Why APC will win Anambra South by-election – Okwuosa

A governorship aspirant for the November 2025 election in Anambra State, Sir Azuka Okwuosa, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the forthcoming senatorial by-election in Anambra South District.

Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to announce a date for the election, it is expected to fill the vacancy left by the late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in the United Kingdom last year.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu, Okwuosa highlighted the late senator’s impactful projects in Anambra South and the increasing influence of APC in the state as factors that would secure the party’s victory.

He emphasized that winning the by-election would demonstrate the APC’s readiness and capability to contest and win the governorship seat in 2025.

Okwuosa said: “If you check today Anambra is a state where we have multiparty relationships among APC, PDP, APGA and Labour Party. Today we see like in the present senatorial by-election which was occupied by an APC senator, late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah. So, we have no reason not to recapture that seat because presently, out of the three senatorial seats in Anambra, LP has two and you know that LP will like to have all three seats, which is quite impossible in Anambra state.

“And I’m also aware that the governor coming from the same South senatorial district as the late Ifeanyi Ubah, will like to do everything humanly possible to see whether APGA will capture the seat.

“But today, I can assure you that the work which the late senator did and with the major incursion of APC in Anambra state, we have no choice other than to retake that seat. Anything short of that will not be acceptable to us. It’s a precursor to the governorship election. We need to get it right to show our capacity and to show our willingness to go for the governorship seat.

“This by-election will take place on or before February which is just less than two months away. So, we’re going into that election with every sense of purpose and commitment because the success of that senatorial by-election will show our capacity and our enablement to go for the main governorship election later this year”.

  • Why Rivers political crisis lingers, by APC chair

Why Rivers political crisis lingers, by APC chair

All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Rivers State Tony Okocha says the state’s political crisis has continued to fester because  Governor  Siminalayi Fubara lacks conciliatory attitude.

To prove this, Okocha cited the Yuletide and the 57th  birthday celebration last month of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Minister,  Nyesom Wike, as two recent opportunities Fubara could have cashed in to end the crisis.

“The Yuletide provided even enemies opportunities to pay visits to one another and resolve their issues. A governor who wants peace can just drive to the minister’s house to greet him on Christmas Day… Instead, he was threatening fire and brimstones, “ he added.

Okocha, who was a guest of national television, stated that Fubara’s actions signaled an escalation rather than de-escalation of the political conflict in the state.

He also denounced criticisms against Wike for his comments on another former Governor of the state, Peter Odili.

His words: ‘’I haven’t seen anything in the statement by Minister Nyesom Wike that indicates he intended to disparage the elder statesman and former governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili. His comment referencing Mr. Odili as the ‘general overseer’ of Rivers State is not disparaging within its context.

‘’The FCT Minister merely said to our leader Dr. Peter Odilli, you are a father and the role of a father is not to take sides when his children are fighting. That’s my understanding because it was overreaching for the former governor to take sides.

“The former governor was part of the peace meeting convened by the President and in recognition of Dr. Odili’s standing, the President deferred to him in many ways.

“If the former governor was free-minded and had objections to issues such as the representation of the budget, I think it behooves him to reach out to the President to seek counsel on how to resolve issues. But he never did that.”

On the state’s 2025  budget, the APC chairman said he was aware of several judgments on the issue.

“In January 2024, the court said the budget that was presented to a committee of four legislators should be represented.

“The court of appeal on two other occasions directed that the budget be represented because the so-called three-member House was a forum of friends. Instead of doing the right thing, he went ahead to represent the budget to the same House members.”

APC upholds free speech, says women leader

National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Mary Idele Alile, has faulted the claim by Peter Obi that APC spokesperson, Mr Felix Morka, threatened his life.

In a statement, Alile described Obi’s claims as inflammatory and baseless.

She noted that the APC and its leadership have always upheld the principles of democracy, free speech, and constructive criticism.

She accused the LP 2023 presidential candidate of deliberately misrepresenting Morka’s remarks.

She wondered why Obi, who regularly positioned himself as a champion of dialogue and peace, was quick to escalate political commentary into a fabricated security concern.

