  • Fayemi appoints six advisers, revenue board chair

    Eiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi has approved some appointments:

    This is in a bid to further position his administration for effective service delivery.

    The appointments are: Alhaji Afolabi Ogunlayi, Senior Adviser, Economic Matters and Chair, Economic Development Council; Paul Omotoso, Senior Adviser, Political Matters; Makinde Araoye, Special Adviser, Federal Matters; Mrs. Sola Salako-Ajulo, Special Adviser, Communications and Strategy; Mr. Akintunde Oyebode, Special Adviser, Investment, Trade and Innovations; Sunday Adunmo, Special Adviser, Road/Transport and Infrastructure.

    Others are: Prof. Fransisca Aladejana, Chairman, SUBEB; Mrs. Funke Fajobi, Commissioner, SUBEB; Tajudeen Wale Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Public Buildings and Infrastructure and Mr. Muyiwa Ogunmilade, Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue.

    According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, the appointments are with immediate effect.

  • 2019: Tambuwal appoints Ikechukwu as spokesperson

    Sokoto State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant Aminu Tambuwal yesterday appointed Dr. Okey Ikechukwu as the spokesperson and head of Media and Strategic Communications for his 2019 presidential campaign.

    Ikechukwu is charged with overseeing media contents and output related to the Tambuwal Presidential Project as well as being its official media face and voice.

    The philosopher and public communications expert with rich and wide experience in youth mentoring, political campaigns and media management is to oversee every aspect of the campaign that would impact on the profile, general perception and Tambuwal’s branding as a presidential candidate.

    Ikechukwu is an experienced public and security communications expert, leadership and governance consultant, public speaker, trainer and life coach.

    He has held senior positions in the public and private sectors at the highest levels, led foreign delegations on behalf of the Federal Government, held board positions and chaired government’s reform committees and other initiatives.

    He was, at various times, lecturer, Department of Philosophy, University of Lagos, Chairman Editorial Board and Editorial Page Editor of The Comet Newspapers, member, and later Acting Chairman, Editorial Board and Editorial Page Editor of The Guardian.

    He was also a member of Daily Trust Newspapers Editorial Board and Chief of Staff/Special Assistant to Minister of Information and National Orientation.

  • UAC appoints new non-executive directors

    UAC of Nigeria PLC (UACN) has announced the appointments of Mr Folasope Babasola Aiyesimoju and Mrs Olufunke Ighodaro as non-executive directors of the company while Mr Peter Benedikt Mombaur would serve as the alternate director to the new directors.
    Mr Aiyesimoju, a finance professional, has vast experience spanning corporate finance, principal investing and private equity in Sub-Saharan Africa’s most important economies. He holds a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Estate Management from the University of Lagos, where he was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Real Estate Development and Finance, and earned the right to use the CFA designation in 2006.
    Mr Aiyesimoju is the founder of Themis Capital Management, an investment firm focused on concentrating capital and talent on high-potential opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to founding Themis, he worked with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, a leading global investment firm with $168 billion in assets under management.
    Mrs Ighodaro is an astute and experienced business leader with considerable experience in executive as well as non-executive leadership positions with some of Africa’s most successful companies. She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Operational Research from Salford University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
    She is an independent non-executive director and audit committee member at Datatec Limited, an international information and communications technology business with a market capitalization of c.$500 million and independent non-executive director and audit committee chair at Transaction Capital Limited, a $900m business, which operates in highly specialised and under-served segments of the South African and Australian financial services markets.
    She was recently appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian Communications Commission and a syndicate of 13 lenders to the Interim Board of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited, where she serves as Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer focused on stabilizing the business ahead of a third-party sale.
    Mr Mombaur is an investor and entrepreneur with professional experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, Western Europe and North America. He has lived and worked in Nigeria for seven years and overseen investments for over a decade. He holds University degrees in Mechanical Engineering (specialising in Energy and Automation) as well as Law and Economics. His work experience spans fast moving consumer goods, telecommunications, financial services and education.
    A co-founder of Themis Capital Management and Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Terra Education.

    A learning travel company based in San Diego, USA, Mr Mombaur was co-Managing Director at Tana Africa, an investment company with an open-ended investment horizon backed by the Oppenheimer family and Temasek. His experience includes working with Mckinsey & Company and RWE Group, one of Germany’s largest utility companies. He is co-founder of the African Leadership Academy, an institution based in Johannesburg, South-Africa and focused on developing Africa’s future leaders.

  • Law firm appoints senior associates

    A law firm, Auxano Law (Chijioke Emeka & Colleagues), has elevated two of its associates as Senior Associates. They are Emmanuel-Kant Ekeocha and Mrs. Oluwakemi Oni.

    Ekeocha holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Madonna University, where he finished as second best graduating student of his set. He heads the firm’s Litigation Department. He has made impressive contribution as a member of the firm’s Commercial Law Practice Group. He is an astute advocate, who successfully represented several blue-chips in resolving complex legal issues.

    Oni holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Ado-Ekiti. She heads the firm’s Registry Department.

