  • Breaking: Appeal Court sacks Balogun-Fulani’s Kwara APC executives

. Affirms Bolarinwa as authentic Kwara APC chair
    . Balogun-Fulani dissatisfied with judgement

Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital on Tuesday sacked the Hon Ishola Balogun-Fulani faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The court thereafter affirmed the authenticity of the Hon Bashir Bolarinwa-led APC executives in the state.

A Kwara state High Court had December 19th last year ruled that the dissolved Ishola Balogun-Fulani executive is the authentic exco of the APC in the state.

The lower court thus nullified any candidate produced by the Bashir Bolarinwa executives for the forthcoming elections.

Dissatisfied by the judgement of the lower court, the APC (appellant) approached the appellate court for redress.

The appellants’ grounds of appeal are that “the claimants cannot join the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the state High court because INEC is a Federal Government agency; the amendment of
their originating summons was brought in bad faith.

“They brought issues that were not in existence as at the time of filing the suit originally. Even though the lower court has discretion, but its discretion must be exercised judicially and judiciously which was not done in this circumstance.”

The appellate court in an interlocutory judgement it delivered last week upheld the nomination of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the state APC governorship candidate.

Reading his judgement on the main appeal Justice Ibrahim Salauwa set aside the judgement of the lower court and upheld the Bashir Bolainwa-led executives.

He added there would be no reason to deliver a judgement on the same matter with the same parties after the interlocutory judgement of last week.

Justice Salauwa added that it “would amount to share fruitless academic exercise which the courts are not meant for.”

Reacting to the judgement, counsel to Hon Bolarinwa, Kamaldeen Gambari said that “what transpired is the affirmation of the interlocutory judgement which this court delivered sometime last week.

“It said the originating process of Ishola Balogun-Fulani is incurably defective. The state High Court has no jurisdiction to go ahead in the matter.”

APC counsel, Lawal Jimoh said that the judgement “has laid to rest all the controversies about the judgement of the Kwara state High Court delivered December 19th last year. It nullified the total judgement.

The issue of Hon Ishola Balogun-Fulani parading himself as the APC chairman has been laid to rest.

“This judgement further solidifies that primaries of APC held in October last year in the state. There is no controversy at all. As of today the APC in Kwara state can go and sleep when it comes to the issue of factionalisation of the party or not.

“The court by that judgement affirmed the authenticity of Hon Bashir Bolarinwa-led executives of APC in the state and of course all the candidates that emerged from the primaries that were held by the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC in October 2018 remain valid.”

Counsel to Ishola Balogun-Fulani, Abdulazeez Ibrahim expressed his dissatisfaction with the judgement. Ibrahim added that “the judgement is a simple one, because the issues were trashed at the interlocutory stage. That is supposed not to be the case. The decision in the interlocutory appeal has determined even the main appeal that was delivered today.

“So we are not satisfied about that judgement. And we have appealed against the interlocutory judgement delivered last week. So we are going to appeal against the judgement just delivered today again.

  • Court insists on Imo APC Exco’s legitimacy

*To hear motion for Oshiomhole’s committal

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Bwari, Abuja has insisted that its judgment and orders affirming the legitimacy of the Executive of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, led by Daniel Nwafor, remain in force.

Justice Othman Musa made the clarification on Monday at the resumed hearing in post-judgment proceedings initiated by the national office of the APC, its National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Nwafor.

The court had in a judgment delivered on August 14, 2018 upheld the legitimacy of the Nwafor-led Executive of the APC in Imo State and forbade the dissolution of the state EXCO.

After the judgment, Nwafor filed an application, seeking Oshiomhole’s committal to prison, on the grounds that he allegedly moved to dissolve the Nwafor-led state EXCO, in violation of the August 14, 2018 judgment.

Oshiomhole and the APC equally filed an application, challenging the validity of the judgment, which they argued, was delivered without jurisdiction. They also filed a counter-affidavit to the application by Nwafor.

On Monday, Damian Dodo (SAN), representing the APC and Oshiomhole urged the court to, first hear and determine his clients’ motion, challenging the court’s jurisdiction and the validity of the judgment.