The statement reads in parts: “As the APC National Women Leader, I stand firmly with Felix Morka, our National Publicity Secretary, whose statements have been unjustly twisted to suit Mr. Obi’s narrative of victimhood.

“Mr. Obi’s allegations that Morka threatened his life and family are baseless, inflammatory, and an attempt to distract Nigerians from his own political shortcomings.

“Felix Morka’s response to Obi’s New Year address was a straightforward and well-articulated rebuttal of the misleading and often divisive rhetoric that Obi continues to propagate.

“It is disappointing that instead of engaging in mature political discourse, Obi has chosen to cry wolf, fabricating threats where none exist.”

On why Obi’s claim holds no water, the Women Leader stated that Morka’s comments were public and clear, devoid of any language that could be interpreted as a threat.

“Nigerians deserve better than calculated attempts to undermine public officials for cheap political sympathy,” she said.

She added that the APC under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains steadfast in upholding the tenets of democracy and that  Morka’s remarks aligned with her party’s commitment to addressing misinformation and setting the record straight.

“Mr. Obi’s recent statements are a distraction from his inability to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress.

“Rather than address the glaring lack of structure and cohesion within his party, Obi chooses to deflect attention by targeting APC officials who diligently defend the truth.

“We urge Nigerians to remain focused on the nation’s developmental goals under the progressive leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The APC will not be deterred by opposition antics designed to derail our mission.

“Let it be clear that Felix Morka spoke on behalf of millions of Nigerians who are tired of baseless criticism and are ready to move forward under a government committed to action and results.

“I, Dr. Mrs. Mary Idele Alile, unequivocally support Felix Morka and denounce the desperate attempts to silence voices of truth within our party.”

A Philanthropist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Abdulkareem Shittu, has distributed rice to residents of Ikorodu.

The event held at Allison Street, Ikorodu, highlighted his commitment to supporting the less privileged and reinforcing his party’s dedication to social welfare.

Shittu hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC leaders in Ikorodu for their leadership and commitment to national progress.

He said: “I remain dedicated to supporting my community, regardless of my physical presence. I am proud of my team for executing a successful event and thankful for my constituents’ unwavering support.”

Director-General of the Abdulkareem Shittu Foundation, Hassan Muhammed, said: “The goal is to assist the government and inspire hope in our people. Nigeria will be great again.”

He reiterated Shittu’s belief in uplifting vulnerable members of the society, especially during challenging economic times.

A member of the Foundation, Kazeem Shittu, lauded the legislator’s consistent generosity.

“Shittu’s selflessness speaks volumes. His compassion and commitment to his constituents’ welfare are evident in initiatives like these,” he stated.

Shina Jaiyesimi encouraged recipients to embrace the gesture as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Tinubu.

He urged collective support for the government’s efforts to create a better future, saying, “Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous nation.”

  • APC to Obi: You lied, your life is not threatened

APC to Obi: You lied, your life is not threatened

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, asserting that neither the party nor its leaders have any intention of threatening his life.

Obi had previously alleged on his verified X handle that his New Year message led to threats against his life, family, and associates.

He also cited comments made by APC’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, during an interview on AriseTV’s This Week program on January 4, 2025, where Morka reportedly accused Obi of inciting Nigerians against President Bola Tinubu, warning of consequences.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the APC rejected Obi’s claims, calling them “false and unfounded.”

The party described Obi’s accusation that Morka had threatened his life as a “malicious lie” and an attempt at “attention-seeking, playing-the-victim, emotional blackmail.”

The APC further criticized Obi, accusing him of encouraging his online supporters to direct death threats toward Morka.

The party exonerated Morka from any wrongdoing, emphasizing that he had never threatened Obi or his family.

“Morka did not threaten Mr. Obi or anyone else,” the statement concluded.

It further said: “Morka will continue to hold Obi and other opposition actors accountable for their actions just as they seek to, and should, hold our great Party and administration accountable, when truth and public trust are compromised.

