“We remain loyal to the leadership of the party at all levels and stand firmly behind His Excellency, Governor Umar Namadi, whose developmental strides and inclusive governance continue to uplift Jigawa State”.

Uba added that, “We trust that the party will act swiftly and decisively in the interest of justice, peace, and party supremacy”.

The coalition condemned the allege Inciting, inflammatory, and derogatory statements said to have been made against the governor of state, Malam Umar Namadi and the leadership of the party.

Oborevwori tasks APC members, Deltans on voter registration

Delta state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to intensify efforts in mobilising eligible voters, particularly those yet to be registered, to participate in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor made the call on Tuesday at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, during an enlarged meeting of party leaders at the ward, local government, and state levels.

He emphasised that all citizens who attained the age of 18 since the last registration in 2022 should be encouraged to register in order to exercise their franchise in the 2027 general elections.

Oborevwori explained that the meeting was convened to further strengthen the bond of unity among party stakeholders, stressing that with a united front, the APC was poised for victory at all levels.

He assured of his synergy with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the collective good of the state and the nation, even as he applauded the commitment of APC leaders at the ward, local government and state levels to the growth and development of the party.

“With unity in our party, no other political party can defeat the APC. We are performing well at the federal level, and we are equally doing well here in the state. The issue of voters’ registration is very important, and we must take it seriously. From the ward level, ensure that those who could not register before are captured this time,” the Governor said.

In his remarks, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, reminded elected and appointed members of the party of their duty to return to their wards and local governments to mobilise registrants.

He noted that working as a team remained the surest way to advance the “Renewed Hope for More Agenda.”

Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman of the party, Elder Omeni Sobotie who underscored the importance of unity, urged members of the party to continue to work together in order to enhance the electoral fortunes of the party in future elections in the state.

Also speaking, a party stakeholder, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, appealed to aggrieved members to bury their differences and work in unity for the growth of the APC and the overall development of the state.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, said the gathering was primarily convened to consolidate party unity and raise awareness for the ongoing voter registration exercise.

He stressed that unity and loyalty were indispensable for the party’s success in the 2027 polls.

“Our first and most important takeaway from this meeting is the unity of the party because without unity, there can be no loyalty.

“The second is ensuring that all eligible young people turning 18 are captured in the ongoing registration. Once this is done, the 2027 general elections will be a walkover for our party,” Onojeghuo added.

South East youth leaders endorse Orji Kalu as APC’s face for 2027 elections

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex socio-political youth organisation in the South East, has thrown its weight behind Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), describing him as the face of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Okey Nwaoru, the group said recent attacks directed at Senator Kalu from “certain quarters” were motivated by his rising political profile and growing influence within the APC.

“Senator Kalu is a transformative leader whose contributions have significantly elevated the standard of governance in Abia North. His dedication to public service, development initiatives and unwavering commitment to the APC have positioned him as a beacon of hope for our people,” COSEYL said.

The group added that the senator’s performance in the National Assembly had set a new benchmark for quality representation since the return of democracy in 1999.

“The people of Abia North are particularly grateful for his impactful leadership. His visionary projects and proactive approach have transformed the socio-economic landscape of our region. It is no surprise that under his leadership, we confidently predict an overwhelming 95 per cent support for the APC in the forthcoming elections,” the statement read.

COSEYL also expressed confidence that Kalu’s partnership with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would yield further gains for the region. “We anticipate that the citizens of Abia North will not only rally behind Senator Kalu but will also vote massively for President Tinubu, recognising the synergy and transformative power of their leadership,” it said.

While dismissing criticisms against the lawmaker as “desperate attempts to undermine a proven leader,” the youth body urged citizens of Abia North to remain united in their support.

“Abia North deserves continued progress, and this can only be guaranteed through continuity of proven, results-oriented leadership. We at COSEYL affirm that 2027 is a done deal. The good people of Abia North are ready to show their appreciation for the dynamic performance of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” the statement concluded.

The member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Nkemkanma Kama, has formally announced resignation from the Labour Party (LP).

In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of the party in Amaze Ward, Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area, Kama said the decision to leave the party was taken after “extensive consultations with my immediate family, political associates, and well-wishers.”

A copy of the letter dated 16th July, 2025 went viral on social media on Tuesday.

The lawmaker, who won his seat during the last general elections under the Labour Party banner, expressed deep appreciation to the party leadership and members for the trust and support that enabled him to secure victory.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Labour Party for the platform given to me to contest and win the last general election as the House of Representatives member under its banner,” he wrote.

