Meanwhile the Secretary to the Borno State Government Amb. Baba Jida told reporters at the collation center that the performance of the party at the Saturday’s presidential elections has exceeded the expectations of many, adding that the party is cruising to victory.

“In view of the constraints faced by Borno, we feel that the people have done well to exercise their right to vote. Under the circumstance that our people have found themselves, we have done very well.

“From what we have, the APC have approximately 95 per cent while the PDP have slightly 5 per cent. The turnout is not very good and it should be expected. By the time the result from southern Borno and that of Jere and MMC come in it may improve the figures we have. People are happy to participate in the election.

“The APC is cruising to landslide victory. We have done better than we thought. I am sure our opponents are struggling to get maybe just 25 per cent in Borno state but from the look of things, they are not likely to get more than 10 per cent,” Amb. Baba Jida said.

APC leaders, members protest election in Rivers

The leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State on Sunday  protested in Port Harcourt, presidential and National Assembly elections without result sheets, with the polls marred by violence and killings across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The protesters, who moved round Port Harcourt and later got to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Aba Road, called for fresh elections and transfer of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dame Gesila Khan, for allegedly taking sides with the leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Khan was also accused of releasing the original result sheets to the Rivers governorship candidate of the PDP, Chief Nyesom Wike, a former Minister of State for Education, and other leaders of the party, with colour photocopies given to the Electoral Officers across the 23 LGAs of the state, which they allegedly used to write fake results.

Khan, however, said: “It is a lie and cheap blackmail. It is not possible to hand over original result sheets to politicians, especially with the security numbers on them. They should concentrate on campaigning and allow me to do my job.”

Among the APC’s protesters were the Rivers governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside; his running mate, Okorie Honourable Asita; Senator Magnus Abe; Chief Tony Okocha; Rivers commissioners; federal and state lawmakers, among other eminent personalities.

Peterside, his supporters and APC members maintained that they did not vote on Saturday.

The determined protesters ignored the heavy security on Aba Road, especially between Waterlines Bus Stop and GRA Junction, thereby moving to the gate of the INEC headquarters, near the corporate headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Don’t tamper with election results – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned against any attempt to tamper with the results of the elections that were concluded nationwide on Saturday, saying Nigerians have voted peacefully and massively and they know who they have voted for.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said it has the authentic results from all polling units where voting took place on Saturday, and will not accept anything contrary to those signed results.

It decried the dangerous kite now being flown by the Peoples Democratic Party, through some of their paid media channels, seeking to appropriate unearned victories across the nation.

”We have always said we will accept the result of any free, fair and transparent elections. We stand by that avowal. However, what we will not accept and which we are sure Nigerians themselves will reject is any move to rewrite the results and thwart the will of the people under any guise. We will not accept that.

”We have heard of the desperate moves to cancel the results in areas where the APC has beaten the PDP embarrassingly. Nigerians will definitely not accept that,” APC said.

The party said it is aware of the ongoing efforts to force Electoral Officers and Presiding Officers in Imo State, some of whom are being picked up by the military as we write, to rewrite the results of the elections in the state.

”We have the results from every polling unit in Imo State and we know that we have won in over 80 per cent in the presidential election. So there must be no shenanigans,” it warned.

APC also said the same attempts are being made in Sokoto, Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos and other states, wondering why anyone will be seeking to reverse the results that are already settled.

”In the Nsukka Local Government Area, INEC officials, instead of collating results, handed over the exercise to PDP Nsukka zone to write. They holed up inside ADADA HOUSE (a Local Government guest house) to write results and change figures, and were provided with security by the police. APC candidates and agents were chased away. In collaboration with INEC, they refused to let the card readers function and no result sheets came to most polling booths.

”In Lagos, they have yet to announce the result of the Apapa Local Government which has been ready since yesterday, apparently in a move to manipulate the outcome. Those who voted will not agree with any attempt to steal their votes,” the party warned.

