Council poll: We’re not underrating other parties, says APC

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State says it is embarking on rigorous campaigns ahead of this weekend’s local government election because it is not underrating other parties.

It said it had set up a committee headed by Mr. Charles Fagbunka to oversee and coordinate campaigns across the 18 local governments.

Spokesman Alex Kalejaiye, at a news press briefing ahead of Saturday’s election, said the party had reconciled aggrieved members for the purpose of going into the election as a united family.

He hoped the party would repeat the same victory it secured in last year’s governorship election when it won in the 18 local governments.

Kalejaiye said: “We have given directives to our leaders to meet and mobilise our members to visit churches and markets to canvass for vote.

“We are prepared for the local government elections. Our campaigns are going on in the wards and local governments. We are working and getting set for this exercise.

“We never believe in buying votes. With what we have done and what we are doing, we believe the people will vote for us. We believe in decent campaign. During the governorship election, we campaigned and won in all the local governments. It is the people that will decide who will be their councillors and chairmen. Our preoccupation is to win the poll. Thirteen political parties, according to ODIEC, are participating in the election. We are going to win.

“People voted for performance. We never believe in buying votes. With what we have done for the people, we know they wouldn’t have any problem to vote the APC.

The Ondo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stated that it has embarked on rigorous campaigns ahead of the forthcoming local government polls because it is not underrating other political parties.

It mentioned that it has set up a committee headed by Charles Fagbunka to oversee and coordinate all campaigns across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Kalejaiye expressed optimism that the party would repeat the same victory it secured in last year’s governorship election when it won in all 18 local government areas.

According to him, “We have given directives to our leaders to meet and mobilise our members to visit churches and markets to canvass for votes.

“We are fully prepared for the local government elections. Our campaigns are taking place in the Wards and local government areas. We are working and getting set for this exercise.

“We do not believe in buying votes. With what we have done and what we are doing, we trust that the people will vote for us. We believe in a decent campaign. During the governorship election, we campaigned and won in all the local government areas. It is the people who will decide who will be their councilor and Chairperson. Our preoccupation is to win the election. Thirteen political parties, according to ODIEC, are participating in the election. We are going to win.

“People voted for performance. We never believed in buying votes. With what we have done for the people, we know they wouldn’t have any problem voting for the APC.

“We started by sensitizing our members. We have committees and they have been working in various Wards and Units. The committees have been active. We are not just starting campaigns.

“In every civilized society, the essence of paying tax is to make life better for the people. The APC is committed to utilising results properly for the betterment of the people. If people pay taxes and see justification in terms of infrastructure, they will be happy.

“It would be unimaginable to think that our party could lose in a contest like this. This is because the party has done so much for the people of Ondo State, and we are not relenting. In November last year, we won in all the local government areas. We are not underrating other political parties.

We have confidence because we have good candidates to promote. We have a good party and good products to offer.

Edo governorship tribunal begins as PDP, APC gear up for legal battle

The Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal begins today, Monday, in Benin City, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) set for a decisive legal contest over the outcome of the September 21 gubernatorial election.

The case has generated mixed reactions across the state, with PDP supporters expressing optimism.

PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is contesting the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging collusion between INEC and the APC to manipulate the process.

The petition outlines alleged irregularities, including violations of the Electoral Act, inflated APC votes in strongholds, and unlawful cancellation of PDP votes in key local government areas.

PDP spokesperson Barrister Tony Ehilebo, speaking ahead of the tribunal’s first sitting, expressed confidence in the party’s case.

“We have presented overwhelming evidence to prove that the election was rigged. We are confident the tribunal will restore the mandate stolen from the people of Edo and reaffirm the integrity of our democracy,” he said.

However, the APC dismissed the claims as unfounded. Chief Alex Okosun, an APC chieftain, described the challenge as “sacrilegious,” urging Ighodalo to accept the results.

“Politicians must stop litigating every election. Asue is Sen. Monday Okpebholo’s Esan brother. He should let bygones be bygones and join the Governor to move Edo forward. We have finally gotten an Esan governor; that is the main thing,” Okosun stated, maintaining confidence in the legitimacy of Governor Okpebholo’s mandate.