Nwafor’s lawyer, Chidozie Ogunji objected and urged the court to first, hear his client’s application for the committal of the APC’s National Chairman to prison, before hearing any other application.

Ogunji argued that it was wrong for Dodo to asked the court to hear his (Dodo’s) application, challenging jurisdiction before taking the contempt proceedings.

He contended that a court of law has a duty to protect its proceedings and processes from invasion.

Ogunji added that up and until the court deals with the issue of contempt, which is an affront on the court, the issue of jurisdiction, in whatever manner, it is raised, is inconsequential.

He stressed: “This is so, because, by the court dealing with the affront on it, the court is and will be protecting it’s jurisdiction.

“Today, the party sought to be committed, is not in court. And, whether the said party is challenging the jurisdiction of the court or not, once it is a contempt proceedings, the defendant must be in court.

“We do not intend, for now, to apply that a bench warrant be issued. But we ask that the court makes an order that the party sought to be committed, (Oshiomhole) attends court on the next date, so that there will not be a continuous show of disrespect to this court.”

Dodo, in his reply on point of law, faulted Ogunji’s argument and urged the court to first, consider the challenge to its jurisdiction, before conducting any other business.

He argued that the orders and judgment being challenged by his clients were allegedly got without their knowledge.

Dodo added that the position of the law is that, where a party is challenging the validity of an order or judgment, that person cannot be proceeded against, by way of contempt proceedings until the question about the jurisdiction of the court is resolved.

On Ogunji’s claim that Oshiomhole disrespected the court by being absent, Dodo argued that the APC National Chairman has shown respect for the court by retaining a lawyer to canvass legal argument, on his behalf, before the court on whether or not the court has jurisdiction.

Dodo argued that, until the issue of jurisdiction was resolved, Oshiomhole’s presence in court was still unnecessary.

Ruling, Justice Othman agreed with Dodo that, though the court must protect its dignity and proceedings, it was necessary that it first, resolve questions about its jurisdiction when raised, before conducting further proceedings.

The judge consequently elected to first hear the applications by the APC and its National Chairman, on the issue of jurisdiction, before hearing Nwafor’s application for committal.

He, however, insisted that the court’s judgment of August 14, 2018 and the consequent orders made, remain in force until the question about the validity of the judgment and orders was resolved.

Justice Musa adjourned to March 20 this year for the hearing of the application by the APC and its National Chairman.

  • ‘Discharge your civic responsibility’

The lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bamidele Baderinwa has urged the electorate to remain committed to Nigeria’s project.

Baderinwa, who is also an All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate for  the federal constituency said the postponement of the 2019 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) by one week should not discourage them.

The lawmaker who spoke to reporters in Ero, Ifedore local government noted that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria hence the need for every eligible voter to remain committed to discharging their civic responsibility.

He opined that the Electoral body would not in any way do what could truncate the nation’s democracy.

He said “I believe INEC decision will be in the best interest of all Nigerians because I know the body also believe in moving the Nation forward”

“Nigerians, particularly the electorate should not relent but remain steadfast at ensuring things are done right”.

The lawmaker however called on INEC to ensure that already supplied electoral materials are kept in safe custody ahead of Saturday and March 9 rescheduled dates for the elections.

Baderinwa also charged security agencies to be up and doing at discharging their duties in the attempt to safeguard the integrity of the nation.

  • Elections: APC UK wants INEC reviewed, reformed

The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in the United Kingdom has called for review of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) operational model with a view to reforming it.

The chapter made the call following INEC’s postponement of the general elections on Saturday.

In a statement copied to the News Agency of Nigeria in Uyo on Monday, the Chairman of the APC in the United Kingdom, Dr Philip Idaewor, said that the postponement indicated a systemic exhaustion within INEC and necessitated review of its operational model and enabling laws.

“This is with a view to radically reforming it and making it fit for purpose. This is because well organised free, fair and credible elections are important to the enthronement and sustenance of democracy.

“The announcement by INEC to postpone the 2019 General Elections has come as a huge shock to us, especially given the timing of the announcement, when political parties had already deployed huge resources to the field for the elections.