PDP accuses APC of posting fake results

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to disregard “misleading figures being circulated by the All Progressives Congress (APC)” in the social media as results of the presidential and National Assembly elections in some polling booths.

A statement issued on Sunday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the figures were “fake” and do not represent the true results which are currently being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC, the only body authorised to release and announce results.

The statement said: “The APC in its desperation for power has resorted to posting fake results in the social media in a bid to ambush the electoral commission, mislead the unsuspecting public to believe it is winning, all in furtherance of its grand plot to cause confusion and set the stage for violence when the authentic results are finally released.

“We therefore alert Nigerians to be on their guard and close ranks in resisting the APC’s plot to plunge the nation into chaos and anarchy. Our democracy has come to stay and the will of the people must prevail over and above the parochial ambition of a selfish few.

“Finally, we strongly caution the APC against its acts of desperation and use of dishonest methods including physical attacks against our members and supporters as these pose great threat to our democracy, the unity and stability of our dear nation.”

Voting was still ongoing as at 8pm.

When the last person on the queue voted, the electoral officer announced that counting would begin.

But a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent, who gave her name as S. Otazi, complained that several people were yet to vote.

She said some went home when there were hitches and could return to vote.

The electoral officer then stopped the counting and returned the ballot papers to the boxes. Only about three more people voted afterwards.

      INEC preparation: Lagosians express concern
    • By Muyiwa Lucas

Accreditation started at around 10am in Moses Adebayo Unit, Ojodu, Ikeja LGA. Despite the heavy downpour, the electorates where not discouraged as they stayed put.

However, as at 4:30 pm, two-third of the accredited voters was yet to cast their votes. This is due to the slow process of INEC officials here. The fear now is that a lot of voters may be disenfranchised.

No provision is made for illumination should the voting extend into the night.

In Isheri, Kosofe Local Government Area, the situation is not palatable. As at 4:35pm, not a single vote has been casted in the entire area.

Similarly, in Ward G, Isheri, voters were seen waiting anxiously for ballot papers to arrive. In Wilmer unit, still in Isheri, not a single INEC official was sighted till 4:40pm.

Kayode Oyedele, a voter in Ward G, told The Nation correspondence that it is unfortunate that INEC has shown lack of preparedness for the election regardless of the huge money they were given to conduct the election.

Oyedele and several other voters in the Ward express worries that they might not have a chance to contribute to electing their leader.

“We are sad that INEC has disenfranchised us as a people and as a community. We had a peaceful accreditation; sadly, it is 4:30pm now and we can’t find a single ballot paper in the entire Isheri community which has over 7, 000 voters,” Oyedele said.

Women Arise leader, Dr. Joe Odumakin, in a chat with shortly after casting her vote in Moses Adebayo unit, said so far, reports reaching her across several other places are not impressive.

She said that there have been cases of INEC machines not working in some places like Magodo Shangisha, Mowe Ibafo, etc. “My team has just called from Kogi state now, and we hear that people are finding it difficult to vote in places like Ogori-magongo, Okene, Kabba, Ankpa, amongst others.

It is a worrisome development, but let’s just be calm until the voting is over,” Odumakin said.

    INEC extends voting till Sunday

    • The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended voting during the Presidential and National Elections to Sunday in problem areas
It directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners in the country to conduct election on
Sunday in areas where there were hitches.
It said it has also relocated all the contents on its website to another site following hacking by some elements.
It however said it could not still exactly say what went wrong in Otuoke, Bayelsa State which led to the delay in the accreditation of President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan.
The Chairman of INEC Committee on Information and Voters Education, Mr. Chris Iyimoga, who addressed the press at the Media Centre of the National Collation Centre in Abuja, said with some hitches in some parts of the country, there was no way the Presidential and National Assembly Elections could be concluded today (Saturday) .
He said: “Each REC has been informed to conduct election on Sunday where there are hitches with accreditation or voting. I cannot say exactly the number of states affected but the problems are not in all the states.”