As proceedings commence, the tribunal faces intense scrutiny, with many viewing the case as a critical test of Nigeria’s judiciary and its role in protecting democratic integrity.

Setback for NNPP as Barau receives ex-Commissioner to APC

The gale of defection rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has continued with Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abbas, who served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State until last month, announced his defection from the NNPP during a visit to the Kano residence of the Senate Deputy President Barau I Jibrin, on Friday night.

“In the past six months,”according to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President on Media and Publicity, Ismael Mudashir in Abuja, “hundreds of leaders of the NNPP from across the 44 local government areas of Kano State have dumped NNPP and the Kwankwsiyya movement together with thousands of their supporters.

“Tagged the ‘Barau Tsunami’, the defections saw thousands of NNPP members thrashing their red caps, the symbol of the Kwankwsiyya Movement in Kano State, and embracing the APC.

“Following the calls by some NNPP leaders that the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, should take charge of governance firmly in the state, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Bichi, and five commissioners, including Hon Abbas Sani Abbas, were sacked last month.

“During his visit to the Kano residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Hon Abbas Sani Abbas announced his defection, pledging to work towards the success of the APC across Kano State and beyond.

“Senator Barau, who is the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, received Hon Abbas, together with the APC Chairman in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders.

JUST IN: Former APC lawmakers back zoning guber ticket to Osun West in 2026

The forum of former members of Osun State House of Assembly (OSHA), under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the party leadership to zone its 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.

In a communiqué signed by the forum’s secretary, Ajibola Akinloye, and 14 other members, the group argued that Osun West has been marginalized, as it has never produced a governorship candidate for the party since 1999.

Reiterating their commitment to equity, justice, and fairness, the ex-lawmakers pledged their unwavering support for the APC leader in the state, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

They, however, noted that their request is subject to Oyetola’s decision, recognizing his right of first refusal to the party’s ticket.

They resolved: “We earnestly ask for the governorship ticket to be zoned to West Senatorial District who has never got the ticket in the Progressive Party since 1999 unlike the two other Senatorial Districts.

“Our agitation/request is subject to the decision of our leader H. E Gboyega Oyetola ,who has the right of first refusal to the APC governorship ticket.

“That party activities should commence immediately from polling units to the state level to send the ruling party in the state (PDP) out of power by 2026.”

  • 2027: Delta PDP leaders predict Governor Oborevwori’s defection to APC

2027: Delta PDP leaders predict Governor Oborevwori’s defection to APC

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori may be on the verge of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite denials from his aides, according to prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

A group known as the Concerned Leaders of PDP in Delta State hinted at the governor’s possible departure in a statement signed by Mr. Theophilus Ekiyo, Mr. Ochuko Oghenekome, and Mr. Ezekiel Chukwudi.

They likened the situation to a “seasonal transfer market,” suggesting that Governor Oborevwori is preparing to switch political allegiances.

“The Governor has positioned himself strategically to leave his old club and join a new one. He has been in discussions with team managers of his preferred party, and it’s only a matter of time before the move is finalized,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that ongoing developments point to negotiations that could significantly reshape Delta’s political landscape.

“Reports of Governor Oborevwori’s planned defection have gained traction despite denials from his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, and PDP State Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka; their dismissive responses, however, fail to convince party members who point to clear signs of his alignment with APC leaders, including a recent controversial trip to Ghana.

“Governor Oborevwori’s sudden decision to settle entitlements of APC lawmakers after months of withholding payments further stokes speculation of his defection plans; this gesture appears to pave the way for a smooth transition to the APC.

“The governor’s trip to Ghana, allegedly to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, raises critical concerns: was it an official engagement authorized on behalf of Delta state when the President was there to represent the entire federation?

“What diplomatic ties justify Delta state governor’s attendance at Ghana’s presidential inauguration that had Nigeria’s President in attendance, if not for the purpose of smoothening his exit plans to join APC?

“Governor Oborevwori owes the PDP and Delta citizens clarity on these issues, particularly given the lack of accountability surrounding his actions.

“We, the Concerned Leaders of the PDP, Delta State, strongly condemn this betrayal of trust; Governor Oborevwori’s potential defection undermines the party that propelled him to power and risks destabilizing PDP’s future in the state.

