scattered all the votes when they saw they were losing.

    Dickson claimed that Nabena was arrested with arms at Odi by soldiers but was later released after security agencies received orders from above.

    He said: “I am telling the people of Bassambiri not to accept this and they have my support. Bassambiri has to be freed. I am calling on the leaders of Bassambiri not to allow this nonsense to persist in that proud land. For us we will not accept this.

    “I have had cause to issue several statements on this. I will lead demonstrations and protests aimed at vindicating the democratic rights of the people of Bassambiri. I shall do so. I call on the REC to drop his lilly-liver and wear the garb of an electoral umpire in the state.

    “Because if you allow Sylva to take several electoral materials, lock the place down by force of illegal arms with soldiers and others conniving with them, then what you are telling politicians is that votes are not important”.

    He said there were efforts by thugs loyal to the APC to storm the Sagbama collation centre and manipulate the results in his local government areas.

    On the killings, he promised to set up a judicial commission of enquiries to look into the roles played by leaders and security agencies in the elections.

    But he added: “A preliminary report that I have indicated that they were killed by soldiers. They were not killed by thugs. The chieftain of our party who was in house waiting for the results to be collated and announced but an APC leader who had access to solders went and pointed at them and they just shot them.

    “I believe that the full circumstances will be unraveled. But I feel very sad. Nobody should die in an election. If you defeat my candidate, I will even congratulate you. We are not enemies to kill ourselves. It’s so sad.”

    The governor, however, praised the electoral process in Brass and Ekeremor, saying for the first time in the history of the state, the people were allowed to cast their votes in peaceful atmosphere.

    In their reactions Brambaifa and Nabena denied the allegations against them by the governor saying they were never in breach of the electoral process.

    Nabena said he was never arrested with arms and asked the governor and other persons making the allegations to present the weapons found on him by security agents.

  • APC wins 4 out of 9 reps declared in Ogun

    The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has clinched three more House of Representatives seats in Ogun, winning all four so far declared out of nine federal constituencies in the state.

    Olumide Osoba (APC) won Abeokuta North/ Odeda/Obafemi Owode, Lanre Edun (APC) won Abeokuta South, while Korede Osunsanya, also of APC, was declared winner of Ijebu-Ode/Ijebu-North/Odogbolu federal constituency.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC had earlier been declared winner of Ado – Odo/Ota Federal Constituency’s seat in Ogun.

    Olumide, son of a former governor of the state and chieftain of APC, Chief Segun Osoba, polled a total of 33, 538 votes to defeat the incumbent, Mikhail Kazeem of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 14,903 votes.

    The result was announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Ismaila Salami, at Unity High School Collation Centre, Ago- Ika, Abeokuta.

    At the Centenary Hall collation centre for the Abeokuta-South federal constituency, the Returning Officer, Prof. Bameke Oyedele, declared APC’s Edun as winner, having polled a total of 17,003 votes.

    He defeated his closest rival, Mr Segun Sowunmi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored a total of 8,608 votes.

    Similarly, Prof. Michael Ozoje, the Returning Officer at Ijebu-Ode Local Government Collation Centre, declared Osunsanya as winner of Ijebu-Ode/Ijebu North-East/Odogbolu seat with a total of 25,608 votes.

    Mr Taiwo Shote, the PDP candidate who came closest to Osunsanya, scored total votes of 21,775.

    Results of the polls for the five remaining federal constituency seats were being awaited as at the filing of this report.

  • APC wins two Senatorial Seats in Kano

    All Progressives Congress APC has won Kano North and South Senatorial Seats in Kano state.

    The Chairman Senate committee on works and (APC) candidate Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya beat Abdullahi Sani Togo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win Kano South Senatorial Ticket.

    Gaya polled 319,004 to defeat the PDP candidate who scored 217,520.

    In Kano North Senatorial, Senator Barau Jibrin of APC won with 286,419 to beat the PDP candidate Ahmed Garba Bichi who scored 155,638 votes.

    Meanwhile, the result of Kano Central Senatorial election is being awaited as collation is still in progress as at the time of filing the report.