APC seeks more time for accreditation and voting, hail Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked INEC to extend the time for accreditation and voting to make up for the delay being experienced across the country by the use of card readers.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said extending the time for accreditation and voting will ensure that Nigerians who have queued up patiently at their polling units as early as 8 am will not be disenfranchised.
It also urged INEC to recognize the letters from the various political party agents, since INEC was not able to fulfill its promise to accredit party agents, which used to be done by the parties themselves.

    From Abdulgafar Alabelewe, Kaduna
The accreditation for the election process has so far been peaceful and orderly in Kaduna with Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo being accredited under two minutes.

The Vice President and his wife, Hajia Amina Sambo were accredited at polling unit 011, Swimming Pool road, by Police College gate in Kaduna.

Sambo who arrived the polling unit at exactly 11:18am was accredited within two minutes with card reader.

Speaking after his accreditation, the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate gave pass mark to INEC for the card reader and called on Nigerians to come out and exercise their franchise.

‎Meanwhile, the accreditation exercise has been peaceful and orderly at most of the polling units visited.

Though hitches were earlier recorded with the card readers, they have since been working‎ perfectly at all the polling units visited.

However, against the initial fear of voters’ intimidation by security presence in the states, no soldier has so far been sighted at any polling unit. As at the time of filling this report, only policemen were seen at polling units.

The card readers at the polling centres; 040,042,045,046 and 039 did not work.
Voters were shocked when a team of policemen stormed the centres and evacuated the INEC officials.
Efforts made by frustrated voters to prevent the policemen from stopping the exercise were met with resistance as the policemen shot sporadically.
Angry voters later embarked on street protest condemning the aborted exercise.
A voter,Mrs Oroja Giwa said: ” I am angry .The conduct of the policemen is questionable because we have been disenfranchised. They have moved the INEC officials to undisclosed location. We suspected foul play because the policemen were accompanied by some PDP loyalists.”

Obasanjo said: “it is a constitutional issue and every four years whether for all elective officers in Nigeria, we must go through this ritual. What I have gone through is very okay. They checked my card, my finger print and they said it was okay and that I should come back and vote.”
On voters card, the former President said: “some people have not gotten all the cards but at this hour there is not much anybody can do. What we do hope is that the election that will come two weeks now maybe those without cards now will have their cards then.”

I have faith in the electoral process- Senator Tinubu
Despite standing for over two hours, awaiting the arrival of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials to commence accreditation of voters for the presidential and national assembly elections, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said she still has faith in the electoral process.Tinubu, the incumbent Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, got to her 034 polling unit along Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, at about 7:55am and expressed her displeasure at the lateness of the INEC officials.“You can see that we are ready. The people have been standing here since morning waiting for INEC to commence the process but we have not seen them yet.“But I am hopeful and still believe in the process because I know my people are enlightened and they will wait patiently and exercise their rights.“The system is not working and by God’s grace Nigeria will be where it’s supposed to be with this election. It is a shame and the world is watching us.“But I still have faith in the credibility of the process because I know the people will do the right things so that at the end of the day, the election will be acceptable to all.“I am really not surprised at the delay because it was expected. Obviously INEC is ready only on paper. Practically they are not ready. It is a good thing that the people are here and have remained orderly. Jonathan, wife finally accredited

    Joseph Jiibueze

President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife have finally been accredited to vote in the election.

They were both accredited through the voters list following the failure of the card reader to recognize their cards.

President Jonathan had earlier left Unit 39 in Ward 13, Otuoke where the card readers failed to read his Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

It was an awkward situation as two of the cards readers in the unit failed to read the president’s PVC.

The machines also could not verify his wife’s PVC.

Electoral officers battled to make the cards work, but to no avail.

They were even overheard arguing among themselves.

One of them said: “Go and bring another card reader from a close-by unit.”

The officers sent for another card reader from a nearby polling unit, which eventually worked, but still could not read the president and his wife’s PVCs.

Only President Jonathan’s mother and his ADC were accredited.