“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libeled Morka in the extreme, and has incited his online mob to make death threats against Morka and members of his family. That is unacceptable.”

Setting the record straight the party gave a verbatim transcription of the relevant clip indisputably attests:

“Arise TV: You have actually hit back with a volley of attacks, calling Peter Obi a prophet of doom. Some of you have said he is always embarking on voodoo economics that are not in line with current realities. Don’t you think that is a slingshot that has gone beyond normal politicking?

“Morka: No, he is the one throwing darts. Mr. Obi is shooting from the hip. He is not looking, he is not taking an aim; he just shoots wildly like what we used to see in movies back in the days in “Wild, Wild West.” He is not being rational, he is absolutely irrational in his thinking and in his commentary for a man who was Governor for eight years and left nothing to remember in Anambra State by way of legacy or transformation. But all of a sudden, he had served as Governor for eight years, he did’t have the wisdom or the smartness to change Anambra State; to the make Anambra the beacon, the example of governance in the country.

“But then he runs for President in 2023, and now that he didn’t win, he is sulking. Rather than get a perspective of what he did to lose so he can get better in future, he thinks that he can bring down the government by being maliciously deceptive. That is wrong. I’m not someone to go on the offensive in that manner. But Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times. And, I think that, at this point, he has coming to him whatever he gets. He should manage it.”

The party argued that Morka’s answer was in the exclusive context of the question. According to APC, “the last sentence of that answer that, “I am not somebody to go on the offensive in that manner, but Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times and I think that at this point he has coming to him, whatever he gets, he needs to manage it”, was in specific and exclusive response to the question’s reference to “prophet of doom” and “voodoo economics”. Again, nothing in that sentence constitutes or suggests a threat to Obi or anyone.”

APC maintained that while everyone has a right to free speech, no one has a right to peddle misinformation or outright falsehood. “The right to free speech granted by our country’s Constitution is not Mr. Obi’s exclusive right but a right that is available to all Nigerians, including Morka. Mr. Obi cannot disseminate misinformation and demand or expect that no one should disagree or challenge his false narrative.

“Ours is a democracy where every citizen, irrespective of the political affiliation, is entitled to agree or disagree with other political views or opinions. More than any other Nigerian in this political dispensation, Mr. Obi has exercised his fundamental liberty to speak and disseminate his political views in person, in the formal and on social media.

“Obi leads a restless band of online mob who continue to attack, intimidate, bully and issue death threats to other citizens who dare disagree or criticize Obi or his opinions or position on any subject or matter of national conversation.  Many eminent and highly respected elder statesmen have been serially attacked, humiliated and bullied by Obi’s online followers. Obi has never condemned their conduct or called them to order.

“Obi must think himself to be Nigeria’s sacred cow, the super citizen,  quintessential, without blemish, beyond reproach, always right, never wrong, and endowed with the supreme and inalienable right to deride, castigate, intimidate blackmail and incite Nigerians against other political leaders who disagree with him, even those who defeated him decisively in the last general election. Mr. Obi is not entitled to any monolithic or exclusive constitutional or extraterrestrial liberty over and above any other citizen.”

Affirming that Obi has truly crossed the line of truth in his many assessments, APC recalled how as LP candidate for the office of President in the last general election, made very bold electoral promises to implement specific economic policies to tackle the country’s economic crisis.

APC recalled that “Mr Obi promised to abolish the system of fuel subsidy from day one. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu abolished the system of fuel subsidy on day one. Obi has continued to lambast and incite Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised he would do if he was elected president. That is crossing the line of truth.

“Mr. Obi promised to abolish the dual foreign exchange rate system. President Tinubu has abolished the dual exchange rate system. Obi has continued to lambast and incite Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised he would do if he was elected president. That is crossing the line of truth.

“Mr. Obi promised to transform Nigeria from a consumer to production economy. Under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria now exports more petroleum and agricultural products than it imports with a record of three consecutive quarter massive trade surplus to show. Obi has continued to lambast and incite Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised he would do if he was elected president. That is crossing the line of truth.