“The trust and support of the party leadership and members have been instrumental in our journey so far, and I will forever cherish these relationships.”

Kama highlighted the progress achieved with the party in advancing democratic ideals and promoting the welfare of his constituents, but noted that his resignation was a necessary step.

While he did not immediately disclose his next political destination, his resignation is expected to spark speculations in Ebonyi political circles, given his rising influence and active role in the National Assembly.

Kama assured his supporters that his passion for service remains strong, pledging to continue working for the people irrespective of party affiliation.

“I sincerely appreciate the support, camaraderie, and shared vision that defined my time in the Labour Party and I hope that we will continue to work as patriots in the pursuit of a better society. I wish the Labour Party continued success in its endeavours,” he concluded.

The development marks a significant shake-up within the Labour Party in Ebonyi State as Mr Kama is regarded as one of its most prominent elected officials from the Southeast.

Though he did not disclose the party he will join, political observers believe his next move will be to join the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) which has consistently wooed him to join its ranks.

Governor Francis Nwifuru had in December last year during the Lawmakers empowerment program in his Amaeze Community, Ishiagu in Ivo local government area openly urged him to join the APC.

APC sweeps to victory in 20 Rivers councils

    APC won in the council.

The formal announcement of the results by Michael Odey, chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), immediately elicited excitement from the Southsouth Chairman of the APC, Chief Victor Giadom and former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Chibudom Nwuche.

Giadom described the outcome as a reflection of people’s confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while Nwuche commended the people for having confidence in the APC.

The three PDP candidates and their local government areas are Dr. Gift Worlu,  Obio-Akpor,  with 328,823 votes; Chukwu Ogbodo, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA, 51,051 votes and  Allwell Ohunda, Port Harcourt LGA, 235,054 votes.

A breakdown of election results showed that the APC won the  20 councils with 1,426,871 votes while the PDP won three with 614,928 votes.   Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor LGAs, the two densely populated urban areas, contributed significant numbers of the votes.

Before announcing the result, Odey described the poll as a milestone in the state’s democratic process.

“Today marks an important milestone in the democratic process in Rivers State. Yesterday(Saturday), the people of Rivers State trooped out in their numbers to exercise their civic duty.

“It is now our responsibility as a commission and in line with the law to transparently and credibly present the outcome of their collective will,’’ he said.

Odey lauded all the stakeholders in the process for their cooperation and commitment to a peaceful election process.

An elated Giadom said the people at the grassroots understood the good intentions of President Tinubu and decided to support him by voting for the APC.

He said: “This is a reflection of the belief and the confidence the people of Rivers at the grassroots have in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has brought to us purposeful leadership and development.

“What we had in Rivers is a united front for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where all shades of political opinions have come together with the intention to foster the growth and stability of the country.

“We can’t count all the wonderful things that the local government has earned from the APC-led government. We are very grateful to President Tinubu for all the things he has done to improve on the people at the grassroots.”

Giadom cited the massive reconstruction work along the East-West Road and the near completion of the Bodo-Bonny Highway, among others, as the reason for the people’s support for the President.

Besides, he said the President had generously appointed many sons and daughters of the state into various positions in his government.

His words: “If we drive on the Bodo-Bonny Road, we will see that what is left for that road to be completed is less than 10 per cent of the entire project. This is a monumental transformation of change that has been brought to the communities.

“We owe President Bola Tinubu support. I am sure that we can see what is happening on the Eleme axis of the East-West Road. The stretch of that road had been completed, and we are talking about a concrete pavement road with reinforcement. This has never happened before.

“That road has been in a state of disrepair as long as I have been. But today you can fly on the right wing of the road, and work is ongoing in the other part of it. These are monumental changes President Bola Tinubu has brought to the lives of our people.

“So we owe him support and peace. And we must always get back to our community to preach peace and to make sure that the area is peaceful so that we can always benefit from the purposeful leadership of Mr President.”

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Southsouth Development Commission (SSDC), Nwuche, commended the people for coming out en masse to cast their votes.

He also hailed  RSIEC  for the successful conduct of the election, saying he was particularly thrilled by the early arrival of voting materials at the polling units and the timely commencement of accreditation.

Nwuche, who monitored the election as an observer, especially in Ahoada East and Ahoada West council areas, also said there were no reports of violence or disturbances in any part of the state.

He appealed to the incoming chairmen and councillors to use their offices to ensure the development of their councils and to pursue the interests of the people.

The SSDC chairman commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring peace and order in the state through the declaration of a state of emergency.