The president arrived at about 9.20am for accreditation, and stood till about 10.05 am when he addressed the media and left with his wife and aides.

The president continued to smile as he stood waiting for the machines to work, but none did.

Tired, his wife Patience sat down, fanning herself.

The president arrived in a motorcade at 9.20am, and chided the electoral officers for not starting the accreditation on time.

As at the time he arrived, no one had been accredited.

The president told the presiding officer: “I decided to come in a little late. I don’t need to be the first person to be accredited. You should have started before now. By 8am you should have started.”

President Jonathan stood patiently for over 45 minutes without asking for a seat.

After his mother was successfully accredited, he spoke to her in his local dialect, apparently urging her to keep her PVC intact.

When his PVC could not be read by the machine, the president said: “Try my wife’s own.”

He later asked his wife, who put on her sunglasses, if she had been accredited, and she said no.

“Why is it that they didn’t start on time,” the president asked again.

Jonathan’s ADC handed him a phone, and he was overheard saying: “Chairman, have you been briefed about…? Across the country what’s the situation?”

After listening, he ended the call and handed the phone over to his ADC.

However, after the President left, the card readers were able to verify the PVCs of other registered voters.

The president did not fill any form before leaving. He is expected back at his unit for voting.

    Empty roads

    By Joe Agbro Jr
    07:44 am

The country woke on Saturday, ready for the 2015 presidential elections. In Lagos, as  early as 5am, the usual morning rush was absent. Only few motorists and people were seen on major roads across the metropolis.

Ipaja road, Iju road, Oba Ogunji road, Oba Akran road, Kodesho Street, and Mobolaji Bank road were virtually empty. Even commercial buses stayed off the roads as only very few were sighted.

At Ikeja Under Bridge, the only noticeable buzz was the activities of newspaper sellers who scurried to distribute the newspapers to waiting vendors.

While army personnel placed barricades at spots in Agege and Iyana Ipaja and searched booths of vehicles moving before the 7am restriction of movement, police officers gathered in formation, ready to ensure a hitch-free polls.

South West, North favour APC’s Buhari

•South South, South East go for Jonathan •Massive turnout nationwide

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari seems to have found favour with most of the voters in four of the nation’s six geo-political zones in yesterday’s election.

General Buhari, according to indications from across the country, got the nod of most voters in the Northwest, Northcentral, Northeast and Southwest, in what observers, local and foreign, described as the nation’s most crucial polls ever.

His performance matches substantially The Nation’s projections on the elections.

Nigerians defied all odds -erratic performance of the card readers, late arrival of electoral materials, rain, thuggery, manipulation  and terrorism mainly in the Northeast -to troop out possibly as never before   to vote for the next president, senators and members of the House of Representatives.

In Sokoto, Makurdi, Akure, Jos, Minna, Abeokuta, Abuja, Lagos, Benin, the story was the same of enthusiastic Nigerians determined to take their destiny in their hands.

General Buhari, accompanied by his wife, Aisha, voted in his Daura, Katsina home town after accreditation with the aid of the card reader which took no more than two minutes each.

But accreditation was a tough nut for President Goodluck Jonathan and the First Lady, Patience , at the president’s Otuoke hometown.

Four times they tried to use the card reader to verify their finger prints, four times they failed.

The President’s mother, Madam Eunice, passed the card reader’s test easily.

Jonathan’s   verification and his wife’s were eventually done manually, the same method adopted in other places where the card reader failed.

INEC extends voting; website hacked into, restored

Following complaints from other parts of the country about the inability of the card readers to identify voters’ finger prints, and to avoid disenfranchising voters, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) granted extension  of voting till today at polling stations where accreditation could not be completed on time yesterday.

As it battled with complaints of malfunctioning card readers, a group calling itself Nigerian Cyber Army/Team NCA hacked into the commission’s website

However, INEC’s computer engineers went to work as soon as the hacking was detected and were able to re-host it.