“We have carefully listened to all the explanations given by INEC as well as the reactions of our party’s leadership, our presidential campaign council, President Muhammadu Buhari and international observers.

“We align ourselves with the position of our party leadership, our presidential campaign council and Mr President.

“We are saddened that INEC leadership did not deem it necessary to brief Nigerians on a regular basis when it realised the difficulties it listed as reasons for this postponement.

“We note that the decision by INEC falls well below the expectations for a seamless performance, given that INEC has conducted similar elections since 1999 when this fourth republic started, with opportunities for extensive field experiences and organisational discipline that would have ensured operational options even in unforeseen circumstances.

“Moreover, INEC leadership presented the needed budget for this elections, with evidence showing that all of INEC’s requests were fully met to ensure successful implementation of this election cycle,” he said.

Ideawor said that INEC should tell Nigerians why elections could not hold in states which did not have the logistics problems it listed.

“Why postpone the elections in the entire country? What happens now to those ballot papers and other election materials already distributed to local government areas around the country?

“What is the cost of this postponement to our national purse? Where will money for another deployment come from? Who takes responsibility for this, and what is the consequence?” he asked.

He, however, urged Nigerians to refrain from spreading messages capable of heating up the polity.

“Nigeria needs peace to continue on the path of national reclamation started by the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

  • APC demands daily briefing from INEC

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be more open to Nigerians ahead of the rescheduled general elections.

It urged INEC to brief the nation daily on their challenges and steps being taken to address them.

The party’s Director of Election Planning and Monitoring and Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola told a news conference that INEC should have had a better logistics arrangement ahead of the elections, adding that Nigeria have abundant logistics personnel that the commission could tap from with the right mobilisation.

He also said the commission should tell the nation what logistics challenges it had with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that led to the shift in election and what steps they are putting in place to address those challenges.

According to him, there were indications that some people, especially in the opposition, were privy to the postponement of the elections.

He said: “Elections and political parties are primarily about people. In this episode, millions of Nigerians have sacrificed their time, resources and convenience to perform this national civic duty only to be disappointed by the postponement.

“As a party, our disappointment is doubled due to the fact that unlike some, who were apparently privy to this postponement in advance, we found out alongside the public a few hours before the polls opened.

“To the stranded youth corps members, we empathise with you. To the voters and volunteers, who have travelled at great cost to cast their votes, we empathise with you. To party agents and our party faithful, we empathise with you.

“Our sympathies go to all those people and we urge them not to despair. However, we Nigerians are a determined and resilient people and we will not let the shortcomings of INEC deter us from exercising our franchise.

“Therefore, we ask you all to stay calm, stay determined and come out en masse on February 23rd to vote for APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and all APC senators and House of Representative candidates. We urge all Nigerians to convert their disappointment to determination and ensure that their previous sacrifice does not go to waste.

“As a result of the common pain shared by us all, we, the Directorate of Election Planning and Monitoring, and Contact and Mobilisation, on behalf of APC Campaign Council, demand greater openness and transparency in the commission’s preparations ahead of Saturday February 23, 2019.

“We believe that members of the public should know what steps INEC have taken with CBN to assess, take inventory of materials and brief the public about what their condition is; status of INEC’s plans to procure and provide materials for election and in particular let Nigerians know if all materials required are in country and if not, what plans the commission has to ensure that they are.

“INEC’s plans to re-deploy and distribute materials ahead of Saturday February 23, 2019. The specific problems INEC encountered in the failed attempt of Saturday February 16, 2019 and measures it has taken to overcome them?

“What transport logistics and further materials INEC require in terms of vehicles, boats, trucks, airplanes, helicopters, manpower and funding INEC requires to execute the elections of February 23rd and March 9th.

“Confirmation that the configuration of the card readers will be completed in readiness of Saturday 23rd 2019. In addition to all of these, we believe that INEC should brief Nigerians daily on an ongoing basis until this process is concluded. This is one way to elicit the buy-in of Nigerians that INEC is serious and this will replace disappointment with enthusiasm.