  • Buhari wins Nasarawa for the first time

    President Muhammadu Buhari has won Nasarawa state for the first time since 2003 defeating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by 37,896 votes.

    Results collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lafia shows that President Buhari polled 279,315 votes to defeat Atiku who polled 241,419 votes.

    Buhari won in eight local governments while Atiku won in five local governments marking the first time the Peoples Democratic Party has lost Nasarawa state in a presidential election since then return to democracy in 1999.

    The president got his highest number of votes in Lafia, the state capital, where he polled 55,254, while Atiku got his highest votes in Karu local government after polling 49,292.

  • Elections: Buhari in early lead in Lagos

    …as INEC declares results of 15 LGAs

     

    President Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in early lead as INEC collated presidential election results of 15 local government areas of Lagos state.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that APC won in most of the local government results declared so far in the much awaited collation.

    The exercise commenced at the INEC Office, Yaba and it has been nonstop since Sunday night.

    NAN reports that the President defeated his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the Apapa, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikeja, Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island local government areas election results announced and submitted.

    Other local governments where the APC led are Agege, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos Mainland, Mushin, Oshodi-Isolo.

    However, PDP defeated APC in Surulere, Eti-Osa and Ojo in the results declared as at few minutes to 8.0 a.m on Monday.

    The election results were presented and accepted by the state collation officer, Prof. Felix Salako, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun.

    The collation officer for Apapa LGA, Abiodun Babalola, who read the results, said that APC polled 18,170 votes while PDP scored 11, 295 votes in the council.

    Apart from the People Coalition Party (PCP) that scored 238 votes and African Democratic Congress (ADC) that polled 108 votes, all other 69 political parties scored less than 100 votes each in the council.

    Babalola said out of the total registered voters of 186, 649, only 33, 095 were accredited for the poll.

    He said that the total valid votes were 30, 680, the rejected votes were 1914 while the total votes cast were 32, 594.

    The collation officer for Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Prof. Abduhamid Suleiman, said that APC polled 12,179 votes while the closest rival party, PDP scored 9, 222 votes.

    Apart from the Accord Party that also polled 2,168 votes, PCP that polled 170 votes, African Action Congress (AAC) that scored 111, all other parties got below 100 votes each.

    According to Suleiman, out of the total registered voters of 109, 731, only 26,568 were accredited for the poll.

    He said that the total valid votes were 24, 668, the rejected voted were 1327 while the total votes cast were 25, 995.

    He added that the total valid votes were 36, 021, the rejected voted were 1967 while the total votes cast were 37, 988.

    For Epe LGA, the collation officer, Dr Babatunde Adeoye, said that APC polled 17, 710 votes while the PDP scored 13, 306 votes.

    Apart from PCP that scored 185 and AAC that got 53 votes, every other party got below 50 votes in the local government.

    Also, the collation officer for Ikorodu LGA, the Collation Officer, Ilupeju Akanbi, said that APC polled 40, 719 votes while the PDP got 21,252 votes.

    Apart from AAC that polled 410 votes, ADC that scored 184 votes, ANN that got 196 votes, DPP that polled 109 votes, PCP that had 375 votes and YPP that polled 215 votes, other parties got belowe 100 votes.

    The Collation Officer for Badagry LGA, Prof.Adetokunbo Demiloye, said that APC polled 21, 417 votes while PDP polled 17, 939.

    The Collation Officer for Lagos Island LGA, Dr Adepoju Tejumade while presenting the council results said that the APC polled 27, 452 votes while the PDP got 7396 votes.

    While AAC scored 192, PCP scored 191 votes while all other political parties scored less than 100 votes each in the council.

    According to Tejumade, out of the total registered voters of 194, 738, only 38, 285 were accredited for the the elections.

    Apart from AAC which got 212 votes, ADC that polled 109, PCP which got 384 and SNC that polled 155, all other parties score less than 100 votes.

    Prof. Carol Opara, the Ikeja LGA Collation Officer said that APC polled 23, 638 votes while the PDP 21, 518 votes in the council.

    Apart from AAC that also polled 566 votes, ANN which scored 492, PCP that polled 413 votes, YPP that got 503 votes, ADC that got 108 votes and FRESH Party that got 123 votes, all parties got less than 100 votes.