    She co-ordinates the firm’s Human Rights Law Practice Group, where she made commendable contributions towards the group’s Justice for Indigent Convicts (JIC) project. The project saw to the initiation and conclusion of more than 15 criminal appeals in three divisions of the Court of Appeal within two years.

    In a statement by its Managing Counsel, Chijioke Emeka, the firm said:  “At Auxano Law, we appreciate and reward hard work and diligence. The elevation is to encourage them and other juniors to aspire to higher positions in our fast rising practice.”

    2019: Dickson appoints five commissioners from Jonathan’s council

    Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has increased the number of commissioners in his cabinet from Ogbia, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Local Government Area, to five.

    Among the five nominees sworn-in yesterday by Dickson is Faith Opuene, who hails from Ogbia.

    Other nominees sworn in are Ebipatei Apaingolo and Funkazi Koroye-Crooks.

    They were all admitted to the cabinet yesterday.

    Other commissioners from Ogbia serving in Dickson’s cabinet are: Daniel Iworiso-Markson (Information and Orientation); Chief Saviour Ibegi(Chieftaincy and Community Development); Chief Fred Obua (Special Projects) and Chief Jim Ogbolo (Power).

    Inaugurating the new commissioners, Dickson assigned Mrs. Funkazi Koroye-Crooks to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment.

    The governor also said that the Ministry of Women and Social Development had been split into the Ministry of Women Development and the Ministry of Empowerment and Social Welfare.

    He said the Opene would be in charge of either of the two ministries, adding that a portfolio would later be assigned to Gabriel Apaingolo.

    He governor further inaugurated Prof. Rose Ezonbodor-Akwagbe as Special Adviser on Maternal and Neo-Natal Welfare.

    Iworiso-Markson commended Dickson for? appointing more Ogbia sons and daughters into his cabinet.

    He said the development was a demonstration of Dickson’s undiluted love for people of Jonathan’s local government.

    He appreciated the governor for the gesture, saying it further affirmed his commitment to the development of Ogbia as a whole.

    Iworiso-Markson further assured the governor that Ogbia would reciprocate the gesture by showing support and loyalty to the government.

  • Premium Pension appoints new directors

    The Board of Premium Pension Limited has appointed Mr. Kabir Ahmed Tijjani as an Executive Director, and Mr. Lamido Yuguda as Non-Executive Director.

    In a release in Lagos, an official at the firm’s Corporate Communications , Aliyu Ali,  said the appointments are expected to enhance robust business development by the company.

    Mr. Tijjani has been with Premium Pension Limited since its inception in 2005 as a management staff. As a seasoned corporate lawyer, he served the company first as Secretary and head of Legal Services department. He played a pivotal role in developing various structures and policies that guide the conduct and affairs of the Board and management.

    Until his latest appointment,  Tijjani served as the company’s pioneer Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), where he was saddled with the responsibility of facilitating the business development functions, customer base growth and branch offices supervision.

    Prior to joining the company, Mr. Tijjani had a stint with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as an Inspector of Taxes. He later joined the defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) as a Senior Legal Officer, where he rose to the position of zonal Legal Adviser and Head of Legal department at the central headquarters of the company.

    Mr. Tijjani is an alumnus of Lagos Business School (LBS), Howard University Washington DC, National University of Singapore and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He attended several professional courses, seminars and workshops on corporate legal practice, telecommunications, pension matters, information communication technology and finance within and outside Nigeria.

    Mr. Tijjani is a certified IT Manager in the United States, member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as well as Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

    Similarly, Mr. Yuguda brings to the Board more than three decades of experience as a central banker, economist and investment manager. He began his career with the CBN as a Senior Supervisor, Foreign Operations in 1984 with responsibility for maintaining Nigeria’s external debt records. He reached the pinnacle of his career at the CBN as Director, Reserve Management, where he inculcated a strong risk-aware investment culture and engendered a disciplined approach to investment evaluation. He retired voluntarily in 2016.

    Mr. Yuguda graduated with a BSc. Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1983 and obtained M.Sc in Money, Banking & Finance in 1991 from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He also holds a certificate in Financial Asset Management and Engineering from the Swiss Finance Institute, Geneva, Switzerland.

    He is a distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and CFA Charter holder.

  • Deutsche Bank appoints new trade finance head for SSA

    Deutsche Bank has announced the appointment of Andreas Voss as Head of Trade Finance for Financial Institutions (TFFI) in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

    Voss will combine his new role with his portfolio as Head of Global Transaction Banking West Africa and Chief Representative of Deutsche Bank AG’s Lagos Representative Office.

    Based in Lagos, Voss will be responsible for driving the development and execution of Deutsche Bank’s TFFI growth strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa for Trade Finance business directly originated from financial institutions. He will also support Deutsche Bank’s corporate teams to promote trade financing in the region.

    Commenting on the appointment, Jamal Al Kishi, Chief Executive Officer Middle East & Africa (MEA), said: “Andreas has led our franchise in Nigeria admirably since joining Deutsche Bank a few years ago. This promotion is a fitting recognition of his leadership and contributions. His expertise and broader involvement will help us to grow and further develop our Financial Institutions business in general and the TFFI sector in particular.”