The hackers posted the following on the website: “StruCk By Nigerian Cyber Army | TeaM NCA”

“Sorry xD Your Site has been STAMPED by TeaM Nigerian Cyber Army FEEL SOME SHAME ADMIN!!”

“Security is just an illusion, Remember US :DGREETINGS OF PEACE TO CITIZEN OF NIGERIA FROM TEAM NCA NIGERIANS No Body Can Give You Freedom No Body Can Give You Equality Or Justice If You Are A Man/Woman YOU TAKE IT”

The Commission directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners in the country to conduct election on  Sunday in areas where there were hitches.

The list of the affected areas and states was still being kept under wraps as at the time of filing this report.

INEC however said it could not still exactly say what went wrong in Otuoke, Bayelsa State which led to the delay in the accreditation of President Jonathan and his wife.

The Chairman of the Information, Voter Education and Publicity Committee of INEC, Dr. Chris Iyimoga, at a press conference in Abuja admitted that INEC encountered some challenges in the use of Card Readers.

He said the guidelines for the 2015 General Elections had been amended to empower Presiding Officers to “manually accredit voters by marking the register of voters, upon being satisfied that the person presenting a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is the legitimate holder of the card.”

Flanked by other National Commissioners including Dr. Ishmael Igbani; Alh. Muhammadu Wali; Nuru Yakubu; and Gladys Nwafor, Iyimoga said INEC will “thoroughly investigate what happened in some parts of the country where hitches were recorded.”

His words: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been monitoring field reports on the accreditation process since the commencement of the poll this morning.

“Whereas the process has gone well in several places, in some others it has encountered some challenges, especially with the use of the Card Readers. Consequently, accreditation has been slow in many places and has not commenced at all in some others.

“Even though the Guidelines for the Conduct of the 2015 General Elections provide that where Card Readers fail to work and cannot be replaced, elections in such Polling Units will be postponed to the following day, the scale of challenge we have observed today has necessitated a reconsideration of this provision of the Guidelines.

“The Commission, has, therefore, decided as part of the Guidelines for the conduct of the 2015 General Elections that in Polling Units where Card Readers have so far failed to work, the Presiding Officer shall manually accredit voters by marking the register of voters, upon being satisfied that the person presenting a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is the legitimate holder of the card.

“The above notwithstanding, in Polling Units where accreditation was suspended to the following day in accordance with the existing guidelines, arrangements will be made for voters to vote tomorrow, subject to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010( as amended).

“The Commission reassures the voting public that it will thoroughly investigate what happened, while it remains committed to the delivery of free, fair and credible elections in spite of the challenges.”

Iyimoga, who responded to questions from newsmen with his fellow National Commissioners, said all the 37  Resident Electoral Commissioners(RECs) had been directed to conduct poll on Sunday where there were hitches.

He added: “We cannot say at the word go now but  each REC of the Federation has been informed. The problems are not in all the states of the country but in a few states of the country and each of the RECs has  been informed. We can only get the details at the end of the day.

He said generally the commencement time was quite  good across all borders.

He said:  “Generally we commenced accreditation at a very good time, in FCT for instance we had a problem with the Union of Transport workers but that was sorted out.

“I want to assure we have made progress,. In fact I had to vsit the office of Resident Electoral Commissioner of the FCT and while there two observer teams, including that of the US Ambassador, were on ground to see us. They had  gone round a number of Polling Units and at about 12 noon, about 85-90 per cent where he visited he was very impressed. And this cuts across. This does not mean we don’t have challenges in other states.

“In a few other states of course there were still some challenges but generally the commencement time was quite  good across all borders.

“Like we said and we will keep saying, we can only do our best but there are still other parameters that take us through what we can call an excellent election.

“The process of election has to do with many people. Remember that for our adhoc staff to move out, for instance, we decided to decentralize the process. Sensitive materials were kept in the CBN vault and  in one of the day or so they were taken to INEC offices in the states.