    In Ifako Ijaiye LGA, APC polled 33, 419 votes while the PDP scored 18,100 votes while in Mushin LGA, APC polled 43, 543 and the PDP had 20, 277.

    In Oshodi/Isolo LGA, the APC polled 29, 860 and PDP polled 28, 806, whereas in Lagos Mainland, APC polled 22,684 and PDP 15, 137.

    In Agege LGA, APC scored 36, 443 and PDP got 16, 497 whereas in Surulere LGA, APC polled 30, 621 while the PDP garnered 31,603.

    Meanwhile, in Ojo and Eti-Osa LGAs, PDP polled 29, 019 votes and 25, 216 votes respectively to defeat APC candidate who polled 24, 333 and 20, 962 respectively.

    As at the time of filing this report, the centre was still awaiting results from Alimosho, Kosofe, Somolu and Amuwo-Odofin LGAs but that of Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA had been brought and getting set for presentation as at 7:45am.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 73 presidential candidates participated in the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections held across the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

    In the results declared so far by various returning officers, Buhari led his closest rival, Abubakar in the state with a wide margin

    Earlier in his address of welcome before the collation commenced, Mr Sam Olumekun, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), commended the security agencies for the good job and called for sustenance of adequate security throughout the exercise.

    Olumekun, who noted that nothing could be achieved without peace, however,frowned at the pockets of violence that greeted Saturday election in some areas of the state.

    The INEC boss, who noted that violence, was not acceptable, urged stakeholders to channel their grievances to appropriate quarters.

    The collation had in attendance heads and representatives of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) members headed by the Lagos State Police Commissioner CP Zubairu Muazu.

  • APC wins one senatorial seat, PDP two in Ondo

    The embattled Ondo North senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has retained his seat at the Upper Chamber.

    He won last Saturday’s election with 53,199 votes to beat the Action Alliance (AA) candidate, Dr Tunji Abayomi, who polled 43,100 votes and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Segun Alonge, who got 34,490 votes.

    It was learnt that former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko may have lost the battle to represent Ondo Central in the Senate with the results being released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officers (RO) in some of the local government areas in the district.

    Although the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo Central, Dr Rufus Akeju, had not officially announced the results, reports from the six local government areas in the central senatorial district indicated that the PDP won the election.

    The party’s candidate, Ayo Akinyelure (All Over), who was at the Senate before he was defeated by incumbent Senator Tayo Alasoadura, may likely take over again from Alasoadura.

    Mimiko contested under the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) after he dropped his ambition to contest the presidential election under the Labour Party (LP).

    The results of Ondo South Senatorial District had not been announced last night.

    But it was learnt that the PDP candidate and a former Commissioner for Transport, Nicholas Tofowomo, was leading other contestants.

    In Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, the PDP candidate, Mr Ikengboju Gboluga, polled 31,042 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Albert Akintoye of the APC, who polled 19,875 votes.

    The result was announced by INEC Returning Officer for the Federal constituency, Prof Enuwo, at Stella Maris College in Okitipupa.

    Also, in Akoko North East/Akoko Northwest Federal Constituency, Olubunmi Ojo of the APC polled 20,988 votes to defeat Mr Wale Ogunleye of the PDP, who had 12,969 votes and the incumbent Federal lawmaker, Stephen Olemija, of AA, who got 10,979 votes.

    In Akoko South West/Akoko South East Federal Constituency, Ade Adeogun of the APC polled 19,047 to become winner, while two of his closest rivals, Dr Victor Ategbole of the AA got 14,694 votes and Martins Abiloye of the PDP polled 12,907 votes.

    INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof Taiwo Abraham, announced the result at Oka-Akoko.

    But six House of Representatives seats are still awaiting official declaration by INEC’s returning officers last night.

     

  • APC criticises PDP for asking INEC to declare Atiku winner of presidential election

    THE All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday described the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar as winner of Saturday’s presidential election as an unwarranted attack on democracy and Nigerians.

    In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC said the call was shameful.

    He said: “The PDP in that statement, recklessly calls on the INEC to arbitrarily declare its candidate, Atiku Abubakar the winner of the presidential election.