“As President Buhari has urged that ‘Nigerians should continue to rally round INEC at this trying national moment’, INEC has the duty to now make its processes open, believable and inspiring. This is what Nigerians can and will rally round. This is the road to free and fair elections, which is a victory for Nigeria and not for any party.”

Responding to questions, Fashola dismissed allegations that the party was planning for staggered elections and therefore engineered the postponement, adding that such an allegation was irresponsible as the party was not interested in any staggered elections.

He said: “That APC is preparing for staggered elections is not a responsible and credible allegation to make. APC does not conduct elections. We go by the rules as set by the umpire and they have not announced staggered elections and so, we are prepared for one election and that is the Presidential and National Assembly elections and the governorship and state assembly elections.”

He said he will not be drawn into saying what the party will do if the elections fail to hold again on Saturday saying “I won’t predict what I will do until that eventuality comes. We think that INEC is peopled by responsible people. The leadership of INEC has said that they need one week and I will take them by their words and that is why I am saying that if they want to be taken seriously, they should up their process.”

He said it was clear from social media reports that the PDP was privy to the postponement of the election, even before it was announced.

  • Rescheduled polls: APC sure of victory, says Egbeyemi

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would sweep to victory in the general elections rescheduled for this weekend.

Egbeyemi said the APC does not need the help of security agencies to win the polls as being alleged by the opposition. He described the party as “the most popular in Ekiti and Nigeria.”

The deputy governor, according to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Odunayo Ogunmola, made the remarks during a campaign at the popular Bisi Market in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Egbeyemi said the security agencies should be fair to all parties while maintaining peace and order during the elections.

The deputy governor who assured that the state would be peaceful during the election debunked the rumour that there was violence in some parts of the State.

He charged the candidates of the APC to put their trust in God who would surely grant them victory in the election.

Egbeyemi said: “My message to the people of the state is that all eligible voters should come out on Saturday and exercise their civic responsibility.

They should come out and vote for President Buhari and all our candidates in APC.

“The security agencies are on ground to ensure that there is orderliness during the election.

“And I want to urge them to be fair to all concern. They should treat everyone without bias.

“All our candidates have nothing to fear. All they need to do is to look up to God. The Lord is strongly behind us.We have no cause to indulge in sharp practices, our people are strongly behind us.”

In a related development, commercial motorcyclists, under the aegis of the state chapter of the Okada Riders Association has declared support for the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC candidates in the general elections.

  • APC Rep candidate pays JAMB fees

Henry Tuesday Abimbola, House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) for Yagba Federal Constituency,  Kogi State yesterday has presented cash donations to 340 candidates across three local governments in the constituency to enable them purchase the University Matriculation Examination forms.

In addition, he promised to take up the responsibility of payment of school fees of successful candidates through out their years in the university at the cost of N400,000 for each student every year.

According to him, the scheme which targeted 10 candidates from each of 34 electoral wards in the constituency, is to continue after the 2019 election year irrespective of the outcome of the election.

Addressing the beneficiaries at the presentation ceremony in Odo-Ere, headquarters of Yagba West Local Government, witnessed by stakeholders in the education sector in the area, Abimbola, a businessman and philantropist, said the gesture was not influenced by his political aspiration as he had supported the education sector in various ways in his basic community over the years. He  said that his decision to extend the gesture to other parts of the constituency was “a hand of support to reduce the burden of parents in the laying of a solid foundation for the future of our children through the attainment of proper education to the university level beginning from today”.

In attendance were state goverment officials, including Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investment, Ibrahim Adoga, former chairman, State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Deborah Olutimayin,  Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo among others.

Senator Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of the APC for Kogi West senatorial district, also graced the occasion alongside other party stalwart from the zone.

“The purpose of this programme is to extend a hand of support to other parts of Yagba.  I have been doing this for the past 15 years in my community (Mopamuro Local Government),” Abimbola said, adding “This includes donation of computers to science schools, scholarship to Mopamuro indigent students both at polytechnic and university levels, payment of school fees, WAEC and NECO fees for a minimum of 30 students, provision of teaching aids, employment of ad hoc teaching staff to make up for the shortage of teachers at Government Day Seconary School, Itakete-Ide for past 12 years and paying their salaries; provision for accommodation for NYSC corps members and principals. So this is not about election. And I assure you this latest scheme will continue election or no election”.