“By Thursday they were distributed to Local Government Areas, and then took them down toward level and at the Registration Area Centres (RACS) the items were kept. The belief therefore was that as early as 5.30 to 6am, movement to the various Polling Units would have commenced but INEC does not move alone, before you move there must be security backup.

“So there are numbers of issues and processes that go through making the entire thing play well. Generally it has been quite impressive apart from these few challenges I just talked about right now.

On the delay in accrediting President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, a National Commissioner, Dr. Ishmael Igbani, said INEC could not say what went wrong.

Igbani said: “No one can really say what went wrong. The machine, the Card Reader did not pick the finger print of Mr President and Wife but those who were attended to earlier on their finger prints were picked.

“But part of the process in using the Card Reader is that when such a situation occurs, we will use the incident report and that is what the President and the wife were accredited to vote.”

Regarding the hacking of INEC website, Engr. Nuru Yakubu said all the contents on the website had been relocated to another site.

He said: “Our ICT experts reported that our website was hacked and that it was down, and they worked very hard and were able to rectify the problem by simple lifting all the contents on our site and relocating it to another location.

“So the INEC website as I speak with you now is up and running.”

I hope to win, says Jonathan after voting

President Jonathan, after his accreditation, later returned to polling Unit 39, Ward 13 to cast his vote.

Asked by reporters about his chances in the election, he said “You can see that it’s peaceful everywhere. I believe and I’m convinced that the elections will be free and fair and extreme credible.”

He said the gunfire in Gombe was not related to election, adding that the shooting was between soldiers and insurgents attempting to escape from the Sambisa forest.

The president refused to blame the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the hitches encountered in some areas, saying everyone could still vote with the alternative arrangements.

“We appreciate the patience of those who are yet to vote. They should sympathise with INEC. It wants to use the card readers to make sure that our electoral process is credible and acceptable by international observers.

“This is the first time we are voting with the card readers. There have been some issues in some units, but we should bear with them. I believe that at the end of the day we all will be happy,” Jonathan said.

Asked about his assessment of the election based on information available to him, he said: “I have information but it is not everything that I can say. INEC has the responsibility to talk about their functions. There are complaints about PVCs and card readers not working.

“At the same time INEC has directed that in polling units where the card readers are not working, they should take the manual option, so I believe all Nigerians who want to vote will definitely vote, and that is the good news.

“The only thing is that some people probably must have stayed there longer than necessary. But I still plead with them that even if they spend 24 hours for the sake of this country, please they should bear with us, they should do it,” he said.

On INEC, Jonathan said the government is one, and the commission cannot be held solely responsible for the hitches.

He said: “I don’t blame anyone. But as a nation, we have different departments of government that handle responsibilities. The issue of election is INEC’s exclusive responsibility, and nobody will speak for them.”

Few hiccups can’t undermine these election, says Buhari

Gen. Buhari, speaking to reporters in Daura after voting at Sarkin Yara A, Kofa Barau 3 polling unit in Liman ward  said  the hiccups in  a few places should not be allowed to undermine the integrity of the election.

The General who was wore a white babanriga , a stipend cap and black shoes to match arrived the polling unit at about 4.47 to a rousing reception and shouts  of  Sai Baba by voters  who were practically falling over each other to catch a glimpse of him.

He said: ” I like the integrity of the system. I am very pleased about it. That means that if people are allowed to vote, rigging will be virtually impossible. I think that INEC has done very well and I have said it to your colleagues elsewhere that from their presentations to the National Council of States which I happened to be a member, this time around, INEC has done extremely well”.

He however admitted that the card reader  failed to work in some areas, put expressed satisfaction with the decision of INEC to allow election to hold on Sunday in places where elections could not hold on Saturday.

“I must admit that again, I am happy with the decision take by INEC that in places where election has not taken place, it will take place tomorrow. From the information we are getting which has not been confirmed, there is failure of some of the card readers.

“For example, it took me less than five minutes for accreditation. When I came back home, I was watching on television and it took the President about 30 minutes to be accredited. But it took his wife and mother about two minutes each to do it. There is discrepancy in the performance of those gadgets. For INEC to give the notice that because of failure in some of the equipment, elections will continue tomorrow where elections did not happen today”.

