    Emenike apologises to Karabukspor

Emmanuel Emenike has spoken of his delight at ending a goal drought stretching back to November 2014, as Fenerbahce defeated Karabukspor 2-1 in the Super Lig on Saturday.

With 58 minutes gone in the game held at Dr. Necmettin Seyhoglu Stadium, the Nigeria international scored his third goal of the season to make it 2-0 to the Turkish champions.

The Super Eagles’ star  thanked his teammates and Fenerbahce staff for the affection shown to him during his bad spell in front of goal.

”For us, it a really nice game. I want to thank our President, coach and my teammates,” Emmanuel Emenike said at a press conference.

”They did not lose their trust in me, they always encouraged me. I want to thank them individually.”

After scoring against his former team, he has stressed that he had to celebrate the goal because a long time had passed since he found the back of the net.

”I celebrated at the same time and I want to talk about the goal I scored against my former team.

”On their behalf, on behalf of the fans, I’m sorry. I did not score for a long time so I celebrated it.

”Actually, I never changed, I am still the same Emenike. I think it is something inherent in football. Sometimes things do not go as you want,” the Fenerbahce number 29 added.

Emenike spent two seasons at Karabukspor, and netted 30 goals in 50 matches before joining Spartak Moscow.

Muna Obiekwe: Fake Twitter account operator apologises

The death of a popular Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe, on Sunday, generated ripples, when a Twitter handle purportedly run by the actor debunked news of his demise. While earlier reports indicated that the talented actor died in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos, the Twitter account had denied the report.

After colleagues of the late actor confirmed his death and attacked the operator of the fake account, an apology tweet was released on the fake Twitter handle.

“Anyway, sorry guys for the deceit; Muna Obiekwe is truly dead and I am signing out from this account… sorry guys,” the account operator wrote on Sunday night.

However, colleagues of the light-skinned actor have continued to express shock at his sudden demise. Nollywood actress, Cynthia Agholor said although she wasn’t very close to him during his lifetime, she could say he was very kind, humble and gentle. “Nollywood has lost a charismatic star. I pray God gives the family and all of us in the industry the fortitude to bear the loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” she added.

Another Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic, tweeted; “RIP Muna Obiekwe. This is so disheartening. Well, God knows best. Adieu dear colleague.”

Rapper and music producer, Michael Stevens, aka Ruggedman also said via Twitter: “RIP Muna Obiekwe. You have played your part in the biggest industry called life and have taken a bow. May your soul rest in peace.”

“It is a shock to all of us. Just last month, we lost Clem in Asaba. It seems the thing has now shifted to the younger generation. His death is a big loss to the industry. I am presently on location in Enugu and everybody here is in a foul mood. Muna was a very nice person and a humble one at that. I pray that his soul finds rest wherever he is,” said fellow actor, Emeka Rollas.

Also speaking on his death, Nollywood director, Charles Inojie, noted that “anybody who knew Muna would attest to the fact that he was a very gentle person. He had a very subtle way of settling disputes. You would never find Muna where there is strife. No doubt, his death is a huge loss to the industry. He has left behind a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.”

Reports say that the actor, who has been battling renal related ailment, collapsed at home and was rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

  • Eagles’ loss to Ghana: Ladipo apologises to Nigerians

Eagles’ loss to Ghana: Ladipo apologises to Nigerians

Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, President-General, Nigeria Football Supporters Club, on Thursday apologised to Nigerians on the Super Eagles’ loss to Ghana at the semi-finals of the African Nations Championships (CHAN).

Oladipo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein, South Africa, that the team’s scoring ability was poor in the semi-final encounter with the Black Stars.

According to him, the match against Ghana’s team was yet another disappointment.

“While we did the play in the midfield, our scoring ability was poor. We created many chances but failed to utilise them.

“There was nothing fantastic about Ghana’s Black Stars, the Eagles were better technically. The Stars playing 10 against our 11 were too rough and were actually playing for penalty shootout.