Adeyemi offered to support the JAMB scheme for Yagba indigent students initiated by Abimbola with additional 10 beneficiaries. He described Abimbola as a “consistent philanthropist” and urged the beneficiaries to embrace education if they must excel in their lifetime ambition. He promised to focus on education, youth and women empowerment if reelected.

  • Postponement not fault of any political party – Okorocha

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has said no political party should be blamed for postponement of the February 16, 2019 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement in Owerri on Sunday, Okorocha attributed the postponement to challenges faced by INEC, recalling that this was not the first postponement of elections in the nation’s history.

He further said that the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) was ready for elections, describing the postponement as regrettable.

He urged INEC to ensure that all issues were ironed out within the week to ensure seamless elections in the country.

“The postponement of the election by INEC is an unfortunate development and also regrettable, but it is important to note that no political party should be blamed for the postponement, but rather on the challenges facing INEC.

“This is also not the first time the nation will witness such development during elections, it happened in 2011 and in 2015 respectively.

” I only want to urge INEC to use the week of postponement to resolve all the challenges it has and ensure that Nigerians have a smooth, free and fair elections.

“APC as the ruling Party is ready for the elections and it will be absurd to accuse the ruling party of being responsible for the postponement,” he said.

He also urged Nigerians to show patriotism by maintaining peace and understanding.(NAN)

  • Kwara 2019: Odds in favour of APC

Politics is no arithmetic. That is why pollsters and strategists keep shifting the aces until the ballots are counted. That scientific permutation works quite well in developed democracies. In America, for instance, candidates place much premium on exit polls when making permutations on likely winners of electoral contests. In Nigeria, politicians often rely on a mixture of manipulation, thuggery and influence of money.

Bookmakers are at work as Nigerians prepare to choose new leaders from across 91 registered political parties on February 16 and March 2. Indeed, a few states such as Ogun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi and Kaduna are set for titanic battles between emergent forces and ‘established’ politicians. Not so for Kwara State where the voters are determined to dictate the direction of power flow.

The wind of change is pregnant. Kwarans are yearning for a new order and they are prepared to put their ballot where their heart directs them. For those who refuse to be sold on sentiments and pre-conceived notions of political hegemony, the odds are in favour of progressivism and people-oriented politics as depicted by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Deep in the hearts of Kwarans, the era of political dictation is over. Citizens, high and low are yearning for a leader; a father-figure who listens, who is accessible, humble, compassionate and altruistic. Across the country such leaders are few. But, with nostalgia, many remember the late Oloye Olusola Saraki, on time senate leader and perhaps the most consummate politician Kwara ever had.  Omo eni oba joni (Why don’t we have a son like his father) many are wont to say.

Kwara today is singing the dirge of the Saraki political dynasty. The message is simple: O to ge, enough is enough. Let’s have a new political leader. For those not directly involved, this is not about  hatred or bad belle. It is simply time for change. What are the indices for change and power shift, one may ask?

While he held sway in Kwara, Oloye Saraki played politics with deep deftness. While he had favourites for political patronage, he often consulted widely and allowed elders, in various communities mostly his acolyte, to have some say in who gets what, especially for elective positions. Perhaps, he often worked to arrived at pre-determined answers. Nevertheless, the people respected his choice, in most instances. But, Saraki’s bread was always buttered as long as he stayed within the confines of the ruling party and enjoyed the federal might.

Oloye Saraki’s son, Bukola has long jettisoned the political skills inherited from his father. He has lost bearing owing to his inordinate lust for political power; by all means he wants to be president, no matter who and what gets destroyed. First, his strategy is to use those who work with him as pawns, while also ensuring no one gets to rich and too powerful to challenge him. Next ammunition is to amass wealth by all means, especially using state resources.