    Ulf-Peter Noetzel, Deutsche Bank’s Global Head of TFFI remarked, “This appointment highlights the importance of Africa, and in particular Nigeria, to Deutsche Bank’s trade finance business. The bank is looking to further develop its business with select African clients and through Andreas’ expanded role we aim to enhance our focus on supporting Financial Institutions on a broader base in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

    Voss has been with Deutsche Bank since October 2015. He joined Deutsche Bank from Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG) and brings more than 14 years of experience in the financial sector.

    Prior to DEG, Andreas worked in the corporate and project finance industries with German commercial banks. Until the end of 2014, Andreas was based in Ghana as Regional Director of DEG’s office in Western Africa.

    Deutsche Bank first established a presence in Nigeria in 1978. The representative office in Lagos supports and assists Deutsche Bank’s correspondent banking activities, which it offers to many Nigerian Financial Institutions. Deutsche Bank has also played key roles in various financial advisory and restructuring projects and in helping Nigerian counterparts raise finance.

    Oyo appoints governing councils for six tertiary institutions

    The Oyo State government has announced the constitution of the governing councils for six state-owned tertiary institutions.

    A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, which quoted the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Olalekan Alli, said Prof I. A. Adeyemi will chair the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, while members of the council are: Prof Lasun Olayiwola, Prof. Olusola Babalola, Dr Ajibola Eesuola, Dr Ehinlanwo, Messrs Kareem A. Abidoye, E. A. Adegun and Deji Akande.

    For Oke Ogun Polytechnic at Saki, Prof. Tijani Moshood is the Chairman, while Prof. O. D. Akinyemi, Dr Funmilola O. Omotayo, Dimeji Okunlola, Mr. Taoreed Adeleke, Mr. Ayinla Lanre Musibau and Alhaji Raji Rasaki are members of the board.

    The Governing Council of Ibarapa Polytechnic at Eruwa will be chaired by Dr Ogundiran S. Ogunwale, while Dr Yemisi Obalowo, Dr Peter Olamakinde, Messrs Solomon Adeseun, Remi Olajire, Adewuyi Moruf Adebayo and Adegbite A. Ayodeji are board members.

    Dr. Sulaiman Adediran is the Chairman of the Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education at Oyo, with Prof. Fasasi Musibau Keulere, Olusanjo Akanmu, Omotosho Kinsley Kayode, Messrs. Adesiji Gbadegesin, Olatunji Quadri Arowolo and Adebayo Abiodun Tirimisiyu as members.

    The Governing Council of the College of Education at Lanlate has Prof. Olanrewaju O. Ademola as Chairman, with Dr. Daud Amoo Alaga, Prof. Muritala A. Bidmoz, Mr. Olaseni Adio, Mrs. Rasheed Raliat Yemi, Adenrele James Olayiwola and Bamidele Ojo Samson as members.

    The Chairman of the College of Agriculture and Technology at Igboora, is Prof Lateef Sanni, while Mrs. Yemisi Iranloye, S. R. T. Oketobo, Rufai Oladejo, Mrs. Mercy Aboyade, Joshua Oluwole Olukunle, Alayande Rahman Abdulahi and Temitope Samson are members of the council.

    The SSG said the state government was working to resolve the challenges facing the institutions, adding that the constitution of the governing councils would address some of them.

    He said the new governing councils would be sworn in by Governing Abiola Ajimobi in due course, adding that the institutions will soon resume academic activities.

  • Red Star awards scholars, appoints mentors

    Not less than nine scholars have been awarded scholarship at this year’s Red Star Foundation scholarship scheme.

    The scholarship recipients drawn from four schools within Oshodi Local Government Area, included: Okonofua Tomillola, Ochella Victoria and Lawal Suliat from Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Okorovivian and Ajigboteso Joseph from Mafoluku Senior Grammar School, Arilesere Modinat from Bolade Senior Grammar School and Morakinyo Eniola, Adebayo Mark and Moses Olamide from Unity and High School.

    New mentors were also appointed to guide the wards. The 14th edition of the scholarship event, organised by Red Star Express Plc recently, was a platform for the company to demonstrate its core values in its Corporate Social Responsibilities, for the benefit of its immediate community in particular and Nigeria in general.

    The Group Managing Director, Red Star Express Plc, Sola Obabori said the initiative was aimed at supporting the growth of education in the country. “The whole initiative of the Red Star Foundation in undertaking this task is to support the growth of education in the country. As an organisation, we believe in improving the lives of those who cannot pay for high quality education. The annual programme was organised in collaboration with its host community, Oshodi Local Government, the Schools’ officials and University of Lagos Consult. The scholarship programme started in 2004 and it is now in its 14th edition,” he stated.

    In his speech, the Chairman Board of Trustees of Red Star Foundation, Mr. Tonye Preghafi, said the aim of the scholarship is to improve the educational standards in the country.