He said the Sole Administrator, Retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, had effectively managed the state by restoring peace and supervising one of the most credible LGA polls in recent times to restore democratic governance at the grassroots in the state.

Nwuche said:” I saw the massive turnout of voters. They voted peacefully, and the police did their jobs. Materials arrived on time. The crowd was incredible. I also went to Ahoada West and saw the crowd at the polling units.

“It was a free and fair election. I commend RISIEC for doing a wonderful job in a very short time. Public office is a trust. If you are lucky enough to be elected as the chairman of the council, you must endeavour to deploy resources for the welfare of the people and not for your personal aggrandisement.”

  • APC deputy women leader calls for adoption of ‘twinning formula’ to boost female political participation

APC deputy women leader calls for adoption of ‘twinning formula’ to boost female political participation

The National Deputy Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Zainab Ibrahim, has urged the party to adopt the twinning formula as a strategy to increase women’s inclusion in politics.

Speaking in Abuja during an advocacy programme at the weekend, Ibrahim described the formula as the “lowest hanging fruit” for enhancing women’s political participation.

She explained that in several countries, the model reserves positions such as vice president, deputy governor, and vice chairman in party structures and governance exclusively for women.

Ibrahim appealed to the APC to lead by example, stressing that if the ruling party had embraced the formula, there would currently be 24 female deputy governors across APC-controlled states.

“Apart from the special seat advocacy that we are undertaking, we are also strongly advocating for twinning. The twinning does not even require any National Assembly (legislation). It does not require anything. It’s just a policy by a political party.

“In New York in 2016. I was at a conference and I met the Vice President of the Gambia who was a woman and I asked her, Gambia is an Islamic country how come you became the Vice President? She told me all their governors have deputy governors as women because the ruling party adopted the twinning formula.

“So you see, it is just a policy pronouncement by the party, and then it becomes. Now, if my party, APC, should adopt the twinning formula, we have 24 states APC controls, and we would have had 24 deputy governors.

“So to me, the lowest hanging fruit to women inclusion in politics is the twinning formula, and we are working strongly on it. You know, the special seats bill will have some legislative backing at the end of the day but when a party formulates a formula, it is subject to changes and that is why we are paying more attention to that of the special seats bill.

“But we are also doing a very high level advocacy for the twinning formula because countries that have attained up to 50% and more like Namibia, Rwanda adopted the twinning formula….by the grace of God, it can even be achieved faster than the special seats bill.”

Ibrahim, who doubles as deputy national secretary of the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), said she will use her position to spread the policy along all the political parties in the country.

“I head the women directorate created by IPAC. IPAC has three directorates, the women, youth, and people with disabilities. I head the directorate of women of IPAC. So, my relationship is not just with women of APC. I deal with every party card carrying member who is a woman in Nigeria.

“Under my directorate, I have the 19 national women 6 under them, we have the 37 state women leaders. Under them, it cascaded down to unit level. So my relationship is not just with APC state women leaders. I deal with every woman leader of every political party and we are working hand-in-hand,” she added.

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) member furthet argued that the policy is not new to the country, citing Kogi state, where the former governor mandated all the local government chairmen in the state to pick female running mates.

“Now, we have some states who have already adopted that, like when Yahaya Bello was governor in Kogi, all the local government chairmen, the vice chairmen were women. That is what we call twinning formula. So we are now waiting to see such become a policy especially of the leading political parties in Nigeria who have a large number of states they control,” Ibrahim said.

To drive home their demand, the Woman Leader said the women folks in the country may want to have the formula as a bargaining abd negotiating power in future elections.

“Every governor that tells us, number one, his deputy is going to be a woman, every local government vice chairman is going to be a woman. What else do we want from any governor, rather than to give him our 100 percent support?

“I believe that Mr President, sooner or later, is going to adopt that for us and you will see how every Nigerian woman will support Mr President, by the grace of God.”

No fewer than 200 businesswomen across the 332 wards in Osun State benefitted from the business grant of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu to boost their means of livelihood.

However, she lamented that they were short changed by Osun First Lady, Mrs Titilayo Adeleke, who allegedly deliberately reduced their slots despite pleas that it should be increased to 250/300.

She said: “When I went to meet the First Lady of Osun State at Government House, she first said she would give us 100 slots against 300 that ought to be given to us, I opposed the proposal, until we were given 200. Even they she still short changed us. That is not fair.”

But Chief Press Secretary to Osun First Lady, Adeleke Adewale, denied the claim, saying, “They were never short changed. The empowerment is for 500 people and they were given 200. We use to carry them along for all grants or gesture from the Federal Government.”