For sure, Kwarans have seen beyond the façade of Omo Oloye. Bukola simply lacks the qualities and political dexterity of his father. It is inconceivable that Kwarans will boo and stone Oloye Saraki. Now Bukola is fast becoming a political pariah, even in his supposed homestead at Agbaji quarters in Ilorin. For those still in doubt of his diminished political power, check out the results of elections into local councils held in November, 2017. For the first time in more than a decade, many wards within Ilorin metropolis voted against candidates backed by Bukola.

Saraki’s real political demolition came a year later during the bye election for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin and Oke ero Federal Constituency. Saraki’s candidate in PDP lost woefully, to signpost his final rejection by Kwarans. But, like a cat with nine lives, Bukola can still boast of having some political muscle. That was why he deluded himself in splashing millions of dollars on the PDP presidential primary in Port Harcourt. He came back badly bruised and poorer!

Back home, he has faced still and open rejection. Across all senatorial zones, his campaign train has been booed, stoned and ambushed by agitated youths who are regretting the support that gave to Bukola and his political machinery, especially his anointed successor- Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed; more of a lame duck than an executive governor!

In Kwara South where Gov. Ahmed belongs, the bye election to the federal constituency mentioned above must be seen as an absolute rejection of Saraki and a damning testimonial on the lackluster performance of Ahmed. Yet for doubters, an incumbent governor has been so disgraced by withdrawing the senatorial ticket earlier doled to him by the senate leader. What a mess!

In Kwara North, the PDP campaign team led by Bukola has been stoned thrice. This is a zone that holds so much potential for wealth creation and employment generation through agriculture and solid minerals deposits. The only semblance of development is the phony Shonga Farm project now completely privatized by Saraki and his business partners; so brazenly executed without minding that huge state resources were sunk in to the scheme. And what did the owners of the land got as benefits? Their sons, mostly farmers, food processors and marketers, after losing their lands to foreigners, have been forced to Okada riding.

The frustration of Kwara North is more deep seated, beyond economic deprivation. Since 1999- twenty years at a stretch- the zone has not produced a Governor. Bukola had promised that that after eight years of incumbent governor, the mantle will shift to the zone. That was a promise never meant to be kept. The zone has been asked to wait for another eight years, possibly. Will the people of Kwara North bite the bullet once more? It is unthinkable that Bukola will again get away with his political subterfuge.

In Kwara Central, where the battle will be between Saraki and the blue-blood Ilorin indigenes, the outcome of the coming elections will finally give a face to the o to ge the movement. In the senatorial election, Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe is set to give Bukola a bloody nose by taking the senate seat. But the February 16 election has also stacked the odds in favour of President Buhari and the APC.

As the people of Kwara get set to choose a new governor, one thing will be paramount in making that choice – now, our ballot can actually give us the government with deserve; a government that will be accountable, equitable, just and people-oriented. That choice is symbolized by the APC candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The APC candidate prides himself as an “original” Ilorin man, who had is formative education in the city, attending the Demonstration School, in MagajinGeri, Ilorin. Despite his success in the business world, he disagrees that he was a silver spoon child. He has identified poverty and youth unemployment as two evils plaguing Kwara owing to what he describes as a visionless dynasty. “We have a dynasty that has no sense of where Kwara should be going. Each one of us in our families in Kwar has become a local government onto himself because you have to provide healthcare, water and all other services for yourself and the extended family,” Abdulrazaq was quoted in a recent interview.

Specifically, the APC candidate has promised to pursue a six-point agenda anchored on modernised agriculture, quality education and massive infrastructure, employment for the youth as well as empowerment for the women. He also pledges to boost the morale of workers through prompt payment of wages, allowances and requisite training.

“My vision is to see a state where we are no longer dependent on statutory allocations from Abuja, where we use our enterprise to generate enough funds to run the state, where we reduce unemployment, where our women have free maternal care, where our women are empowered to achieve what they want to do. Where students have a good environment to study and can pursue what they want with government assistance either through scholarship or free education,” he said.