“Crossing the line of truth and peddling false narratives, arrogant unwillingness to acknowledge obvious markers of progress, mobilizing outrage and stoking tension against the government are not exactly the most admirable hallmarks of leadership.

“Peter Obi’s constant flip-flops have crossed a critical line, exposing a disturbing lack of principled commitment. By altering his stance to suit his political interests and drumbeats of the vocal online supporters, Obi undermines his credibility and raises serious concern about his leadership capabilities.

“Nigeria deserves opposition leaders who uphold principle and engage in  fact-based critiques rather than barefaced indulgence in opportunistic and manipulative politics. The trust of the people is sacred, and Obi’s vacillations  demonstrate a willingness to sacrifice this trust for political gain.

“As a public figure, Mr. Obi bears a responsibility to provide accurate and truthful information. Instead, he has chosen to peddle falsehood and mislead Nigerians in quest for political currency and relevance.

“We call on Mr. Obi to immediately set the record straight, withdraw his false allegation against Morka, and call his online supporters to order. Morka, stands ready to explore all available recourse mechanisms in valiant defence of his decency and impeccable reputation,” the party warned.

APC guber ticket: Zoning debate sparks tensions in Osun

The push for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its 2026 governorship ticket to the West Senatorial District of Osun State has ignited disagreements among interest groups.

The Nation reports that the Osun Progressives Independent Forum (OPIF) has rejected the idea, arguing that the agitation for zoning is driven by personal interests.

In contrast, the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG) has voiced strong support for zoning the ticket to the West.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Engagement and Operations, Iwolode Samuel, COAIG emphasised that the move is rooted in fairness, equity, and balanced representation.

Samuel accused those opposing the zoning of prioritising personal agendas over the collective good of the party and the state.

“Our agitation doesn’t revolve around a personality; we are projecting an aspiration that considers the benefit of the majority over the comfort of an individual,” he said.

He further stressed that Osun West has been historically marginalised in the state’s governorship narrative, stating, “Our call for zoning the APC gubernatorial ticket to Osun West is not just a matter of local pride but a commitment to justice and equitable development for all parts of the state.”

COAIG also invited OPIF and other stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to build consensus on the zoning issue, urging unity within the party to advance its broader goals.

2027: Ganduje, others urge unity in Kano APC

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abudullahi Ganduje, alongside other stakeholders in the party, have urged the members of party in Kano State.

They have  also urged the members to be united so as to wrest power from the  incumbent New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) administration in the state.

Ganduje made the call during the 8th and 9th APC members Kano State House of Assembly Forum dinner.

It was held in honour of Rt. Hon. Kabiru Rurum, Rt. Hon. Hamisu  Chidari, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Atta, Labaran Madari, Ayuba Durum, Babangida Yakudima and Baffa Danagundi.

“Unity is the only way out for us, it’s the only option we have to get what we want.

”God has already intervened in our situation, the current government is already distorting the state, we are just waiting for time.

”The next election will be a matter of shifting a hen from its eggs.

“I always get surprised when Rabiu Kwankwaso said he is the one who has people,

”I can swear to God if not for our issues that some of us went away, he wouldn’t have won any election in the state,” he said.

Ganduje was represented by the state Chairman of the party, Prince Abdullahi Abbas.

He added,”He will see this time around. He will understand that those that helped him are already disappointed and regretting.

“I am assuring you that we are done with Kwankwasiyya. Even the Governor is not aware of all that is going on,”

Also speaking, the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development,Yusuf  Ata, lamented the disunity in the party in the state.

“What is left for us in Kano is just unity, the issue of election is not our problem, if the elections will hold today, we don’t have any concern or course to be afraid.

”The one we  didn’t win, it is just God that did not give us victory,  let’s just pray and forge ahead in unity.

“We must work towards reclaiming Kano because the way the state is being handled now, we all know it’s not in good hands. Nobody is enjoying the leadership.

In his welcome speech, the Chairman of the Forum, Abdul’azeez  Gafasa, said that the honourees were selected from those that were opportune to benefit from the Federal appointments.