    “This call is shameful and alarming; unwilling to wait for INEC, the constituted legal authority to complete its task, the PDP seeks a short cut by false and premature claims of victory, this cannot stand.

    “Our nation is trying to perfect its democracy, not turn it into a mockery, sadly, this objective is lost to the PDP.”

    The ruling party accused the PDP of trying to intimidate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its candidate even before the collation of the result begins.

    Issa-Onilu said the APC believed in the sanctity of the ballot box and the rule of law, stressing that what the PDP was trying to do was throw the nation into a state of confusion.

    He accused the PDP of being desperate to take over power, noting that it was not patient enough to allow the INEC carry out its constitutional responsibility of collating the results as expressed by the people before declaring the winner of the election.

    He said the statement by the PDP was not helpful to the electoral system, adding that seeking a short cut to power will be counter-productive.

    Issa-Onilu said: “Sadly, this objective is lost to the PDP. The PDP’s guiding principle is distilled to the following: because they want something, then they should get it. What they use to guide themselves actually blinds them instead.

    “They want the presidency so badly that they have engaged in all manner of misconduct and spared little cost to achieve their aim, they now believe that they are entitled to claim victory, notwithstanding the vote and will of the people. But this is not the way of democracy. Democracy means the people choose for themselves not that the PDP chooses for them.

    “That may have been the way in the past when they engineered and kidnapped elections to achieve their desired end, notwithstanding the true will of the people. Thankfully, those days are gone and gone forever.

    “These elections are supposed to be democratic exercises, not a platform for the PDP to impose their selfish designs on a hopeful nation. The PDP should honour and follow the sovereign will and sober dignity of the Nigerian people.

    “The people patiently waited the additional week for Election Day to come. The vast majority of people again exercised patience as they peacefully voted on Election Day.

    “Unfortunately, isolated incidents of violence took place. We are deeply saddened by the violence and disruption that did occur. Nigerians died yesterday (on Saturday) and that should never have happened and should never happen again during an election of any kind in our land. Their deaths are needless tragedies that marred what was otherwise a celebration of our maturing democracy.

    “Instead of the discordant and provocative statement it released, the PDP should be appealing for peace and for INEC to diligently and thoroughly perform the vital task assigned it.

    “Curiously, the majority of violent incidents and reports of electoral malpractice emanate from states which the PDP controls. It appears the PDP just cannot break from their old ways.

    “The PDP press statement is but a continuation of the sordid games that party has mastered. While all evidence points to the misconduct of their people, they make outlandish and false claims against the APC.

    “This is but the typical modus operandi of a master swindler. They seek to distract the public eye from their own wrongs, by falsely accusing the APC of the very things they had conspired to set in motion months before this election even took place.

    “From trying to falsify results on the ground to attempts at hacking the INEC software, they are willing to say and do anything to obtain victory, no matter how tainted by the wrongs they commit.

    “On our part, the APC has governed and campaigned as we believed was right. Because of this, we are content to await the verdict of the people. We also believe that only INEC has the authority to announce election results.

    “What the PDP is trying to do, by claiming without any factual basis that Atiku has won, is usurp INEC’s constitutional authority. Moreover, PDP’s words are rash eruptions that may incite needless violence and unrest.

    “Thus, we ask the PDP to live up to the status it claims for itself as a large political party. The PDP should behave more responsibly instead of acting the role of spoiled children who threaten to upset the dinner table if not fed their preferred meal. The APC asks and encourages INEC to do its job as mandated by law and by good conscience and not by the screams of those who do not fully believe in these ideals. We hope INEC can begin to release results soon and do so in a way that protects and honours the vote of every Nigerian who cast a ballot.

    “We also ask our members and supporters to exercise patience and conduct themselves peacefully. Democracy is a contest of issues and visions. Not one of muscle and fighting. Let there be no more violence among us. Remember that we are all Nigerians and belong to the same national family despite our political differences.

    “On this day, may democracy and sovereign will of the electorate reign. There is no worthy substitute for this despite the malign protestations of the PDP.  If Nigeria is to stand for something, let it be democracy and let it be today, so that we assure for ourselves fruits of a brighter future.”