His determination must have been informed by the fact that many Kwarans feel that state resources have not been prudently managed. “Between January 2011 and August 2018, the Kwara State government has received roughly N300bn in federal allocations. In the same period, the 16 local governments have received more than N500bn. This means that this state has received an average of 40bn naira annually from the federal accounts while the local councils have taken over 27bn naira annually between 2011 and 2017. Yet Kwara has one of the worst social infrastructures in this country,” said Abdulrazaq.

He has also set his vision on modernizing agriculture by tapping into the state’s huge potentials. “Kwara has a comparative advantage in agriculture. But our farming communities don’t have facilities that will encourage investment. So we will concentrate, basically, on building infrastructure such as roads, health facilities, schools and opening up our communities to the world through stable electricity and internet connectivity,” he noted.

While asked to sum up is strategy for enthroning good governance, Abdulrazaq said: “Basically, Kwara requires urgent dismantling of the current political mercantilism which stifles development, encourages laziness and thuggery and dehumanises our people. This will free up resources to serve the people.”

  • Thugs connive with Police to terrorize Electorates – Famurewa

The APC Senatorial candidate in Osun East senatorial district in the postponed presidential/national assembly elections, Hon. Ajibola Israel Famurewa has alleged threat to the lives of the people of eight villages in Atakumosa East local government of the state of Osun by thugs loyal to the PDP and one Chief Francis Fadahunsi, the PDP candidate.
Famurewa, a serving member of the House of Representative representing Ijesa South federal constituency and the Director General of the campaign organization of the incumbent governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola made this known when he led party leaders and other APC candidates to address a press conference on the security challenges of his zone after a meeting with the commissioner of police, Abiodun Ige at the state headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital.
It was authoritatively reported that residents of Iwara, Olowu, Atorin, Ifewara, Temidayo, Tobalase, Lapaide and Faforiji communities in Atakunmosa East Local Government of Osun state were on Thursday thrown into confusion when gunmen suspected to be armed political thugs attacked villagers in the build up to postponed  Saturday elections.
In the attack which was said to have occurred around 11:30pm, on Thursday evening, where an eleven years old girl, Rukayat Balogun was shot  in the leg by the suspected political thugs who invaded Iwara village and searched indiscriminately all the houses in the affected community. It was learnt that the mother of the victim, Mrs Fasilat is an active member and a food vendor in the O – Meal school feeding programme of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the area.
Famurewa who expressed worries about the influx of thugs into the villages said for over a week now, the suspected thugs have been terrorizing people of the areas especially the supporters of the All Progressives Congress APC, mainly because Atakumosa East was won convincingly by the APC in the last guber election despite the huge financial inducements by the PDP.
According to him, a team of thugs led by Sanya Omirin and Folorunsho Aderibigbe popularly known as “Serere” searched, ransacked every household and started unleashing terror on houses accommodating APC supporters.
“The thugs were said to have armed with dangerous weapons like guns, axes and charms were moving around freely for four hours which the operation lasted. The mother of the eleven years old girl who is currently receiving treatment in the Wesley Guild hospital Ilesa also confirmed that Serere led the gangsters to her house when the honourable minister of health, Prof. Isaac Adewole paid an unscheduled visit on the recuperating girl whose leg was strayed with bullets.
“I have told Chief Fadahunsi times without number to desist from nurturing thugs. The information at my disposal indicates that Chief Fadahunsi bought and imported 100 guns (60 AK47 and 40 pump actions) into Osun. I told him to his face that election is not a do or die affair.”
While calling on the Police to swing into action and ensure the perpetrators are arrested, investigated and brought into book to face the full wrath of justice, Famurewa accused the DPO in charge of Iperindo division, saying he is conniving with PDP thugs to unleash terror on his supporters.
Other leaders on his entourage, which included Chief Adebiyi Adelowo, Hon. Lawrence Ayeni, Hon. Wale Adedoyin also advised the Commissioner of police to transfer all the DPOs in Ijesaland to forestall total breakdown of law and order. In their words, “Though we have appealed to our members and supporters to remain calm in the face of provocation, but let it be known that we are resolute in our determination to resist violence and intimidation in our land”, they concluded.