On whether he would  accept the outcome of the election if the results did not go his own way, he said “My way is Nigeria’s way . Even before the first Abuja peace accord,I had told my supporters not to be rude or take up weapon against any Nigerian.

“After that, we signed the first Abuja accord presided over by Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations which we all signed as Presidential candidates and the recent one signed three days ago between me and Jonathan presided over by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Bishop Kukah and Bishop Onaiyekon and two others.

Speaking on the alleged intimidation of APC supporters in Rivers State, Buhari said he spoke with Governor Rotimi  Amaechi  ” and I think that what has been happening in Rivers state is a continuation of the hostility between the ruling party the APC. It is so real and the governor has been fighting and today, it got out of hand. ”

Sambo reverts to old polling booth

Vice-President Namadi Sambo and his wife, Amina   relocated from their old polling unit, Camp Road to Swimming Pool Road in Kabala Ward in Kaduna to vote yesterday .

The development might not be  unconnected with the outright defeat the VP faced in all the polls in the 2011 general elections.

But, Sambo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Umar Sani, said, the VP only reverted  to his original polling unit and commended INEC for bringing back Sambo and his wife to their original polling unit.

Sambo  himself who spoke to newsmen shortly after casting his votes, described the exercise as smooth and peaceful.

?Meanwhile, ?a man suspected to have fixed a network jammer in his car to disrupt the card readers escaped being lynched by irritate youths who queued to be accredited at Kasuwan Barchi area of Tudun Wada in Kaduna metropolis.

    ?

According to an eyewitness, the suspect jammed card readers at a polling unit in Tudun Wada from his car packed close to the polling unit.

His manipulation was said to have succeeded in stopping the card readers from working for some times.

Card Reader dysfunction not severe – PDP chair, Mu’azu

Reacting  yesterday to complaints about the card readers, the  PDP National Chairman, Malam Adamu Mu’azu,  said the situation was not as bad as being portrayed.

The percentage of the technical hitches encountered with  the card readers during the accreditation was not beyond tolerance, he said in his Boto, Bauchi State hometown.

He rejected calls for the cancellation of the use of Card Reader machines for the accreditation of voters.

“I cannot arbitrarily call for the cancellation of the usage of the Card Readers and the Permanent Voter Cards. I know professor Jega to be a successful and courageous intellectual and so far he has done very well,” Premium Times quoted him as saying.

APC raises alarm over use of FG facility in Lagos

    •Says leaders’ phones blocked

The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday raised the alarm over suspicious, election-related activities being carried out at the Federal Government Press on Mobil Road, Ajegunle, Lagos.

The party said workers at the facility were sent home early on Friday, apparently so it could   be made ready for use yesterday for a ‘presidency’ assignment.

The APC  National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement  that a  concerned Nigerian “alerted us to these developments, and we wonder what a federal government facility can be needed for on election day if it is not part of the facilities designated by INEC for election collation purpose.”

The party asked the  security agencies to urgently put the Federal Government Press at Mobil Road in Lagos under surveillance, with a view to stopping any possible illegal activities that may be going on there on this election day.’’

APC said with the avowed desperation of the PDP to capture Lagos State at all cost, it could  not  be trusted not to resort to underhand activities to manipulate the polls in the state, hence the alarm.

The party also alleged that the phone lines of its key leaders were bombarded with calls from an unknown number with a view to rendering them useless on election day.

It said the calls started coming in early yesterday and were “so persistent that genuine calls could not come in while no calls could be made from the phone lines.”

It said the phone line of the APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was hacked and used to send a message purportedly asking his supporters to vote for President Jonathan.

‘’We urge all our members and supporters, and indeed all Nigerians, to ignore the purported message as it did not emanate from Asiwaju,’’ APC said.

Besides, it said military uniforms were being issued to thugs at a military facility in Lagos.