“That was why their players and goalkeeper were feigning injuries several times, delaying the game.

“Our undoing was the failure of the Eagles to capitalise on the short one in the number of the Stars and put more pressure on them,’’ he said.

Ladipo, however, added that since penalty shootout was part of the game, the Eagles and all the other national teams should work on their ability to take penalty kicks.

Ladipo, who is also the President-General, African Football and Other Sports Supporters Union (AFOSSU), added that in football you win some and lose some.

“The boys did well at the championship, Nigeria was not disgraced, and therefore, we should encourage and appreciate them.

“With the Eagles’ performance in the competition, Coach Stephen Keshi has also proven that he is the best coach in Africa,” he said.

NAN reports that the Eagles will on Saturday meet Zimbabwe in the third place match at Cape Town Stadium, South Africa, while the final match will hold between Ghana and Libya.

The next edition of CHAN will hold in Burundi in 2016.

  • FAAN’s MD apologises to Oshiomhole

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apologised to the Edo State Government and air travellers for the closure of the Benin Airport on Tuesday.

The Managing Director, George Uriesi, led other management staff, including Yakubu Dati, General Manager, Kolawole Adefomiwa, Deputy General Manager, Adeboye Festus, Chief Security Officer and Ayodele Sunday, Airport manager to Governor Adams Oshiomhole yesterday.

Uriesi said: “We deeply regret the events of Tuesday and we will like to find out how we can prevent a recurrence.

“It is neither in the interest of FAAN nor the Edo State Government for the airport to be closed.

“I want to assure Your Excellency that FAAN is a good corporate citizen. I am convinced that there was a misunderstanding and I want to get to the bottom of this so that it does not happen again.

“If we have any obligations, we will meet them, and I hope that in the future if there are issues of misunderstanding, we will be able to talk about them quickly without inconveniencing the public.

“Sir, we are here to reassure you of our desire to be good corporate citizen and partner with the government.”

Oshiomhole noted that tax law is a federal law, which the state is trying to implement.

He noted that FAAN didnot pay the Pay As You Earn (PAYE), which even the president and governors pay.

The governor said the State Board of Internal Revenue got a court order to seal off the FAAN Manager’s office, but that the manager decided to seal off the airport to gain public sympathy.

He insisted that anybody who works and lives in Edo State must pay tax.

The governor said to prevent a recurrence, FAAN must comply with the law.

The Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Services, Oseni Elamah, said Federal Government ministries, departments and agencies owed the state over N2billion.

Of the amount, he said the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) owed N680million. The balance is owed by 33 agencies.

The chairman said the taxes were for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

He said there were other agencies whose records they were yet to obtain.

Elamah said the agencies failed to file returns to enable the board compute the taxes.

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) was sealed off over N2.5million unremitted tax.

RED CARD SCARE: Moses apologises to Cape Verde captain

Chelsea forward Victor Moses has apologised for coming very close to getting sent off in Wednesday’s friendly against Cape Verde.

Moses escaped being sent off after he retaliated following a tackle on him by the Cape Verde captain. He was only booked.

“Moses has been sober after the game and he has apologised to the Cape Verde captain,” stated the team psychologist Robinson Okosun.

“I will be having a separate session with Moses today (Thursday) because there is need for him to understand that in African football he must learn to control his temper. You know players come up with several antics and we saw one of that against Cape Verde. He was only lucky to be on the pitch because he could have been sent off.”

The Eagles observed Thursday morning as rest and are billed to take on Dutch club FC Rotterdam on Saturday in their last warm-up game before they jet out to South Africa on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, an advanced party of officials led by head of competition, Mohammed Sanusi, are due to depart for South Africa on Tuesday.

The other officials on the team include Emmanuel Ikpeme, who is head of the technical department, as well as the head of the protocol department.

They are expected to ensure that all the Eagles need in South Africa are in place before they fly in on Thursday from their training base in Portugal.
