Ojelabi urged party faithfull o put aside their differences and work together towards winning the polls scheduled for July 12.

He emphasised the need for the party to showcase its strength and for members to contribute to the party’s success in the elections.

The chairman urged party members to highlight the achievements of President Bola Tinubu at the federal level, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the state level, and Senator Adetokunbo Abiru to the electorate, saying that voting for the APC would ensure the consolidation of these achievements.

Ojelabi expressed confidence that a united party would emerge victorious in the elections.

Anioma people laud APC, Tinubu for backing state creation

The Anioma people of Delta State, comprised of nine predominantly Igbo-speaking communities—including Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Ika North-East, Ika South, Oshimili North, Oshimili South, and Ukwuani local government areas—have expressed their gratitude to the government for its support regarding the establishment of a state for the Anioma people.

In a statement issued by Chief Osita Tonnie Oganah, the Director of Media and Publicity for the Anioma State creation request, the Anioma people specifically extended their thanks to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for facilitating the progression towards the establishment of their state. The public hearing related to this initiative is scheduled to commence on July 4, 2025.

The statement read: “The priority given to the Anioma State creation request has been encouraging and should help in properly balancing the federation, which is currently skewed against the Igbos. Asaba was the first capital of Nigeria and was the theatre of genocide during the civil war, which ended in 1970.

“If created, the state would be viable as enough oil and gas as well as mineral resources abound in the state. Asaba, the current capital of Delta State, boasts a modern and functional State House, Secretariat, Commissioners’ Quarters, and other facilities, so no new and expensive capital project will be undertaken.

Warri, another city in Delta State, equally boasts fitting infrastructure as well.”

The statement also commended the two senators from Delta state, Joel Onowakpo and Ede Dafinone, for supporting the Anioma State creation request.

The current Anioma Senator from Delta North, Ned Nwoko, is the champion and arrowhead of the struggle, supported by traditional rulers, youths, artisans, market women, as well as the thriving business, political, and academic elite.

It may be recalled that the movement for the creation of Anioma State commenced in the 1950s, spearheaded by the late Ojiba Ahaba Dennis Osadebe, with notable support from the late Idisi Dafe of Obiaruku, the then-king of Idumuje Ugboko, as well as Obi Nwoko and the late Sir George Orewa.

Additionally, the late Chief Humphrey Iwerebon, also known as Mkpitime, from the Ika region, played a significant role in this initiative.

  • Joining APC was to align with centre for greater benefits — Delta Govt

Joining APC was to align with centre for greater benefits — Delta Govt

Delta State Government has said its decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was taken after careful consideration of the development trajectory of the state and the need to align with the centre for greater benefits.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, stated this recently during an interview with TVC in Abuja on Friday.

Aniagwu stated that Governor Oborevwori’s leadership style anchored on transparency, equity, and justice is building trust among Deltans and bridging longstanding divides across ethnic and political lines.

Speaking further, Aniagwu explained the recent political realignment that saw Governor Oborevwori and the entire state political structure move from the PDP to the APC.

He said: “The decision was taken after careful consideration of the development trajectory of the state and the need to align with the centre for greater benefits.

“At some point, we were clear about why we had to leave our former party. Remaining in a structure where internal crises threatened the nomination processes would not serve the interests of development in our state.”

He referenced unresolved internal issues in the PDP, particularly the controversy surrounding the party’s National Secretary position as one of the key triggers for the defection.

“Even just a few days ago, the INEC position on who should serve as the National Secretary of the PDP was still being contested.

“That position of Secretary is important and plays a critical role in any party structure, and instability there undermines nomination processes,” he said.

Aniagwu noted upon moving to the APC, the Oborevwori administration was able to manage the existing party structures and tendencies within the APC effectively, thereby ensuring a smooth political transition.

“We moved in what you might call one fell swoop. There was no dissent; all elected and appointed officials followed. That shows a unified resolve and agreement with the Governor’s leadership,” he stated.

He added that the defection had brought about a more peaceful political environment in Delta State and had enhanced governance and development delivery.

“Our people now see that the decision to align with the centre was the right one. We are already attracting greater collaboration with the Federal Government and reaping the dividends in sectors like works, housing, health, and human capital development,” Aniagwu said.

He further said the Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is fostering unity and strengthening social cohesion across the state through inclusive governance, prudent resource management, and people-centered development initiatives.

He stated: “Governor Oborevwori is not just building roads and bridges; he is building trust and uniting the people of Delta State through purposeful governance.

“From Warri to Agbor, from Asaba to Oleh, every zone is feeling the impact of government.”