“We urge all PDP members to remain vigilant and take their political destiny into their hands; Governor Oborevwori must address these concerns transparently or face the consequences of his actions,” they added.

  • Seyi Tinubu: A Phoenix Rising – Our APC National Youth Wing Young Person of the Year 2024

Seyi Tinubu: A Phoenix Rising – Our APC National Youth Wing Young Person of the Year 2024

By Dr. Dayo Israel, National Youth Leader, APC

When disaster struck Borno State last December, it drew widespread attention and support from Nigeria’s top philanthropists and leaders. From captains of industry to political figures, the city of Maiduguri became a rallying point for collective action.

Among the many who responded, one name stood out for His quiet determination and thoughtful approach,Seyi Tinubu.

Mobilizing his network, Seyi brought tangible relief to displaced families, offering both financial assistance and essential supplies.

His efforts went beyond charity, embodying a sense of duty and empathy. This was not an isolated act but part of a larger pattern of contributions that began long before his father assumed the presidency.

I have seen firsthand Seyi’s consistent and impactful contributions to humanity over the years. Even before his father ascended to the lofty position of Commander-in-Chief, he demonstrated a deep commitment to social good.

One example is his endless support for monthly food interventions in Lagos communities through FoodClique, which operated in my neighborhood in Ebute Metta under the leadership of the late Bolajoko. His quiet but effective support has always been a source of inspiration to many.

Seyi Tinubu has consistently shown a commitment to addressing pressing social needs, often preferring action over docility. His work through initiatives like the Noella Foundation reflects a deep-rooted belief in community-driven change. From supporting food security to empowering youth through education and entrepreneurship, his efforts speak to a vision of sustainable impact.

A trained lawyer with degrees in Law and Corporate & Commercial Law from the University of Buckingham, Seyi has combined his professional background with entrepreneurial ventures, including his role as CEO of Loatsad Promomedia Ltd. Yet, his entrepreneurial success is just one facet of his identity; his greater passion lies in using his resources and influence to uplift others.

For many years, he has used his influence to support good causes through numerous organizations, including Sonia Agu’s Sapio Club and other foundations. These platforms have allowed him to extend his reach, touching lives across various sectors.

Whether it’s mentoring young entrepreneurs or sponsoring initiatives that address pressing societal needs, Seyi has consistently shown that leadership is about service.

The Noella Foundation, named after his daughter, has become a platform for addressing critical issues like girl-child education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.

Its flagship initiative, the Seyi Tinubu Empowerment Project (STEP), equips young Nigerians with the skills and resources needed to thrive in a digital economy, fostering innovation and resilience.

Seyi’s recent visit to Maiduguri, where he donated over ₦500 million in aid for flood victims, exemplifies his approach to leadership—one that prioritizes collaboration and swift action. Addressing Governor Babagana Zulum and other stakeholders, he emphasized the importance of collective effort in rebuilding lives and communities.

I have also witnessed how his interventions extend to health and education. His support for projects such as the Infant and Maternal Healthcare Intervention at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) and the scholarship scheme for pediatric residency doctors is a testament to his belief in systemic change.

Beyond these, his philanthropic acts—like offsetting medical bills for indigent patients, all these highlight his drive to bring relief to those who need it most.

Now in the corridors of power, he has not reneged in using his influence and access to improve the lives of many, young and old. He leaves not just his name on the mouths of many but his memories in the hearts of millions who might otherwise be forgotten.

Seyi’s actions underscore a broader philosophy: using one’s platform for the greater good. His approach avoids grandstanding, focusing instead on meaningful and lasting contributions. In an era where influence is often equated with visibility, his preference for understated service sets him apart.

As Nigeria navigates complex social and economic challenges, Young People like Seyi Tinubu remind us of the potential for individuals to drive change, not through power alone but through purpose and perseverance.

His journey is not about perfection but progress, and it is this quiet resilience that continues to inspire hope in those he serves.

In Light of this, the APC National Youth Wing is delighted to announce Mr Seyi Tinubu as our Young Person of the Year 2024 as part of our Progressives Young Leaders Award. He would be honored at an event to be announce soon.