Gafasa expressed gratitude for the unity of the forum, saying that the members were still their brothers’ keepers and working to uplift one another.

  • APC, PDP duel over alleged assassination bid on Kaduna senator

APC, PDP duel over alleged assassination bid on Kaduna senator

Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to desist from tarnishing its reputation with unverified claims and unfounded propaganda.

This was coming as the opposition PDP fingered members of the APC in the alleged assassination  attempt on PDP Senator Representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Lawal Adamu Usman.

The APC in a statement issued by the State Secretary, Alhaji Yahaya Baba Pate, advised the PDP to ‘’strive to fulfill its role as a constructive opposition party.’’

The PDP had earlier accused APC of complicity in the alleged murder attempt, which the ruling party  has condemned, describing it as an unfounded accusation which is “both false and absurd.”

According to APC,  the Kaduna Police Command had “revealed that Senator Lawal Adamu Usman has neither filed a formal complaint nor cooperated with ongoing investigations.

“Despite repeated attempts by the police to reach him, he remains unresponsive. It is, therefore, baffling how the PDP arrived at its baseless conclusion implicating the APC in this alleged incident,’’ the party stated.

The statement further called  on Senator Usman and the PDP to cooperate fully with the Police investigation.

‘’Failure to do so would lend credence to suspicions that the alleged assassination attempt is nothing more than a fabrication aimed at maligning the APC, creating unnecessary tension, and derailing the peace and progress currently enjoyed in Kaduna State.

‘’The APC strongly suspects that certain conflict entrepreneurs are using the PDP to disrupt the remarkable strides achieved under the peace initiatives of Senator Uba Sani’s people-focused and inclusive administration,’’ the statement added.

The ruling party noted that ‘’the PDP in Kaduna State has developed a troubling reputation for issuing ill-conceived and patently false statements, undermining the seriousness of public discourse.

‘’This reckless behavior highlights the party’s deteriorating standards, with critical matters being handled without due diligence or proper scrutiny,’’ the party maintained.

While noting that efforts to disrupt  the Government will not succeed, the statement added that ‘’Kaduna State remains on a path of growth and stability, and no amount of false narratives or orchestrated incidents will derail this progress.’’

However, the PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Maria Dogo said, the party will not stand idly by while the lives of its elected representatives are threatened or taken, allegedly by the APC and its members.

According to the statement, “the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State strongly condemns the unfortunate assassination attempt on the life of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central senatorial district. This disturbing incident occurred on January 1, 2025, while Senator Usman was inspecting ongoing constituency projects in Kaduna North LGA.

“The Kaduna State government’s inability to prevent killings, maimings, and kidnappings across the state has been alarming. The recent assassination attempt on Senator Usman highlights the government’s ineptitude in managing security and sets a worrisome tone for 2025.

“The PDP demands an immediate investigation into this matter, as well as the arrest and prosecution of the assailants and their sponsors. We also urge reinforced security measures for our elected representatives and their families.

“We emphasize that the PDP will not stand idly by while the lives of our elected representatives are threatened or taken, allegedly by the APC and its members. The ballot, not violence, is the only accepted means of transferring power.

“Instead of resorting to violence, the APC-led government and its members should focus on implementing meaningful initiatives and programs in the senatorial zone, earning the party goodwill among the people.

“We call on our party members and all well-meaning citizens of the Kaduna Central senatorial zone to remain calm and peaceful while we pursue all legal means to bring those responsible for the attempt on Senator Usman’s life to justice.

“As our state chairman noted in his New Year Message, the PDP is committed to defending democracy in Kaduna State, ensuring the people’s voices are heard,” the statement read.

Though, spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan could not be reached to confirm the status of investigation on the alleged assassination attempt, a credible security source said, the Senator was not assisting the Police in the investigation, as he was yet to report the case to the Police.

The Police Command had on Thursday stated that it was not aware of the alleged assassination attempt on Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, stating that it did not receive any formal complaint regarding the incident, which was reportedly carried out by thugs in an unidentified location in Kaduna North on January 2, 2025.