He explained that under the MORE Agenda, the administration has executed impactful infrastructure projects, prioritised local content in contract awards and empowered communities to take ownership of development.

Aniagwu emphasided that the even distribution of projects and political appointments had helped douse tensions and fostered a stronger sense of belonging among all Deltans.

According to him, the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability is evident in its regular publication of project updates and financial disclosures, which reflect an open-door governance policy.

He also hinted at ongoing efforts to build international partnerships, affirming Delta’s growing importance on the national stage.

“We believe Delta has evolved into a critical player in the Nigerian federation, and as such, we are expanding our reach for international collaborations to further enrich our development plans,” he added.

Aniagwu further praised Governor Oborevwori’s ability to manage the state’s diverse political and ethnic interests, even in the face of opposition narratives.

“Even when you are fair and inclusive, there will always be individuals who try to distort reality to serve their political interests. That is expected in politics. But the truth is, we are united, peaceful, and moving forward,” he stressed.

He urged all Deltans to continue supporting the Governor’s vision for a stronger, united, and more prosperous Delta, noting that sustained unity is crucial for the state’s long-term development.

APC media group knocks critics over location of SSDC office in A’Ibom

The All Progressives Congress Media Network (APCMN) has knocked critics over the planned location of the Southsouth Development Commission (SSDC) headquarters in Akwa Ibom state.

The group said the insinuation that the SSDC office would be sited in the private property of the Senate President Godswill Akpabio was not only malicious but intended to cause disunity in the region.

The APCMN was responding to an open letter to Governor Umo Eno by one Emmanuel Sam, publisher of a state-based newspaper, who alleged that Akpabio plans to corner the SSDC office to his private residence instead of the 21-storey Dakkada Towers.

In the letter, it was also alleged that former Governor Udom Emmanuel player a major role in the conception and establishment of the SSDC.

But in a statement on Saturday, the Director General of APC Media Network, Otuekong Iniobong John said the letter  was capable of distorting facts and creating disunity.

John maintained that the management of SSDC reserves the right to site it’s office anywhere it chooses, adding that  the most thing was for the commission to bring immense benefits to the people of the Southsouth.

“The claims that the SSDC plans to use a private property owned by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as its head office instead of the 21-floor Dakkada Towers owned by the state government are baseless and unfounded.

“It is essential to note that Senator Godswill Akpabio played a pivotal role in facilitating the choice of Akwa Ibom State as the headquarters of the SSDC and the appointment of an indigene of the state, Ms. Usoro Offiong Akpabio, as the pioneer Managing Director of the commission.

“These facts demonstrate his commitment to the development of the state and the South-South region. The APCMN commends Senator Akpabio for his efforts in facilitating the appointment and the choice of Akwa Ibom State as the commission’s headquarters. His contributions to the state’s development are undeniable.

“The SSDC management has the liberty to choose any property as its head office, just like the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) had its head office in a private property in Port Harcourt for over twenty years. The focus should be on the benefits the SSDC’s headquarters will bring to Akwa Ibom State”, John said.

The statement further said, “Contrary to Emmanuel Sam’s false claims, the immediate past governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, had no role in the conception or establishment of the SSDC, nor did he influence the choice of Akwa Ibom State as its headquarters.

‘It is evident that some disgruntled politicians are trying to create tension between the Senate President and the governor.

“The APCMN is optimistic that the collaborative relationship between Governor Pastor Umo Eno and Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio will yield significant benefits for Akwa Ibom State, driving progress and enhancing the state’s interests. This synergy will undoubtedly propel the state towards greater development and prosperity.

“We warn the sponsors to desist from stoking embers of unnecessary disunity and tension in the state. Their actions are divisive and detrimental to Akwa Ibom State’s progress. We urge them to focus on constructive engagement and meaningful contributions to the state’s growth”.

“On security and national stability, the Forum commended security agencies and ongoing efforts to counter criminality and safeguard national sovereignty.

Morka said that the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori, had been directed to assume the position of acting National Chairman, pending the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in December.

This, he said, was to immediately fill the vacancy created by Ganduje’s resignation.

“Throughout his tenure, he dedicated himself to strengthening the party’s unity and cohesion, expounding its democratic ideals and enhancing the party’s electoral competitiveness.

“The confidence placed in him by the party’s NEC and national caucus meetings in February 2025 was a profound recognition and honour for his service.

“He leaves his position as national chairman with great pride in our collective achievements, including successful defections from opposition parties and legal affirmations of our party leadership’s legitimacy,” Morka said.
